When I travel, I have only two requests from hotels and resorts I partner with:
1) Feather-free bedding (because - fun fact!! - I’m terribly allergic to feather bedding and pillows )
2) And, a bath because, well, baths keep me sane.🙌🏻 @FairmontAtx hit that second request out of the park with my luscious @kohlerco bath while I’ve been in Austin.
While it’s deep enough for me to sink into after a long day, it’s also got the perfect amount of “ledge room” - which means not only all of my beauty products fit (heeyyyy @lovephilosophy @tatcha @katesomervilleskincare & @malinandgoetz 👋🏼) - but there’s still a little extra room for the current book I’m reading and a glass of vino.

And, I should probably add that the @lelabofragrances bath products that the @fairmontatx offers is a super luxurious touch.👌🏼
Yep, if you ask me, every woman needs a hot bubble bath at the end of every day to melt away the stress and hustle of the day.
Not traveling anytime soon and wanna create your own little end-of-day haven at home?
Try:

Bubbles. A good book. Good beauty products. And, one goooood glass of wine.

p.s. Please also note that I NEVER wear red polish but for @suzkloves’ shower, it was a must for our Red polish-lovin’ mama!❤️❤️

Feeling more like a joyful wedding than a baby shower, the tone for @suzkloves’ “Forever In Blue Jeans, Babe” baby shower in Austin at @MattiesAustin - celebrating Baby Harry - was one of fun, whimsical, retro splendor.
The theme was based on a form of entertainment we’ve always shared- me cheering @suzkloves up over the years (and, making her laugh) by doing a silly impression of Neil Diamond’s epic denim-themed song.
With guests donning denim and tablescapes complete with @TheHayleyCakes custom “placecard” cookies (more on that later), luxe little OTTO @malinandgoetz candles as favors (more on that later, too), a rocking horse holding a floral arrangement, a baby blue-baby overall cake and peacocks running freely on the rooftop of the old Austin estate right outside our balcony, it was a magical day that no one wanted to end...especially not Baby Harry.
But end it did while Harry’s fairytale life is just beginning.
Oh, what a life this party-loving boy will have! ••••

Venue: @mattiesaustin

Since 11, @suzkloves and I always did love staring at the cute boys.
But it’s serious this time.
While the celebratory social media-loving woman in me wants to tell you all about the larger-than-life-yet-feels-like-home baby shower that we had yesterday for these guys and daddy Gaines, the lifelong friend in me has to first share this stolen moment from Friday night at the Kilpatricks.
A moment when two girls who used to dream of moving away from Dallas to bigger cities to pursue even bigger, more glamorous careers...who used to crush on basically any boy who didn’t like them back...who used to ask one another with fear in their voice if they would ever be lovable (only to hear from the other one that they already WERE)... a moment when they looked in a bassinet and saw a miracle:
A little boy - the New Years Baby of Austin 2018 - who came just a little too early because he just couldn’t wait to meet these super-fun parents who had moved heaven and earth to make him happen.
As Suz and I sat there rocking Sweet Baby Harry to sleep - her rocking, me singing my song, “Little Angel,” we looked at each other and gave a teary little smile.
And, with that one look, we seemed to say, “Ohhhh. This is what all that was for.” And, not just the road to baby but this road of life, taking us on all of its detours and dead-end roads and missed turns and forks in the road.
All that led to two 27-years-long forever friends - with one sitting on the floor and one laying on the bed - looking at each other and then looking in a bassinet, falling even more in love with the cutest boy they’d ever seen, remembering everything it had taken to get here to share in this single moment.
And, with that one look, they know that here was a boy who was totally lovable and would always be loved.

I hope you’re ready to step up your game with this new culinary kid in town - the @FairmontAtx has tastily two-stepped its way into my heart.

Yesterday, I sampled a doozy of a delicious tasting in my room with their Banana Bread French Toast with pecan praline, roasted bananas and whipped brown butter • Chilaquiles with smoked chicken, smashed avocado, queso fresco and poblano cream sauce • and, last but CERTAINLY not least - Sweet Corn pancakes with roasted peaches, sorghum-corn caramel, whipped cream, and - hold the dance floor - JALAPEÑO BUTTER.
Yep. My dance card was filled and George Strait songs kept filling my head the rest of the day.
My #DineAndDishWithDawn deduction from my 3rd day here?
Come to the @fairmontatx for the comfortable luxury...but stay for the sensuous menu that will satiate even the most scrutinizing tastebuds. 🍽🥑🥞🌽

This morning, I woke up to glorious 180-degree views from my corner suite at the @Fairmontatx.
From my bed, I can see the @utaustintx stadium, the tower, and buildings in which I studied personalities, psychopathy and serial killers.
Yep, seriously. My thesis was on serial killers.
I can see 6th street where my fake ID was cut up just two months shy of my 21st birthday.
I see memories of boyfriends and my brother and his girlfriends and country dancing at the @brokenspokeatx, and the ooey-gooey late night slices at that pizza joint on 6th that seemed to be always open and ready to taunt whatever super-strict diet I was on that week.
I see 2 months of work on Miss Congeniality where I fell in love with a boy and fell in even greater love with the entertainment industry, thanks to our D.P., Laszlo Kovacs, taking me under his wing because he said I seemed “smarter than the rest.”
So many beautiful memories.
But, I also see new memories being made this weekend and I know I’ll wax all nostalgic about those just as much one day.
Memories like...
Last night spent with hours of margaritas, queso and conversation with my dear, newly-married friend, Angela Cotton @angelacc79 whom I met at Talented And Gifted Camp when we were pre-teens, and with whom I pledged Kappa here years later.
And, tonight, getting to have dinner with my best friend since age 11, @suzkloves, and getting to finally meet her sweet baby Harrison - born on New Years Day this year - whose pictures have just not satisfied my need to want to love on him.
And, best of all, tomorrow I get to celebrate delicious little Prince Harry and toast Suz and her husband, Gaines, while sitting around a table with some of my oldest friends coming in from Dallas as we celebrate this new little man being in the world. In OUR world.

Old memories.
New memories.
Closed chapters.
Open chapters.
And, to think, I can see all of that from this gorgeous 180-degree Fairmont Austin corner suite view.
Isn’t life just such a beautiful thing?

As I look out of my window seat, listening to @spaceykacey’s unreal new album flying into my old college town of Austin - my first time since 2004 - I’m reminded of the girl I was when I lived here, and rewarded with the woman I have become now.
And, with every bountiful cloud that passes, I realize that this woman today wouldn’t be who she is without those 2 years spent in Austin where I enjoyed the city immensely & yet had never felt more insecure or awkward.

I had transferred from the warm cottage of @HendrixCollege to the big mansion of the Kappa Kappa Gamma House at the University of Texas.
While I loved my life & friends at Hendrix, I wanted to pursue acting & Austin was just a world to which I was thrilled to hold a key with my admission.

When I think of my 2 years here, I think of how diverse they were:
Acting in small films, acting in a George W. Bush commercial (yes, reallly - THIS liberal!), being Sandra Bullock’s stand-in in Miss Congeniality, learning so much about both acting & myself in Mona Lee’s intense acting classes, taking 25 hours in one semester to be in Oliver Stone’s Any Given Sunday, dating a too-cool-for-school, 7-years-older producer guy & all while living in a sorority house, doing my friends’ makeup...at the tiny square dressing table I somehow managed to fit in a sorority house room with two other girls.

But with all the good, I also remember feeling so awkward here.
Like I couldn’t fit in.
Like I was too shiny.
Too big. Too colorful.
Too much.
I remember days of bingeing on bakery cookies followed by grueling runs around the lake.
I tortured myself a lot here.
I remember never having a real date with any frat guy because it’s like they were living in black and white & I was living in color & my color was all too much for them.
But, I knew that playing it safe was not in my cards.
So, LA it was.
That’s where I could be my big, juicy, colorful self.
And, that is where I would go.
And, so I did.
But every single memory here led to that decision.
And, now?
Now, I’m prepared to see Austin through the eyes of a strong woman...because I’ve already seen it through the eyes of an insecure girl.
Bring it on. A-town. Bring it on.🙌

Childhood has a way of taking pictures from our memories and turning them into lifelong traditions.
Take this Bunny cake here that I bake, decorate and name every Easter.
This year’s was named “Bashful.” And, it’s all because as a very little girl, I saw a picture of a Bunny cake like this that my mom had made one Easter for my brother before I was born.
That’s the funniest part about it.
Even as a kid, I nostalgized about things that had never even happened to me, and created future traditions based on the lives of those I loved.
Nevertheless, as soon as I learned to bake, I decided that every Easter, I would bake and decorate a bunny cake the way my gorgeous mom did in her robe that looked like [email protected] evening gown.
Maybe it’s because it’s a sign of simpler times in the 70s.
Maybe it’s because it reminds me of my mom’s beauty and my respect for her always being a hard-working career woman with two careers and a big heart who always found time to still be a caring mom and bake in her not-so-spare time.
Maybe it’s because there are visions from our childhood that live within us forever, reminding us of easier and more innocent times when a Bunny cake in a Polaroid photograph could delight us to no end.
Maybe it’s because to me, a Bunny cake means family.
And, I’m so lucky that in LA over the past 17 years, I’ve established a core family of friends that makes me want to bake a bunny cake for them.
Or, maybe it’s all of it.
Jellybeans.
Sugar punch whiskers.
Coconut grass.
Nostalgia, memories, the gifts that family gives us, friends who are family, and all.
Yeah, I think that’s it.💓
