I woke up thinking about our ancestors and the march of death they were forced to take in 1915. I was thinking about how because that wound is so deep, we never have stopped marching since. We have come a long way. Those skeletons have turned into living, thriving families and large communities all around the world who still carry the love of our people so strongly in our hearts. We march every April 24th as a symbol of the walk we walk every day, as Armenians, as the people who survived the unthinkable, the people who should have never been, and the people who’s pain, and suffering turned to strength and unity.

Thomas Woodrow Wilson born on December 28, 1856 was an American statesman and academic who served as the 28th President of the United States from 1913 to 1921. Mr Wilson is credited for the border configuration of the First Republic of Armenia in the Treaty of Sevres, which is known as 'Wilsonian Armenia'. In a speech to congress President Wilson declared 14 points which would lead to the only possible basis of enduring peace in the world; one of which was related to the Armenians, it stated;

XII. The Turkish portion of the present Ottoman Empire should be assured a secure sovereignty, but the other nationalities which are now under Turkish rule should be assured an undoubted security of life and an absolutely unmolested opportunity of autonomous development, and the Dardanelles should be permanently opened as a free passage to the ships and commerce of all nations under international guarantees.

I feel incredibly lucky to have been in Armenia during this time to witness such a historic event. I want to congratulate Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan / Նիկոլ Փաշինյան. I was eagerly following his every step in the process and was thinking what a brilliant leader to have created such leadership amongst the people. Which is why even while he was detained, the protests continued in the same organized and peaceful manner. He had a promising strategy, and its foundation was peace, love, respect, knowledge, solidarity, and transparency. I also commend the brave, independent journalists in Armenia who challenged the narrative of the state-run media, often under extremely dangerous circumstances. They played a huge role in the success of this revolution. For the democracy to prevail, we need fair, smart, independent journalism, and they gave us just that. Because of their courage, the citizens and the rest of the world were aware of the truth and felt empowered to act, peacefully. The Armenian people have had a tragic history and many disappointments so I really wished that their resilience would have a positive outcome this time around for the soul of the nation, especially in removing feelings of hopelessness and victimhood. We proved to ourselves that we are not impulsive; rather, we are forward thinking and this victory is now imprinted in our DNA. We will use this same positive strategy in all of our future endeavors to flourish as a nation. This isn’t just a political revolution, it’s a cultural one. This is epic not just for Armenians but for all of the world. This is one more step toward world peace.
Now the real work begins, and we have all of the motivation and inspiration we need. 🇦🇲💪

ON JUNE 15, 2015, AT THE AGE OF 98 KIRK KERKORIAN PAST AWAY LEAVING BEHIND A LEGACY SO LEGENDARY AND SO UNFORGETTABLE NO MAN CAN COMPARE TO.

HE WAS A MOTIVATION TO ALL OF US. THE MAN IS HANDS DOWN, THE MOST WISEST, THE MOST INTUITIVE, THE MOST SUCCESSFUL ARMENIAN THAT HAD EVER LIVED, AND THAT'S LITERALLY AN UNDER STATEMENT.
HE WAS A ONE OF A KIND PHILANTHROPIST WHO'S LIFE STORY IS A SHEER INSPIRATION NOT ONLY TO ARMENIANS, BUT TO MAN KIND IN GENERAL.
ON A WORLD WIDE SCALE THIS MAN IS A ENTREPRENEURIAL LEGEND. HE ACCOMPLISHED THE MOST IMPOSSIBLE OF DREAMS AND THE MOST UNREALISTIC OF GOALS ONE CAN THINK OF.
HE REACHED HEIGHTS OF SUCCESS THAT IS NOT MEANT TO BE IN THE GRASPS OF THE HUMAN CAPABILITIES.

THAT IS WHY TO ME PERSONALLY, HE WAS LESS THAN GOD, BUT DEFINITELY A BIT MORE THAN HUMAN. HE WAS THE MODERN DAY SAINT IN THE FLESH.

I CAN GO ON AND ON NONSTOP ALL DAY TO DESCRIBE HOW UNIQUE AND YET SO EXQUISITE OF A LIFE HE HAD CONSIDERING THE AMOUNTS OF OBSTACLES AND THE CHALLENGES THAT HE HURDLED PAST ONE AFTER ANOTHER.
IN THE HIGHEST LEVEL OF THE BUSINESS WORLD AMONG INVESTORS AND ENTREPRENEURS WORLDWIDE, THE MAN WAS CONSIDERED AN ACTUAL WIZARD.
THROUGHOUT HIS ENTIRE LIFE, HIS LASER PRECISION BUSINESS DECISIONS WOULD NEVER FALL SHORT OF PERFECTION, AND EVENTUALLY, STEP BY STEP, HE MANAGED TO BUILD ONE OF THE WORLDS MOST WEALTHIEST AND MOST POWERFUL DYNASTIES IN HISTORY.
HIS EMPIRE REIGNED FOR DECADES, GROWING TO BECOME A SILENT RULER CONTROLLING THE MOST RICHEST CITY IN OUR MODERN DAY PLANET. "LAS VEGAS"

HE WAS AND WILL ALWAYS BE A PRIDE AND JOY TO EVERY SINGLE ARMENIAN THAT EVER LIVED.
THIS MAN'S NAME ALONE, SINGLE HANDED GAVE THE ARMENIAN HERITAGE AND HISTORY AN ENTIRE CHAPTER OF ITS OWN.
HE IS THE MODEL EXAMPLE OF WHAT ALPHA MALE SHOULD BE, HE IS A SHEER TESTAMENT TO THE POTENTIAL GREATNESS AND SUPERIORITY OUR PEOPLE POSSESS.
BUT TO TOP IT ALL OFF, HE HAS THE KINDEST MOST LOVE FILLED OF HEARTS, FULL OF COMPASSION AND CARE.
GOD BLESS HIS SOUL, AND HEAL HIS LOVED ONES IN THIS TIME OF MOURNING. MAY HE REST IN PEACE AND TRANQUILITY.

This is the reason why I am and will always be PRO-gun. If you know me you’ve probably heard me speak of my heritage. Pictured here are my ancestors. No, not the Ottomans standing above everybody, but the dead Armenians in the mass grave and their friends and loved ones being forced to stack the bodies. In 1915 the Ottoman Empire (which we now know today as Turkey) began the attempted extermination of the Armenian people. They would kill fathers and sons in front of their families, rape and crucify the girls in front of the mother, and then kill the mother. This became possible when they started confiscating weapons from them. Sabers, axes, rifles, handguns, bread knives, pretty much anything that the regime police could get their hands on and brand as a “weapon”, so that they could carry out their plans without conflict and without insurgency. Almost exactly similar to the way that the SS Gestapo confiscated weapons from the Jews on Kristallnacht, or “the night of broken glass”. Keep in mind that in this time period, what we now label as “assault weapons” DID NOT EXIST YET! Yes, machine guns were owned by the military, but very few civilians had them because of their impractical size and weight of the era, and the fact that they needed 2 or more people to be operated.
An estimated 1.5 million Armenians were killed from 1915-1917. My great grandmother was one of few Armenian women who made it to America and escaped the evil grasp of the Ottoman Turks. This is why I refuse to be disarmed and why I do not support a firearms ban of ANY kind
I refuse to wind up like many of my ancestors did.

Good morning everyone! This is Emanuele Amighetti (@emanueleamighetti) taking over from Milan, Italy.
Unrecognized Nation, Forgotten War investigates the sense of confusion that teenagers at war must feel. It focuses on the young Artsakh citizens who are forced to become soldiers.
The war between Armenia and Azerbaijan in Nagorno-Karabakh has been a long one. The troubles started in 1988, escalating into a full-scale war when the Soviet Union collapsed in 1991. It left 65,000 ethnic Armenians and 40,000 ethnic Azeris displaced. The official ceasefire is regularly broken, with casualties on both sides.

This year, I had the pleasure to see the project awarded at both @pdnonline Photo Annual and @magentafoundation Flash Forward.

Today the united strength of hundreds of thousands of Armenians confirmed the truth of this statement! The high of this day can be felt to it’s extreme sense by the people who took to the streets and said enough is enough, without giving way to fear. Today was achieved by the people themselves, not political parties, not celebrities, not intellectuals. In a time when the world is inflamed by violence it is the greatest victory that today’s outcome was achieved without bloodshed. Like any revolution, it is only the people who can change the dynamics of a society.
The vision and strength of the youth hand in hand with the experience of the old united and gave voice to the masses.
This is just the beginning. The first of many highs. The work starts now. Let’s celebrate this victory and decide to never allow complaisance to take over. To create the country and society we envision for Armenia, we must remain actively involved in the sculpting of it, in the quality of the stone and clay, in the process of the chisels, in the disposing of the dust. You brought this day to fruition and our work as a nation has just begun.

Armenia, my love, respect, admiration for you grows exponentially with each moment.

Today April 24th marks the 103rd anniversary of Genocide of the Armenian people by the hands of ottoman turks. A Genocide that the turkish government and many turkish people continue to deny. I am a proud Armenian American and a message to all who deny history, just know that everyone knows the truth and know that your failure to recognize the Armenian Genocide has been nothing but a scar on your country. turkey will never be part of the eu while you continue to deny history, while you continue to kill and jail those in your country who speak out , and while you continue to committ genocide, this time against the Kurds under the guise of war in Syria. God Bless Armenia, a beautiful country full of beautiful people with a rich culture and history. Sometimes people ask me why I go to Armenian church each sunday. A lot of it is out of respect for my great grandmother whose husbands head was cut off and whose children were marched into the desert by turks and starved to death. All of my great grandparents lived a similar story and its something i think about everyday. I go to church because its a way to commune with my tribe and my people. I love my culture. I am with you always 🇦🇲

I was with my friend Andrea traveling around Armenia and we were in Abovyan where we found this huge chair. We though it will be nice to climb up there and take some pictures. Well,… I guess everyone thinks the same but then, the you are trying to get on top is when you start thinking its creators though about that too, of course, and made it this way to don’t let people get on it that easy, otherwise the sculpture won’t last too long. So, we have to help each other to climb on top of the other person before to jump on the chair. And this is just half of the way because to climb down is also quite another tragedy. Anyway it worth it, we made happy many Armenians who were passing by and look at the ridiculous show we were performing trying to get on top… I do remember someone them took pictures from us, and I was very happy to succeed climbing there.

Constantine X Doukas was the ruler of the Byzantine Empire from 1059 to 1067 CE. During his reign, the Byzantine Empire was attacked by emerging enemies on all sides, including the Normans in Italy and the Seljuk Turks in Armenia and Anatolia. Constantine’s policies isolated the Monophysite Armenians, downsized the army at the worst possible moment, and contributed to the general decline of Byzantium during the second half of the 11th century CE. Although Constantine was a poor emperor, it was his successors who would have to bear his unhelpful legacy.

Constantine was from a powerful landed family in Anatolia and was connected through marriage to other leading Byzantine families. For example, he was married to Eudokia Makrembolitissa, the niece of Michael Keroularios, the Patriarch of Constantinople. Constantine had been imprisoned by John the Orphanotrophus, the effective power behind the throne, back during the reign of Michael IV the Paphlagonian (r. 1034-1041 CE) for supporting a suspected rebel. However, Constantine disappeared from the historical record for the next two decades, which saw the final end of the ruling Macedonian Dynasty in 1056 CE and the emergence of a period of uncertainty as to who would rule Byzantium•

Being far far away from my country and not being able to do anything hurts me a lot. I cant do anything but pray for my people. Seeing our vice president destroying our people and witnessing the violation of peaceful citizens just breaks my heart. The government is driving more violence day by day on peaceful people which is making the situation worse because at the end of the day we are all Armenians and we have to sick together for victory. I want to believe that those soldiers are forced to attack but i also believe that if they stand up for their rights and disobey the orders, the government will eventually realize that the time has come and that our vice president has to leave the country for good. We need a leader who cares for the country and for our beautiful people. There is no such thing as humans rights in Armenia and this has to change and every person has right to speak up and stand up for themselves. Hoping one day my beautiful country will have an amazing leader who will care for my people and not for the money. My thoughts and prayers are with all my friends, relatives and my family who lives there. Please do not stop. This has to end for good.🙏🏻🙏🏻🙏🏻🙏🏻🙏🏻🙏🏻🙏🏻🙏🏻🙏🏻🙏🏻🙏🏻 #payqarminchevverj🙏🏻🙏🏻🙏🏻🙏🏻

Peaceful mass protests have brought a watershed moment to Armenia, a small landlocked, post-Soviet nation.
An opposition politician who harnessed a revolution has lost a vote in parliament to become prime minister, but his movement has ousted Armenia's leader and raised hopes of free and fair elections.
When Nikol Pashinyan, 42, set off on his "My Step" protest march on 31 March from Armenia's second city Gyumri, sporting his trademark khaki T-shirt, only a couple of dozen people joined him, and they were mainly journalists.
By the time the MP and ex-journalist had reached the capital Yerevan on 13 April, thousands more had joined his movement.

For many Armenians this is the first time since independence from the Soviet Union in 1991 that they are able to believe in a better future.
When a barman in your hotel opens a cupboard and pulls out the national flag to show that he supports the protest movement, you know something is fundamentally changing.
So too for the 17-year-old school student skipping class to attend two weeks of rallies, because he wants access to a better education; the villagers in remote areas who feel that their voices are finally being heard; and the 12-year-old children blocking roads in an act of nationwide civil disobedience. "We've tried to protest in the past so many times, but those protests did not lead to any changes and people lost hope," says Mher Gabrelyan, the barman with the flag. "It's different this time because at last there is someone helping to lead us." More on BBC.COM

The genocide was the Ottoman government's systematic killing of 1.5 - 2 million Armenians, there numbers are disputed, but the most sources agree that the numbers reach up to nearly two million.
Mostly people living within the empire and the republic of turkey.
The holocaust took place between 1915 -1922, and was carried out by the Young Turks who held the government.

The Armenian people had lived in the Caucasus region for 3000 years, first they were an indipendent entity, but the control of the region shifted from one empire to another.
They also made Christianity it's official religion a long time ago.
During the 15th century, Armenia was absorbed into the Ottoman Empire which viewed the Armenians as infidels, and treated them unequal and unjust.
They had to pay higher taxes and had very few political and legal rights.
Some of the first massacres happened in the late 19th century when between 80-300 000 were murdured in the Hamidian Massacres.

When the Young Turks came to power in 1908 they wanted to turkify the whole empire, the Armenian people were subjected to deportation, expropriation, abduction, torture, massacre and starvation.
They were sent on death marches through the desert, without food or water.
Forced to walk under the burning sun they dropped dead, people who stopped to rest were shot on the spot.
Killing squads were set up to as one officer put it "the liquidation of the christian elements".
People were drowned, thrown from cliffs, shot, crucified and burned alive.
When the genocide was over, there were only around 388 000 Armenians left in the Ottoman Empire.

The leaders of the Young Turks fled to Germany which promised not to prosecute them for their deeds.
However, The Armenian Revolutionary Federation, made a plan called Operation Nemesis, were they hunted down the Ottoman officials responsible for the genocide.

It's been illegal to talk about this subject in Turkey, is it still?-

Funny story: Why did Alexander Pushkin hate Armenian bread?

Two reasons mainly. One, he did not have the lavash.
-
The second reason needs more explaining, but first, you might wonder, who is this Alexander Pushkin fellow? Well, Alexander Sergeyevich Pushkin was a Russian poet, playwright, and novelist of the Romantic era who is considered by many to be the greatest Russian poet and the founder of modern Russian literature.
-
So on that note, we have missed the boat on this one, since Alexander Pushkin might have given Armenia it’s most famous lavash quotation if he had ever gotten a chance to taste it. Instead, he had purnit also called krkeni, an ancient bread even older than lavash.
-
A primitive forerunner of modern Armenian breads, it is a bread cooked, not baked, in wood ashes, a low tech and fuel-efficient method which is all but lost today.
-
More than a century ago, Armenian peasants from Kars treated Pushkin to this ash-bread. Little did they know that their Armenian-looking, curly-haired guest sitting by the cooking fire would become the most famous Russian poet of all time.
-
Apparently, the Armenians failed to tell Pushkin that he needed to slap the bread to rid it of its clinging ashes. The poor Russian probably tasted as much soot as he did bread. Pushkin was so disgusted that, in his diary, Voyage to Arzum, he cursed the “Goddamn half-dough and half-ash Armenian bread”, and he left a famous exclamation for posterity: “I would give everything for a piece of black Russian bread.”
-
His quote about Russian bread became a catchphrase in recent Russian marketing campaigns promoting baked goods. Had the Kars peasants but known that their small act of hospitality would have such far-reaching consequences, they might have treated Pushkin with a big tasty brdooch instead.

This quote never rang so true as to describe the passion, courage, and grace of the Armenian people.
I’m so happy! Today again Armenia proved how free and independent she is 🇦🇲💪🏻❤️👍🏻 First time in history, a rooted people of such rich culture and courage started a revolution two weeks ago, managing to unify the entire country of Armenia with one voice and one goal, to overtake and overthrow the rule of government from the hands of the corrupt oligarchs, WITHOUT A SINGLE LOSS OF LIFE AND WITHOUT FOREIGN POLITICAL OR FINANCIAL INFLUENCE! For several weeks now, all of Armenia and all Armenians around the world demonstrated and marched as the people took power back from the oligarchs by blocking roads, closing schools, businesses, and airports, partying on the streets day and night, making sure everyone was fed and all the city was cleaned in the aftermath, in order to assure the victory of our people and our future as a resilient, independent first and oldest Christian nation in history. It started with the people, it will remain with the people and @nikol.pashinyan1 Nikol Pashinyan who single handedly started this revolution, managed to unify and clarify all the good things that await Armenia without the corrupt powers that attempted to choke every opportunity out of her. Today Mr. Nikol Pashinyan was named the new Prime Minister of the republic of Armenia, chosen by all of the people and supported to the end. A massive congratulations to all my Armenian friends, family, and countrymen, we have proved to the world that we are a peaceful and wise nation, able to set higher standards of conduct and redefine the meaning of a peaceful revolution! (Fun fact: behind the new prime minister stands @serjtankian member of the famed S.O.A.D. Rock band, one of millions of Armenians from abroad to show his full support and congratulations!). (This is a gathering of celebratory Armenia in the capitol city of Yerevan, Armenia, where I was born and raised up).
