Long post warning..
After embarking on my minimalist journey for the past 5(ish) months, I've taken a step back from purchasing makeup, posting on my Instagram, and the beauty community in general. I've been thinking about how I can incorporate my new lifestyle with my artistry and love for playing with makeup. It was recently brought to my attention by my husband (when I was debating on making the above purchases) that I can, in fact ,enjoy makeup and beauty still, while being a minimalist, because this is something that brings me joy. I came to the realization of what I like and dislike about makeup social media and the beauty community in general. It has become grounds for companies to use influencers to heavily promote their products in a way that is questionable. When I first started becoming interested in makeup it was before beauty social media was a big thing. I remember the first "influencer"/ YouTuber I started watching was @emilynoel83 I loved her honesty, her passion, and her creativity with the content she put out. To this day I still enjoy her content, I don't feel like she hypes up products for anyone to use discount codes etc. with that said, I have decided to continue my makeup Instagram but without the pressures of talking about or using the latest and greatest hyped up items. When I feel excited about something naturally, I will purchase it and talk about my thoughts and opinions.
On another note, I made myself a list of things I'm not buying in 2017 and a few beauty items are on that list, they include: •eyeshadow (shocked?) •blush • hair styling products •nail polish
• makeup brushes • hand creams and body lotions
•perfume and body sprays • lip balm or chap stick
I intend on putting to good use and getting creative with what I already have ! I hope this inspires you in some sort of way to not feel like you always have to buy what everyone is talking about, to put to good use what you have, and to be inspired by the artistry and art of makeup not the marketing and packaging...
