We were in a busy market in the rain at night. Behind us we heard police on their radio clearing the road. We didn’t know what was happening. Our breaks down often but nobody usually cares. That’s common here. Then a convoy pulled up and told us to get in. The SUV’s were tinted + we didn’t know who was inside but we knew it was safe because the police were there. We all got into different cars. It was like a chariot coming to save us in the night. It was Madam Sirleaf + her security! Alexandra, our academic director, grabbed Janet, our 8th grade school Vice President into the car with her. I went with Jennabo behind them and a few girls went behind in the car behind me. The American teens were not with us, they had a different car. The convoy drove us into West Point, an informal community referred to as a slum, and probably the most looked down on place in the country. It has 1 very tiny road and they dropped our girls off deep inside where they live! Janet, sitting next to Madam Sirleaf, got out of the car and said, “Thank you, and again, I’m Janet the Vice President of @morethanmeorg Academy!” And walked away with her chin to the sky. The other girls were also beaming. The community members had their jaws on the ground. My eyes welled up with joy. Our girls are the stars of West Point + they light up the world. #holycrap #whataday #OMG #didthatreallyjusthappen (shout out to our More Than Me driver, Christopher)!
