She has retired from the Library of Congress with more than 20 years of exemplary service. Mantalene currently owns and operates a fashion-forward boutique in Maryland called Sister to Sister Boutique. She's a Renaissance woman and a Stone Cold Diva y'all!

Ms. Hemphill is a mother of 5 remarkable children, one of whom happens to be the celebrated poet and activist Essex Hemphill whose work is currently on display at The National Museum of African American History and Culture.

According to my mother, Aunt Manta has ALWAYS been an entrepreneur. She tells the story that when they were little and their grandfather would give them candy, Manta would always take her portion and stash some of it. She'd then use the yummy bits to incentivize, or should I say flat out bribe her siblings to do the chores she hated! Of course that left plenty of time for Manta to do the things she truly enjoyed. BRILLIANT!

Mantalene Hemphill is a wonderful grandmother and great grandmother who shares her Love of God's goodness everywhere she goes.
Blessings Auntie...we Love you and we salute YOU! 💜

When I first met @iamrozan, there was something that drew me to her, without understanding what it was at the time. Of course she’s outwardly fabulous in every way! But there was something else.
Her catalogue of achievements are truly awe-inspiring and everything she accomplishes is to the benefit of the youth, women and communities she believes make up her DNA: London (of course), Arabia and most importantly Africa. To list just a few of Rozan’s applaudable accomplishments:
She was the youngest appointed music & fashion editor in British publishing whilst being one of the first editorial shapers, cultivator and pioneer of the UK ‘grime’ genre.
Rozan is recognised by the United Nations, Government of Sudan and South Sudan for ‘orchestrating the country’s first-ever celebratory peace concert’. She’s also the woman behind @Africanism (yes she made that a word!), a powerful platform  that ‘redefines the continent’s artistic authority and style declaration – at home and abroad’. Rozan’s most recent endeavor, @TheMagicDrive – focuses on sustainable luxury/tourism and education to ignite the creative potential of orphans and other children in crisis in Kenya and beyond.
Throughout the Middle East, Rozan continues to shape and inspire a new breed of business in culture and design. One of her most recent achievements includes her role in introducing #SaudiArabia’s first female super hero, Latifa, as well as inspiring other super heroes via Black Panther to enter the Kingdom and end its ban on cinema! – Inspiring is actually an understatement!
Rozan describes her transformational journey from belonging nowhere as an African British Arabic-speaking Muslim, to knowing that actually, she and her multi-identities belong everywhere.
Biankha and friends are inspired and motivated by Rozan’s vision and amazing journey so far.  She plays a pivotal role in shaping what she calls an ‘African renaissance’ and continues to stylishly change minds everywhere she goes!

Coinciding with Bahraini Women’s Day festivities, the Bahrain Authority for Culture and Antiquities celebrates Manama Capital of Arab Women 2017 through a cultural program that features an art exhibition showcasing works by select female artists and a fashion show which highlights the various traditional female garments of Arab women throughout history.
The exhibition was held on Wednesday December 6, 2017 with the presence of Sheikha Hala bint Mohammed Al Khalifa, Director of Culture and Arts, and a number of diplomatic figures and those interested in cultural and artistic affairs in addition to a group of media professionals. Marveling over "Indio Cuauhtémoc (The World Stage: Brazil🇧🇷)"⠀
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
💚💛🌎⠀
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
"@kehindewiley paints young men and women of the African diaspora in majestic poses based on the glorified portraits of the European Renaissance and Enlightenment eras. 'The World Stage' series expands the artist's view across the globe. For his Brazil paintings, Wiley began with the nationalistic monuments that stand in city streets and parks. He then selected Afro-Brazilian men from favelas, the poorest neighborhoods in Brazil's cities, to stand in these aggrandized roles. Wiley depicts them in their everyday clothing amidst abundant floral backdrops. His artistic choices draw attention to the troubling history of colonialism, the pervasiveness of American culture and fashion, and the ways we fetishize and desire 'the tropical.' The man in this painting poses like the statue of Cuauhtémoc, sited in Rio de Janeiro. Cuauhtémoc was the last Aztec emperor who ruled Tenochtitlán from 1520-1521 before being executed by the Spanish. The government of Mexico gave the sculpture to Brazil in 1922 to recognize the 100th anniversary of Brazilian independence from Portugal."⠀

Well, did you know it was designed by a young black woman and made by women in Africa who are earning fair wages for their labor? Well, that designer is @aurorajames of @brothervellies and she’s up for a @voguemagazine #CFDA award. Unfortunately, it isn’t often enough that we have an opportunity to celebrate a fashion brand led by a woman of color, employing women of color. But tomorrow night, we get our chance to toast to a designer who epitomizes what it means to “do it for the culture.” Against the odds, Aurora has built a sustainable, socially-conscious fashion business that empowers women across the African diaspora and consistently celebrates the elegance of African culture in spaces it’s rarely seen—from the steps of the Met Gala to the pages of Vogue.
In the wake of Wakanda, it’s so great to see ourselves and our culture celebrated in refreshing new ways, but it’s important that we acknowledge those who have been doing this work before it was “in fashion.” Through her work in communitues across Africa, Aurora is paving a legacy that will outlast any trend.
Please join me in supporting her (maybe get yourself one of these berets I can’t stop wearing? 👩🏽‍🎨) and if you happen to be a CFDA Guild Member, you can vote for her via the link in my bio. May 31 is the last day to vote!! 🖤you and so proud of you, Aurora! #teamaurora (P.S. Because so many of you are asking, the earrings are by another amazing female designer @jenniferfisherjewelry 💫.) 📷 @nytimes

It is now commonplace to see the Ankara, Bogolun, Kente and several other fashion fabrics of African origin won by women, men, and especially the youth unlike a decade ago when it was a bit of a challenge to accept it wholly as a fitting design for any occasion. What’s intriguing about these designs is that they are either symbolic or totem, expressing personal or cultural sentiments in one way or the other.
Just about a decade ago in West Africa for instance, women commonly wore Kaba (wax print) and Agbada, was a common sight in Ghana, Togo, and Nigeria whereas men and the youth mainly dwelt preferred bespoke western clothes. Today the story is different. Almost everyone puts on African clothes for occasions such as engagements, wedding ceremonies, funerals, church services and more interestingly for normal outings too. This is happening to the extent that it is fast becoming a trend and a measure of how creative or colorful one’s outfit looks compared to others. The creative burst has led tailors, seamstresses or designers to sometimes embed wax and Kent fabrics in western T-shirts which in turn is patronized by the youth more as a streetwear, often endearing it to tourists as well READ more on our blog.

Location: near #Paris, #France
Date: 7pm-10pm Tonight, Friday, November 23rd
1pm-10pm Tomorrow, Saturday, November 24th
Price: 10 euros at the door.

It means a lot for men & women in this industry of entertainment, business, & fashion to support each other in our craft. Men in support of women, & women in support of each other as well. I have observed that the knowledge, input, skill, & patronage of women is half of the dynamic of everything that I consider great in any endeavour that I have been a part of in my industry. Over the course of the past 4 years that I have been touring throughout Europe, Laetitia Ngoto (@DarajaConcept) has not only been a great confidante in my love for #fashion & all things that bring together the African diaspora in Paris, she has also long been the founder &bleader of her vehicle of contemporary African cultural events, which she has dubbed #AfroUrbanExperience, via her organization & event series #ArtPressYourself. +

This year's theme is a celebration of Nigerian pop culture through the lens of #Afrobeat, the politics & music of #FelaKuti, contemporary Nigerian music, Food, Dance, & Art; there will also be a market for purchasing items such as a clothing, art, & talks over the course of 2 days on tonight, Friday, November 23rd, & tomorrow, Saturday, November 24th. This year's event is called, #FELAFRICA. What I have always loved about this organization & its events are its focus on uniting both the Francophone & Anglophone African diasporas w/in France.
I invite all of my friends in the Paris area to attend on today and tomorrow. There is no amount of distance that can get in the way of genuine support & friendship.
Sincerely,
Mr. Reed

For this look, I wanted her to embody high society African women who dress beautifully and exude royalty. She is coming back to visit the poor villages in which she was raised. She is walking thru the streets, eating meals with her kin, visiting memories of her childhood, reminding herself of her humble beginnings. She wears distinctly traditional Ankara prints that pay tribute to her own culture, but mixed with expensive accessories to inspire the youth who dream of one day owning her exact handbag. The white keeps her cool in the hot sun as she strolls from home to home, visiting elders and cooing with babies, and the sunglasses shield her tears. #StyledbyCMB .
