Today I didn’t feel like being inside in a gym so I came home and did a home workout 🙈 I actually forgot what it was like to #sweat like a 🐷 with a good old HIIT session 😌
I did a #HIIT circuit with sprints, body weight push up, burpees, high knees & various ab exercises to finish off with 💪🏼 As you can see, it was a pretty good working out as I burned 700+ calories!
Feeling so much better after a good workout and I didn’t need to be inside the gym to do it 😎🙌🏼👌🏼

Ive lost some weight- 8lbs to be exact.
Dropping meat & Dairy was a big chunk of calories, a long with a big life changer.
You will never hear me demand or force my decisions on you.
I chose this route for many reasons. Love, ethics, morals, beliefs, health, and above all....... makes me happy & feel better. That alone should bring praise & joy to others.... instead I get Critism, down talk, judment, etc..... like my nearly decade of health/fitness hasn’t given me creditability 😴. The best part is I hear down talk because I’ve lost some size. People are surrounded by over weight people daily and don’t inform them of it... thats the society we live in. I haven’t counted my macros , I recently just started again. I recently took 2 weeks off from training, now I feel I’m ready to start prepping up (still jacked too🕺🏻).
Energy/metabolism/digestion all have made this process even better. Recently Turning 30 has made me feel 20.
I highly recommend all of you to research and educate yourself. Learn what foods work and why they do. Listen to your body and the symptoms it gives you because it has wonderful communication. The problem is most people ignore them and put them in the back burner.
With all that being said..... smile more and give the love you want back to all life. I would of never imagined myself going down this path, but I’m very happy I did. This didn’t happen by accident. Feel free to message if you got any questions. I know many want to know what the hype is 😂 I didn’t offer before because I wasn’t ready. I’ve got a nice routine down. Anyway, it can often be hard to choose an option that’s way to make with just a microwave that’s not a ton of calories and has a decent amount of protein...well I found this beauty in Asda - 44g of protein and less than 500kcals.

Now I appreciate that a chicken madras ready meal is definitely not the “healthiest” option 🙄

Then all of a sudden we reach a point where our weight loss suddenly hits a dead stop.

The scale isn't budging & the mirror isn't telling us much either, feels like someone's pulled up the hand break.

You sit back & think what am I doing wrong? .
We know that as we progress eventually weight loss stalls.

And what most people do is drop more calories or increase activity to get the process going again.

You've added more cardio or dropped more calories & still nothing.

But before you know it all of a sudden out of the blue, BOOM you see a weight drop.

What happens here sometimes is what is called the "Whoosh" affect, (Discovered & covered very much in depth by Lyle McDonald).

This happens because when you've lost a substantial amount of weight the fat that has been burnt & left the fat cells gets refilled with water.

But this is only temporary.

When the water eventually leaves the fat cells, this is when we see a sudden drop in weight.

This isn't always the case, but it’s something to consider when your weight loss stalls.

The "Whoosh" affects tends to mostly affect people who suffer from water retention.

This affects women even more so than men.
.
So the more you control your water retention, the lesser of a chance you'll experience the "Whoosh".

So before you make drastic changes to your diet, training or even think your body is broken.

It could just be that the "Whoosh" hasn’t happened yet.

Regardless of whether it’s junk food or fruit, how much sugar is already in your blood will determine how the body uses sugar. If you already have a lot of sugar in your system, then what you just ate will be stored as either fat or glycogen, which is glucose stored in muscles that’s used for quick energy. While going with fruit or veggies is a much better option, you still have to be mindful of your intake of each in relation to your activity in the day. Big shoutout to my online client @martyn_paterson_3112 who signed up for the TJP Photoshoot Challenge with me back in February.

Having a background in high level athletics he was already accustomed to training with intensity and was in great condition, but wanted to add some lean mass to his frame.
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
The key to this prep was striking a balance with maintaining a lean body composition, whilst ramping calories up as high as possible to maximise growth with minimal fat gain.
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
Eating as much as 4,200 calories per day at a bodyweight of 11st7 just showed the level of intensity in which he was training at and also his expenditure out of the gym.
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
The final 4 weeks saw a reduction in intake, but output remained high bringing his best physique to date.
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
The added muscle and overall strength which he gained in this relatively short prep is going to set him in great stead as we move into a massing phase.

So 16 weeks ago leading up to my holiday in Florida I decided I needed a challenge and a goal to work towards.

I have lifted weights for the last 2 years and although I have a good knowledge of what I need to be doing in and out of the gym, and what I need to be doing nutritionally, sometimes you get stuck in a rut doing the same routine and eating the same way and this is the position I found myself in. ⠀

Under the guidance of @grahamhurstbodycomp , who I would now like to call a mate, I have managed to add on some good quality muscle and managed to lean out and get in the shape of my life to date. I’ve really become the health junky lately! So is anyone down to go hiking with me!?! Lol Nah but on a serious note, I’ve been counting my calories! TRUST ME IT WORKS! I’ve been taking supplements and eating high protein, Low Carb & essentially clean! I’ve been working on keeping a constant gym schedule😁 At the moment rn I’m doing an 8 week summer shredding challenge... it’s been killing me emotionally, mentally and physically. But I’m ACTUALLY SEEING RESULTS! So I’m planning to make a video on my YT channel! How I went from 200lbs to ???? (Mystery). I CANT WAIT TO SHARE MY JOURNEY!
Lastly I’ve been craving going on adventures lately! Like the zoo, the beach, THE PARK... DOWNTOWN!!! SOMETHING! I’ve been wanting to just let loose and have fun. Someday something will come to me!

Here is what I do a few times a day. I put 2 1/2 cups of old fashioned oats into some water, microwave for 3 minutes. Mix it with cinnamon and a tiny bit of vanilla coffee creamer, maybe a stevia or two, I put some like 10 ounces of water in the blender and 2.25 scoops of Now brand 100% whey #protein isolate ... I take a giant tablespoorn and a half of extra virgin olive oil for my fat, and enjoy the delicious shake which could not be healthier and better tasting. Obviously take out creamer and sweeteners, without those the shake comes to around 575 calories total but great calories. .

Lots of different approaches tried but we finally found one that actually suited me and I have @spearmanchris to thank for that! On the left honestly you would not believe it but but I actually starved myself enjoyed training but never really followed a plan and then just binged on a Saturday because I told myself I had deserved it because I tried so hard in the week ... the right I eat pretty much 4000 calories a day, able to have a social life and pretty much happy all the time. It’s not been an easy transition with lots of different people telling me different things, lots of methods tried from high protein, low carb to low calories and every white fish and greens but nothing suited my lifestyle. What’s the point in doing something you can’t stick to. I go out three or four times a week for food, have two free evenings a week and pretty much do half the cardio I use to! First, let’s break down what the ‘metabolism’ is. This is the energy break down of all the mechanical reactions going on in the body…digestion, chemical bonds breaking, breathing, basically everything your body does to keep you alive.

No "healthier" then good old cookies WITH gluten. Organic cookies are ALSO still cookies. It doesn't matter if you spend your whole paycheck at Whole Foods, shop local or buy high end groceries- if you consume calories above and beyond what you expend each day, you won't lose weight.

4- Fat (adipose tissue) and muscle mass are two totally different things. One cannot become the other. That's like saying you can make an apple become a banana. It's ridiculous. This myth seems to have gained popularity because it leads people to believe they can lose fat and gain muscle simultaneously. Unfortunately, it is almost impossible to achieve both goals at the same time- reason being that in order to maintain an environment in your body that facilitates fat burn, you must deplete yourself of calories. Growth, on the other hand requires extra calories, much like you'd need extra building material to add a room to your house. You can't be in a deficit AND a surplus at once. So while you can lose fat or build muscle, you can't turn fat into muscle. It's a misnomer.

Do me a favor. Go to @google and type in ‘cyclists legs’ 🚴‍♀️ and click images. Have a good look at their body composition. Tell me if you think they suffer from losing quality muscle due to cardio? 🤨 Nope.

Oh...wait, you wanna know about marathon runners? Please spare me the judgmental comments about their bodies. Yes, they are lean. We know that. Have a look at the top competitors and how much muscle definition they have in their legs. Of course they aren’t going to pack on heaps of muscle like bodybuilders. That would drastically effect their performance. They still maintain visible and strong muscle fiber for the sport they compete in.

If your goal is to pack on slabs of muscle, get ridiculously strong and spend the absolute minimum amount of time needed to maintain a somewhat ‘lean’ physique, with no care about strengthening your heart/cardiovascular health - then yea, skip the extra cardio and try not to eat too many calories.👌🏼

Just don’t make false claims that doing cardio will make you lose your chances of gaining muscle and make you fat. That ain’t the truth.

There’s a certain threshold that anyone has due to heightened stress, hormones, lack of sleep, nutrition...etc that has the potential cause an increase in cortisol levels - along with lots of other negative side effects. Let’s not isolate the issue to an added level of cardiovascular health. Come on people.

I prefer a good balance of cardio, strength, hypertrophy and high intensity training in my regime. Do what you like. Remember that others may not like what you like.

I gained over 40 pounds REALLY fast, even though my lifestyle didn’t change and my diet didn’t worsen. I was actually eating healthier than previous years! I tried to further restrict my diet/calories and work out, but nothing worked. People without this problem never understood! I couldn’t stand hearing their suggestions anymore because I was still gaining every week. My energy levels were non existent and yet I couldn’t get a good nights sleep, ever. (Sleep is still a struggle for me) I had inflammation and joint pain ALL the time. Also an inability to regulate my body temperature, being freezing cold and then suddenly hot flashes that felt like I was having a fever out of nowhere. Depression is also a big symptom of the disease and that’s still something I am working on. I kept a daily journal of all the symptoms I was experiencing and I did that for almost 2 years! I was so desperate to find something to help myself and ta-da! Kambo came into my life. I thought it might be too good to be true but after my first treatment I already felt so many benefits and saw a change in my health and even mental health too. The combination of Kambo treatments and switching to a plant based diet has seriously saved me. I was so miserable with the pains and fatigue all the time. Even though I still have a lot to figure out with my body, I feel happy that I’ve recovered to this point. I finally feel like I see progress and am happy to keep pushing forward. Now both breakfasts are certainly healthy food choices but there’s a massive difference in cals, fat and carbs! Be mindful of what you are eating. Weight loss is not complicated, you simply have to burn more calories than you consume. Whether that’s a low carb diet, six meals a day, 3 meals a day, intermittent fasting. Whatever - you simply have to make sure that your BMR + calories burned during exercise of greater than what you consume.

With instruction from a few people who’s fitness opinion I really respect, I’m attempting a new diet regimen with a major increase in protein (something I don’t normally gravitate toward). Over the weekend I made a little afternoon football watching snack.

Stuffed mini portobellos with ground turkey breast, rondelé (yes, the prepackaged cheese spread because it’s super delicious), onion, spinach, garlic, salt and pepper. Brown the turkey first and add in the rest of the ingredients. Stuff into hallowed mushrooms and bake at 400f for 15 minutes. Topped with Gouda at the end. I estimated these to have about 18 grams of protein in each and I ate 4! I’m going to be so buff here pretty soon...

Lately, I have been doing 2 cardio sessions almost daily 1-hour each and 1-2 weight training sessions.

My shape is improving drastically, but my body has also adapted to burning 1200 calories per hour in my Cardio.

My last fast was 7 days long and I did 2-3 training sessions (weights and Cardio) almost daily.

For this fast, I will only be drinking water, almost all of it Distilled water, no food, or liquid calories, no fake sugars or supplements. Only Multivitamins.

With this fast, I will be doing less cardio - only 3-4 cardio sessions (as opposed to 10-12 sessions) in a week and 7-10 weight training sessions.

I am starting today. I had one Carb meal this morning. The next meal with be the morning of 8th or 11th day.

I will share the results when I finish. Stay tuned.

In the past, I used to perform LISS/HIT training for 45 minutes, then do a heavy weight training session with about 12 different movements. I ate only ~1000-1200 calories total each day. So in terms of training, that meant I essentially canceled out my calories and depleted myself of nutrients ... all because I feared how my body would change after quitting gymnastics — a size I thought would be beautiful. •

Today, I don’t know if i will get the gym as I have other prior commitments .. and I’m okay with that, whereas the past self would be freaking out all day. I make the choice to hit the gym or be active without feeling the obsession of slavery. When it comes to calories, I consume approximately the amount of calories I used to eat per day in my first two meals. I no longer worry if I burn those calories away. •

The change? the change was both by the grace of God and by taking action. I think we are so quick to wish we’d see change and be set free from the entanglements and lies and bad habits that enslave us without actually changing anything.
Maybe you binge or emotionally eat. Maybe you starve yourself. Maybe you measure your worth by what you see on the scale or what size you buy at the store. •
A word of encouragement for you ... I learned that if I don’t change anything, nothing will change. This isn’t an earn freedom kind of thing. It’s an exercise the freedom you already have kind of thing. So if you’ve struggled with disordered eating or body dysmorphia in whatever way, I dare you to call it out, write down what needs to change, and commit to making one of those changes at a time, one week at a time. Love your body enough to take care of it. •

Your body is a temple, not a trophy. And only YOU get to decide what lens you’ll look through, and to be truly free of obsessive thinking and body insecurities. You have to look at fitness / health / diet as part of your self CARE, not part of your self WORTH. 👊🏼❤️

Those “quick fixes” or “magic pills” just aren’t realistic or healthy for that matter. You’ll end up losing mostly water weight, or be forced in to a diet that just isn’t realistic to maintain. Diets where you eat a crazy low amount of calories, or ONLY one particular food group are not sustainable and your body will resist you, and you’ll end up gaining more weight after. DONT TRY TO CHEAT THIS PROCESS! It will only harm you. If you do it right, from the beginning, you CAN learn how to maintain lifelong habits, and understand what being healthy and balanced really means. You’ll have bad days and good days-of course! But dont look for the easy way out-because there isn’t one. Lifestyle changes in diet and exercise are the key to success in this journey. Nothing worth having comes easy, and this lifestyle journey is worth more than a quick fix. ❤️❤️

You’ve probably noticed that more & more health professionals are recommending training & nutrition as a massive tool in preventing, managing & even resolving lots of common (physical & mental) health issues. This is great, & a massive plus of having social media, which I commonly bash for its negatives.

These three points are fantastic to highlight. They all enhance each other, & facilitate bettered physical & mental health. They create positive feedback loops, rather than the negative ones anyone suffering with mental health can identify easily when they are feeling good & thinking clearly.

I know that for me, varied nutrition, activity & proper rest (without phone/emails/social media) go out the window in quick succession. This is me losing control of the environment I can control, & mismanaging my physical & mental resilience to issues/problems life throws up.

Any training, any activity, enforcing a balanced, stereotypically healthy diet (forgetting calories) & meditating &/or reading as my rest. If you get this foundation back, you’ll find you get a routine back, you’ll get more regimented & better quality sleep, & you’ll start feeling more like yourself again.

I’m starting group classes for anxiety next week, recommended by my GP. Then soon CBT. I’m terrible at taking my own advice, & am still privately embarrassed to require this help, but it’s 100% better than hiding your mental health. Xo

I snack a lot, I like snacks, who doesn’t? And chocolate, well, don’t get me started 🍫🙊 While my meals are healthy and nutritious, I need to be more mindful of how much I put on my plate, and I also need to be mindful of how many snacks I’m having and what my snacks are.

I’m refusing to count macros because I don’t enjoy it, it takes up way too much time, and because I don’t eat the same thing all the time, I would be constantly punching in ingredients all day long 🙅🏼‍♀️ I’ve actually done IIFYM a few years ago and it was ok back then, I’ve also done a few online programs so I do know a bit about calories and macros off the top of my head which helps.

So what does this mean for me? Well I’m going to be sharing more of my fitness journey, more of “what I eat in a day” rather than just 1 meal or snacks (I still will share when I can) plus I make snacks for the kids all the time too so of course I’ll continue to share those. .
I’m really excited that I finally feel ready to take on a new challenge, after spending the last 6 months maintaining and just getting to know myself again in the gym and building up some confidence after having another baby, I am ready and just to remind everyone there is no destination I’m working towards, I’ll continue to just do my thing 🏋🏼‍♀️🥇

When I look back Easter used to be one of the hardest times for me around food. For years I never ate an Easter egg or brownie or anything I classed as bad or unhealthy in fear I had over eaten and was going to get fat. When actually all I didn’t know how to do was manage what I wanted.

Over eating or cravings is NORMAL. In fact everyone does it. Even those people who are in the best shape of their life will overeat occasionally.
.
The main difference between me back then vs me now is knowing it’s not the end of the world – believe me 4 years ago this situation would have felt like my life was over!
What do I do now instead of make it a problem? Know how to manage it.
Knowing about what’s in my foods, calories, how my body works and how to be flexible means over eating occasionally or having a brownie when I fancy is no longer a problem.

If I want a brownie or an Easter egg I accept my nutrition for that day may not be perfect, however I know I can still factor it into my calories and make it work for that day. Or if I have over eaten one evening and have been a bit of a dick then I simply reduce my calories slightly over the whole week and keep consistent so by the end of the week my calorie average is normal = equalling out the situation. (If you don’t count calories even reducing your normal portion sizes slightly will be enough).

What you don’t need which once was my solution is to hate yourself, feel guilty or shame you have eaten more and try rectify the situation overnight by starving yourself for the next day or week, over exercise, go on a diet and in my case a few years ago… make yourself sick.
.
Just like 1 salad will not make you thin, 1 brownie will not make you fat.
Consistency with your nutrition is what makes you fitter just like consistently over eating is what will make you fatter.
A one off with a little management is called balance – not the end of the world.

I basically do calisthenics, squats, Deadlifts, and lot of walking. I stopped weights for upper body a few months ago.
I spent the year eating more calories but keeping dietary fat relatively low. I believe that I increased my metabolism through higher sugar/carb, a good amount of salt, very low poly-unsaturated fat, consistent calorie intake. I maintain weight at around 3500 calories and usually more. Structure your workouts around lifting your heaviest weights at the start of your sessions and then if/when you have time, perform cardio at the end. 👌🏼

More importantly remember that other than for fitness/health benefits you don’t have to do hours of cardio for fat loss. The majority of your fat loss will come from ensuring you are in a calorie deficit. Best achieved by tracking your calories on @myfitnesspal 👈

Throughout my latter teens and into my twenties I found myself getting more and more tired despite sleeping at least 8 hours a night. I tried everything: increasing my vitamin b consumption (important), managing my sugar consumption to stop crashes and changed my pre workout among other things. Nothing worked to any great degree. Until... I evaluated my diet and realised that despite the fact I thought I was drinking enough water I clearly wasn't. Of course this is dependent upon how much exercise you're doing each day but the minimum amount of water you should be drinking each day is 2L.

Every day I fill a 2L bottle with water, squeeze a lemon into it and drop a green tea bag in. I also mix in one teaspoon of manuka honey and one of apple cider vinegar. If you're not keen on the taste of the latter just focus on lemon and water. 🍌Boosts your metabolism by anywhere between 24%-26% according to two big budget studies over the past 2 years. Drinking 2L of water a day is estimated to burn an extra 96 calories per day. 🍋Lemon helps maintain good skin and can help reduce levels of acne, especially if you live in a big city (think about the pollution your body absorbs on a daily basis). I've been fortunate to have never had problems with my skin but since making a commitment to drinking lemon water my skin is flawless. 🍊Lubricates joints, protects your spinal cord and other sensitive tissues. If you are lifting heavy and and often and you are not drinking enough water to keep your joints healthy then you are risking serious injury. If you're looking to lose weight then drinking water is not only critical in respect to your metabolism but also how full you will feel and thus how little you'll be wanting to snack.

٧-تجنّب العجينة التي تحتوي على الحليب المجفف لأنه يضيف كمية عالية من السعرات الحرارية والدهون للعجينة.

If you’re trying to lose weight, switching from cooking oil to cooking spray is one of the easiest ways to save a bunch of calories. The best part is you can save calories without actually reducing the amount of food you’re eating.

Now, cooking sprays don’t actually have 0 calories. They have 0 calories for a 1/3 second spray and none of us use that little. However, even if it’s not actually 0 calories, it’s significantly less than oil and you’ll still be saving a lot of calories.

There are lots of benefits to training with bands. Here are a few...

You can increase strength using bands. Learning to work through increased tension as you move through the movement will make the movement easier when you are not using bands. OK so to explain what I mean by that ... When you push a weight or a cable... whatever weight you're pushing is exactly what it is throughout the full range of motion. When you're pushing bands, the tension increases as you push through the range of motion so the weight gets heavier and heavier until full lockout which is its heaviest. All bands actually have a weight resistance number connected to it

Increases strength in stabilizer muscles. When using bands you have the fire more muscles to stabilize so if you get those muscles stronger then when you're using weights without bands you will then be stronger. (Side note) Burning more calories with more muscles firing.
You can become more explosive in movements.. controlled explosiveness. . The benefits above are with using bands and weights together. Some other benefits of band training is that it's very easy to get a good workout when you don't have access to weights. Easy to put in a gym bag war when going away and traveling and if you're not sure if you're going to have access to a gym you could just pack some bands perion great way to get in a total body workout. .

But is this REALLY the right way to think of the question?

How about framing it this way:

There is literally no reason to avoid a protein shake post workout, other than simply hating the taste of all of them (and if you do, you haven’t tried ours…), or knowing that you’re about to eat and you don’t want to spoil your appetite or use up the calories on a shake
Other than that?

We know that you need to eat some protein at some point after training. We know that doing so improves recovery and progress over time. We know that you need to rehydrate, too.
-

What’s more, we know that protein shakes are one of the cheapest, if not THE cheapest sources of protein, gram for gram
-

And we know that enjoying something tasty after doing something helps reinforce the habit of doing that thing, and my personal reason is to stop me getting hangry and eating the whole fridge when I get home 😯

So while it’s not critical, it’s pretty useful, and there’s no real reason to avoid doing it, if you wish
Bring back the post workout shake 🥛it’s not broscience to have one, just an option, and quite a good one for many!
