As we grow, our bodies change, tighten with stress of living, our hearts sometimes harden, our minds sometimes close. We forget that we are in this together. We are connected to each other in the world. We can choose to let go of the fear, restriction and constraints. As we breathe into the space between bones and we feel our hearts and muscles relax, we find new openness. In the stillness of each breath and in the motion in between, our hearts soften, our minds expand. And as we allow the light to shine from within us, it has a chance to light up the world. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀

Spending more time free flowing is everything to me right now At the beginning of today’s sesh, some of my breaths were heavy, and hard. Like I was forcing energy out. It wasn’t a breath I could manage with a closed mouth, it needed to be released. It was like fighting to bring in and release air. It was in observing these challenging breaths that I remembered I had an anxiety attack last night. (Isn’t it interesting how our minds just block random shit out over time- even if overnight). Some anxiety attacks, such as last night’s, aren’t too traumatic- they look like me laying in bed, hands on my chest, deep exhales through the mouth trying to release this excess energy running through me. Sometimes this energy runs through my body, sometimes it runs through my mind- each a different ache. I am so fucking thankful for this practice. I talk about yoga and holistic care a lot, probably to a point of annoyance for some, but these practice have truly saved me. If not my life, then my sanity. Sending love + light, Friends.

Despite the battered look, it didn’t hurt at all. .

After spending a week in high heels and dresses (instead of my preferred uniform of barefoot and yoga pants), 14 hours days turned “on” - personally connecting with nearly 100 incredible souls, up early & going to bed late, skipping out on my usual morning yoga routine, lugging a heavy bag around on my shoulder, and trekking 100 pounds of luggage up & down 3 flights of stairs (because there was NO elevator at the resort -- say whaaat?) -- my body was letting me know that it was SO not happy with my choices. I was in serious need of self-care!
I totally know better. And, I usually do better. But, sometimes, when opportunity is knocking, you answer & let you normal routines fall by the wayside. At least I did. Just for a short while.

Then it was time to drop back in to my self-love routines. This photo shows evidence of that -- my first cupping experience. As amazing as our bodies are, sometimes they need a little help. The cupping essentially acts as a vacuum that increases fresh blood flow to sore muscles as well as removing toxins -- this combined with some acupuncture moved a lot of stuck energy in my body and had me feeling whole again. 🙌🏼 Almost.
There were still a couple kinks to work out, so I waited a couple of days & then decided to book a therapeutic deep tissue massage.

Now, THAT actually hurt like hell!! On the table, I was sitting with the pain of this sweet woman digging deep into my muscles with the force of an elephant, and a beautiful metaphor popped into my head. (Because, you know, I pretty much think in metaphors). As I felt the pain of the deep pressure in my muscles, I knew I had a few choices.
I could have yelled at the practitioner, “what did I ever do to you?” (lol) or perhaps just asked her to ease up a bit. But, I didn’t. Because, I knew there was sweet relief on the other side.
I could have tensed up and held my breath and fought against her pressure -- a natural stress response in the body. But that could have caused me more pain, and would have lessened the potential healing. (Continued in comments...)

Flowing through my life’s vinyasa being as real and open as my current stage of development provides. In this moment I have students who teach me every class. I am whole heartedly committed to offering each one space to share his/her story and to grow it — whether she’s the larger bodied black woman in North St. Louis who is finding her breath in my free chair yoga class or he’s an athlete I am privileged to help undo some of his body’s damage or it’s a class of wealthy people at a prestigious hotel. Everyone has a story and is a story. Each with a heart and a desire to be understood and valued. I’m entirely grateful to @yogasix, @acrounicorn & @sarahfuhrmannyoga for opening this world to me thru their 200 hour teacher training. It changed my life. Now as I co-plan a retreat in Costa Rica (!!!) with these two women and @yoga4equality, & as I begin my 500 RYT training with @acrounicorn at @namasteyogastl, I am entirely bubbling with glee. It fills my heart, body & mind. There’s this energy flowing up and out of me and I plan to weave it into all the sacred Love atoms in the air until it ricochets and brings you and everyone closer to Love and understanding. Closer to your real & open vinyasa. Closer to your calling. Thank you for taking the time to read my words here. Sometimes I write short funny content, and sometimes I’ve just gotta be verbose about all the gooey love vibes I’m exploding with over here. So thank you. I love you. .

2/2

Sometimes its not meant to be forever. Friendships, family, jobs, acquaintances. Sometimes we are only meant to cross paths to bring or receive a lesson. Or to align ourselves or someone else with our prospective soul family.

Sometimes we are meant to experience that amazing whirlwind romance just to show us that we can love and trust and good things do happen.

Sometimes we are called to step away because either we have healing and growing to do, or the other person does. Or simply, there is no more lessons to learn.

The biggest and most profound growth often happens when we are alone, when we feel we are isolated.

All of those feelings of hurt, loss and betrayal, there is something so much greater in them than the belief that someone else caused them. You have your true self to rediscover through all the sticky emotional mess you are burying yourself in.

Leap up from the depths, take a deep breath and dive back in, but deeper this time round. Clearing all the debris to the surface, facing it head of and decided what needs to go and what you are bringing along for the long haul. And in doing so, you will get to the Heart of who you truly are. ©The Sage Son

I love to rise before the sun and enjoy the quiet morning hours when the earth is just beginning to stir. On our farm we hear the birds starting to sing and roosters crowing in the distance. They say the veils are thinner during this time (4-7am) so I like to wake up and meditate first thing. My routine upon waking: Open my eyes, lay in bed and think of 10 things I'm grateful for, shower, drink warm lemon water, light some incense and roll out my mat and meditation pillows. If it's still dark I'll light a candle.
.
My morning meditation lasts anywhere from 5 - 30 minutes, leading into pranayama and asana. Sometimes I'll close with another meditation and take a moment to pull an oracle card. I give thanks for the gift of life, consciously imagine HOW I would like my day to go and then finish with some toning. Occasionally my husband joins me (which I LOVE).
.
Starting my day with intention and self love enables me to show up for others. I feel more joyful, centered and balanced. I bring a more genuine, authentic version of myself to all of my interactions. I have more clarity and energy and I feel deeply connected to my truth and purpose. When challenges arise I remember to come back to my breath and I'm able to witness life and observe my internal process with gentleness and love. My yoga practice reminds me of the importance of PRESENCE and the sacredness of all things.
.
How do you like to start your day? What practices support you in finding greater balance, calm and center?

I call this the Squeezed-my-boobs-into-this-top/No-thigh-gap/Hairy-legs/Stretch-marks/Zero-makeup/Loose-skin-from-pregnancy-Flow. AKA the “seen rarely on Instagram”-flow😇 Granted, this could also be the Strong-as-hell/Grounded/Breathing-deeply/Just-out-here-being-human-Flow... It depends on where your attention goes. To you, my body might look perfect. To me, accepting myself is a practice I have to continuously step into again and again.

I feel strong today. Also, fed up as hell with my explore feed being filled by size 0 white girls with their feet on their heads selling yoga pants made in sweatshops. (how do I get people I don’t follow and have never once clicked “like” on out of my feed?)🤔 Now, I realize I am also a part of the norm. I’m white, I’m blonde, I’m a woman, I’m flexible... But I’m also trying to change the industry I’m a part of. I’m a yogi, but also just a mother trying to find her way. Sometimes insecure. Frustrated. Looking for connection, vulnerability, truth. Wanting to make a change in the world wherever I can.
And here is the thing. #yogaeverydamnday isn’t the fancy, the glamorous, the picture-perfect, the adventurous, or only the skinny, the flexible, the white, the female, the young. Yoga is for EVERYONE. And it’s a shame we don’t get to see more of the everyone, the every day, the regular, messy, normal, challenging, less-than-perfect and not-for-likes posts. I shouldn’t have to say this but yoga is not about the superficial stuff this weird-ass app highlights for you every day.
It’s learning to love your body the way it is RIGHT NOW. It’s bringing our attention away from comparison, from the not-enough, the if-only. It’s trying to find a moment of quiet while your baby takes a nap. It’s tentatively merging breath with movement to find relief from pain. It’s looking for community. And yes, often times it’s struggling... But sticking with it anyway.

If you can breathe, you can practice yoga. You belong here. As you are.

So... Just keep practicing. Get on the mat! And start appreciating the hell out of your body because doing anything else is both a goddamn shame and breaking our collective hearts all at once

The truth of it is some days just feel harder than others. Your soul feels a little smaller and a lot sadder. Today all I wanted to do was stay in bed. When you live in chronic pain sometimes just getting up is a challenge. It’s the baby steps, the small triumphs that are huge and key in my life! We need to celebrate them more! To truly be present and see one another’s daily wins. It was pain that first turned me onto yoga. I practice yoga because I know it brings hope. It is restorative regardless of my emotions brought to the mat. It is a reminder to choose gratitude. If I can make it to the mat and simply breath I can begin to reclaim myself, to feel grounded again and whole. We don’t talk enough about the challenges we are facing whether visible or not. So today I applaud you if you got out of bed! I applaud you for putting one foot in front of the other and taking those steps! I applaud you for feeding yourself and for loving your body enough to take care of it! Whatever your little triumph is today celebrate it! Reclaim your power, your awesomeness, your strength, your courageous heart and your voice. Proclaim kindness, compassion and love for yourself and those who surround you. For you are enough, worthy and wonderful just as you are! I am proud of you. I see you and I honor your story. I encourage your to share the love and tag someone below with a message of love who needs reminding of their own greatness💖💜💙💛💚❤️🧡

I struggle sometimes to find words to caption my yoga posts... so many yogis have inspirational quotes and eloquent words that seem so full of wisdom. Well... that shit ain’t me. 😝 As a teacher, and in my personal practice, I try to stay true to myself and who I am in real life, in classes, and not a persona I think I should be behind a smudged up iPhone screen. I have a Sanskrit vocabulary I can pull out to impress but I try harder to be relatable because relatable teachers are where I find comfort and learn the most. Our couples practice can be gentle, sweaty, super hard, basic poses, or frustrating when a picture makes it look so easy and it just isn’t achievable for us that day. We battle shitty days, injuries, and lack motivation from time to time. Some days we fly high and others we fall, pick each other back up, dust off and try a different approach. I suppose those are all elements of our relationship too. Our practice teaches us things we can apply off our mats in our friendship & marriage. To take a deep breath, open our hearts to one another and show love, compassion, and kindness. So, even though none of the words above are big and I rely on autocorrect, they are real. They are me, they are us (and surprisingly less colorful words than usual 😂).... with all that said, stay tuned for our next couples yoga workshop coming in April. It might, just MIGHT also involve some 🍺. 😉🙏🏼

I’m not always the best at opening up about my challenges, but I know that everybody faces them and sometimes sharing a bit feels right. Two years ago I underwent a life-changing intestinal surgery. I have struggled with chronic illnesses throughout my life, from several GI disorders to fibromyalgia to autoimmune/neuromuscular conditions, some of which I am still trying to get figured out. There are many days that I feel super overwhelmed by everything in combination with my busy schedule and all of the work I am completing for my internship. There are also many days that I am overwhelmed with gratitude for all that I CAN do, for all of the beautiful people and opportunities I have in my life, and for how far I have come in these past two years.
In terms of yoga, I developed a sort of love-hate relationship with my practice after my surgery. I became frustrated with the challenges I faced while attempting poses that were once easier, and especially with the days that pain has prevented me from practicing at all. What I am learning now is the importance of embracing the opportunity that I have to work with my body, and empower myself through yoga each day. There are some days that gentle stretching and breath work are the extent of my ability, and others that I can flow in and out of strong poses for what feels like forever. Accepting my body as it is and learning to work with my limitations has been a process that I will only continue to grow from, and, for that, I am forever grateful.

Taking a giant belly breath and slowing my gears back down. Listening. Accepting what is, and preparing for what’s next. This week has been a whirlwind, and the release of emotion that movement without thought provides is a welcome relief from the stiffness that stress has carried with it. Sometimes when I’m overwhelmed I have a habit of being stagnant. Of shutting down, and wallowing in my disappointment. I’m so grateful that I now have incorporated yoga as a tool to work through things that my mind struggles to get a grip on. I have to remind myself when I feel like staying in bed that the release and relief that Yoga provides is worth the initial “meh” feeling of forcing myself on my mat (or carpet). At this moment, there’s nowhere else I’d rather be but here with my love and our cat child. 🌎

As if you're at the start of an epic journey and don't know what lies ahead. Like there's a mountain to climb and you're afraid of heights. As if you have to throw something you love into the fire so you can be free?

That's what these cards from my gorgeous new Mystical Shaman Oracle deck mean to me. The Journey and The Holy Mountain.
I can't explain how 2 randomly picked cards can accurately describe what's happening in your life, but they can, and they do.

And the fact that the theme of my classes for this Moon phase is Transitions isn't lost on me either.

The Universe has a way of guiding us in the right direction...sometimes it's a gentle nudge towards pastures new and sometimes it's more of a shove into the fiery chasm. Which can be utterly delicious or utterly terrifying or both, depending on your perspective.

All you can do is trust that the Universe knows what it's doing (it does), trust that if you keep putting one foot in front of the other you'll end up where you need to be, and trust your breath. That's the most important bit. Just breathe, breathe and breathe some more and those perilous climbs up narrow mountain stairways and heart-stopping showdowns with your darkest demons (or giant Hobbit eating spiders!) won't seem all that bad. I promise.

No open classes this week, I'm taking some time off over the Easter break to eat chocolate and be with my not so little Hobbits @james.wilkess and

Often times a mistake we make is thinking that pushing ourselves past our limits will allow us to get deeper. The problem with this is as the breath shallows and as the central nervous system is ranked up, it actually restricts movement. While you may get deeper in the moment, your chance of injury increases and if you notice, just a half hour later you have lost the range of motion. Being more gentle, breathing, and allowing the fascia to open naturally can sometimes be more effective 🙏🏻 Save this modification for your personal practice and tag someone who could benefit. This variation of Parivrtta Janu Sirsasana has been in my top 5 yoga poses for 3 years now. I go bonkers over side body stretches. I absolutely love them 😍

You want to try and prevent that too shoulder from caving in - that’s where he strap will come in handy and support you where your current limit is :) ** also, make sure you’re respecting your body’s limit in the pose. Sometimes we like to give ourself that extra push, but you can definitely pull something here if you do that. So be gentle ☺️❤️

Wednesday 9:17 am

I've been learning a lot about trust lately.
I'll admit, its sometimes hard to take in the things God gives to me. Questions like: "What if it's not from God?" or "Okay is this really part of your will Lord?" Or "is this your will Lord?" Or "IS THIS REALLY YOUR WILL LORD?" Lol.
Or another one is "I don't want to repeat the past, Lord?"
I pray constantly that I can be different or new everyday or that something will change in me a little more.
Block out those toxic habitual things. When I think about it, I really do try to be the best dang goodie-good I can.
But literally the other night, I didn't realize how closed up I was still with myself. How not-so honest I was with myself. Even though I may be going in the right path, I never stopped to take a moment and let go of the things that hinder me from THRIVING on the path. Not just going through the motions of God's will for me. As much as I want to be a hand to others, I never stopped to look at myself. What I hold on to still. Even subconsciously. What I've heard that I am and that those are things that I am really not, but I believed them subconsciously still.
To come clean:
~being PASSIVE
~holding on to people's words about me, good or bad
~not speaking up when someone is wrong or being immoral
~being FIRM in my relationship with Jesus Christ AND letting others know that, where I stand and why I do what I do
~thinking that I can't be more free and not taking my dreams higher
~thinking that I can't change to a person of my word
~Looking back at my past of sexual tendencies that tell me that I'm just a rag doll & abstence and trust is gone
~Comparing the world's love to me

It was almost like it blocked me from actually breathing the life God was trying to give me.

So today, what I worked on was simply...breathing and opening up my heart.
Letting those toxic things go. Inhaling God's breath of life and exhaling my everything to Him.
It's going to take a lot more breathing but its the start of more change within my god-made soul and the rest of my life.

Vrikshasana or tree pose: stretches & strengthens the entire body, by engaging your toes the whole foot & ankle, you can treat 'flat foot' by improving the strength of the arches in your feet-which if you have flat foot may be why it can tingle sometimes in tree pose.
As you feel the strength & support from the earth, let it travel up your legs. Being mindful of the knee, engage your quads & bring the cocyx into alignment for a more stable tree.
A nice way to think of your legs in this pose, is to imagine your outer bent leg as a branch that helps stabilize the trunk, like our arms do for our upper body. Tailbone goes in, knee bends out, foot is attached to inner thigh.
Keep a long spine, use core muscles for balance & feel whatever you are feeling. Chest is open, shoulders are rolled up & back, neck is neutral & bring awareness to your arms.
Whether you want to have hands at your hearts center, or in prayer at your back, or over your head or lotus hands, do it with all of your heart.
Keep your drishti (gaze) on something in the distance that is still. Remember that your breath makes all of this possible, every movement, every muscle contraction & expansion.
Take this posture with care, balancing postures can stir up emotions, as your strength is questioned and found. And what beautiful strength you have! When you realize it, the results can be overwhelming, but BEAUTIFUL!

This weekend I did all the yoga (meditation; asana; teaching). my heart is full. brimming with gratitude and love. I’m still nursing my injury but have come to embrace a new pace of life - slow, calm, introspective, steady, grounded. The sitting with myself- the journaling - the being in the moment - the tears and laughter and self realization - it’s enough to take my breath away sometimes. Prior to injury, l was running a lot - all the while knowing I was running from myself. Self anesthetizing through physical endurance, until my body said, “no more! It’s time to stop and check-in!” What’s unfolded is beyond my capacity of verbal expression. It’s a visceral grounded sense of gnosis and self-kindness which has resulted in something I could not have imagined... my body is thanking me - I didn’t realize how years of physical exercise, deprivation and lack of sleep had left this body depleted and so it stopped me in my tracks, forcing me to check in with myself. The best part? I’m digging it, ALL of it! Turns out, I really like slowing down and being with myself💁🏼‍♀️ this week marks the beginning of a new chapter that’s been in the making for many, many years AND I’m stoked. #MSW #hereicome #yogaoffthemat #bourbon #sundaynight #ramblings

Soften the body, deepen the pose.
Soften the mind, deepen awareness.
Soften the breath, deepen your presence.
Soften your tone, deepen communication.
Soften your gaze, deepen your vision.
Soften your touch, deepen intimacy.
Soften the noise, deepen your ability to hear.
Soften judgement, deepen acceptance.
Soften expectation, deepen the experience.
Soften control, deepen flow.
Soften in forcing, deepen in allowing.
Soften in seeking, deepen in receiving.
Soften doubt, deepen faith.
Soften the heart, deepen in love.
Soften your soul, deepen your growth.

Soften anything, deepen everything. Not sure what to soften? Then get quiet and reflect on what it is that you are craving to deepen and let that be your guide. I know this is all easier said than done. Softening can be incredibly HARD, that is real. It has a tendency to stir up feelings of vulnerability, guilt and fear but that is only because what awaits us on the other side is so incredibly powerful and shifting and that is SCARY sometimes. So maybe start with simply softening to the idea of softening and see where that takes you. Just try, see what happens... if nothing else, softening to that possibility will at least deepen discovery, and that is a beautiful start 🙏🏼

that being said, sometimes I can get lost in the chase for meaning and so I loved reading a piece about reading with a soft gaze that reminded me to breath and made me think of the drishti in yoga--you can will yourself into balance only so much until you need to soften to go any further.
-
-
I love reading about tarot and doing readings for myself and others, but I think some of that ease I'm experiencing is realizing I don't need to teach myself everything (and especially with mercury in retrograde) is inviting me to invest in listening, to sit back and absorb, so I'm posting this to enter the #lunariatarotmastery giveaway that @oliviapepper is hosting so I don't have to conjure all the knowledge up myself. otherwise, use this weekend to recharge and figure out where you need to soften to advance forward and how to strike that balance of effort and ease ✨🌱

Never underestimate the power of a 'slower' yoga class. I think here in the west we are all so used to this fast paced life. Constantly in a hurry and finding the quickest way possible to deliver results. Don't get me wrong I personally LOVE a dynamic and sweaty practice but when I go back to basics and set the intention to be nothing else but feeling and breathing, something shifts. I can move away from the chatty, busy place in my mind. The gentle, slower movements almost cause a chain reaction to my brain saying SLOW the hell down girl and feel what's going on.
I noticed today in class while being in a posture I normally find easy (pigeon) that i was experiencing so much discomfort and found it so hard to just stay in it without wriggling around. You think this is just a coincidence? I don't. Certain parts of our bodies carry a lot of tension mental and emotional and when we don't take the time to release them they just build and build. Sometimes the best way to notice when your off balance is to go back to basics and turn down the speed. Allow the body to linger in areas that feel tense, stay there for a few moments and use your breath to ease yourself deeper into the moment. Relate it back to your life, are you running away when something pops up that doesn't feel great? Are you so caught up in the craziness of your monkey mind that your missing the moment and the value it could have if you just stopped for a few moments.
Go back to FEELING and watch the shift take place ❤️

Sometimes people message me and ask me for the “secret” to a posture. Here’s the secret to this one, and it’s the same as the rest: There isn’t one. The “secret” lies within the dedication and discipline of showing up on your mat each day and practicing. The good days. And the bad days. The good side of your body, and the tighter side of your body. I used to hate this posture. So I did it everyday until I didn’t any more. I’m on that same process with other postures now, too (like standing head to knee. Fuck standing head to knee. So I do it until I love you). But, there is technique. The technique will also be revealed with time, breath and hard work. I’ll post a video of how I got into this one tomorrow (I was shown a new way!!) #yoga #strength #flexibility #truenutrition #iifym #fitness #secrets #lalalandyoga #lalalandcomfywear

Sandy knees, palm trees, and inversions 🌴
I’ll admit, I’m practicing a lot less yoga (re: asana practice) than I anticipated. I figured that since I’d be in Thailand, I would find classes to drop in on every day. And while there is ample opportunity to practice at different centers, the yoga I’ve actually been doing has been less practical, and more mindful. 💫
But we have been diving. And as I mentioned previously, that has been my yoga the last few days. Focusing on my breath. Finding stillness in the depths. Being fully present in each moment throughout this journey.
🌞
It’s cliche, but it’s true. Yoga is not just physical. It’s a mindset, a lifestyle. Building strength, finding peace, and cultivating love from within. And sometimes, all you need to do is go upside down, down under the sea, or inward to the depths of your own soul to find it. 🕉

My kitchen is so gross right now, my floors are dusty, and my kids ate frozen pizza and watched tv while I flailed around like some sort of uncoordinated chicken before going into a short yoga practice. I can’t do it all. I can’t wrk full time and be super mom and super wife and carve time for myself. I’m legit 3 weeks behind in school right now too. Depression hits hard with me anyway, but lupus makes it 100x worse. For those that reassure me that I can still live a perfectly normal life, I don’t think they know what I consider normal. I’ve been hit hard with a lupus flare the last couple of weeks and the joint pain coupled with the fatigue is real right now. I sat and talked myself out of doing anything tonight and then immediately regrouped. I don’t have to go balls to the wall and burn out, I just need to move, I need to sweat, I need to keep my muscles moving and flexible. Too many times we give ourselves the reasons why not, sometimes we have to remind ourselves that it’s not always beast mode, sometimes it’s listening to Snow Patrol and The Fray while you enjoy the moments of movement and breath. #homeworkout #sweat #yoga #yogi #breathandmovement #mindbodysoul #learningtolovemyself #breathe #chronicillness #lupus #lupuswarrior #flaredays #depression #superwoman #justmove #inthemoment #love #momlife #metime #mymat #flailingchickensarecoolright

While yeah, it’s fun to show off with arm balances...(let’s not act like we post our dope arm balances just for educational purposes only, they are really fun to show), I do arm balances for the balance they bring to my mind. If you really think about it, besides breath there really isn’t any other thing that demands your presence and awareness in the physical asana practice. When I am here, I’m feeling every single muscle having to engage, i don’t have the capacity to think about anything else while I’m moving through the challenge of overcoming gravity while also trying to maintain breath. I do both gymnastics and yoga and sometimes I’ll differentiate because in some gymnastics type workouts I do, they look like I’m doing yoga and some yoga I do, looks like gymnastics. I love the connectedness I get from all movement but it is especially yogic for me if my breath is first and attainment is second and that is not always the truth. Just my point of view 😉”

As we come to the end of a tragic and heavy week, I can’t help but get real about the current state of the world. I’m meeting myself at a new place where making it better feels like an impossible undertaking. Beyond not having a plan for action, what’s harder is that I don’t even have words. But, what I do have is my breath and a body that works. So instead of trying to find the words, I’ll lean into the quiet. I’ll let the breath do the speaking and simply allow the movement and authentic and accessible action to become clear from that. Sometimes softening is better than forcing. Sometimes when we feel like we need to fix, make better or help someone or something, there’s nothing to actually do. That’s why we feel helpless. Rather than judge that, and try to create a solution where one doesn’t exist, we just have to be with it and remember that sometimes less is more. Sometimes silence is more powerful than words. Sometimes stillness invites the most change. Forced action can potentially create other challenges, but authentic action heals every time. My yoga practice is the best space to explore that, understand and integrate that in my body. When you feel like the weight of the world is taking life force from you and you feel helpless or drained, don’t beat yourself up about it, don’t judge it. And don’t do just anything because you feel like you should do something. Simply do what you know you can, which is taking care of yourself. Roll out your mat, get on it, and just breathe. Allow. See what happens and go with it. The breath is always honest and always knows best. Whatever action or movement that comes from that you can guarantee will be powerful, authentic and healing. Give yourself permission to just be, I promise it’s the greatest thing you can do for the world. And so simple and accessible. To bring light into the world, you simply need to connect with your own and tap into it. The rest will just come. Sending love, peace and ease to all beings, everywhere 🙏🏼💜✨ #justbe #healyourself #healtheworld #practice #quiet #stillness #light #healing #yoga #meditation #breath #reiki

I taught yoga in a few small towns in Nevada. I had a shared studio space in one town full of snow most days. Sometimes,I led families through sun salutations in the fresh green grass of a community garden. It was one of the most amazing times of my life - as it allowed me to give back to my community and bring my love of yoga to others. I was a Vega Ambassador, Worked with Jade Yoga, and got the opportunity to be featured on the home page of BeUp Clothing. Life happened, moves brought us to different states.......and my focus shifted.
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
It wasn't that yoga wasn't a part of my life anymore - it still is - but I found myself being pulled to help more students in the field of higher edu in psychology and English. The one thing I learned was that even though I had many interests - I could always come "back home" on my yoga mat, to my breath, and to where it all started. >>

I can use that patient breath off my mat when i am dealing with anything working against me or if i am feeling stuck. i can figure out what i need each time without overthinking it & I just need something that’s going to help me right now, next week, & in 20 years. i don’t need to do any fancy pose to get me there & you don’t either! it takes a while but the more you go, the change happens to you. more patience, confidence, perspective shifts about the way you look at the 🌎 , you learn a lot about yourself, how to take care of yourself gently. all from yoga! so, you should practice more. when youre stuck, feel tight, having a bad or good day. it doesn’t matter if you aren’t flexible; biggest cop out! just move how YOU want! ANYWAYS, i am working on my 🧘‍♀️ sequence today for @thegoodfest this weekend & will prob flow a lot of free flows and whatever else you feel like doing to the music. i. Can’t. Wait. enjoy your day 🖤 #freemovement #yoga #pumawomen #PUMA

Meditation is something that changes form for me on a regular basis. Sometimes it's sitting with mala beads and counting my breath - a surprisingly feel-good way to achieve a 15-minute meditation, which often leaves me feeling insanely good... to a run down by the river. Cooking is another favourite form of meditation, as are other creative and craft style activities. I spent all of Sunday making napkins for 45 people - and it was one of the best meditations I've had all week. Then there is time on the mat - yoga flowing and intuitive movement or time outdoors getting grounded in nature.

So you see, there is no right or wrong when it comes to meditation. Whether you are stopping, pausing and breathing, or finding your own space in another way... it could be as simple as you finding your own meditative rhythm just by doing something which you love to do. Something effortless that brings you joy and slows your thoughts.
.
What are some of the ways you stop, pause and meditate?

Thanks for stopping by to check out my new IG. My name is Melanie and I’m a excited to share with you my love of yoga and women’s health on this page. First off a little about me... I’m a mid 40’s momma of four kiddos, one boy and three girls. My hubby and I have made our home in Southern California in a smallish town, Yucaipa. I have worked in the medical field for over 20 years as a respiratory therapist. I have always loved to help people and the cardiopulmonary system is fascinating to me. I have specialized in working with babies in the Neonatal ICU. Helping people breathe is literally my job. After going through 500 hours of yoga training I fell into the path of helping women connect to their bodies and their breath through yoga. I have attended many deliveries over the past 20 years and I have come to recognize the need to help women especially during labor. I believe this happens way before the birthing process even takes place. If Women can connect to their bodies and their breath before labor begins they can stay focused and trust in how truly strong they really are. Womanhood and Motherhood is a beautiful process that begins with self Love. 💗
I believe Postnatal recovery is often neglected in America. Many women only have one post-natal visit with their OB/GYN. The female body goes thru so many changes after birth, both physically and emotionally not to mention the massive hormone fluctuations that take place. Postnatal yoga is a beautiful practice leading a woman back to herself. As new mothers, I think sometimes we lose ourselves in the routine of caring for others so much so that we neglect to care for our emotional and physical well-being. Post-natal yoga incorporates movements with breath connection in a way that helps a woman reconnect to her true self while strengthening her body, relaxing areas that are overworked and fatigued all while developing a new sense of connection and purpose.
If you would like to learn more about prenatal or postnatal yoga sessions with me please DM me. Every Thursday @vasathestudio in Redlands I lead a 75 min prenatal yoga class. Sign up at www.vasaredlands.com

In the morning, when I drive, as I walk my fur babe. When I’m on my mat, in meditation. Sometimes they are short sometimes they are long. Some times it is only my breath. 🌬Air:: carry away the old and bring in the new. I welcome the winds of change. 🔥Fire:: burn away my regrets, ignite my passion and desire and ignite the light of others when they are plunged into darkness. 💧Water:: cleanse me, quench my thirst, nourish me, help me to explore the ebb and flow of my emotions and purify my thoughts. 🌎Earth:: hold me and support me as I grow strong roots so that I may rise.
There is more to yoga than making shapes with your body. It is of the mind and also the spirit. Supporting my ability to show up to life.

That so common yet so silenced experience 👩🏻‍🎓👨🏼‍🌾👩🏼‍🍳👱🏾‍♀️👵🏼👨🏽‍💼 ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
They say I have a good fantasy, yay! It’s just that it often takes me to slightly catastrophic and irrational places (according to them, but how do they see that?) ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
Sometimes I ask my partner what he’s thinking about. Last time he answered “Dolphins 🤔”. Dolphins!? I want to think about Dolphins!! So that’s my goal - having a good fantasy which takes me to awesome places 🐬 ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
Anxiety has made me more humble. More understanding. Less judgemental. Kinder. It has also forced me to practice what I needed to practice. Self-care. Self-love. Stress reduction. Mindfulness. Forgiveness. I also dream of using it to inspire and positively affect others! ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
Although I see very valuable positives, experiencing anxiety can be hard. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
So how do I deal with it?
Most importantly, I’ve sought professional help! In my own time, I try to come back to the now. I do yoga. I meditate by focusing on my breath. I become mindful of sensations, sounds and my thoughts. Sometimes I imagine breathing in peace - often in a colour (sunshine yellow, nature green, loving red or calming blue). I then imagine breathing out whatever is bringing me down. Release ❤️⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
I’m not an expert on things that help. Truth is, I’m still very much learning (except for getting enough sleep, very stubborn with my 9 hours 😉) ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
I hope your practice with Yoga Harmony also brings you back to your breath and the present moment. I hope whoever else is going through anxiety knows that you are not alone, and I encourage you to seek help, help is out there! And I hope we can all contribute to end the stigma and silence. Increase our knowledge and understanding. Help to create a #betterplace 🌎 ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
I hope my story does! ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀

With so much going on we sometimes forget to take a moment to breathe. Not a shallow breath but a deep cleansing breath that fills up your belly. Taking deep breaths is the most simplest way in drastically improving your health. Breathing deeply helps aid in stress, depression, anxiety, blood pressure, muscles relaxation, concentration, and detoxification just to name few. The breath was with us when we entered this world and it will be with us when we exit so it might be time to fall in love with our breath and connect with it. 💕
.
Quick breathing exercise:
1.Get into the belly breathing exercise position, with one hand on your stomach and one on your chest.
2.Breathe in slowly but deeply. Take 4 seconds to breathe in, feeling your stomach move in the process.
5.Hold your breath for 7 seconds.
Breathe out for 8 seconds. Once you reach a count of 8, you should have completely emptied your lungs of air.
6.Repeat as many times as you need, making sure to stick to the 4-7-8 pattern.
.
🌿 I like to add DoTerra essential oils to my breathing practice for a deeper emotional cleanse and healing. If you are interested in a oil that is pure without warning labels like all that are sold in stores contact me.

I took this upcoming New Moon in Gemini (true sidereal position) as an opportunity to transform some of the accompanying nervous mental energy into some creative energy and made this Tree of Life pendant. ✨🌳
I'm grateful that I got to work in this beautiful serene sun filled place. As some of you might now I am managing a surf camp and teaching Yoga in Le Pin Sec, France this summer. Although the workload and responsibilities are challenging at times, I feel myself growing and learning with every rotation of the sun around the earth. As the moon phases go by, so do my emotions and this proves to be difficult at times. Learning to balance as I go. To feel the mind body connection so strongly is a humbling and powerful experience and I feel grateful to be alive now. Sometimes it is okay not to know and to let go. It's okay to rest when your body asks for it and it is okay to be proud of the light you shine. It's okay to be proud of your creations and manifestations and share it with those around. It's okay to be you and completely you. It's okay to say what's on your mind and it's okay to get lost in the process every once in a while. There's a place and time for everything and it's okay sometime to do absolutely nothing. You're not here to keep busy, you're here to live and breath and share and love. You're here Now, and you will always be. 💛🙏🏽🌙✨

I enjoy the jittery, too much cold brew feeling while getting shit done and I love a good, long to do list. But, sometimes I can’t come down from this buzz unless I consciously stop, breath, and realign “my wheels.”
.

There’s always time to take a few, present breaths. There is! We just come up with silly excuses that we make ourselves believe.
.

What if once a day we paused and practiced 1 minute of alternate nostril breathing? Nadi Shodhana (clearing the channels of circulation) is my favorite pranayama practice because it balances my frenetic energy and immediately grounds me. Little teaching secret: If you’re out of whack or nervous to teach for whatever reason, do this at the beginning of class WITH your students. When I first started teaching we did tons of Nadi Shodhana together. Time to put my phone down and practice what I preach. Try it with me. Like, right now. Go ahead!
.

How:
Sit or stand. Doesn’t matter.
.
Place your left hand in your lap.
.
Rest your right hand middle & pointer
finger between your eye brows.
.
Use your thumb & index finger to alternate blocking the nostrils.
.
Plug your right nostril with your thumb
Inhale through left nostril. Hold.
.
Plug left nostril & exhale through right nostril.
.
Continue this for at least 1 minute.

When talking about arm balances one word that comes to a lot of people is show-off or ego. Just my point of view 😉

There’s an episode of Sex and the City when Charlotte asks Samantha why she’s wearing a wig in a seemingly inappropriate situation, to which Samantha responds “because my hair under it looks like shit” so here’s me pulling a Samantha teaching yoga at @deserthearts Sometimes we’ve just got to show up as we are and do the best with what we have. Teaching at this festival was such a gift. It pushed me outside of my comfort zone in huge ways- from having to navigate the drastically changing energy from day to day, to teaching people I had never met, some who had never tried yoga before, some that may have been intoxicated- it was honestly such a trip- but each class taught me so much, even from day to day I felt myself grow and expand, and what I was able to create within each class was such a reflection of that. I know how to take care of people, I know how to make people feel good, I know how to help people to heal and find clarity in their lives and I was honored to share these gifts in such a transformative and receptive environment. Gratitude doesn’t even begin to describe what I feel towards each and every person that practiced with me. Thank you from the bottom of my heart for being there. For your support, for your openness, for allowing me to guide you and to influence you- a responsibility that I do not take for granted. I don’t know how I got so lucky that this is my life. That I get to do what I love, to do what makes me feel good, and to be able to share that and teach that to others, to be received with so much love and so much gratitude is just 💖 I can’t even put into words how much it means to me. Yoga is so much more than just a physical Asana practice. Yoga is connection, Yoga is community, Yoga is self care, Yoga is right here right now in this very moment with each breath, Yoga is life. I see you and I love you 💕 Photos by @connerleephotography #yoga #deserthearts #wearealldeserthearts

My fav podcast goddess is @melissaambrosini and one thing I have really tried to take from her podcasts is how everyday Melissa and her husband Nick say three things they are grateful for. I must admit when Lukey and I really get on a roll with this something really just feels lighter and easier with life.
So as often as I can I try to remind myself and say outloud three things I am grateful for today. To be honest some days they don’t come very easily and I find myself being stuck in my own head thinking “who carrreeess or NOTHING today” and of course I know this isn’t true it’s just some days are heavier holding grief than others. Some days I am stuck in my own monkey mind and it may only be for a few hours or a few minutes or sometimes it could be a day. It’s all apart of my path now which I continue to hold gracefully as possible.
So today I am grateful for
1. This beautiful sunshine. I truly feel this time of the year is when you are most grateful for this sunshine 🌞 that sweet transitional stage of shifting seasons and shifting stagnant energy. So thank you Mother Earth! 🦋
2. Grateful for all the amazing people that came together last Saturday night for the fundraiser I put together in honor of Luna & Atlas and all the other babies gone too soon. I am still so in awe of the yoga communities compassion ✨ So beautiful to all come together with open hearts and hold beautiful space.
3. Grateful for @kelnewstead who held some rad space for me today to just breath, flow and play in the beautiful studio @powerlivingadelaide. Not to mention for this woman always taking the extra time for me whether it’s a big hug, laugh or today some yogi pics 🙊, it truly means a lot! 💕

So what three things today you’re grateful for guys?

All the time. Sometimes when I’m concentrating really hard, more often when I’m feeling anxious. With book stuff, and pre-honeymoon deadlines, and a RAGING sinus infection I just can’t kick, I haven’t been breathing very easily the past few weeks. That was highlighted in a very literal sense this morning, while I was wrapped up in an extremely wobbly Monday morning eagle pose, sweating and feeling a little lightheaded. My yoga instructor (who I love) was playing throwback Kelly Clarkson “Catch My Breath” 💁🏼‍♀️ and suddenly screams, “Listen to Kelly!! Catch your breath! You’re not breathing!” I laughed because of his delivery, and in doing so realized I had, in fact, been holding my breath. (For God knows how long. 🤷🏼‍♀️)
___
So, should you too be feeling a little short of air today, here’s your friendly reminder to make like Kelly and take a deep breath, dammit. A few simple inhales and exhales can work WONDERS. Then do something that makes you feel good. Pet a dog. Whip your hair. Eat something tiny because tiny food is cute. (I made 👶 zucchini muffins, and I love them.) ✌🏻Weird blog lady/Captain Obvious, out. #youissmart #youiskind #youisimportant

Sometimes inspiration has to be pursued. Sometimes it's tangled up with rest- both of which are just out of reach. Your creativity and your sweet dreams taunting you as they dance loose on the outside of your breastbone. Their pitter-pattering of feet stirring up some quickness of breath. So what do we do when the things we need on the inside aren't where they should be? We chase.
💫
I'm chasing inspiration, rest, and self-love all the way to Italy for a week. Terra cotta pots are calling my name, ideas need put to paper, there's a stack of books needing read, and I have antique bathtubs to fill with saltwater and tired muscles. Ya'll I'm ready to indulge and I'm eager to feel at the top of my own list. "Eat Pray Love" meets "Under the Tuscan Sun" vibes are on the way.
💫
Only TWO more chances to yoga with me this week! Thursday and Friday 9am. Then, treat yourself to yoga with @arilcarr while I'm away. She'll have you so yoga buzzed you won't care whether or not I return!

❤️
we can be scared to open up, afraid to offer it, hesitant to allow ourselves to feel it... because what if it doesn't last? sometimes we don't feel like we deserve it. we cave our chests in, hide, protect our heart space, both physically and emotionally.
💗
but if we can slowly work to soften into it, breathe, feel the beat of our own heart...we can learn to feel the hearts of others. to reach out and see how our hearts are truly attached, how we are all truly and deeply yearning for connection. how LOVE can fill us completely. how it can bind us to each other, forever.
💛
today was my last group class in a space that has been like a home to me for the last 2 1/2 years. i tried to think of how we could honor that time together, what i could say or offer or do... but in truth, there wasn't much to do at all, but practice yoga. to breathe together, invite our bodies to move together, and in that...the most powerful feeling of love was created. it was heavy in the air even after every single person left the room. a love that will never come to an end.
💙
to everyone who has ever brought their light into our yoga space, thank you. i see you, i feel you, you are part of me, you make my heart beat stronger, and you fill me with strength to continue to open.

I have always been an extrovert, and an extrovert usually loves to give and put people before them. I love people and I love to share everything I have. It makes me happy.
If you know me, you would know that I am super busy. Beside being an Army soldier once a month lol, I work full time and also go to school to be a psychiatrist. I honestly have no day off and no free time. But whenever I have a little time free, I like to spend with my friends. Dont get me wrong, I do love spending time with people.
However, I forgot to put myself first. I forgot to love and respect myself. Last year and this year have been so much of a change. I went through so much. There is so much space for growing, improving and learning. I have to learn when it is right to hold on and when it is right to let go.... Sometimes, it just takes a lot of energies to make everyone surround me happy.
So I decided to stop. I decided to choose me first for now. I recently started yoga. I want to do what makes my soul happy.
You know, it feels great to do a little yoga before school today❤️☺️
I hope that you are brave enough to choose yourself. To let go of people expectation. To breath and live. Have a good day all beautiful people😘❤️ #yoga #yogapants #yogaart #yogaeverydamnday #yogainspiration #yogagirl #selfcare #yogalife #freespirit #loveyourself #yogapose #yogaofinstagram #yogaflow #yogalifestyle #inspiration
