Yesterday, I slipped down the steps and felt my foot bend beneath me. I experienced pain that I cannot even begin to describe. I managed to dislocate my ankle and break three bones (the tibula, fibula, and talus -- for my medical friends.) Tomorrow morning, I'll have surgery to have screws and a metal plate implanted, followed by 6-8 weeks on crutches and another 6 in a boot. I don't know if I've ever asked for a prayers online, but I would love for you all to keep me in yours.

A lot of times we take things for granted. For example, I took walking and running for granted. REWIND 2yrs ago I tore the ligaments on both sides of my left ankle while playing in a basketball tournament. This guy went under me while I was in the air and I came down on his foot. I had to get surgery and the doc put 20 liquid stitches inside my ankle on both sides and sealed the wound with about 15 staples on each side. I wasn’t able to walk for about 6 months. Once the staples came out I had to learn how to walk again, jog and run. The entire process was crazy. I wasn’t able to do the two things I love. Play basketball and most importantly, PHOTOGRAPHY. Sitting home binging everything on Netflix and stuffing my face with all type of junk food. I became complacent and was turning into someone I didn’t recognize. So now being able to work out feels great. Today I ended my work out with 10 sets of suicides and a couple free throws. #TrustTheProcess #ConsistencyIsKey #theloftatl #cardiobykyle

1.5 years post-peroneal tendon repair surgery, we have been working with this client in increasing ankle stability and proprioception through various compound and dynamic exercises. By addressing the body as a kinetic chain, strengthening the glutes, core, and foot muscles will benefit his late-stage rehabilitation progress. The goal is returning this active-individual back into running and sports with no discomfort/pain 🏃🏻 Who says rehab can't be fun!
--
Here we utilized the Keiser functional trainer which uses pneumatic (air) resistance allowing for smoother movements and reducing shock loading to connective tissues and joints. The fluidity of air resistance allows for effective sports-specific movements in various tempo and planes of motion, as it is widely used by professional athletes and the military.

I did this impromptu for fun so my dad could watch me run. Everything was going well despite the 9deg real feel. But after running on gravel and uneven brick, pain just went through the roof in my left foot. I remember almost spraining my ankle, but I caught myself. Maybe that's when it happened!?!? (Check my stories if ur wondering what my foot looks like 😊). I almost quit when I hit mile 4. Probably should have...
But I didn't. I wanted everything to be perfect, of course. But things never are. So although I was slower and in pain, it meant so much to see my dad cheering. U see he's been a runner for all his life. He can't run right now because he had to have open heart surgery. It was very unexpected. So I ran for him. And THAT was perfect. 😏
*
*
Side note... Being a runner isn't enough to keep you healthy. My dad ran almost every day of his life minus 1-2 days a week. Diet plays such a huge roll & he has a sweet tooth. I've seen a lot of no sugar challenges out there right now on Instagram. I think that is such a great thing. Sugar is a main cause of inflammation. All you hear about is fat is bad, don't eat eggs, etc. Sugar somehow gets lost. We need to avoid foods that cause our bodies to create cholesterol, and sugar is the most powerful one!!! I'm not talking about whole fruits. It's the refined sugars, white flour foods (pasta, bagels, white bread, cakes, etc) things that quickly turn to sugar in our bodies. So all you taking that challenge keep at it! We want to run for a lifetime and that means a healthy heart!

A short read if ur interested. https://blogs.webmd.com/heart-disease/2017/07/how-sugar-really-affects-your-cholesterol.html

Big thanks to

🤣Sounds like an old school report of mine, haha... Really enjoyed this morning session. Things I need to work on are my ankle mobility and my ego...
_
👋🏼I’m not looking for any form of sympathy but had surgery just over a year ago on my foot and on my return from skiing my foot has seized up to the point it’s sometimes numb in the morning. There is a blockage somewhere which results my dorsiflexion being pants therefore I cant sit into my squat as I normally would.
_
👋🏼 Oh hello lifting ego - I have got to figure you out. Think I get excited and consequently stuck between confidence and stupidity. I whacked on 135kgs for my last set of four. This resulted in pretty poor quality squats for my final set. I should have gone to 125 and chilled. Ultimately it’s a learning experience, I’m not hurt & i was left with some gas in the tank for the rest of the session which looked like this:

Half way through the semester I had to fly back home to Colorado to have surgery and 3 months of non weight bearing recovery. I found that I took walking for granted more that I should have. It’s humbling to have to get everywhere on crutches and have your friends carry your stuff and open doors for you. Couldn’t drive for a while and couldn’t really do anything or go anywhere. I’m almost to the 6 month mark and it’s pretty close to being back to normal. It’s been a humbling experience but it’s showed me that our bodies are fragile and accidents happen when you lest expect them. I’ve been skateboarding for almost 5 years now and I’m not going to let this stop me. •

She put in a referral for physical therapy, but they can’t squeeze me in until the end of the month, dangit. Trying to flex ‘em a bit by hand in the meantime. Getting in some quality hammock time on this lovely Friday afternoon before everything speeds back up — my next surgery has been scheduled for 7:30 Monday morning, and reconstruction will finally begin. ⚡️ We’re sliding in on the tail end of the viable skin and muscle window, but after the infection and fracture blisters delayed healing for week, we wanted to give my foot, ankle and leg the best shot at a complication-free recovery... We’re in it now. And whatever happens, I’m still committed to being the best version of myself that I can possibly be. Gonna catch up on some work stuff, finish a few projects around the house and then go into Monday morning stoked to be alive and determined to fight my way into whatever comes next. The last few weeks haven’t been easy on anyone involved, but the kindness from you all, the support from the amazing folks around me and the collective efforts of so many incredible doctors, nurses, specialists and medical experts has made what could have been a horrible nightmare into just another bump in the road. My surrogate Weist family here in NM have been absolute angels, and to have family that has my back no matter what has been soul-shaking. From hospital and prescription runs to doctors appointments, grocery shopping and showering my filthy ass and unpacking my truck, I’m beyond blessed to have @makk.dadddy, @jweist, @dwplato and Ray in my life... And I don’t know what I’d do without them. I love you guys. Thanks for hanging in there and having my back. ❤️ Onward and upward, y’all — this crazy life continues. ⚡️🦄🌈✨ #beepbeepmotherfucker #notdead

I’m sitting here in the surgery waiting room at UNM and would definitely rather be out in the wild, healthy and free, but I’m not wishing I was there — this is where I am. This is part of moving forward, and today is about progress. Today we’re finally putting plates and screws on the INSIDE of my frankenfootleg, and I get to lose the external fixator. I may end up with another one at some point, but right now the foot is gonna get a little straighter, the ankle is gonna get a little better and the leg is gonna get a little stronger. And that’s what recovery (and life) are about: little improvements. Nothing is accomplished in massive measures or grand gestures, but through the small, consistent things we do every day that add up into progress — whether it’s rehab on a mangled leg, dealing with grief, training for a race, building a business or working towards a goal, those little bits of progress and our outlook on those steps often shape the final result. We can suffer through it and whine and cry about our circumstance while drowning ourselves and those around us in misery, or we can look at it as an opportunity for growth. We can embrace the shittiness, grin into the storm and use everything that comes as fuel for the fire, as something that’s going to teach us about ourselves, about the world and about what we have inside of us. I’m choosing the latter, because this has already made me more compassionate, more capable of understanding the situations other people go through and the obstacles folks deal with on a daily basis, and it has expanded my perspective beyond what I ever expected. But these experiences SHAPE us. They build us, they break down walls inside and they make us better — and that’s something to celebrate. ⚡️⚡️⚡️ #notdead #beepbeepmotherfucker #fuckingextraordinary

I am now 9.5 months past surgery and feel incredible. But this #docjenchallenge is clearly showing that I have zero concentric control on that left side. NOTED! See how my right foot comes into assist and create some stability by anchoring at my posterior ankle? Such a good friend! But I’d rather my left leg learn some autonomy with its dynamic mobility, so time to make some new homework for lefty.

Oh an on a side note I’m wearing #jeanshorts in support of the American denim industry! I heard a news report this morning that #yogapants are overtaking #jeans as the number one bottom of choice in the USA. I have obviously contributed to the yoga pants domination of clothing and feel bad about it!!! I totally wear athletic clothes all the time but I love wearing jeans. Please don’t give up on us denim manufacturers. Maybe you can design more mobile friendly #lycrajeans so I can workout in them?

On the morning of May 6, 2018, while parked at the side of the road and in the process of putting bikes in the car, Dane Zamudio and Mark Cabe were side swept by a drunk driver. Both of them have sustained several serious injuries such as broken bones that require surgeries, multiple abrasions and lacerations. Dane sustained a broken upper arm, which required a plate to be placed, and several open wounds that needed stitches. We've just discovered that her ACL and PCL are both torn, and would require another surgery. Mark had his left foot and ankle broken. His big toe was an open fracture and they had to put metal in it to get the bone back in place, while his foot and ankle will require another surgery where they will put metal and screws to put them back together. After their surgeries and wounds heal, they will then require physical therapy to get better further.

We are still lucky that both have come out of this accident with their lives (broken bones and multiple wounds aside) and are on their way to recovery, but the medical costs are already staggering which is, unfortunately, beyond our families' capacity. Although we are hoping the drunk driver will be paying for all their medical needs and the repair of our car, we need to attend to their immediate needs first.

That is why we are here to appeal further to the love and support of our friends and family in the most trying time of our lives. This accident has not only affected our families and friends, but also our lives, forever.

Team Trimac, together with our friends from Aboitiz Tri, Fit Ph, RUN365PH, Secondwind Run Club and friends from the running and triathlon communtity have organized a benefit run for Mark and Dane. This event will also serve as our campaign against drunk driving. We hope you can come and support this running event. See you all on May 27!!

Brian Bogers begins rehabilitation 📸@shotbybavo

Team HRC’s Brian Bogers has officially started with the rehabilitation process after being forced to an eight-week stop following a second injury to the same right-foot bone he fractured in November 2017. Ten days ago, the cast keeping the lower leg, ankle and foot immobilised was removed; after an extensive check, Bogers received a very positive evaluation from the specialist who performed the foot surgery last May.

Bogers will now focus on regaining muscle mass in his right leg and get the full movement of the joints, in order to pave the road for a future return to action.

@brianbogers
Since the last surgery on 7th of May I had to wear a cast for eight weeks: it is now off, and the foot is feeling really good. I am pain-free and that’s the most important thing now! In five weeks I will have another check at the hospital and in the meantime, I’m working out to rebuild all the muscles in my right leg. If my muscles will be strong again by then, then I will try to ride the bike again; I have to be patient for a bit more time, but I can see the light at the end of the tunnel!

And having to learn how to walk 3 times withing 1.5 years. But after the 4-5 mile run in army ROTC at UAH my ankle was throbbing so much... I said I'm sorry but I have to respectfully decline. After multiple doctors, x-rays, a horribly boring MRI, lots of ice and plenty of tears of frustration I found out that I've essentially been functioning on a fractured ankle for the past three years, have some pretty old inflamed scar tissue, and a bunch of random displaced bone fragments crunching around my ankle due to torn ligaments ripping them loose. Surgery is going down come October. Will be on bed rest for a week after surgery, then 4 - 6 weeks keeping off the foot, and lots of PT to follow. Advice from those who've had arthroscopic surgery? Recovery time? How'd you keep moral high? **Also let this be somewhat of a lesson to go to the doctor if you hurt yourself. Don't keep being active and ignoring the problem. I'm an idiot and should have gotten this taken care of sooner.

I have been working very closely with @lynd521 for the past year and to say she has endured some adversity is an understatement. After just one week of working together, Lindsey happened to break her foot which lead to surgery and the routine course of PT. We worked through this injury, continuing to focus on her nutrition and doing what we could to stay physically active.

Fast forward a few months (November 2017) of prescribed PT and doctors appointments, Lindsey received the news that her foot hadn’t healed the way it was supposed to and the PT may have been too aggressive. She had taken multiple steps forward but in stride taken some backwards. This is when we decided personal training was necessary.

At the start of our PT, we broke everything down to the simplest degree; balance, stability, foot pressure, walking drills, core stabilization, and glute activation. Lindsey lacked external rotation at the hip, causing mild valgum of the knees and pronation of the feet. We performed simple movement patterns to correct and fix these issues while also being critical of her movement patterns. At this point, she was restricted from any type of weighted ankle flexion and our long term goal was for her to run again.

Fast forward another 5 months (April) and plenty of focused structural work, Lindsey was told by her podiatrist in a follow up appointment that her foot was looking much better from the previous appointment and she was cleared to run, skip, hop, etc. With this news we slowly added in simple running and foot stabilization drills through full ROM and set the goal to be able to run at the end of May for “Murph”.

This past Memorial Day, @lynd521 completed a scaled version of “Murph” with 100m runs and crushed our original goal of 10 rounds to complete 15. Now this was a year’s worth of hard work and focused attention the details. I’m so happy we were able to work together and accomplish this. Lindsey trusted the process and put in the work to no longer be limited by her injury. I can not wait to see what Lindsey will accomplish next!

Working a boulder deep in RMNP.. I took a good fall and broke my ankle.
Luckily, Dr. @deej_ums was able to tape up my ankle and make me a gnarly splint The thought of navigating myself through a talus field and then somehow hiking four miles back to the car... seem to be impossible. Luckily both @deej_ums Deejay and @hunterdamianiart had a kneepad for climbing. With both kneepads on, I crawled a couple hundred yards up and down boulders to make it to the tree line. Hopping on 1 foot with walking sticks through dense woods was too difficult, Deejay gave me a piggyback ride back to the main trail. Luckily we ran into a park ranger relatively quick, she called to have some crutches hiked up to me.
4 miles and over 6 hours later, I make it to the car.
I can definitely say.. walking 4 miles downhill on a rocky trail, on crutches... was by far the most difficult thing Iv ever done. My crutch leg is shot.. my hands and wrist are bruised.. damn crutches gave me armpit burns from rubbing so much... No work for a while... no climbing for a long time. I’m going to lose my damn mind.
Thank you @biographyofbree for carrying all my stuff that whole way
Thank you Deejay and Hunter for all the help and moral support. I apologize for cutting such an awesome day so short.

The Jaipur Foot, as it was known, was developed in India in 1970 by orthopedic surgeon Dr Pramod Karan Sethi and sculptor Ram Chandra. It was an appropriate, cheaper and aesthetic alternative to Western limb designs. It can be made in under an hour with basic household tools. The design has revolutionised the lives of thousands of amputees in the developing world.

I had to walk more than half of the 26.2 mile run in a boot... thankfully I was able to make it to the finish line with barely 18 minutes left before the cut off.
------------------------------------------------
January 20th, 2017: I went through a difficult surgery to correct the problem in my ankle and clean up all of the damage and scar tissue inside of my heel:
1) My Achilles' tendon had to be removed.
2) Part of the back of my heel bone had to be sawed off.
3) My heel bone had to be resurfaced and reshaped.
4) Remnants of my torn bursa sacs needed to be removed.
5) Scar tissue needed to be removed from my tendon.
6) My Achilles' tendon needed to be reattached with hooks called Anchors that slowly fused my tendon back to my newly shaped heel bone.
-----------------------------------------------
Ever since my surgery, I've had to go through 3 days a week of painful physical therapy, learn how to walk again, and overcome mental and physical battles and massive depression on a daily basis. Thanks to a very talented team of doctors and physical therapists along with an incredible family who has been helping me every step of the way, I have been able to ((very slowly and carefully)) start running, training, and racing again towards big goals on my horizon!!
----------------------------------------------
My 2017 goal is to make this year my "Comeback Year." My goal is to lose as much of the 40 pounds ((yes 40)) that I gained while recovering, and to build the strength up in my ankle back from 0 so I can be strong enough to avenge my slow finish in Lake Placid last year by successfully completing IRONMAN 70.3 Atlantic City in 13 days followed by IRONMAN Arizona this November!! It's been a very challenging and difficult road to recovery over the last 8 and a half months so far because I still feel pain on a daily basis, but as long as I stay focused and determined, I will be able to reach my goal and come back even stronger!!

UPDATE: Many of you have asked for an update since my last foot post and since I’ve been off of social media for chunks (sorry @alexajohansen) of time, I haven’t been able to share. So this last week the doctor released me from his care! 🙌🏽 I’ve healed enough but I’ve still got some healing to go. I start physical therapy in two weeks! As I went through security at the airport, it took extra time since I am walking slower but also because I have an ankle brace I have to wear for the next few weeks at least. My ankle got patted down. But I can wear tennis shoes only, trust me I asked about my Sperrys and Converse lol! I also can still wear my orthopedic shoe (known as my shandel) when my left foot wants to be normal or I feel like going out. It’s crazy to think a fall has had me on this five month crazy recovery journey! Through it all God has been so faithful, taught and showed me so much! As I’m finally using PTO not for surgery, I am excited for the next few days off of work exploring a new state and city and for time with @blondestoryshort and her cute lil fam! Thank you to all those who have journeyed with me thus far, the prayers, support, rides, and care and concern have opened my eyes to the value of community! I am blessed despite my circumstances and feel as though I’m continually thriving.

I can't find the words , I still feel like I am just in the nightmare and will wake up with having everything fine ! But unfortunately it is not a nightmare ! Due the second moto at the MXGP of Russia I have touched the ground by my left foot ! I still tried to finish the moto , but I felt like my stability in the knee is completely gone and I was forced to pull out from the moto! I have done a few scans in Moscow and didn't get any good results !
-torn ACL - both meniscus snapped - broken talus in the ankle
I'll need to do the surgery on my knee and fix all the things , but due the talus problem , it looks like I'll need to wait a little , before the doctor can make my knee !
It's a massive bummer for me as I just started to get myself consistently up front with the top guys after a long recovery from a massive shoulder injury and now out of racing again! I know ,it is also a frustration for all my team , Yamaha and all the sponsors , but I feel a massive support from them and from all of you guys , who is there , watching and supporting me ! Thank you very much for this !
It is mentally tough for me to be out again , but I have a strength to get myself 100% recovered and back! And then we will see what future will bring ! I am still #TheBeastFromTheEast 💪🏽🇷🇺👍🏽 I'll try to stay connected and inform you guys about my recovery process! #VB18 #OnTheWayBack / @kemea_yamaha @yamaharacingcomofficial @monsterenergy @formaboots @just1racing @airohelmets @officialmooseracing

--

God bless @kttape! After 10 years of walking poorly, favoring an old ankle injury that surgery didn’t quite fix, I’m so glad to be walking without pain! Next test is seeing how it holds up on an actual hike. If I can push off on my foot uphill without pain, I will be tempted to buy stock in their company 😂😂
