midnight for a 45 min hiit session....home for few hours sleep...
9-11am circuits/weights....
2pm sprints around Howth Cliff walk(those hills 😢) x 3 times 😪
5pm circuits and jog(with a 10kg weighted vest for me💪)
7pm boxing/pad work when I thought my shoulders were gonna fall off @ciara_rossi😫
Then just training till the death to reach your goal. I think I counted 250 reps on 45kg trap bar deadlift😶😶
To say my body is broke is an understatement but it was such a goid mental and physical challenge. It reminded me how strong I really am in both body and mind coz I was prepared to stay there till the death to reach my goal no matter what it took!!!
Cant wait for the next one on June 23rd. I will be making sure I have a new @fitbituk_ireland heart rate monitor by then and not just my @fitbit flex step tracker🤣🤣 (watch my story🙄)and might even aim for the 10k challenge. Thats if my body us recovered by then 🤣🤣

I find that when I switch up my workouts, it gives me something new to look forward to instead of the same boring routine.

Lately, I’ve been swimming most mornings in the lagoon in my backyard. I love it because it really strengthens my respiratory system and sustains my digestive system. It helps lean me out while providing energy to take on the day! It’s very refreshing and awakening, no need for coffee after a swim like that lol. Oh, and last week I decided to step up my game and I got some amazing performance goggles, with a swim cap.

My swimming experiences have elevated, as I now get to watch the tropical marine life underwater. It’s unbelievable. So this is what I’m saying, that I created a workout I’m excited to do on the daily.

Aside from swimming, I’ve been going to the gym and exploring various “HIIT” High Intensity Interval Training workouts. Let me tell you, these are no joke! This involves intense quick bursts of exercise followed by short, sometimes active recovery periods.

What does this do for your body? It gets your heart rate up and burns fat in less time. I am drenched in sweat and feel like I got a really good workout! ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
I’m now attending hot bikram yoga regularly. It’s really a beautiful thing. It provides clarity for my mind, alongside a deep stretch, core powered, as well as increasing my metabolism while burning some major calories! It improves the lymphatic system and flushes out toxins. I’ll share some of my poses in posts to come soon!

Lastly, I love to go on beach runs, as shown here! The sand is challenging but gratifying. It’s easier on my knees and the nature route is so scenic. I live next to this beach so it’s convenient, but I still have to make the time to drive 20-30 mins to go to my gym or yoga. It’s all about what you value and what your willing to do. I know this all sounds like fanatic workouts but isn’t that the point? To really challenge and strengthen your mind and body?!

First condition your mind & body in a multitude of ways 2 prepare for the final moment of confrontation.
A skilled good fighter trained thousands of punches, variations, blocking, dodging, slipping, watching profights, combining, padwork many times before they can compete. Must learn proper form, structure, movement, technique, philosophy.
Practice sparring, shadowboxing, footwork, do interval training, use punching bags, working always to increase power, speed, accuracy and technique.
Make muscles and skin, flexible, strong, loose and relax, the nerve endings on your knuckles become numb and strengthen your wrist, though & harden your abs,
your mind must be still & responsive.
Entire body completely relax before & after every strike. Breathing properly sometimes deeply to improve stamina, control heart rate & adrenaline release.
Increase the time to focus, feel fit.
Decrease the chance getting knocked out of your shoes.
When the time comes to fight, the mind should be empty & completely present.
Any tactic or strategy consciously employed will be overly committed and non-adaptive.
So u should rely on subconscious instinct, intuition & muscle memory.
Eyes should be trained using peripheral vision. So you can fully watch all movements of opponent & environment.
Stance is fluent & light, constantly moving. But able to immediately plant roots when punches are thrown #Keepcalm and muscle tension low makes you faster=hitting harder. Guard should be relaxed and movingly slightly. Just enough to distract and feint, but not wide enough to open yourself up. Know when to punch and when to duck. Body & mind are connected, you can’t separate them, have to have that fightingspirit

Guys, yoga and slowing down my workouts has always been a challenge for me! I love strength training and HIIT and high energy classes. I love what transitioning from running to strength training did for my physique and confidence (and what I always recommend if you want to lose body fat).
My current routine is 2-3 days of strength, 1x Body combat, 1x HIIT cycling, and 1x boxing or other high energy class. I incorporate 10 minutes of stair-master on strength days if I’m feeling it and want to watch YouTube 😂
I love to sweat and get my heart-rate sky high and feel the burn in my muscles but I also know yoga and “intuitive movement” and rest if needed is SO beneficial and I’m working on it 👌🏼 I walk to the gym and have seen the best results physically and mentally by walking everyday than by killing myself!!
SO I’m committing to Pilates/yoga (can be at home) or just a walk 1-2x a week and stretching each night while answering emails.

Little tip that has helped me for over 15 years now: use the most accurate tools consistently and correctly to get the most accurate feedback! I know it sounds silly and obvious, but how many of you have ever looked at your FitBit or Apple Watch 📱⌚️or a cardio machine and been like, “uhmmm...? Is that even right?” Guess what? It’s likely NOT. ❌Most cardio machines are calibrated for an average-sized person & composition (aka: not necessarily you). They don’t account for your true body composition, fitness level, nor do they accurately read your heart rate - not even when holding the sensor handles! You can get info stating you potentially did 3Xs as much caloric expenditure than you actually did. Yikes! And those monitors that are on your wrist only? Guess what? Latest studies over the past 2 years have shown that unless you’re wearing a chest strap component to send info to your watch, you’re wrist device can read between 2-20bpm off andfrequently fail to record during moments you are sweating and vigorously moving. Hmm 🤔 doesn’t that defeat the purpose? Monitors with chest straps are within 1-2bpm of actual EKG readings 👌

So, if you decide you want to add an objective way to more accurately record your HR, workout zone (cardio, fat burning, etc.), and caloric expenditure, I HIGHLY encourage you to invest in one like what I have here 🔝 I’ve had this particular model from @polarglobal (no, I have no affiliation with them other than being a loyal consumer) that comes with a soft, comfy chest strap, for over 4 years. To me, it’s well worth the peace of mind to glance down and see when my intensity during training is paying off, and when I need to switch it up and/or pick up my efforts. So, if you’re not getting the results you want, ask yourself if some of your tools are really giving you the right picture reflecting your efforts. Just an idea. 🤷🏻‍♀️💡Obviously, this should simply be a complement to other indicators of progress towards your fitness goals and NOT the only or main means by which to assess how you’re doing 😉 ——————————————————-

I’ve had many of you ask me if I’m tired and the answer is well.. yes of course my body is tired after a long day of riding and in some cases I’m adding strength training in, swimming and or running. And my stats are getting better not worse. - after talking and going over my stats with @alex.viada from heart rate, power ( @garmin power peddles) and VO2max we’ve found this: my resting heart rate has decreased significantly and my VO2 max is now in the top 1% of female cyclists. Nutrition has been huge for me- I’m eating high fats all throughout the day followed by protein and veggies... still eating a good amount of carbs in the morning. My water bottles now because it’s so hot is all Hydracharge from @kagedmusclesupps since we found the water will just make me bloated and strip minerals. I’m learning so much about my body and its capabilities... I’m in awe by how I’m literally getting stronger and becoming a better athlete everyday. #ashleyhorner #ashleycyclesforcancer

MamaBaby Haiti is ... After hearing from several of you wanting to know more about this place, I figured I should give a quick intro to @mamababy_haiti, where we’ve been staying and serving at all week, because it really is something special (and I want to post an actual post, not just stories). MamaBaby Haiti is a free birth center in Cap-Haitien that provides pre-natal care, education, and birth services to the women of this area. And by “area” I mean that some women walk 4 hours, while in labor!, to deliver their babies here. The clinic was started and is mostly funded by people in the US, but is completely run by Haitians and isn’t reliant on volunteers like us to do their work here. It provides education and training to midwives, creates jobs for the full staff here, and is helping to remedy the heartbreaking statistic that Haiti has the highest mother and infant mortality rate in the Western Hemisphere. MamaBaby sees so many women per week, and helps safely bring countless precious babies into the world. I am learning so much just observing the way they approach labor and delivery. To watch the midwives calmly and tenderly walk these Mamas through birth with no drugs, trusting the process and their bodies, has been life-changing for me. I’ve watched 4 babies be born now (!!😭!) and the miraculous way in which women’s bodies can change, adapt, withstand deep pain, bring forth life, and recover leaves me in awe and wonder every time. To watch them in this raw, vulnerable and fiercely strong state has removed so much fear around birth for me (not that I had much to begin with, but even with the way I hope to convey the process to those I know experiencing pregnancy) and gives me so much confidence in our bodies’ divine ability to create life. I have a million and one stories I could share from this place, and hope to share more over on my blog in time, but if the mission of this place tugs on your heart at all as it has on mine, I can offer several ways to help give support to MamaBaby, and I can assure you that they are so deserving. I will carry this place with me forever and I know I’ll be back someday ❤️
