"Okay, May. You've fought gang baddies, the Avengers, your dad, and literally other worldly beings. You can do this!" ⠀ ⠀ ⠀ ⠀ ⠀ ⠀ ⠀ ⠀
The 16-year-old tried to talk herself up to the challenge, as the shrill started to raise in volume and pitch, along with the smell of feces barreling down on her. May fortified herself, tie-dye swimming goggles wrapped around her head, and covered her eyes, her winter coat draped over her, but rolled up at the sleeves, and she put on latex gloves to avoid any contact. ⠀ ⠀ ⠀ ⠀ ⠀ ⠀ ⠀ ⠀ ⠀ ⠀ ⠀ ⠀ ⠀ ⠀ ⠀
She talked herself up, "You can do this!" Repeating herself as she breathed in heavily, then turned to see it, that fleshy mound making that horrid noise, and a smell to match! The Johnson baby!
⠀ ⠀ ⠀ ⠀ ⠀
Why May decided to take up babysitting was beyond her, after all, she already did have a full time hero-ing job, but that never paid well, so maybe this teen wanted the security of having a couple bucks in her pocket the next time she went to the mall. Easing her way slowly closer to her neighbor's son, breathing in and out through her mouth as a defense mechanism against the smell, she carefully and cautiously, flipped the baby over unraveled the diaper, put one of Normie's bombs in it, rolled it back up and chucked it out the nearest window!
⠀ ⠀ ⠀
A sigh of relief escaped her lips as May almost went to go sit back down, until it struck her, she needed to still put a clean diaper on this kid! The teen moaned right before going under the changing table, grabbing a fresh diaper and putting it out the Johnson kid, his name was Garrett. Then, May plucked the baby from the table, held him against her hoping to make him fall asleep, so she could go out. But after an hour or so, the only thing that happened was the crying and poop smell rose again. Continuing this endless cycle of changing diapers and blowing up the old ones. ⠀ ⠀

My @stelladot backpack is filled with gum, La Croix, lip balm, sunscreen, sunglasses, a hat, and patience. I carry that and her cell phone. It’s like a teen bjorn. We also hit The Grove. Of Course. @brandymelvilleusa- the land of crop tops- twice. And then @urbanoutfitters- a step back in time to the brands and style you wore in high school- also twice. And a place with shorts so short they could be thongs. I’m telling you- this is the karma part. This is a rite of passage. Like taking a cross country flight with a crying, sick baby that vomits on you and has an exploding diaper on your white pants. Shopping with your growing teen daughter has to happen. 0 items in her closet fit her. It's so fun and exciting to be together, but moments within that time seriously suck. YOU have no style. None. What you like is- unthinkable. Mom tip. If you want your daughter to like it. DO NOT LOOK at the item. If you look at it, touch it, or god forbid comment on it, 99% of the time, you condemn the item to cringeville. But, if you don’t give up. And you endure the eye rolling without crying. And you manage to pick an item she likes, you will feel more accomplished than a nobel laureate. And just remember, in 4 years, she’ll move out. And you’ll miss her, terribly." - Jessica

This is my 15 year old daughters take home baby from her Teen Living Class. I’m SO glad they still do this to teach teens about how hard it is to take care of a baby. It beats the Egg or Flour bag we used to have to carry around with us when I was in Jr. High. It actually will cry if they let their head drop. It also cries if it needs it’s diaper changed or it needs to be fed. She wears a bracelet that connects with it so the teacher knows that it was the student who took care of it all weekend long. If it doesn’t coo when it’s done crying that means you didn’t take care of what it needed and you get docked a point. Every teen needs to do this. One of our biggest prayers as we’ve transitioned to our new meeting location on Sundays at a local high school is for more opportunities to love and serve those in our community and at the high school. In the past month, our Mercy Ministry team has identified two ways for our church to get involved with the teen moms at the high school we’re meeting at on Sundays.
-
First, we’ve partnered with @robynes_nest to create these "Baby Bags" to support new moms as they welcome their new baby (and twins, in one case!) by providing a diaper bag, diapers, wipes, rash cream, pacifiers, “What to Expect in the First Year”, toys, and a handmade baby blanket.
-
Another opportunity we’ve identified is inviting the teen moms into a 6-week education and support group led by one of our members, Abby, and several other Cross of Christ moms. We’re looking forward to serving these new moms well by providing practical support and care that points everyone involved towards God’s provision and care for each of us.

If you told me when I was 19 that twenty years later at nearly 40 years old I would dress up in footy PJ’s, an adult diaper and a bonnet to pave the way for teen girls to hear the gospel I would have said, “Dreams really do come true!” Because I was so hoping and praying this Jesus thing was the real deal! You see at 19 I had just come to know the life transforming message of Jesus Christ. His perfect life, his sacrificial death and his miraculous resurrection meant my life, death and eternity were radically changed forever! He had taken hold of my heart and I was ready to take up my cross and follow him. And at the time this meant sharing my life and faith on my college campus and in the local High School, I wanted all of these students to know the love and sacrifice Jesus had made for them and the abundant and eternal life his death had given them. Being back here doing this kind of “work” screams of God’s undeniable faithfulness to me. He has held me these last twenty years through many trials and the message I have for these women is sweeter to me now than it was twenty years ago. The fact that at nearly forty my passion is still to be telling people about Jesus shows me God is not only giving us eternal life he is completely changing our life here on earth. I am proof! Praise God!!! Can i get an Amen!!?

I originally went looking for a nice quote to attach with my photo as if that was going to make it any more special or endearing. A quote wouldn't change the fact of how hard I prayed to get at least two photos that I liked because I already knew that taking this family photo was going to be a task. Finding the perfect quote surely wouldn't make me forget about the headache I had all day & the funk I was in having to deal with whining & anxiety on a day where I should be peaceful, resting & grateful.
We often tact words with images just based off of it's outcome. My family portrait speaks so much to me & hopefully to many of you on this mother's day. I have three beautiful children that I was blessed with. Not by choice but by chance. Hell, as a teen I was told I may not ever be able to have children & look today at my #lineage. I love all three of them in such a way that I could have never known I could love someone. However, daily I'm learning that I can't handle them all the same way. Each of them require certain type of treatment, hugs, kisses, discipline, care, tummy rubs, pep talks, & more. Where I've been trying to approach my two yr old the same as I did my now nine yr old I realize I'll fail us all if I did that. Now a little girl has been added to the dynamic and boy has this been an adventure thus far; to say the least. Daily I'm faced with a new challenge, a new fear, a new question, a new desire.
#Motherhood is challenging! Single parenting is difficult & wack if I might add but I attack it head on each & everyday I awake to my newborn who needs her diaper changed & her morning feeding or to my two year old who is use to a routine of waking up, asking for TV, cereal, & juice (in that order). Exhausted or not, I have to aid them both & sometimes it's happening all at the same time. Baby in one arm & with the other, I'm in the kitchen wrist twisting like it's stir fry making breakfast, lunch, & dinner; THIS IS DONE W/O EXPECTATION FROM ANYONE ELSE: but I'm not complaining! I'm simply stating the struggle, juggle & hustle it takes to be a mother.💪🏽👑 #HappyMothersDay 💝

"One day some years ago I finally told my parents that I was pregnant. I kept it a secret for 5 months. Yes I know it was wrong and I should've said something sooner. But I was scared, scared of the disappointment I was about to cause my parents about still being a teen and pregnant. Since the day I found out that's all I would think about. Being an only child I've always wanted to make them proud and do what they expected from me, but I knew that everything was about to change and all their dreams they had for me were about to fall apart. I could see the pain in their tears, it broke my heart, they warned me that everything from now on was going to be completely different and new for me, but then I went from starting my own family to becoming a single mom. My child's father walked away from everything in a heartbeat and yes it was painful but it also made me realize that I had to step up and be strong. Then the changes started. I dropped out of my second year of college and moved back home. As things were slowly falling into place I finally found out I was having a baby boy. I was going to bring a baby boy into the world and for the first time there were happy tears. A couple of months after that I moved back to the place I was born to give my son a better life. Leaving behind friends and family and most importantly my mom. I was received with open arms from family and friends here, I was able to enjoy the last months of my pregnancy. I gave birth to the most beautiful baby boy. After a week of him being born it was just me and him. I ignored the pain that I had and knew that I could do it. I didn't know how to change a diaper, prepare formula or give a newborn a bath. I had to get my first job because I knew that he was my responsibility and I was the one that needed to provide for him. I went from being a only child and a spoiled brat to a mother and a father. And life couldn't have taught me in a better way that there is nothing better then being a parent." @alonsogmom_ 💕 #christmasgiveaway

You know the amazing magpies inspiring mom contest we put on every year? Well. We decided to take a year off from it. I told the team about two months ago that I really wanted to pour into our diaper drive partnership with @alyarmgreer and our motherhood photo shoots with @mandyjohnsonphoto
.
our inspiring mom contest has always been at the core of our mama celebrations, and this year I couldn’t see a way to tie it all in, to do it powerfully, and to really honor the mamas the way I wanted to.
.
Well.
You know how life is.
It’s wonderful and surprising.
And great things happen, even when we think they can’t.
And God shows us other paths and other plans...
And last week while our team attended Anchor of Hope celebrating @younglives their sweet teen moms were selling these beautiful Mother’s Day cards to raise money for Summer camp.
Obviously we had to buy some.
But then my brain actually started working and I was like, ‘We can still do the inspiring mom celebrations!! Let’s just modify it- everyone who wants to honor and celebrate a mom who inspires them can write their powerful words of admiration and praise in these cards! And we will sell the cards!’
.
So now the cards are here. They are $5. 100% of the proceeds goes to @younglives AND we will give you a $25 magpies gift certificate to include in the card for when you send it to that special momma! *cards come with an envelope
.
Special thank you to @alitself and @annamccoyart for laying the young lives mission on hearts 💕

I know this is a double chin laughing shot - but I still had to post it. 😂😂 Because I wanted to tell all those mamas out there who have kids that are growing up too fast that you don’t have to worry. Teen life isn’t such a bad phase. 🌈🌈

My daughter wanted to do a “try not to laugh” challenge for my YouTube channel (link in bio) yesterday. It’s something I never would have done on my own. And you know what? We are still laughing about the experience. The diaper years are so special. But there is so much more left to come for moms. It doesn’t end there. .
.
Natalie is my best friend. I’ve been telling her this for 13 years. This young lady continuously keeps me on my toes and shows me that good still exists - even when there are days that I question this notion. 🌟🌟🌟

Thank goodness for little girls. And now I can honestly say - thank goodness for big girls, too. .

SETBACKS ARE SETUPS IN DISGUISE. Let me tell you a story. When I was born, it wasn’t into a wealthy family. My dad would drink my diaper money away and go spend what was left of their budget on the arcade.
Fast forward, my grandma raised me and we lived in a tiny old trailer in New Augusta, MS. There were some days we didn’t even have running water. She raised me for much of my childhood.

Fast forward: my mom and step dad raised me as a teen. They gave me a roof over my head, but not a dime. Anything I wanted, I had to buy. So while I was in nursing school, I worked part time at GNC (as pictured) and sold my plasma to make extra bucks.. that is until I blew a vein.

Fast forward: I was going through a divorce from my ex husband. He left me with over $10,000 of credit card debt buying car parts and tattoos in my name. He didn’t pay off a dime. As an LPN, I made maybe $36,000 a year and struggled with other bills so this was devastating. Then I had found out my nursing contact was up and I was out of a job and had to scramble so I took one at a nursing home.

Fast forward: I remarried and worked as a nurse for 5 years through I didn’t enjoy it. My last nursing job was at a podiatrist clinic. I had just found out I was pregnant with my first child. I switched to the clinic so I could have normal hours. Well when my boss found out I was pregnant he fired me. I spent the week sobbing and looking up legal options but there wasn’t anything we could do. So I took a part time manager position at FYE and started blogging to pass the time. This is how Diary of a Fit Mommy LLC. was born. Within a few weeks I was already making as much as the music store so I quit and turned to my business full time. I eventually became a certified personal trainer and who I am today.
Lemme tell you something. I didn’t start off rich. I didn’t have things handed over to me. I worked my butt off despite failing many times, many ways. It took me getting to this point to realize setbacks are just setups to something better that’s coming. Did I think I would be a business owner? Heck no.. I never went to business school or had that desire! But God has some crazy plans for us!
NEVER GIVE UP!
