We took in a new patient at HESC recently, the sweetest little female Bushpig, who was not more than three months old, when she arrived.

Our centre got the call on the 29th July, that an injured bushpig had been found, and was in badly injured. Our General manager, Karen Swiegers, went to go fetch the little patient straight away.

We called in wildlife vet, Dr Peter Rogers, to take a look at her, and treat her where necessary. She had two open wounds that were visible, both on her rear, as well as on her knee, but once under sedation, it we soon learned that she also had a broken tibia bone in her back right leg too.

Doc Rogers cleaned and treated the wounds, and stapled them closed to heal, and applied a splint and bandaged to her leg. Pain medication was also administered, to help for the next few days, as it healed.

By the 31st July, (two days later), our patient was eating and drinking well, showing a healthy appetite. All signs are there of a positive recovery for this little animal. We kept her under the supervision and care of our animal hospital to keep a close eye on her.

On the 18th August, her bandage came off, and she had also showed some discomfort. Dr Rogers found an abscess on her leg which was a result of a piece of bone that must have broken off during her injury, and was now being rejected by her body. This was removed and treated accordingly.

Since then she has been going from strength to strength, and is quite vocal if she does not get her way. She lets us know very quickly if she is getting hungry before her planned feeding times, throwing little tantrums with her food bowl, it is very endearing.

From hereon we will continue to monitor her closely, until such time this lovely little bushpig is fully rehabilitated and release her back into the wild.

We will keep you updated!

I’ve burnt my hands, broken my fingers, and superglued my knee together after splitting it open (works pretty well). I can tell you first hand that injuries - even small ones mess up flow and efficacy in the kitchen. Even sleeping funny, I can only turn my neck left and not right. 😏 (reminds me of a gimp trout that had a cataract in one eye that I caught by hand but that’s a different story)...
One of my goals this summer is to prepare for the demanding physical needs of the kitchen. Picking up boxes from slippery floors and weird angles, crawling into tight attics, farmers-carrying pigs heads through the dining room. A big thanks to Josh Fan @jwafan for the functional strength and little known exercises he’d send from NY to get me stronger and prevent me from injury.

More on furthermore.equinox website “Master the Summer” @furthermore @allbirds @equinox I don’t have a ton of insight ... but you should eat some tacos

I never regret picking up a skateboard, fact is if I never would’ve who knows where I’d be in life today. Although skateboarding can be one of the most painful and frustrating activities out there it is also one the most rewarding in life. It taught me determination, confidence, courage and a certain mental toughness that I believe you cannot get from anywhere else. Skateboarding gave me the opportunity to explore the world around me and see it as no one else could. It rewarded me with friendships and comraderies that will last a lifetime and that are unbreakable. For many, skateboarding has catapulted us to a level we never thought of or could've even imagined. It has turned us into artists, musicians, film makers, photographers, actors, entrepreneurs and has allowed us to dream bigger than anything in life. It’s funny how a piece of wood with grip tape and four wheels can change so much, ease so much pain during rough patches and even be part of the biggest happiness in your life. Every bruise, every bump, every broken bone and every injury is accompanied with stories that will never be forgotten and will be told until our last breath; some happy some sad. So even though my right knee hasn’t allowed me to skate like I use to I will always consider myself a skater. Because when I hop onto that beat up worn out board of mine and I ride down the driveway to my street and close my eyes the world around me feels complete; it feels right. #fromwhereistand #milehighclub #canon_official #denvertography #denver #ColoradoCameraClub #CityOfDenver #303magazine #303photos #MileHighAlumni #theyshootn #skatelife #skateboarding #love #thankyouskateboarding #DTS www.raymontes.com

If your forearms or grip fatigue during your back, biceps or shoulder workouts, always wear wrist straps. I have broken my wrists and torn the tendons in them too so I rely on @gymreapers wraps and straps when training upper body for support and assisted strength. I also like to wear knee wraps, elbow sleeves and a belt but only on my heavier sets as I don’t want to become reliant and lazy. Accessories are great to use for support, injury prevention and to take your workouts to the next level. If you are following my new 8 Week Muscle Building Video Trainer on www.kagedmuscle.com and you feel fatigue, inflammation, and a little delicate, I suggest you try them yourself. Be warned, when the DTP hybrids set in during the latter half of this video series, you’ll be glad you did. #kagedmuscle #gymreapers #musclebuildingplan #fatloss #bodybuilding #krisgethin

You are the thing holding yourself back when it comes to being injured. 99% of injuries happen because of being uneducated in movement in and out of the gym/field. The most beneficial thing I ever did as a bodybuilder was to actually read material from Stu McGilll (a spine specialist... the spine specialist), @mobilitywod (CrossFit/sports physical therapist, and @cal.dietz (strength and conditioning coach for the U of Minn). Let’s be clear only training like a bodybuilder, a cross fitter, a power lifter or even a sports specific athlete will train you to be good at those things alone. Sometimes you need to incorporate different training styles to balance you out. Which could get rid of that knee pain caused by a quad compensating for your psoas.

🔸Nobody Can Fix Me🔸 .
🔸I Choose to Retake Control🔸
.
.
🔴People often turn to us feeling frustrated, defeated, and unsure of their future. Many have been to various medical professionals, and have tried every option they can afford to treat their pain and injuries… all without significant long-term improvement. .
.
🔴We see the recovery process starting with a mindset shift. Moving away from the idea that “I am broken” or “Nobody can fix me” and slowly starting to consider it from a different point of view… Taking full responsibility for your body, for your actions, for your daily decisions. We teach people how to care for themselves. Rather than being reliant on someone else to “fix” them, they become independent, confident and knowledgeable participants in their own health. Fear, anxiety and worry are replaced with motivation, hope and determination. .
.
🔴Through our own experiences with injury and recovery we’ve learned that the very things that fill us with fear, worry, and pain are often the things that inspire growth, strength and transformation. I’ve experienced this first hand in my own recovery and as a member of the MoveU Program. As part of the MoveU Team I now have the pleasure of encouraging and teaching others to achieve the same. .

Damaged knee cartilages, torn meniscus, sprained joints, bone bruises, concussions, grade 3 ac separation (right shoulder), surgeries, arthritis, turf toe, you name it! Everything but a broken bone?!?! Be careful what you wish for right?!? Haha. I’d be in so much pain from some of these injuries, and then realize that pain is only temporary. It’s not REAL! You learn to recover and work on your weaknesses while your strengths heal. You realize that pain is but a learning lesson because physical pain is just a GLIMPSE of what REAL pain is like. It’s nothing compared to the pain that LIFE can actually inflict on you. Then, it happens, LIFE hits you with the meanest, nastiest, hardest blow you’ll ever feel...Unfortunately, there is no recovery protocol for this pain. No doctor or specialist that can help you, and there is no recommended time table set in place to let your body & mind heal. You just deal...”But grief is a walk alone. Others can be there, and listen. But you will walk alone down your own path, at your own pace, with your sheared-off pain, your raw wounds, you denial, anger, and bitter loss. You'll come to your own peace, hopefully, but it will be on your own, in your own time.” - CL:

I know doesn’t sound like a big deal but it’s a huge deal when it happens to you. I was terrified, I had never been injured, I don’t play sports the worst pain I’d experience was sprained ankle (or 20). When my knee swelled up to the size of a small watermelon and the pain was beyond excruciating I was terrified that of all things, I would never walk in heels again. It was a long healing process, I had to wear a very unglamorous, bulky brace for months, to this day when I see someone with a knee brace on I have a mini panic attack it is traumatizing. For 2 months I was in a wheelchair to minimize the risk of re-injury and everywhere I went people looked at me as though I wanted to be in that chair. I hated it, I couldn’t wait to get out but part of me was scared I never would. I was not disabled but I felt broken. It didn’t help my mental state either, imagine spending most of the summer propped up and unable to do much. I did physical therapy and by the grace of God the therapist assessed me and discovered that I hadn’t lost (much) of my range of motion. It felt like I had lost it entirely to me. It took a few months but, eventually I got my full range of motion back, no more braces, no more wheelchair just the ability to finally walk in heels. It seems trivial but I was so proud to walk in them again. I’ll never forget this day 8 years ago but I’m so grateful to be where I am now. When I felt like it was the end of the world, it was only the beginning. 💁🏼‍♀️

It's not too bad and I can somewhat decently hobble on it (thanks to two unbelievably icy winters on crutches with a broken leg) but it is actual agony all the way down to my toes. Back to the hospital tomorrow for a more thorough investigation because my knee is clearly doing something super funky (what the fuck is the angle on that thing right now) and it's making the pain SO MUCH WORSE and sometimes, depending on the severity, these things need surgery to correct. This is a no good, very bad day.

New cast, who dis? ⚡️ The last week has been tough — I’m finally feeling well enough to be bored and antsy, but still not strong enough to do very much for very long; despite the endless hospital stays and surgeries and ongoing pain, I haven’t mentally acclimated to not being ‘myself’. It’s weird — I’ve never had an injury like this. When I break, I tear muscle and cartilage. I dislocate hips, bend knees, sprain soft tissue. The worst broken bone I’ve ever had prior to this was my collar bone in 2015, and I even avoided that bullet for an abnormal length of time thanks to a weird milk habit and stupidly strong bones. But we all break, and this one was a long time coming — I’ve gotten really lucky. I mean, REALLY lucky. So lucky, in fact, that for a while I wondered if I would escape mostly unscathed (other than the combined joint, tissue and concussion damage) and if I could live by the saying of “better to be lucky than good”... But running out of luck and talent eventually happens to all of us. Age, wear and tear, exhaustion and just plain gravity all work against us, as do increasingly fast speeds, bigger risks, sketchier mistakes. We start thinking that maybe we’re the invincible one. The perhaps WE are the one who can go all the way... But after a season full of dirt-eating, I realized that I am decidedly human. Maybe it’s the monotony of hospital visits and casts and insurance issues. Perhaps it was the battles with doctors for proper care that finally did it, or putting in Olympic-sized efforts just to deal with normal, every day tasks. Maybe it was realizing that my cats won’t ever be able to grocery shop for me, or that injuries like this are often life-altering and debilitating... But whatever it was, I’m really hoping I learned my lesson. My body needs me to have learned this lesson. Because I DID get lucky as hell this time. Again. I got lucky that I still have ankle movement, against all fucking odds. I got lucky I have sensation in my foot. I got lucky I didn’t blow my knee or my hip or my back (or all three). I got lucky to be evacuated by people who care and then by folks who love me. And that’s enough. Luck is enough.⚡️ #notdead

For those of you who comment and question about my knee-
I was born with a very rare birth defect called hypo plastic patella (under developed knee caps). I was eight when my knee first “popped” in and out of place. Fast forward to my 20s when I had a reconstructive surgery, in which i didn’t know till many years later, was not properly done. Surgeons are not very educated in this because it is so rare. To get to the point, my knee is basically not wound up tightly enough together and i have no knee cap. So, when you see a weird scar, lump, deformity, and my leg not completely straight in certain poses- that’s why 😬
I’m happy with my body the way that it is. It’s something I’ve learned to live with and appreciate. It’s how I found yoga. I was lost sad and broken when I stepped on to my mat. I was triple the size I am now unhealthy and could barely walk - let alone stand on my hands. So when I hear someone can’t do yoga because of an injury I show them the magic of this practice. It’s for EVERY BODY. 💕 📷 @emilycarolynrowe •

The end of July was the 12 week marker after I fell downhill and injured my left knee with a patella bone bruise fracture. Two doctors told me it would take 4-12 months to heal. Time is the only option for healing a bone bruise. No surgery or brace will help. One doctor told me my bone was continuously bleeding for the first month of injury. An open wound, inside my bone, under my flesh. I couldn’t feel the lower half of my leg in space, I had no proprioception, my leg was numb, knocked out, asleep. I couldn’t walk, stand, sit, work, skate, dance, kneel, bend my leg, straighten my leg, walk up or down stairs, lay on my stomach, wear jeans, or have pressure on my knee, even the weight of a blanket was excruciating. All I could do was swim and lay with a king size pillow under my leg. At this point last year I remember the sinking feeling I had looking at my leg and noticing my muscle atrophying. Something like going to the grocery store and doing laundry were all day events. These were huge accomplishment for me. My life revolved around physical therapy, laundry, cooking, cleaning, and grocery shopping. Those chores took up my whole week and drained all my energy. I tried to hide the amount of pain I was in because I wanted to be normal. Besides when you looked at my leg it’s not like you saw a huge scar, so how could something under my skin hurt so much and be so debilitating? I truly had no idea when I would feel strong again. I went to physical therapy 2-3 times a week for 6 months. It took 8 months for me to be able to walk up the stairs again and 10 months to walk down them. Slowing down and focusing on every tiny movement has only made me stronger in a more controlled way. I often wonder where I’d be if I never experienced this. A humbling situation I had to fight and stay healthy through. Having no choice but to sit and think about your life really allows you to focus on what’s important. Being broken shows you who really wants to help lift you up. My strength is back. I’m proud of how far I’ve overcome this debilitating injury. I will preserve with grace through every battle I face.

Anyone had any bad injuries or broken any bones? 🤕 Let me know! I have lmao
-
I broke my elbow when I was 5 and was very close to damaging/losing the nerves in my right arm. This I just wasn’t too bad, as bad as it sounds lmao.
-
My worst injury, that I still suffer with today, happened when I was playing football - I was a goalkeeper for 8 years and this injury took me out of football.
-
I basically twisted my left ankle about 50-60 degrees and back again within a split second. This happened twice within 2 weeks. Doctors never listened to me and after a year - yes a year - doctors finally referred me to physiotherapy and they told me that I had a 3rd degree sprain (ligaments got completely torn in half) which is worse than a break.
-
I also got told than I had flat feet, which I don’t have anymore, and extremely tight hamstrings that could snap at any moment. The flat feet and bad hamstrings basically cause my knee joints to pop out of their sockets instead of rolling with the socket like they’re supposed to
-
All in all, I have a body of a 70 year old and I’m only 20 🤦🏽‍♀️😂

This is Lenny, seeing here greeting his team after anchoring Canada to third place in a team relay. Lenny has been through more than most of us. He’s had more injuries and sicknesses than I can name. He’s had even more people who don’t believe in him and tell him that he can’t. Well one thing that I have learned is to never count Lenny out... ever. .
.
.
He’s raced with a hand cast, broken vertebrae, hurt knee, herniated disc, and pneumonia. He’s raced with severe asthma his entire career. But never count Lenny out. .
.
.
This ocean loving, thrill seeking, kind hearted man has stood on the podium 7 times. He has broken the best male sprint record at the Olympics (7th place) with a broken vertebrae, herniated disc and hardly training due to injury. Not to mention that he never speaks badly about anyone, cheers people up and always sticks up for others. .
.
.
This is what we can learn from Lenny. Don’t let anyone tell you that you can’t. Don’t let anyone tell you to change. Don’t let anyone steal your love of life. Don’t let them count you out! 📷: Fischer/NordicFocus

This is my 3 months transformation.
.
3 months ago I had a knee surgery - broken my crucial ligament and meniscus.
But I am not that type for complaining - after 1 week I was back in the gym, for light upperbody training.
After 3 weeks I started with leg training again. I lost a lot of mass in the past months (I had the knee injury almost 8 months)
I wanted my legmass back.
The recovery went so well.
- now 3 months later - my legs are much better and I am stronger than before! More motivated than ever 💪🏼 Because if you wanted so much and you work so hard, you will get it!
But I am not there - this is just the beginning 😁

I can't find the words , I still feel like I am just in the nightmare and will wake up with having everything fine ! But unfortunately it is not a nightmare ! Due the second moto at the MXGP of Russia I have touched the ground by my left foot ! I still tried to finish the moto , but I felt like my stability in the knee is completely gone and I was forced to pull out from the moto! I have done a few scans in Moscow and didn't get any good results !
-torn ACL - both meniscus snapped - broken talus in the ankle
I'll need to do the surgery on my knee and fix all the things , but due the talus problem , it looks like I'll need to wait a little , before the doctor can make my knee !
It's a massive bummer for me as I just started to get myself consistently up front with the top guys after a long recovery from a massive shoulder injury and now out of racing again! I know ,it is also a frustration for all my team , Yamaha and all the sponsors , but I feel a massive support from them and from all of you guys , who is there , watching and supporting me ! It’s less likely if you’re standing still but if you’re participating in a violent collusion sport then your chances are much higher. I played from 6yrs old to 29. It was some of the best moments of my life and lead me to meeting some of the greatest people in my life. That being said my body certainly paid the price. You’re body may be strong, but will crack when a 330 lb grown man runs through your knee with his helmet. I’m not tough and I’ve learned that pain is not fun. Anyone who’s ever experienced REAL pain will tell you that pain sucks and the do not have a high threshold for pain. That statements reserved for the ones who have manageable pain. The only way to prepare your body for the demand of sport or even life is to strengthen it as much as possible. 5 yrs ago I was told to back off of training and I needed a knee replacement. There are many athletes, soldiers, and accident victims who are dealing with much worse. However, I went through a difficult time and became depressed. I didn’t want to accept it. I decided to strengthen and modify lifts as opposed to giving them up. I spent months in the hospital and hundreds of hrs in rehab. Here are a list of a few injures/surgeries.
ACL, meniscus, metal removed from eye, carpal tunnel band cut, 2nd meniscus surgery, broken arm, broken wrist, broken ankle, hernia screen Lt side, hernia screen right side, dislocated shoulder, cracked knuckle, torn thumb socket, 17 staples in head, MRSA infection in knee, knee flush, knee screws, wore a PICC line for 6 months, Jones fracture, 3rd meniscus, L3-L4-L5 rupture. Im in pain every single day. Some days worse than others. I’m 41 yrs old and will tell you that training and movement are the only things that help me feel better. An injury does not mean the end. It means that a fix will require time, great effort, and consistency. I’ve rehabbed back every single time. Find a Dr, trainer, PT, TEAM you believe in and can help you along the journey. Don’t let an injury keep you from doing the things you love. #injuries #sugery #sports #doctor #trainer #rehab @anatomy @melanietillbrook

On another note, the good news is that some injured players who missed time in the spring are on the field at the onset of camp. Quarterback Carson Wentz is practicing and taking part in limited activities. Middle linebacker Jordan Hicks, returning from a torn Achilles tendon, has been given the green light to practice. Left tackle Jason Peters missed most of last season with a knee injury, but now he’s on the field and looking great. Same with running back Darren Sproles, who suffered a torn ACL and a broken wrist in the Week 3 victory over the New York Giants at Lincoln Financial Field.

Any one item has been know to break up a marriage.
We have been through being broken, broke, and homeless.

Lived in a small hotel room with 300 SQ feet as a family of 4.

We have lost everything that belong to us... And even the basics .... My husband lost his ability to walk for 2 years due to his MS and started working out on his knees.

We gained over 280 lbs between the two of of {I gained 180 lbs due to stress and how we dealt with it). 2 years ago this month, my husband nearly died due to a double infection and we took on 100k in debt to save his life

I had a massive knee injury with a 2 year recovery.

Last winter I got shingles on my face, blind for 30 days, gained 20 lbs in a week

We lost each other, couldn't even talk to each other or I would begin to unload and blame him for everything and he had constant guilt over all we had been through.

Somehow we always found a way. Made a way. When things got tough we find ways to turn things around.

We have an incredible belief in each other and are blessed to have a few around us that believe as well.

We have done it all together. Not always happy. But we pull through.

We could have also done nothing.

That is not how we roll. When things go wrong we find a way. We refuse to get knocked down or kicked when we are down.

I am so glad we have gone through the good and the bad together. All we wanted to do was find a way to be successful business partners with each other. We have worked hard at it to make it all happen again.

We continue to work on our relationship. There are scars... There is history. But it is ours and we work, fight, love, fall, pick back up together.

The last few months my body has not been kind to me. I have fought some tough, long, and grueling health battles. 🤕🤢😷 Stomach bugs to 2 cases of the flu to a knee injury and multiple episodes of pink eye, are just to name a few. Not even to mention my ever loving tachycardia issues. 💓💔💓 Sometimes the good Lord has strange ways of us teaching lessons and leading us towards paths that we might not even envision for ourselves. The lesson I am learning in this season is to rest, recover, and reflect. I am not very good at any of the 3, yet I am trying my damnedest to implement them into my life.
.
I have been forced to slow down and be still. My body has required of me to simply {R E S T.} My whole body, my whole essence, needs to recover from a tough year filled with heavy decisions, broken relationships, intense workloads, failed leadership, and illness after illness. Needless to say, my body and mind is sick and tired of being sick and tired. .
So, the past few months I have had to learn what exactly does {R E S T} mean for my body, my mind, and my life.
.
(1) .television. I have learned that netflixing/amazoning/huluing is absolutely a beautiful way to rest and take your mind and body away from its current state, giving it a true break from reality. No shame in the game. 💥
.
(2) .sleep. I have learned that gaining tools to make sleep better has been absolutely necessary for me. Life truely improved when I invested into my sleep. From purchases like my amazing shredded memory foam bamboo pillows to a sleep tracker and essential oils! As well as, learning about sleep and how exactly it is good for my body and mind. All those things and more have made me sleep better and longer. 💤
.
(3) .space. I have learned that it is OK to take space from people, even people you love. Getting room to be alone and to be with yourself as you are is essential to resting. 🚀

What doesn’t kill you will only make you stronger if it motivates you to focus and work harder on your goals. Four years ago to the day, I swerved my bike to avoid hitting a car door and ended up breaking a bone in my shoulder. I was training with friends for the 545 mile #aidslifecycle charity ride from SF to LA. I had 6 weeks after the fracture to recover before the start of the ride, so I got an indoor bike trainer and trained with my broken shoulder in a sling. 6 weeks wasn’t enough time to fully recover so I had to do the ride the following year. While my friends were biking to LA, I focused on fitness. Heavy squats helped complete the PT for an old knee injury and allowed me to run without pain. 16 months after I started running again, I achieved my 2:59 marathon goal. 30 months after the shoulder fracture, I swam 2.4 miles, biked 112 miles and ran a marathon to complete an #ironman triathlon.
Adversity will break you out of a comfort zone, but it’s up to you to reevaluate whether you are making progress on your goals or just letting them slip away. It’s going to be painful and hard either way, but you’ll forget the pain and only be left with satisfaction if you focus on achieving your goals.

Blessed to be here on the fitness stage over 2 decades later after going through a life of struggle, after gaining 85pds while pregnant, moved across country, running my own business, raising my son, got diagnosed with degenerating disc disease and a bulging disc of 5 mm, been living with hypo-Thyroidism disease for 15yrs, Shoulder injury, knee injury, and 2 broken feet later I’m still here I’m still fighting, I’m still showing the world anything is possible if you just believe in yourself and do everything that you need to do to get to where you want to be.
Tomorrow I pray that GOD is with me to make sure all my hard work shows up on stage, all the hrs of practice on my routine, all my endless hrs of Jump sessions, my death training sessions with @milossarcev, my holidays and weekends spent with @oksanagrishina for choreography, all my endless hrs of posing sessions, my no carb days and my time away from my son, @ashkan_shahniani and my Warriors⚔️
I pray that it’s an on day for me and I just do my very best and that’s all I can hope for. God may you please keep my nerves clam and my energy high.
Thank U🙏😇. None of this is EASY but WORTH IT!

Day 77/80 - - - Legs - how much stronger I feel - totally amazing - but then again not really
This exercise is one of my favorites but we haven’t done it since month 1 - I’m using heavier weights and really focused on the muscle you use to come up - hamstrings and butt - I go SLOWER than the video so that I can really FEEL the muscles I should be working

Sometimes we’re in a rush and that usually leads to injuries especially at my age 😳
Injuries - let’s talk about those - if you follow me then you KNOW I’ve had my share
What to do? QUIT and do NOTHING
OR
ASSESS and do something - WHAT can you workout?

I’ve modified this 80 day program, I’ve subbed out different exercises, broken up compound moves, skipped some exercises, and subbed out different workouts - all in the effort of continuing and just moving forward in whatever THAT looks like for me.
I encourage YOU to do the same - just because you have tendonitis, or a knee injury, or a shoulder injury doesn’t mean you can do absolutely nothing - there is always SOMETHING you CAN do - you just have to be open to finding it and trying different things -
Being OPEN to finding solutions - is a key to improving your health - there’s always a solution out there waiting for you…
