LACK OF CO-OPERATION IN THE AFRICAN RACE!

It is so hard, so difficult to find men who will stick to a purpose, who will maintain a principle for the worth of that principle, for the good of that purpose, and if there is a race that needs such men in the world today, God Almighty knows it is the race of which I am a member. The race needs men of vision and ability. Men of character and above all men of honesty, and that is so hard to find. The greatest stumbling block in the way of progress in the race has invariably come from within the race itself. The monkey wrench of destruction as thrown into the cog of Negro Progress, is not thrown so much by the outsider as by the very fellow who is in our fold, and who should be the first to grease the wheel of progress rather than seeking to impede it.But notwithstanding the lack of sympathetic co-operation, I have one consolation—That I cannot get away from the race, and so long as I am in the race and since I have sense and judgment enough to know what affects the race affects me, it is my duty to help the race to clear itself of those things that affect us in common. - Marcus Garvey #MarcusGarvey #Racefirst

I spent my new years cobbling this bike together for the coming CTC race this year, a race that I said I would never do (it’s Pittsburgh to Philadelphia!!!!) I’m doing this race for a good friend that is not able to do it this year (current record holder) I believe that he helped me build this bike in some weird way. All that you see only cost me about $25 in new parts and $150 in used stuff adding in my old or unused/takeoff parts I had on hand. This is a new year and a new goal to be fit enough to endure this race both mentally and physically. #happynewyear2019 #builtnotbought #petethepidgeon #kingofstoke #rideinpeace

Via @htlmagazine: "I interviewed 36 boys and girls between the ages of ten and 13. Approximately half of the kids attended diverse schools, lived near Black or Latinx neighborhoods and participated in activities with children of color on a regular basis. The majority of these white kids were comfortable discussing race, conveyed complex ideas about racism and had applied experiences participating in social activism.
But the rest of the children in my study attended predominantly white schools, lived in almost entirely white neighborhoods and participated in activities with very few children of color. These white kids joked around about race with their friends, using the phrase “that’s racist” as an insult akin to “that’s stupid,” and had limited understandings about both contemporary and historical aspects of racism in America. This was true in families where parents spoke openly about race as well as in those where race was perceived as an unnecessary topic for family discussion.
Everyday behaviors of white parents also matter: when to lock the car doors, what conversations to have at the dinner table, what books and magazines to have around the house, how to react to news headlines, who to invite over for summer cookouts, who parents are friends with themselves, what media to consume, how to respond to overtly racist remarks made by Grandpa at a family dinner and where to spend leisure time.
These small actions send subtle yet powerful messages. Parents may not even be aware that they are conveying ideas about race through these behaviors, but children learn from them all the time. In this sense, when it comes to communicating with white children about racism, parents’ actions often speak louder than their words.
The conversations parents have with their white children about race and racism matter — it’s just that so does everything else parents do. Rather than focusing solely on what they say to kids about race, white parents should think more critically and carefully about how what they do on an everyday basis may actually reproduce the very racist ideas and forms of racial inequality that they say they seek to challenge.”

Each year when the date of @redhookcrit Brooklyn comes closer, I involuntarily think back to the 2014 edition, also known as #wethookcrit. Easily the most epic bike event I’ve ever witnessed and setting the tone for any #rhc: in this race, anything is possible and often there’s some kind of crazy plot twist during race day. Like a downpour that never stops. The first picture of Stefania Baldi (by @xskillyx) shows pretty well how horrible - thus heroic - this race was in terms of weather: 3 degrees Celsius with continuous rain, which slowly increased during the day and suddenly stopped not long after the men’s final. The women’s race was paused because of a big crash and I remember the racers waiting for the restart, shivering. Pictures:
1. Stefania fighting like a lion to get back to the head of the race after a crash. By @xskillyx
2. Evan Murphy in a tire deep puddle during qualifying. By @caropaulette
3. Qualifier action. By @federicavalabrega
4. You can find some pretty inspirational POV footage from aboard Mario Paz Duque. The men’s race was won by Thibaud Lhenry on his bamboo bike. And here’s Fish, who I was supporting that race.
Tomorrow the fun starts again! Can’t wait to see how the day unfolds and see how @team.wit will do with @kajverhaegh, @jhgroeneveld and @eerdvdavid. Good luck to everyone!! And big shout out to @team.wit’s sponsor @magistralecyclingcoffee, who’s there to soak up the experience. #fixedgearracing #redhookcrit #rhcbk11

Make sure your own shoes are tied.
And when you look to make sure your shoes are tied
take a moment to see if the people around you have their shoes tied too.
Believe me, it will save you having to hurdle a fallen competitor… and it’s the right thing to do.
Start your own watch but not when you hear the gun go off.
You may not be starting in the front row.
So, start your watch when you cross the starting line.
Don’t stop it until you have crossed the finish line.
And remember that at the finish line you may cross in front of someone but they may have been faster.
That also means that someone in front of you may be slower than you.
Sometimes you just don’t know where people were lined up at the start.
Remember that before you start congratulating yourself.
Take water early in the race.
You’re drinking for later.
And later on after the race you will probably forget about that water.
Don’t.
Don’t forget that somebody filled those cups up.
So you could drink them down.
Somebody put those cups out there.
And they’re probably not even running the race.
The race is about more than the runners.
And finally, you must know that there is a reason why you are on the line.
And there is a reason why you were given a number.
There is a reason for you to be a part of this race and not apart from this race.
I don’t know how it will all turn out for you.
I don’t know how you will finish.
I just know you deserve a chance to compete like everyone else...
and that I’ll cheer for you all the way to the end.

Medal Monday 👍😉🏅🏁🏃🏻‍♂️⚡ I had a blast running and volunteering doing the course sweep at the Spartan Sprint Race Fenway Park over the weekend. I race on Saturday but they messed up my result time so I decided to race again on Sunday to get my official time. That never happened before... strange 🤔. But anywho, I can't put in all the time and efforts during training and not get the correct official time so I had to do it again on Sunday. Eventho I was slightly aching from the race before also ran into traffic here and there I still did my best and give it my all. No pain... No gain right haha. I ran a burpee free race 🎯 and beat my time from last year! Overall, I was really happy with my official result time of 32 mins.. putting me in 6th place overall out of 4,201 people in the Open Heat Sunday race. 🙌🏻🕺🏻 Sunday Funday! It feels so good to end my last Spartan Race of 2018 with a result like that. Now back to training and get ready for 2019! Event: M1 Grand Prix (24 hour race)
Location: Rosamond, California USA

I was taking to my friend @burnoutboss78 about his race & he broke the full 24 hour race - all down in to 1 hour. I can't believe they took the championship against a few highly funded teams & some were factory & manufacture backed race teams. .

Super proud of Orlando, his team & mechanics. Unfortunately I wasn't able to make it but luckily my tuning worked perfectly throughout the 24 endurance Motobike race!! .

To me it's not now much money you spend on equipment, having the most powerful bike or hiring all the best riders & staff - it's a balance of everything & everyone having the same goal & most important the passion & teamwork. Good job guys that was definitely a great story, I wish I could have been there to experience it. What a story. . . . "Race for a reason - Race For RP" @raceforrp

All happy racers are alike, each unhappy racer is unhappy in their own way. In reversal chronological order, my #srmr debacles:
1- stomach woes. Entering the Chinese border region and the most inaccessible and consistently coldest part of the race I made the call to quit.
2- in a weird and unlucky fluke, my passport and brevet card for the race slipped into the wall of a yurt at checkpoint one. 2 hours of fruitless searching on the floor (and all my bags, and Tai’s bags, and the rubbish bins...) yielded nothing. Luckily it was found after we were 60 klicks down the road. The taxi ride back up Moldo Pass was everything you would expect in an ancient soviet sedan with bald tires and shot ball joints.
3- the hairpin on the new Chinese road on the Jumgal river claimed me too. A little too confident after zero problems blasting miles of bumpy rutted and rocky double track. Pretty deep gouges but just skin thankfully; I’ve always been good at crashing
4- altitude on Kegety got me good. That and probably just a run down body. We were probably the earliest campers of the whole race and in our tent by 430 as the hail storm pummeled the mountain.
5- ah, the perks of building a new bike the night before a major race. This was actually an easy fix (adjustable oh yeah) but there were headaches throughout. Between assembling the bike, packing our food, and other last minute prep, I never slept. Tai only got a few hours himself.
6- it would be pretty unwise to schedule that build in the midnight hours before a major race. But that’s what you have to do when your baggage is two and a half days late. I was lucky it made it before the race.
It’s funny how all these little things snowball and throw off your race. There’s nothing you can do about the airlines but I’ll be looking at what to work on for the future.

As a past World 70.3 champion, IMSA, here in Port Elizabeth, and triathlon fan, I like to think I know my stuff on how the race will play out . I also know that being a 'race favourite' means nothing unless it is executed on race day. If you are on the start line, you have a shot.
Predictions are made on current start list from Ironman. It's difficult to know if all intend to race.
My picks for the women's race :
I think the race will break on the swim with True, Charles, Ryf, Vodickova all capable of making the front pack. If Charles is still racing the others will may have to chase until the late stages of the run.
The bike is tough here and so I will back Ryf to break either bridge up to Charles or go alone.
Wurtele will make time back up here and should catch the good swimmers as Hauschildt and Seymour could.
Runners only have a chance of the swim and bike is super calm in PE. Haug and Sheedy Ryan may then be able to run through.
I'm going with Ryf, True and Wurtele
@danielaryf @sarah.b.true @teamwurtele

My picks for the men's race :
The swim may be crazy with Amberger, Potts and Kanute trying to break Gomez, Frodeno and Brownlee early. The problem with this is that they are all too good to be broken and the swim may be voided.
James Cunnama, the only South African male in the field, will be home favourite and my actual favourite as well ! He will go for a good top 5 here. @jamescunnama
I believe Gomez may be the best runner in the field at the moment and so we could see some fireworks on the bike for those wanting to go for the win. It may pay dividends for those who sit pretty and pick off the blow ups ahead later on the run.
I'll predict Gomez, Frodeno, Brownlee on this one. I don't think James will mind - he's an IM athlete.

You can’t predict the outcome and the unknown awaits your team... we came fully prepared and committed to finishing the longest Offroad race in #America 🇺🇸 but that wasn’t our destiny this year.... we had the best gear, parts and equipment from our sponsors & supporters but that little thing called #luck wasn’t on our side. We wanted to finish this race to honor our #brother Chris Carlisle who passed away at this race last year... but after being so disappointed , frustrated and bummed out that we didn’t finish ... we came to realize maybe Chris was watching over us and knew maybe we were pushing too hard... emotions were high and different things were going thru each riders mind... after multiple issues and fighting thru them all ! Not wanting to give up ... our bike finally said no more at Race Mile 341. I was lucky enough to sneak in on the podium for my age group (20-34), some very talented runners showed up today and made us regulars work for it 🤣. I ended up with 5th overall and 3rd in my age group, it’s always more fun for me when I get to jump up there with my buddy. Thank you to my little buddy Connor for sharing the podium with me, love you so much buddy!
As for the race, well I went out too hard trying to keep with these 2! Puked 🤮 in the woods about 4km in, so just before the end of lap 1. I got passed by a couple guys, tried to recover and get my places back but I fell behind to much. Maintained my position and finished as strong as I could. “Run your own race Brandon”, do you know how many times this has been told me? Including myself giving me shit, at least 100 no joke. But do I listen?

Do you guys ever find yourself chasing other runners in races, instead of focusing on your own race plan?

Thanks to @hardwoodskibike and @upandoutsports for putting on another great event! Even with so much going on today including a 4 hour mountain bike relay, they had no issues with the race and another great course. Super technical today!

Nationals, I didn’t run crazy fast, I didn’t place very high but anyone who knows me knows I did something in this race that I’ve never done before in my 3 years of college competition (including Mt. SAC), which was score for my team (place top 5 on team). At this race I was 4th for my team. Now it may not seem like a big deal but seeing as I had never raced at a meet of this caliber before, for Nationals to be the very first race I scored in was huge for me. To score and help contribute to our team’s 13th place finish I felt validated, I felt like all the time and sacrifice I’d put into running had payed off, it was all worth it. Running fast for me isn’t always necessarily the goal, I’ve been taught that learning about yourself and understanding personal success is just as important and this race and season has taught me a lot. This year I learned to stay positive and to keep grinding despite all the negative distractions that may be around. I’m appreciative for all those who have believed in me even when I didn’t believe in myself. Cross country may be over this year but the running ain’t over yet! Can’t wait to keep learning and improving! Here are some pictures from Nationals a few weeks ago 😊 #securethebag #jucojuice

Final time was 3:56:22. I knew I was cutting it close and that last 1.2 miles, I just told myself to not stop and to get to the end.
.
.
As I took the long walk after the race to the reunion area, I was fighting back tears because I knew that this was going to be my final marathon. The training was starting to become a chore, and even after Chicago, I was no longer trying to enjoy the experience and take it all in. I just wanted to get through the race and finish it.
.
.
And so being that this is my last one, I'd like to take this time to thank everyone who was out there to make this race happen: NYPD, FDNY, military personnel, the medics, the volunteers and of course the spectators. And finally to the other runners who were beside me that have inspired me these past few years (pics attached) - from their 39th to their 63rd marathon, to the blind, to those who never let their handicap hold them back - you're the reason why I reminded myself to suck up the pain, and to finish. Thank you NYC marathon for the memories. .

Sharkfest San Diego 2018
First time atop the overall podium for an open water race in San Diego. This year reaffirmed my opinion that this is my favorite race in California. My race strategy for most every open water race is "if you wanna beat me you're gonna have to catch me." I like to just go fast from the start and hold on. Fortunately today no one caught me. .

1st Overall. 18:07 (1:35 improvement from last year, much smoother conditions)

It's not about the place you come in, it is about the time you finish the race in. The work that is put In behind the scenes on a daily basis is a grind game, it is something that you have to be passionate about and be willing to sacrifice it all to be the best! With that being said, I had a personal best in my 8000 meter race! Give all the glory to god for pushing me to be the best I can be! 🙏

My new frame showed up 2 days before the race and somehow we managed to build and race it with zero major issues. Huge thanks to @dynaplug / @dynaplugracing for turning a race-ending flat into a minor delay. Also huge thanks to @grant_lacey for supervising the campsite, taking pics, shuttling riders, and helping with the build. ALSO huge thanks to @downievilleoutfitters for getting my brakes 100% dialed at 4:45pm on a Friday! ALSO huge thanks to @intensecycles for working through the warranty / crash replacement situation and getting me back on the trails! ALSO huge thanks to @sturgeonoutside for convincing me that I could get my fork converted to the correct travel in time for the event and offering his assistance in doing so! And of course the most thanks for @pitazita for letting me turn our dining room into a bike shop and putting up with all of the other prep that went into the race!

Race 7 of the Prince Lubricants Caterham Motorsport Championship 2018 was again a very interesting and exciting race to watch.
Arnaud Dupuis took charge of the 420R category when Tan Pye Sen dropped out of the race due to technical issues.
The main action was again seen in the Supersport Category with Sidqi Ahmad, Peter Reynolds and Henry Davis-Goff kept exchanging place through out the race until the last turn of the last lap where Peter's car went sliding off the track giving Sidqi the win. To Shirendra Lawrence's surprise he came to the last turn and saw Peter getting back on the track after his dramatic spin and charged his car to the finish line to finish 3rd.
Prince Lubricants would like to congratulate all the podium winners.

But I want you to do more than just watch a race. I want you to take part in it. I want to compare faith to running in a race. It's hard. It requires concentration of will, energy of soul. You experience elation when the winner breaks the tape - especially if you've got a bet on it. But how long does that last? You go home. Maybe your dinner's burnt. Maybe you haven't got a job. So who am I to say, "Believe, have faith," in the face of life's realities? I would like to give you something more permanent, but I can only point the way. I have no formula for winning the race. Everyone runs in her own way, or his own way. And where does the power come from, to see the race to its end? From within. Jesus said, "Behold, the Kingdom of God is within you. If with all your hearts, you truly seek me, you shall ever surely find me." If you commit yourself to the love of Christ, then that is how you run a straight race. | #chariotsoffire #ericliddell 📋 @grodesigns | 🌸 @grodesigns | 📷 @laylee_emadi_photography #GROinLOVE #GROwedding

Not even a full week since my last race and already getting those post-race blues. It’s a weird thing to feel, but it happens to some of us. Even though I should be resting/recovering, I get itchy feet so quickly and I start thinking about my next trail race adventures. At least I have a few social runs this month to keep things ticking over 👍🏻

Thank you Red Mist Activated, and everyone for the support, I was really down and hurt over the misfortune. Such a heartbreak after waiting a whole year to redeem ourselves. Ive tried to run an Ultra Beast again as I tried a year ago. That time I was not ready at all and this year I was just too slow 🐢 Even though I got disqualified because I missed the cut of by 3 minutes I was so happy. Maybe because I didnt have to run the rest of race 😅 But also because even though I was not able to finish the race I enjoyed every single moment of it. This race was one of those races that I will remember for ever. I am so glad that I had an opportunity to run with @robert_sykora and enjoy the race with him. We finished the beast with 30burpees which is pretty good and it took us 5:33 to make it to the first check point after 26km (16miles) with 2000m (6500ft) elevation.
When we realized that we wont make it the the check point on time we were so demotivated and we both agreed that this was or last try to run an Ultra but 10 minutes after the race we were already talking about our training plan so we will make it to the finishline next year. So hopefully next year I will finally make it!
Here I am, watching the rest of the Spartans doing their best out there 💪🏼 @spartanraceslovakia @spartan

A few weeks ago, Clare Gallagher (@clare_gallagher_runs ) gained enough qualification points to be able to run the real UTMB (170 km and 10 000m elevation gain), Her original plan was to race the TDS. She stopped by the Petzl Caravan for the last check on her headlamp with Greg (Lamp research and development department). We also got the chance to talk about her race tomorrow ⬇️
- “Hey Clare, tell us how you feel before this race.”
- Clare : “Wow I feel exited, this will be my first time on the Big One!!! And also the first time I will have to race through a whole night from dusk to dawn.”
- “Are you ready for that ? “
- Clare : “Yessss! In my preparation I raced a lot through spring and summer, Also I paced many friends other races, so I've been through many scenarios.”
- ”What is your goal on the UTMB”
- Clare : “Of course the ultimate goal I always have on a race is Podium, but being in the top 10 would be a huge success !!!! I'll give my best of course.” Clare we wish you all the best for tomorrow.
Good luck also to all runners involved in the races of #UTMB. Hope you will love the adventure.

Team HRC’s Tim Gajser wrapped up his MXGP of Turkey experience with second place overall, courtesy of a third and a second in the two motos contested today at Afyonkarahisar, where he showed great speed aboard his Honda CRF450RW. Gajser’s team mate Todd Waters was sixteenth and fourteenth in the two encounters, showing some more steps forward in what was a hot day in Western Turkey.

@tiga243
It’s been a good weekend and I really enjoyed it. The track was nice and I was feeling good on it; together with the team we worked hard and found a good set-up – and I felt as one with the bike. The qualifying race was good yesterday, but in race one today I struggled to find good lines and ended up pushing too hard. The second race was much better, and I made some passes at the beginning and then tried to close the gap to Jeffrey. In the end I got really close to him, but I couldn’t make a pass. Still, second overall is a great result, especially as it’s the second time in a row – and I’m now looking forward to Assen.

@toddwaters47
In race one I couldn’t find the flow to attack the track the way I wanted, while in the second moto I got a great start. Even though the first ten minutes were not really good, and after getting passed by a few riders I tried to relax and ride smoothly, and that’s when my speed improved. I stayed with Strijbos for most of the race and then everything was a lot easier! Overall I’m happy to leave with the good feeling I had on the last laps and hopefully we can build on that for the next race. I want to thank the team because they gave me a great bike.

A solid field has assembled and Helle will face tough competition from Sweden’s queen of triathlon Lisa Nordén 🇸🇪, USA’s Jocelyn McCauley 🇺🇸, UK’s Alice Hector 🇬🇧 and Belgium’s Kathrien Verstuyft 🇧🇪, among others. H is ready for a hard test, similar to Ötepaa 70.3 last year, we’ve chosen to build in a race to break up a long training block. Helle is here to race hard and the conditions should allow for some fast racing, despite being on the fresh side. At the moment air temperature is 11 Celsius and is expected to get close to 14 - 15 by the time the athletes hit the run course. So whilst it’s not exactly hot, there is no forecast for rain until later in the day. It’s a wetsuit legal swim and race start is 6:52 AM CET. I’ll try and check in during the race to provide updates if I have a data signal to do so ✌🏼 Thanks for all the support peeps, H really absorbs it all, so keep it coming 😎 #IM703Vichy #BP 💃🏼🇩🇰🏴󠁧󠁢󠁷󠁬󠁳󠁿

. #Repost with @Repostlyapp @hb_sdr1455 Looks like the @sdr_racing team brought in a first place finish. RECAP @wes_r_porter started the race with me and we ran a solid pace with no issues till @wmsracing_1487 jumped in AT rm228. Josh and I kept up the pace till we got a vibration at rm333. We swapped out the drive shaft and we pushed on. Made it to pit 14 to top off, and have a sandwich! I guess ur supposed to eat 😂 Getting back up and going we quickly realized we had a air bubble in the cooling system. Got that handled and we were back at it. We had zero flats and the truck ran perfect all day. Coming into the finish after a 534 mike race of the most beautiful dezert was the greatest feeling. To top it off we were surprised when @roost_n_ya_face walked up on stage to congratulate us. Best finish ever. To say I am proud of our team would be an understatement. They killed it. It was our 1st point to point race! It was a learning curve and I think they all did an awesome job. Special thx to @evan_weller_racing and @aj_beck88 for getting the truck race ready. I laugh a little to think that 3 years ago I was so focused on PRs that I may have passed up beautiful views at a trail race and *never* would have stopped to get a photo with Mickey during a race. 😜🙈 Not any more!
Here’s the goals for my 3 Fall races:
.

Vermont 25k Trail Race - Push my pace to achieve my best time in my 2nd trail race (which will be much slower than a road race) along with enjoying the scenery and having the best time with my friend @jessrunsblessed (Aug. 25 with @uamtnrunning )
.

Chicago Marathon - Beat last year’s time of 3:33 (Oct. 7)
.

Disney Wine & Dine Half Marathon - Dress in a fun costume, get my photo with Mickey and the characters, and still finish sub 1:45. (Nov. 4)
.

Who else is running these races? What is your Fall running plan? 🏃🏼‍♀️🏃🏼‍♂️

Today Garvey’s Pan-African flag, Red, Black & Green is 98 years old!
📸 Uche Onobie

Here is the Wikipedia source for its story
The Pan-African flag—also known as the UNIA flag, Afro-American flag, Black Liberation Flag and various other names—is a tri-color flag consisting of three equal horizontal bands of (from top down) red, black and green. The Universal Negro Improvement Association and African Communities League (UNIA-ACL) formally adopted it on August 13, 1920 in Article 39 of the Declaration of the Rights of the Negro Peoples of the World, during its month-long convention at Madison Square Garden in New York City. Variations of the flag can and have been used in various countries and territories in Africa and the Americas to represent Pan-Africanist ideologies. Several Pan-African organizations and movements have often employed the emblematic tri-color scheme in various contexts.

History Edit

Main article: Pan-Africanism

Sheet Music for "Every Race Has a Flag but the Coon"
The flag was created in 1920 by members of UNIA in response to the enormously popular 1900 coon song "Every Race Has a Flag but the Coon" which has been cited as one of the three songs that "firmly established the term coon in the American vocabulary". In a 1927 report of a 1921 speech appearing in the Negro World weekly newspaper, Marcus Garvey was quoted as saying:

Show me the race or the nation without a flag, and I will show you a race of people without any pride. Aye! In song and mimicry they have said, "Every race has a flag but the coon." How true! Aye! But that was said of us four years ago. They can't say it now.... The Universal Negro Catechism, published by the UNIA in 1921, refers to the colors of the flag meaning:

Red is the color of the blood which men must shed for their redemption and liberty; black is the color of the noble and distinguished race to which we belong; green is the color of the luxuriant vegetation of our Motherland.

In the words of the RD at the start: “this is a race, not a nature walk!” And what a race it is!
Unfortunately, I got food poisoning the morning of the race and while I got up and down the hill, it wasn’t quite as enjoyable of an experience as I’d anticipated. I was in and out of the bushes the whole race emptying my body of whatever crap got a hold of me. Still, it was one of the better events I’ve ever taken part in and hope to come back next year to put in a proper effort. Alaska rules! 📸 @mattybluu

Prior to @montreuxtrailfestival 35k I had raced @eigerultratrail 100k two weeks earlier and the week going into the race I had two hard workouts and climbed 12,000 feet in 4 days. I was a bit intimidated to add another 8,000 ft of climbing in 23 miles. At the start of the race I told myself I want to be "Savage". I don't care how tired I am, I just want to push through. As the race started I felt sluggish and tired but focused on the word "Savage" over and over again in my head. All day I ran in 4th place and on the last descent at 28k I decided to give myself a chance and let the word "Savage" take control. With 5k to go I passed 1st place and then with 4k to go, it happen. The night before the race it had rained - so hard that the 60k race that day needed to be delayed. For the whole race the course was quite slippery and very technical on the downhills ( what I ♥️) As I was coming around a conrner, in front of me was a whole bed of slick rocks and tree roots. Before I knew it, I was going head first into the rocks. I tried to put my arms out, but faild. At first, I screamed but got up fast. Feeling a bit dizzy I started to see blood. All I could think at this point was 1. "It's a head wound and they bleed a lot. 2." time to really be "Savage". As I started to run again, a thought came across my mind, "did you really have to pick Savage for your word of the day, now look at you". I laughed because it was all to good to be true. It just goes to show: thoughts become reality. Make sure to pick good ones 💥 In hindsight, maybe I should have focused more on "resilient", "enduring", "prevailing" but I chose Savage and Savage was earning 6 stitches and a 1st place!!!!! #zerolimits #altrarunning #spaltra #altraheadtotoe #camelbak #jaybirdsport #poweryourpassion #cebeeyewear #springenergy #springtribe #savage #faceplant #blackeye #nevergiveup #glamourshot #thepowerofthought PC 📸 @outdoorandnews @carole_pipolo

Antwerp marathon for the 3th time in a row I completed this amazing race 😁 I started this race full of self-confident , the day starts good with a little bit of sun, didn't feel any pain on my ankle which I suffered last week.
But everything changed.. during the race we faced the power of sun, the temperature had suddenly raised from 13 up to 20degrees and above, as it was not enough it was raining for a short period of time, as you already know my sandals and rain don't get alone it gets very slippy then. Despite of al this I still was on scheme to complete this race in around 2h35min but no after 21km I feeled some pain on my right ankle as I feared before, but I still continued running even when my mind says stop, the love of running and my good friend @_yvesvr which he stood the whole race next to me to provide carbonated drinks (@maurten_official ) for me keeps me going untill the end.

I ended this race in 2h46m, I dont have a finishsong because my battery went dead, the last song which I could remember was Jax Jones - Breathe 🎧 📷 @brochusbrewery

Ps: swipe right to see some action shots 😁

I’m addressing this today, because I have gotten a lot of comments similar to this one through out the years of interacting with people on this platform. Comments from black men saying they don’t date black women and them stating various reasons like; Mentality, behavior, and other explanations when asked WHY not! No matter what they reply, it is appalling and it disgusts me. Having resentment and hate towards any type of race or culture or a stereotype has to be the most ignorant and dumb thing in the world! Especially your own. You are speaking of women who has given birth to you, who are your sisters and who has taken care of you your whole life. Because some men think they have had a bad experience in life with someone from a certain race, they now shun everyone from that race. Does that make sense? It makes you sound dumb and ignorant and spiteful. I get so tired and frustrated with the lack of common understanding and the level of self hate some people carry. Black women have suffered. They really have. Being the strongest and most beautiful human beings I know of, they face so much hardship! Not only in the past but also in the present! Not only from the outside but also their own. How can an educated black man tell me that he stays away from black women because he has had a bad experience with one or two women in his life. No!! Stop giving black women a bad name! Stop showing hatred towards your own! Stop going into discussions with white women or women of other races to uplift them and speak well about them while bashing your own. It is as wrong and it disgusts me! It literally makes me feel sick!! We need love! We need faith, we need to care about one another! It is so simple yet so many people just find it so hard to live a positive life! They wanna dwell in negativity, they want to blame others for what they lack! Instead of blaming everyone else around you, look at yourself! If you deal with self hatred or you struggle to find happiness, then seek help for yourself. Do not ever blame an entire race, culture, country or gender for how you feel about yourself. This is 2019! Let’s be smarter! Stay out of my dm’s with ignorant comments like this!

At the time of saying that I had only ran one race before and that was back in 2007 the Nick Beer 10k in Llandudno. I started to run with Dafydd Hughes thinking I have a year to sort myself out.
On the 24th of August I ran the ras Tri Chopa Yr Eifl before the race I saw a facebook competition which was to guess the fastest time for the race and the winner would win an entry to the Winter Edition of Pen Llyn Ultra, my guess of 45 mins was correct and I won a free entry to the Winter Edition of Pen Llyn Ultra!
Realising that the race was only two and a half months away I had to have a crash course in ultra marathon running, thanks to the support of family members and Huw Williams Bev Atkin, Becky Hughes, Hugo Thomas, Caren Jones Parc Wernol Gordon Hughes Mark Southee and if I missed someone else thanks to you to I went about training.

But as all training goes I had to have a little hick up, a groin injury four weeks before the ultra and as it started to heal a slip at work that aggravated it again! So I had a six week problem to get rid of in three weeks, so I had to rest which meant no running for four weeks. Big thanks to Protec physio for trying to sort me leg out on the Thursday before the race so I felt good enough to start.

Saturday I ran the race and finished in a time of 9hrs 43mins, from about mile 6 I was in pain due to my groin/knee and couldn’t run at my usual pace plus I had not been running for a while due to injury, I carried on as stopping was not an option I wanted to show Cian and Danial that I could do this and I had dedicated the race to Donna, my race number was a number I requested number 16, Donna would have been 42 this Friday the 16th of November.

Having seen the bravery, love and strength shown by Donna throughout her illness and her everlasting smile throughout her illness has changed my outlook on life, it has made me a stronger person and it has made me realise that you have to live in the now.

I now have a Pen Llyn #Ultramarathon Winter Edition medal but still I haven’t got the summer medal so guess what I will be doing one day in June 2019

I’d be lying to you, to myself, if I said my goal for last Saturday’s @thegrandtraverse 40-mile run wasn’t another podium. All my preparation, all my previous races pointed at this probable outcome. Yet, with one mile before the final aid station, and a bread and butter descent to the finish in Aspen, what felt like a well executed race changed drastically.
.
Just as I was kicking into my reserves, ready to bring out everything I’d been saving by running conservatively for hours, a small cramp in my abdomen manifested into something more. Profound pain had me buckled over on the side of the trail stunned, unable to run and hardly able to breathe. I knew in that moment, as several strong runners began to pass me, that the race wasn’t going to finish how I’d envisioned. Deep feelings of failure began to overwhelm me. I couldn’t believe it. I felt my body had given up on me.
.
I’ve said it time and time again here. I never race for results or validation. I race to experience the collective energy of so many like minded people. I race because that uplifting energy allows us to transcend what we thought possible. I race because I love that these events represent something more than just the palpable idea that collaboration is always greater than competition. I race because it is greater. I race because I love it.
.
In those moments of intense pain, it was pure willpower and that alone which allowed me to stumble toward that final aid. And, as I got closer, the cheers and encouraging volunteers, their smiles, and words, even from one of my hero’s, @robkrar, got me moving a bit better. Uplifted me. Brought me back to my present mind set. I rallied. Thank you.
.
Again, these events are and will always be a race against one and a collaboration of many. From those smiling volunteers, to supportive friends, family and sponsors. To my amazing coach @addiedoesstuff, thank you. As in racing, just like in life, the journey to the finish line is technically done alone through individual action, but the support and presence of other players, experiencing their own journeys, which overlap with your own, can’t ever be overlooked or under appreciated. #liveforthemoment

.
1️⃣- You can finish a race no matter how hard the weather is or how tired you are, if you are mentally strong, you will surely cross the finish line.
.
.
2️⃣- This was the most important media marathon for me, why? because I realized that finishing a half marathon at 1:45 was not impossible at all. If you train and have clear goals, you will surely achieve it. At the end of the race I felt really good. I knew I could do better if I push myself harder the next race
.
.
3️⃣- The wind is one of the worst enemies you can have in a race. The effort is almost double. I ended up quite tired but the goal was achieved. (Break the 1:40). I learned that after a race I can not eat anything because it gives me a stomachage, I can only eat chocolate. .
.
4️⃣- Running with friends/pacer in a race is great to achieve your goals because both help maintain the pace. Running with cold weather is the best, I can do my best when it’s cold outside .
.
5️⃣- If you want to run a PR (Personal Record) in a race, you must arrive at least one hour before. In this race I arrived late, the experience was terrible at the beginning, I had to start running faster than normal to be able to pass people. I lost a lot of energy at the beginning. The first miles you should start at a pace that you feel comfortable with, fast but without much effort and progressively increase it until you reach the pace you want for the race.
.
.
Every time I run a race, I want to improve myself. My next half marathon will be approximately in 2 and a half months and I would like to break the 1:20 ... and why not better than 1:19?📍Fort Lauderdale, Florida 🌎 (📷: @lucholj) Follow @worlderunners for more.

The rest of the race consisted of safety cars and finally ended with a red flag after a big crash on the start finish straight! Couldn’t have asked for a better weekend all together, I’m also glad the drivers in the incident are all okay! @bodyhq @mamaksmex #brandshatch #p1 #monoposto #formulaM

Above all the things I learned yesterday, I learned to divide my race into 4 parts (4 X 10k + 2.2 miles) and think about completing each section to the best of my ability. Once I would arrive at the each aid station, I would stop completely, take a moment and breath. Think about what my body was telling me in that moment, take hydration and fuel that treated my body best for the section ahead and continue on. This process of compartmentalization (the process of dividing a task into sections or categories) was important to my mental outlook on finishing and enjoying the race. This race grew me mentally because I’ve often become overwhelmed with any task that takes this amount of time. When you sign up for a race this long, you are committing your mind and body to something that is outside of your comfort zone. Even if you have run multiple marathons or ultra races, each race is different and equally difficult, no matter how trained your physical body is. Pushing yourself outside of your comfort zone is just that, uncomfortable and not natural but learning something new about yourself is a priceless experience.

My first race back in the car after 2 years and my first time competitively running in the monoposto championship! In the Championship there are multiple classes that are all racing in the same race meaning that traffic comes up very quick and makes really enjoyable racing to be in and watch! We managed to only go and win our class and get P2 overall in race 1! And we felt as a team we had tested what we needed to, so we didn’t do race 2. Now that we are fully happy with how the car performs and myself after being out of the car for so long we will continue to do all of the races from here on out! Roll on Silverstone 13/14 of October! “...But those who wait on the LORD Shall renew their strength. They shall mount up with wings like eagles. As you wait & hope ... “...But those who wait on the LORD Shall renew their strength. They shall mount up with wings like eagles. They shall run and not be weary....” - ‭‭Isaiah‬ ‭40:30-31‬ ‭

Your season of waiting comes with a free guaranteed provision of fresh strength that is always renewed. As you wait & hope in the Lord God promises to give you wings that will enable you to reach new heights, to bring you levels & dimensions you could not reach nor enter before.

The Lord is dusting someone's wings today and propeling them in the wind of the Spirit so they can take off again and go higher. When I read this I get excited because I know time isn’t wasted. I'm busy running. I’m going places as I wait! As I’m writing, I'm seeing people dust off their running shoes to run with the fire of God! Some had given up because they grew weary of waiting and lost their hope. In my spirit I see someone that was running but at some point allowed certain situations to stop them from running; I see someone who allowed disapointments to get them out of the race; someone who let sickness come in their way of staying in their purpose-driven race; someone who went through a heart-break and ever since told themselves that there is no more reason to hope. I specifically see a student who stopped their leg of the race because of academic struggles and fustration. There is also someone here- you know someone who passed away because of cancer and because of that you lost your purpose in running the race. You got angry because God didn't heal that person the way you had hoped he would. You felt like you waited and prayed for nothing. If that's you, pls dm I want to pray for you... I don’t know what you’ve been waiting & hoping in the Lord for but today, the Holy Ghost says"Just a little while, He who is coming will come and will not delay." Don't stop hoping, don't stop praying, serving, perserving, beleiving, running, walking; don't you dare stop waiting on God! Don’t miss out on all the benefits and advantages promised for those waiting: Fresh new strength, renewed vigour, heights and dimensions that makes you see the world from an angle demons can't reach. You’re going places. ✨ #newheights #oilofjoy

Photos' credit @ronaldinho_q8 who isn't a photographer so that was really impressive! Thanks 🙏يابعدي

After last year's race, I posted "there's only one way to return to that race, #stronger "
I didn't know I would have 2 sets of surgeries before the next race, I didn't know that I would be on morphine and would still be screaming from the pain, I didn't know it will take me a long time to recover, especially after the surguries 6 months prior to this race, I am working to get my strength back still.

I registered for the race not even knowing if I would be able to finish it before the cutoff time or if I would finish it period, and #Alhamdulillah I did!

it was tougher than last year, there was a sand storm which made me wear the ginger runner buff in a weird way to block the sand, @ethannewberry thank you for the art and functionality of this thing! it was a saviour, it doesn't hurt my breathing, I can see a little bit through it! and it's just perfect! you need to make more stuff!
Thank you @pv.events for a superb job, thanks toll all the volunteers, and thanks to the participants, all did well!

Well Anglesey wasn’t quite the way we were looking for it to go, in qualifying we had low oil pressure cause the car to go into limp mode so I had to do a very slow lap to not upset the car but still managed to put it on 1st in our class and 2nd overall. But with only a hour after qualifying there wasn’t much we could do until the start of the first race. So we did what we could which dramatically reduced the issue during the first race to allow me to finish 1st in class and 2nd overall which was great considering our issues. When we got back to the garage after race 1 and looked at the data it was only getting worst and we were just postponing the issue, so because of that we decided we wouldn’t carry on to do the second race! However with that issue during the race and 3 meeting old tires on the car we still managed to set the new Monoposto Moto 1000 class outright lap record by a second which was another great note to end on! Onwards and upwards for next year, much more development in the making for the new car we are developing! Next year the car won’t look like this again, thank you guys for all your support through the season this year I can’t wait to see what next year has in store for us!! 🏎 I would also like to thank @bodyhq for coming down and supporting us more great results to come next year!! #bodyhq #monoposto #angleseycircuit #FormulaM #development #seeyounextyear

Well this post is throwing back all the way to before 1939! First up is a lovely Italian stallion. The Alfa Romeo 8C Monza. Packing 2.6 litres of supercharged, twin cam, straight eight goodness under that long bonnet this vintage racing legend could churn out 215bhp shunting this blue streak from 0-60mph in under 7 seconds and on to a (relatively speaking) whopping top speed of 135mph! On track that ‘charged straight 8 sound biblical. The second shot is of a Talbot Lago T150C battling through the spray. A properly niche French car company this car was built to exploit the new category at LeMans, the 4-litre category. So fitted with a newly enlarged 3994cc straight six (technically a Hemi, but don’t tell Mopar), fed by three Stromberg carbs, this monstrous unit produced a healthy, if optimistic 200bhp. However, the French being, french, went on strike and the ’36 LeMans race was cancelled, so the T150C debuted at the French Grand Prix. Wearing the number 7 and number 9 are a brace of lovely MG Montlherys. Based on the M-Type Midget, this was a race car built to break a record. The record in question was the 24 hours race at Autodrome de Montlhéry in France. This tiny racers are powered by a 750cc supercharged four cylinder, producing 52.4 bhp and breathing out through a gorgeous fishtail exhaust. Another bolt of blue with car 27, this is another MG, the L Manga. Running here with a 1.5 litre supercharged straight 6. A similar model sold last year at Sotheby’s for $82,500. The little red number in the next shot is a H.R.G. 1 1/2 litre. Described in a review at the time as being a genuine 80mph sports two seater. Excellent performance and vivacity combined. Tucked in behind the little H.R.G. is a Morgan Aero Supersports, a funky V-Twin powered three wheeler. In 1930, WW1 Ambulance Driver, Gwenda Stewart set a speed record of 113mph in a race tuned Morgan. And last but by no means least, a Riley Sprite Special running the 12/4 1.5 litre four cylinder. Some very old race car goodness, battling it out on a soaking track.

It took me a while to recover from this little adventure but I certainly wanted to memorialize the culmination of a decision made earlier this year. @sdzanelli wants one more trip to Boston and I decided I would rather participate than spectate. The training began in earnest early June and began #PRseason. In the process I discovered new feats of speed and endurance while adding ridiculously long runs to my usual summer shenanigans. I would race Saturdays and do the long runs Sundays. There were even a couple runs following weekend races. It was an adventure for sure! And I even got some owies along the way.

I wasn't sure if I was ready when race day came. Shannon and I had some rough ideas about fallback races if we didn't execute the plan. A change to the Boston Marathon qualifying times was a late surprise but we planned for large margins in our race pacing.
Race day came and we were both excited and a tad nervous for this one. We both wanted to make qualifying times and finish the run without injury. It was a GLORIOUS day to race, cool and calm. It was a small joy to see friends and fellow athletes getting ready for their own zippy adventures. #thesearemykindofpeople

The race itself was performed in typical fashion by yours truly. I jackrabbited the start and had one helluva half marathon going out. Coming back was where the miles caught up to me. One day I will respect pacing better but I guess I was due for one helluva experience for the last 10k. #ohmahlegs

The medal represents the end of #PRSEASON for a while, with my longest run and fastest marathon. Bonus medal for placing 2nd in the age group.
Extra special bonus: Shannon and I got some decent qualifying times for Boston 2020.

Fantastic venue, perfect weather, and overall great experience. TLDR - 4:57:08, 2nd AG, 13th OA, AND a slot for 70.3 Worlds in Nice!! Just a few highlights and lessons learned from my day:
— No expectations racing! I learned just how crucial this mindset is for me earlier in the season, and this race reinforced that. This was meant to be my last “A” race of the season...and changed to a “race prep race” a few weeks ago when I signed up for IMLOU. There was zero traditional taper here - I had some pretty tough sessions last week! Happy to report this didn’t really phase me one bit. Went into the weekend with a positive mindset, and a commitment to work with what my body had, whatever that might be. I had zero time goals, zero race outcome goals. And I’m finding that the more I can shove that stuff from my mind, the better.
— I woke up race morning feeling super nauseous, and my deluxe applesauce breakfast was extremely difficult to get down at 3:15am 🤢 (ohhhh the things we do for this crazy sport!). The motion of the ocean and saltwater didn’t really help that one bit, nor did getting clocked in the back of the head in the last stretch of the swim. I was going to try to push some more calories on the bike; all chances of that happening went out the window fast, as I just tried to hang onto getting in the minimum planned. I gave myself a few miles on the run to settle in and see if the ick feeling would pass; it didn’t. Had a little chat with myself, and settled on coke and walking the remaining aid stations. This helped! I definitely took the run more conservative than I probably needed to, especially given that my body felt strong running, but I think I played it smart and 1 - didn’t end up doubled over on the side of the road, and 2 - didn’t completely bury myself leading up to an almost 20 hour training week. It’s taken some time and experience to begin to figure out how to troubleshoot these issues; I’m proud of myself for managing what was going on and not letting it get the better of me. 👇🏻 continued in comments 👇🏻

Missing the sun, sweat and mud already!!! ☀️💦🍫 Almost one week on... and still can’t believe we completed our SPARTAN TRIFECTA!!! 🏅🎖🥉 It was so special coming back to Iskandar Puteri to do our last and longest race of the year - the 21km Spartan Beast, that would determine if we would be joining the #trifectatribe , bcos this was where we did our first ever race last year (5km Sprint) as complete NOOBS HAHA but fell in love with OCR we couldn’t stop! 4 races on and with each race we’re getting better, stronger, faster, more well-prepared/equipped (now I’ve got high socks, arm sleeves, even a hydration pack and energy gels to fuel us along! THIS IS SO IMPORTANT COS GETTING STUCK SUCKS UP ALL YOUR ENERGY FOR NOTHING 👎🏼😡 I can’t wait to do more races soon!!! 👊🏼🙌🏼🙌🏼 And always lovely to meet fellow racers from around the world with the same love for the sport and amazing to see/hear inspiring stories of people from all walks of life joining the race, pushing ourselves to our physical and mental limits and seeing what we’re really made of! Wow... this weekend has been crazy at @worcsracing in lake havasu round 4 and 5 one of the roughest and tightest tracks I've ever raced, it was a challenge that's for sure. First day of racing Saturday: started the race pretty good then on my second lap I blew a belt due to my transmission dropping out of alignment but put another @ultimaxbelts on it and caught up to the pack picking one by one off. Ended up getting third🥉. On the last day of racing Sunday: started the race good off the finish line the track was brutal, later on during the race my shocks got really hot... thinking I broke something in my front end causing me to go slow around the track. Finished 5th at the end of the day looked over the car nothing was broken. Really happy with the way the car and the engine and tranny held up had a lot of power @addictracingengines @cyroheat , couldnt thank my dad @meckler for helping me out and getting me ready for the race and the car ready for the race means a lot!!! Also would like to thank @darian_228 For being there to support me😜 and for taking a lot of really good pics of me @4dsracing_hickeyracing lastly I would like to thank my sponsors for keeping me going and on the track @ultimaxbelts passed the test really happy with their awesome belts even for not breaking in the belts before the race!! @prpseats @superatv_com @addictracingengines @cyroheat @badassunlimited @gbcmotorsports @1_r_s_k_1 Super stoked for the next race at the orleans round 6 in Las Vegas April 1-2nd!!! Going to be very fun!!! @worcsracing

Saturday morning started off cold but dry but due to practice being red flagged for another rider, I only managed 2 laps. Qualifying I was able to put in a few more laps but I hadn’t really found my rhythm with the track.
Just before the start of the 1st race it started raining 🌧 (not heavy but “mental rain” that threw me off) Last minute I decided to put a wet front in but this meant that I was still tightening my front wheel when the race started!! After a rush to get ready, I started from the pit lane. I managed to push and battle my way up to 27th before the race was red flagged for my team mate @nathanker_143
During lunch the rain had settled in. By my 2nd race it was snowing and I had changed to full wets. I managed to get one of my best starts all year but as the dirt section was taken out due to the rain, I was caught off guard by the mud that was on the track and crashed out on the first lap. After getting up, I set off dead last, again🙄. The wet conditions really suited me and I fought from the back to 15th. I came back covered in mud with a massive grin on my face 😁. For the final race I got a good start and continued where I left off in the second race, battling my way through the pack with the rain and snow still coming down. I felt comfortable on the KTM 350 and my best lap time from that race matched those of the Bs and even a rider in the A race!! After a few ups and downs I finished 14th overall.
Thank you to everyone who has helped me, not only this weekend but all season. If I wasn’t for my Dad I wouldn’t have been able to ride at all this year. I’d also like to thank Nora sport for putting on an exceptional championship, Laura and Amy for my pep talks all year and David for always taking the time to tell me when I riding like girl 😂
Many thanks also to the photographers that spend their weekends taking photos of all the riders. Thanks rob, peter and John.
I can definitely now say that I’ve crash tested my @ravengoggles and there’s not a mark on them! Thanks to @ghostbikes , @24mx , Raven Goggles and @owkayclothing for the support, I’m already looking forward to the 2019 season!!🔜

Sudah punya agenda race tahun depan?.
.
@volcanorun2019 .
Tetap semangat sehat selalu. ✊🏻.

Even got through a few of the obstacles by myself that I couldn’t at the last race (inverted wall, slip wall)! Huge 15 min PR on my half marathon today (as well as a ton of other distances)! @shottowen gave me a goal of running negative splits this race, and I’m proud to say that I did that until I had a major hamstring cramp at just before 10 miles. I’m ecstatic that I ran those 10 miles without stopping (that’s NEVER happened). Today I’m thankful for so many things but this race brought some into the front of my mind: @shottowen for believing in me and calling me out when he saw I was slacking, @mccaffrey_chris for fitting me in some badass @nike race shoes and @2xu_northamerica compression leggings, @kaityco for the late night encouragement, Vaqar and @p_graham_ for always being my race buddies, and so many more. I can’t wait to see what’s next on the racing front, but first, time to rest and EAT!
Happy Thanksgiving, everyone!

To say the least, It was a rough race weekend 🤦🏽‍♂️. After swapping to the white tiger’s engine and doing good in the morning warm up, all was well. Then in the first race we ruptured a boost hose causing the car to lose power and a DNF for that race. We replaced the hose and went out in our second race, all was well again until the third lap where the engine developed an oil leak which made its way to the exhaust manifold and caused a fire. Thankful we got the fire out with the quick response and assistance of “Bean” , @stephen_gunter and others who were nearby. Fortunately nothing important was burnt, but unfortunately we didn’t have a replacement for the seal that caused the leak so our day was ended. Big Thanks to all who helped us out, next year we will be back bigger and better but until then, as the great horseP @wayne.wallace.1804 always says, “That’s Racing”.

On Monday I´m racing my 13th straight ÖTILLÖ. Being the only one taking part in every single race since 2006 makes me very proud!
My re-cap of the formative years of this beast of a race continues.
2008 was the first year of the ”new” @otillorace. It was also the year I won for the first time.
Following changes are worth mentioning:
-no mandatory safety vest
-no mandatory fins/zoomers to carry in backpack
-the long run, 20 k, on Ornö was transformed to a bike leg, bikes that the organizers supplied. They were so called ”island bikes”, granny bikes with three gears equipped with big ol´ baskets in front! Actually, an important part of race equipment this year was puncture gear!
The reason for the bike leg was that organizers felt the course was TOO long and TOO hard (only four finishing teams in two years) and that a bike leg would cut race time by an hour or so.
2008 also saw a major increase in participants. From maybe 8-10 teams in 2007 to more than 25 teams in 2008.
Me and Pasi Salonen teamed once again. The new equipment rules lured us in to a ”final attempt” as we had been so fed up with swimming in safety vests and such in the past. With new rules we could go minimalistic! We knew we were fast runners and swimmers but also that the key to succeed were transitioning in-between. With some 46 transitions one could waste hours by doing constant gear adjustments. You go fast at ÖTILLÖ by never standing still!
We pretty much nailed the equipment to the standard that still remains to this day although we also wore fanny pack fluid systems. I also found a pair of shoes that I loved and wore for the consecutive five years, Saucony Type A. Low to the ground, wide forefoot and with a great grip.
I remember showing up in great shape too. I came off a 5th place at ITU Worlds Long Distance in Almere and had ran the final 30 k in 1.55 at that race.
Finally, after two DNF, me and Pasi had a supreme race and won in 10.14, about 25 minutes ahead of 2nd place. I wrote a race report on @slowtwitch and the word about this crazy Swedish race began to spread.

Yesterday, i finished the Northcape-Tarifa-Race and @steffenstreich and @andybuchs welcomed me with beers. This last 3 weeks were unbelievable hard for body and mind. Being in a constant race-mode for weeks and keeping up the motivation and completing the route with gravel roads, climbing mountains and going through extreme weather conditions, i learned alot about myself and how far i can go and if i can push just a little more and more...This race teached me also alot about tactics and strategy in endurance cycling and how important it is to look after yourself all the time and always safe a little extra energy in your legs before the finish. I will take home lots of experience that will help me in the next adventures, not only on the bike but also in life itself. I met beautiful and awesome people all along the way since i started my journey up to the northcape and in the race itself. I want to thank everybody out there, who is part of my life adventure, helped me on my way and sent me congrats. This achievement couldn't have been done with all you great people out there. ❤ Keep pedaling my friends! #nctr2018 #bemoremike

Growing up I always knew I wanted to be in the automotive industry whether it was working on cars or racing them. When I was little I had the speed, but never had the funds to go racing. So I threw away a dream I thought could never be achieved. Until 4 months ago my dad said "let’s have a meeting with @drivingcoachdieter , and see if we can even race". Dieter said without hesitation " let’s do it!” right off the bat, no questions asked, then he set up a drivers training day with @drakekemper and off we ran with no plan or knowledge of whats to come or even knowing how to drive a race car. I’m now sitting here in the airport ready for my first pro race this weekend at a world famous track called COTA. I look back in awe of the support team I’ve had throughout this journey, whether it was working on my 3 year old car build, to texting me have a good race or giving me pointers. From, pro racers to family to trainers I love you all, and no matter where I end up in the championship I know that my support team is the best that any driver could have. thank you for this opportunity and patience and support now....let’s go racing! @neemadotjpeg @elfmar @racermcgee @m.gonzalez88 @bgnracing @sicksideways

Friday qualifying was canceled due to the weather so the staging order was decided by a "pill draw" for starting positions. I ended up pulling last place and started in the back of the pack for Saturday's short course race. I managed to work my way the third within the first lap and battled with my good friends @jeremiahwagner77 who took home 2nd and @ssracing86 who got the win! Ended up breaking my right rear hub, break caliper, axel due to hitting a g-out. We felt really confident going into Sunday's full course "gp" style dessert race. I got out in front early on and maintained my second place position for the entire race. With 200 feet until the finish line and a second place trophy, my transmission blew out the side of the case and ended the race for me. @jeremiahwagner77 finished with the overall finish for the @worcsracing first annual sxs world finals championship. I couldn't be more proud and I couldn't thank my dad enough and letting me have this privilege @meckler and @katievernola thanks a lot for helping out getting parts!!! A big congratulations to @samweir_ultra for achieving his dream, conquering one of the worlds toughest foot races... @badwaterhq in Deathvalley🏃🏼🔥. Amazing Sam. We are extremely proud of you. _______________________________________________ #repost Sam- Today marked the finish of a dream. Badwater135 I can officially say I have done. It's been an intense 6months leading into the race and was only made possible by each and everyone of you that I'm happy to say I call you family. You all believed in me,supported me and backed me 100 percent.
I can only say this was made possible because of you.

Badwater135 is the toughest most brutal race I have ever done! I don't even know how to describe it.
Ran well till 90mile then the body shut down, throwing up and only being able to stomach water for the rest of the race. They talk about when you cannot move no more from extreme exertion that if you were then chased by a lion you would run. This race used up that reserve tank and pushed new boundaries.

The support crew of Brendon Martin Jaime Martin and my dad Dale Aitkenhead stepped above there duties to make everything possible, hosing me down every 2miles and keeping me moving forward when the body was empty.
I am ever so grateful they have been there from day one and have never doubted a dream.

Thank you to every one who followed online and to my partner Casey Wilkinson for all ways being there. and well done to the Aussies who all raced and all crossed the line! 💙
By the way a lot of you asked me how come that I‘m part of the Trek MTB team, road team and cyclocross team. Well it was not like Trek just said ‚hey, raise your hand if you want to join!‘ I first had to earn my spot. I‘m 2x Swiss Champion on the road and was 8th at the Olympic Games Rio 2016. Honestly, I was pretty frustrated after that race because I was racing alone without any team mates and you simply can‘t match the strength of the big road nations with 5 team players. I told myself that I don‘t ever want to race on the road again unless I would be part of the best team in the world. And, realistically, this was pie in the sky. 🍰💭 So I didn‘t race anymore until Trek reached out to me last summer and asked if I wanted to become part of the best road team in the World. I was like - wait, what? Can this be true? Yes please, take me!!! 😍 so here I am!
And it‘s also not like I can just cherry pick my races. 🍇 The @treksegafredo women‘s team is STACKED with the best riders of the world, and first of all, I want to prove that I‘m able to race my bike. Obviously Trek wants to show up with their very best roster at races, and I will only be selected when I earn my spot. I‘m eager to work for the team, to learn heaps and to form the best road team in the world together with these amazing girls! #TrekSegafredo #WorldTour #WomensCycling #TrekFactoryRacing #betterwithbikes #believeinbikes

Your team mate starts the race he or she does a lap and comes in the pits and they take off the panties and the other team mate puts it on then jumps on the bike and does a lap. It’s a 1.5 hour race. Our friends Kevin and Tony took 2nd place. Nicholas finished his race in 3rd and finished 3rd in the championship points. I would like to thank @roseville_yamaha_kawi @spyoptic @onealracing for your help and support threw this season.

Danial Syahmi finished 2nd in Race 1 yesterday and he really wanted to win today in Race 2. He leads the race in most of the laps. Unfortunately, in the straight line before finishing the race Danial touched with Noguchi, he crashed and one of the riders hit his leg. I was standing at the finish line and for me it was not a usual racing incident. Danial flown straight to Hospital Kuala Lumpur by the Medical Helicopter right after the incident and now he’s in an operation room to operate his leg. Pray that he succeed the surgery and will come back stronger

Building race engines is just so much more rewarding than buying race engines. Most people see “engine damage” as a failure. On the other hand, we find that when the race engine have issues, analyzing why they got damaged and finding a solution to the problem makes us better as local mechanics and tuners. It makes us appreciate the new levels of power and understand when and how to apply it during the race. Remember, There can be no progress without struggle. Buy Jamaican , Build Jamaica.

-
LOTOJA was a monster. Pulled a friend for 160 miles. She dropped and I had short time to finish the remaining 40 miles before they closed the course. Made it in with probably seconds to spare.
-
Pacing @mtn.runner.matt for a chunk of the #Wasatch100 certainly gave me the itch to do an ultra at some point, though for now it’s outta the picture as the training is completely counter to optimizing for sprint / oly-distance tris.
-
Lots of XTERRA bibs in there as the race producers have been so generous to invite me onto the course when I’m there with @Suunto sharing our great watches with their participants and spectators.
-
Coldest swim: you’d think it would be when I swam in glacial runoff in Alaska but nope, it was this spring in Salem.
-
Hardest bike: either HarryMan or Timberman, in the rolling hills of NY and NH. And I wasn’t in shape then.
-
Best run: SLC Haunted Half 2017, running down Emigration in under 1:25. It’s a nice downhill and never too steep to do damage.
-
Most-Repeated Race: Jordanelle Tri Aug ‘16, ‘17, ‘18 was my first age group win and first time on an overall podium
-
Best overall tri: 2nd to Jordanelle, I really enjoyed Powell3 in Lake Powell and had an amazing run that year. It was the closest I’ve been to winning a race outright and could have had I not fiddled so long with getting my wetsuit off. That was 2016. I now have T1s+T2s usually in the top 5 and had both the fastest T1 and T2 at Brineman this year. Too bad Powell3 is done.
-
Worst performance: @runutahvalley 2016. Popped a caffeine pill just before we started (never had before) and got dehydrated half way thru. Got so out of the zone I pulled out my phone and started texting people. Walked most of the last 10k home. Was my A race for the year and missed qualifying for Boston completely ... by 45 minutes (+2 min/mile). Props to @vanessaoler who was there at both marathons that year.

This probably isn’t how most people cross the finish line of a 76 mile race with 15k feet of climbing, but my goals may have been different than most as well. @parkcitypoint2point was an awesome test of how far I could ride in a day and still have fun! Naturally I had to manual into the finishing area, carving around the last corner on one wheel! I rode my @diamondbackbike Catch set up as a lightweight 130mm travel full suspension 29er, it was a perfect match for my goals in the race, although probably wouldn’t have been a race winning bike, but I wasn’t trying to win either, that’s @keegels99 ‘s job!
