My favorite thing about the push-up is that, like a plank, it’s a great core exercise when done properly! 🙌
Here are a couple common ways I see it done that could be one of your causes for shoulder pain!
.
🔸ELBOWS FORCED OUT🔸
If you force the elbows out at the bottom of a push-up, you’re actually giving yourself a self-impingement test every time you lower 😳
That can’t be fun. The upper arm turns into internal rotation, naturally closing the space between the acromion process and your tendons and then adding force to the area as you go down. That’s a sure way to fire up that shoulder. 🔥
Instead, think of just allowing the elbows to bend naturally. They should end up in more of a diagonal pattern, following what us clinicians call - scaption.

🔸SHOULDERS DIVING FORWARD🔸
Often times, if you don’t quite have the strength to complete a full push-up, your body will compensate by diving the shoulders forward (I see this often in chaturanga).
Most of us already have a lot of anterior pressure on that shoulder from being on phones or computers all day. There is NO need to increase this force by adding your own body weight.
Instead, don’t worry about touching your chest or nose to the floor right now. Drop the ego, don’t bend the elbows as far and work your way up to a deeper push-up.

If you don’t have a valslide disc (featured) handy, you can use a hand towel on a hardwood floor, and if you don’t have that, it is totally possible to do this with zero equipment (I have another client who does). It’s just a bit more challenging and less pretty, but just as effective. 💎💎💎
And let’s just be REALLY clear: the standard push-up is an EXCELLENT but under appreciated strength and muscle building tool! 💎💎💎

CF is backed up by DATA used to measure fitness across broad time and modal domains.

“Work capacity is the ability to perform real physical work as measured by force x distance / time (which is average power). Fitness is this ability in as many domains as possible”.

•The best advice I can give sometime to starting CF is to find an affiliate, try it for at least a month to understand the foundation of what it is and how it works

•Perspective: It took me over 3 MONTHS to even differentiate all the different lifts; squat, deadlift, clean and jerk, hang clean, hang power clean, strict press, push press, push jerk, split jerk, snatch, hang snatch, hang power snatch, hang muscle snatch, etc. alone and over a YEAR to understand a bit of the gymnastics components & another few years of CF to understand what INTENSITY actually looks like.

Sometimes CF WODS (Workout Of the Day) are TIME PRIORITY: complete x amount of work within x amount of time. Your total reps is your score. This type of workout can be called an AMRAP, TABATA or even EMOM. I can get more into this in later posts of each variation.

The following CF WOD is WORK PRIORITY, meaning that I must complete the written work and it is usually scored “For Time”.
.
I usually share my times for reference and self accountability. For this next month while I am recovering, I may keep that info to myself 😚💗 so I can focus on healing a bit before I am 100%

Instead: do a negative push-up with a 3-4 second down to build eccentric strength (negative strength). This will make you STRONGER so you can do a regular push-up in no time! Go to FAILURE for a few sets just like @stepitupwithsteph did!

Check yourself! (Before you wreck yourself - sorry, I had to say it lolz 👀)

A great way of checking if you’re doing press ups right is either by using a mirror or setting up your phone camera and filming yourself, or getting your mate to do it - you might either be pleasantly or unpleasantly surprised with your form!
.
Try it: Film your push up and check for the following:
.
📝 Hips lower down at the same time as your chest, don’t float your booty in the air - now’s not the time 🌝 unless of course you’re doing a table top press up
📝 Hands slightly wider than shoulder width apart
📝 Elbows go back (if there was an aerial view of you, you would like an arrow ⬆️ NOT a T) letting your elbows flare outwards is tough on them, be kind to them!
📝 Core engaged and pelvis tucked
📝 REMEMBER: There’s no shame in doing push ups on your knees if you can’t do them on your toes yet. They are called assisted press ups, not girly press ups

Qué resultados mostramos❓ ➡️ En la infografía os detallamos los grados de inclinación posterior (movimiento sobre el eje lateromedial que pega el ángulo inferior al tórax) 👁
Como véis, en la flexión 2️⃣ (la abducida) hay menos inclinación posterior y por tanto, más inclinación anterior; un aspecto que hay que controlar si queremos tener un hombro más funcional y sano.

Por qué te decimos esto❓ ➡️ Porque los pacientes con dolor de hombro tienen un rango menor y por tanto incapacidad para generar inclinación posterior en comparación con los sujetos sanos en una elevación de hombro (Ludewig et al 2000). Este déficit se asocia a un descenso del espacio subacromial (Park 2011) y está asociado al dolor en un arco de movimiento de 60 grados de elevación (Michener 2004)

I often get asked what motivates me to work so hard...my response is always - I’m doing it so why not go full force? There is not point in going half way. If I got myself to the gym I’m going all in to make the most of the workout or else it was just a waste of my time. Yes, we all have days where we don’t feel like it, but having goals and regularly checking in on those goals is what will keep your Motivated!!

My motivation to push myself in the gym is to just simply see how far I can push this body of mine. I know it’s capable of building a human, so really the possibilities are endless!!!

Instead of going into your workout with the mindset of “i don’t want to be here” go in with the mindset of “i can’t wait to smash this workout and push myself as hard as I can”. Don’t put yourself in a box, I have seen so many clients come into my gym having never lifted a weight in their life and in just a few short months they are doing exercises and lifting weights they would have never imagined they would be able to do!!

✅Draw your shoulder blades together and down
✅ Pull your chin in/make sure your head is in line with your spine with a neutral focus (not looking forward)
✅ Pull your ribs together and down
✅ Tuck you pelvis (to get to neutral)
💪🏼Thennnnnnnnnn you can start your push-ups.
🚨If this is too hard, modify with your knees on the floor but try to keep your shoulder, hip and knee in proper alignment!!

I do a lot of body weight exercises and the two questions I get asked most are 1) Do you do CrossFit 2) Were you gymnast. The short answer to both is no. I’ve never attended a CrossFit class, currently not my style. I did take a beginners gymnastics course in college that taught me some basic form, stretching, and balance.

Most if not all of my functional workouts I picked up by watching and emulating other people. I actually stole the wall handstand push-ups from @teddington_01 and wanting to push myself further I modified them. I liked the strength part but I really wanted to learn how to balance. I see amazing gymnasts, acrobats, and aerialists that are far more talented than I could ever be, pushing themselves further then I can comprehend, and it makes me want to push myself as far as I can go. Currently I’m able to balance and do a few good presses on a good day.

Body weight exercises also help me not overdo it, which seems counterintuitive. Sometimes on a heavy lift day I start loading up weight and suddenly I’m in over my head with enthusiasm and unrealistic expectations, which usually results in injury. By consistently doing functional exercises I have established my limitations, and I push myself to change the speed, or increase the reps. The fear of falling on my head also stops me from pushing to the point of injury. I did have one overzealous occasion when I held my breath so hard pushing, upside down, I got petechiae all over my face from the pressure. Lesson learned: breath.

I can’t say enough about how much these help my core and stabilizer muscles. In order for me to consistently push my own weight up in varying exercises I have to keep my body conditioned, and doing exercises is in itself a great way to stay conditioned.

Am I a pro? Am I great at these? No. But I enjoy it. The lesson for me has been to keep trying new things. I’ve been lifting for years and it can get tedious at times. For me adding new and innovative maneuvers and exercises keeps going to the gym interesting.

For example, adventuring in the hills is part of my self care. My self care is my first boundry. And it is an immovable, fixed point. There can be times where it overwhelms other priorities and I need a gentle reminder to climb down off the mountain and spend time with loved ones. Which is something that I also really enjoy! This pendulum swings in a delicate balance between selfishness, and self care. -

I feel that boundaries with loved ones are especially necessary in maintaining strong and healthy relationships. Those lines are bound to shift and change over time... which! May require reestablishing.

That said, I believe it is perfectly acceptable to push the boundaries! And in turn to to be pushed. Those long and late night conversations where you push and pull ideas in a healthy way, can grow relationships into deeper and more meaningful understandings. -

However, there is a point where you can push/pull the boundary too far. And for me, that uncomfortable persistence, is the point where it permanently damages relationships. I'm more often the person to let a friend spout their beliefs and ideas without much input. Maybe a nod or a polite "that's an interesting point of view." I do this is more in fear of damaging relationships, and less about insisting my idea is best.

I respect myself first and I value my self care over any relationship. I have no qualms drawing a hard line, even in my best, and most intimate relationships. Without boundaries, I believe you can invite toxic and unhealthy relationships into your life.

Seeing how far they have come in a few short months is nothing short of amazing. They move well and push themselves hard-far beyond what is “comfortable”. Get comfortable with being uncomfortable if you want to see change. .

I am so proud of them and so lucky I get to coach them every Monday and Wednesday morning. .

For the month of December I decided to give them a fitness challenge and they chose 50 push-ups a day, every day, for the month. I am doing it with them. If I’m going to hold them accountable I need to do the same. After class one girl told me she’s taking the challenge even further by shooting to get 50 unbroken push-ups by the end of the month. Love it! 💪🏻 ✨

Restless, I decided to scroll thru my album to see how my fitness journey has changed me.
Not an obvious difference but I think the arms are toner, tummy slightly flatter and my thighs are definitely less rounded and more defined.

Photo #6 to #10: Scrolling thru the albums made me see how much I had changed. Heng is become prettier man! Braces is also the best decision I made in my life coz it literally “unswell” my face! That photo on Prom Night after graduation, I probably thought I was the prettiest woman in the entire ballroom being such a grownup and stepping into the world of adults. 🤦🏻‍♀️

It’s nice to look back once in a while and see how far you have come along and what you have achieved, be it physically, mentally or emotionally.
I am happy to be me now.

Push through the suck, push through the discouragement of inconsistency, push through the endless insufficient sketches and paintings. And then you make something nice. For years, Bethany followed many programs with push-ups built into the workouts. She always modified them on her knees, but never felt like she was getting any closer to nailing push-ups on her toes. #frustrating

In order to do that work, we’ve also gotta maintain enthusiasm and heat around practice. Balancing that with our own self-satisfaction is hard— how are we to want to improve while also feeling like we’re golden just as we are?

By identifying the kind of satisfaction and the kind of work that makes us feel more and more free. The kind that doesn’t make us suffer more. The kind that helps feel satisfied and enthusiastic not just in practice but in our life.

In DC, a lot of folks take a push-hard get-results mentality to their work and their personal lives. They’re so miserable and don’t know why. They don’t want to be. So they push harder in all the ways— including on their mat. Maybe it’s not just dc.

What’s sort of funny/poignant/ironic to me is that the place in which folks could stand to push extra hard is that whole “being kind to yourself” angle. Laying off from pushing so damn hard is actually way harder than literally pushing hard— and it builds a ton more heat and breeds a ton more joy, contentment, and cleanliness of mindstates.

But doing the less “hard” thing (even when it brings them all the deep goods folks want way down inside) is so impossible that people push-push-push until they break. And then they wear their wounds as though they were honorifics on a sash. What if we could bring that same intensity to our self-compassion?

By default, this causes the shoulder to start rotating internally which is the most unsafe position for the shoulder joint to be in, especially when you start increasing the load by pushing up and down against gravity. Think about it. You’re basically mimicking #shoulderimpingement because the head of the humerus bone could be jamming into the front of the shoulder socket instead of rotating its way into a more stable position. (No wonder your guys’ necks hurt all the time) 😿

Also, on a greater note, ask yourself WHY you are even doing the exercise you’re doing. Seriously, what’s the point? What purpose does it serve for YOUR body? If you have a tendency to internally rotate your shoulders all day every day from hunching over a computer or steering wheel and therefore have tight minor pecs and a tight neck (most people), why would you want to mimic that same bad habit when you workout? 🤷🏻‍♀️ Isn’t the whole point of working out to figure out which muscles in your body are lazy and wake those ones up, not to keep using the same dominant muscles that are already tight and overworked from daily life.. 🤦🏻‍♀️ In this picture my hands are slightly forward of my shoulders. In a perfect world, my hands would be next to my shoulders (more advanced). Bringing your hands forward of the elbows is a good way to modify to get the scapular in a stable position, which is the priority! Other ways to modify would be coming down to the knees or not bending the elbows quite as far down in the push up. Eventually, you can start challenging yourself by bringing your hands closer and getting lower in the push up. But, as I always try to emphasize, don’t compromise form just to get a bigger range of motion. #workdeepernotbigger #worksmarternotharder #trainertiptuesday

I remember when gaining admission into the universities was a problem. I had a friend that was lucky to gain admission before me.

Whenever I went to visit him, his mother would say he was not at home. My friend started giving me attitudes. He stopped coming to my house. When I asked him what the problem was, he opened up and told me his mother had warned him to stop associating with me because I might not be happy he gained admission, while I was still at home. Ah, I cried. Honestly I was pained.

Fast forward 5 years later, I have gained admission, and even graduated. My friend was still in the university. It was a 5 years course but he changed department and ended up spending 6 years.

His mother saw me in the neighbourhood shortly after graduation and asked if I was on holiday. Holiday ke? Mummy, I have graduated. You can imagine the look on her face. Lol. I graduated with 2nd class upper, a year later he graduated with 3rd class.

Some of us are guilty of this: ✔️ When we have our houses filled with kids.... Our loyal friends struggling to have kids become our enemies.
We push them away, for fear they might be jealous and unhappy. ✔️ Once we get married...
Our loyal single friends become enemies,
We push them away. ✔️ Once we get employed,
Our loyal jobless friends become enemies.
We push them away. ✔️ Once we get to the top...
Our loyal friends at the bottom become enemies
We push them away. ✔️ When we are happily married...
Our loyal friends that are unfortunately divorcees become our enemies,

Our loyal friends struggling to survive become our enemies,

I started Nina’s Kitchen from my flat in Northampton delivering £5 food boxes to North West London and those of you who even bought from me then, that I see come to the shop now...I’m so thankful for you!

I threw myself wholeheartedly into this thing. No one really saw me because I worked so hard. I didn’t have a plan but God created the path and I’ve just flowed with it and as much as it hasn’t been easy, I ask myself everyday how bad do you really want it?

That’s been my line for years and ORDINARY in any way shape or form is not for me, so you have to make a decision that through alllllllllllll the trials and tribulations, I’m going to change my life. I’m going to change my kids lives, I’m going to change my parents lives.

Push through the tiredness, push through the tears. Push through the bills piling up. Push through the rent arrears. Push through the childcare issues. Push through it ALL. Find YOUR reasons and put that work in.

Seems pretty simple but this is killer!💪🏻Do this for 4 sets after you finish killing chest and I guarantee your pump will be crazy and you will be DONE!

One of the key concepts of guard passing is that the legs and the head can't be on the same side. It is a concept that can be used for the passer and an even more valuable concept for the guard player. If someone tries to pass your guard, you need to push his head towards the direction of the pass, and your opponent will not be able to pass. Another conclusion from this concept is that if your opponent's head is facing one way, you'll know the direction of his pass.
One of the basic and most important ways to block the Toreando pass is to sit up, move your hip to the opposite direction of the pass (to get the proper angle for the push) and push his face towards the pass.
It is a bit counter-intuitive because your opponent "offers" you one cheek, but if you push it it won't stop the pass. You need to push his face in the other direction he is facing while passing.
Learn this, and it will help you in ALL of the guard passes.

In this video, the passer counters the face push with a simple change in the direction of the pass. We learned that if my head is facing one side, the pass needs to be from the other side.
When your opponent counters your Toreando pass with a face push, he "propels" the pass in the other direction.

As the IV push vs IV infusion (drip) method is fast, clients don’t need to take more than 15 minutes out from their daily schedule to undergo an IV push injection.
IV push injections are safer than IV drips. If a rare adverse reaction was to occur, the practitioner controlling the injection is able to detect untoward effects immediately and respond accordingly.
Since the needle and tubing remain attached to the vein for a short duration, the chances of infections after IV push injections are minimal.

روتو زیاد نکن!

نمیشه گفت "روت رو زیاد نکن" معادل دقیقی برای Don't push it محسوب میشه اما تقریبا کاربردشون مثل هم هست. برای درک بهتر اینو بدونید که منظور از Push it همون Push your luck هست. یعنی هی ادامه میدین یا کش میدین (Push) تا ببینید شانس (Luck – it) تا کجا باهاتون یار هست!

برای مثال شما از پدرتون درخواست پول می‌کنید. پدرتون موافقت می‌کنه. اما شما طمع می‌کنید و در ادامه ازش درخواست سوئیچ ماشین رو هم می‌کنید! و پدرتون میگه:
Don't push it!
یعنی "طمع نکن!" یا "روت رو زیاد نکن!" یا "روت می‌خندم پر رو نشو"

پس:
You're pushing it = you're starting to ask for too much = You're taking advantage of my kindness

به مثال زیر توجه کنید:

This year is a very big milestone. It is year 5 for the PUSH Conference! I never in a million years dreamed we would be here. I am so very grateful you all have brought us to this point. Aktuell mach ich ein 3er Split Push Pull Beine. Im Fokus ganz klar die Schwachstellen, sprich die Push Tage 😋 d.h 3x die Woche Push, 1x Pull und 1x mal Beine. Die Push Tage wechseln zwischen schwer, mittel und leichter Intensität 💪 in der Woche sieht das dann meistens so aus ▶️ Push A, Pull, Push B, Beine, Push C, Pause, Pause 🙏 die 2 Pause Tage eignen sich perfekt um vor dem schweren Push Tag zu regenerieren ☺️ ich denke ich kann damit gut die Schwachstellen Brust und Schulter ausbauen und die Kraftwerte im Bankdrücken und Schulterdrücken steigen 👌📈 das ganze werde ich bis Februar durchziehen und dann gehts ab in die Diät für das Wettkampfjahr 2019 💪 .. achja Bauch trainiere ich nach jedem Training 👍

Being completely honest can be painful sometimes... being completely honest can be hard... being completely can help success!
Over the past week i had been feeling like something was just OFF with my prep... I knew deep down what it was, but I didn’t want to admit it... this prep has been feeling off because A) I’ve been letting fear keep me from my full potential and B) I used that fear as an excuse to slack off a little
How did I finally come to admit what was off? I took a moment to slow down and just be with myself... and asked myself what’s holding you back? And I thought about it... I dug deep... and I realized I’M SCARED! I’ve been scared of being too strict with myself in the gym or with my macros... I was worried that being strict would lead me back into my ways of my eating disorder... but after a long chat with myself and a lot of prayer... and with all the support of my friends and family, I’ve decided to push myself... push beyond what I’ve thought was possible for myself! I realized I was tip toeing around my past... but why??? I’m not this delicate little thing... I’m a strong, powerful, capable woman!! So, for the next 8-12 weeks I will be sticking to my macros 100% no ands ifs or buts about it! I reached out to coach and asked to get back into a workout routine that would push me! So now my workout will be getting back to where they need to be! I’m ready to push! I’m ready to fight! It’s like I’ve begun prep all over again and today is day 1... I’m eager! Let’s do this!
Currently sitting at 124’s lbs 1st show aiming for around 110-114; last show aiming for 105-110! Let’s do this!
