Maintaining the weight off and continuing to live a fit lifestyle 10 years later is the daily challenge. Many people lose a significant amount of weight quickly to only gain it all back and more. Usually the reason is that the initial weight loss was done by making drastic changes that aren’t sustainable long term or even if they make subtle changes that are sustainable, they get to a point where they feel they no longer have to watch what they eat and can skip their exercise routine.
My success has been following my “One Step at a Time” approach DAILY for the last 10 years. I have had my “setbacks” and have indulged at times, but it has only been VERY temporarily and I always get right back to MY fitness lifestyle.
Consistency is key folks and of you think that it’s any more complicated than that, then therein lies your problem.

"I have struggled with my weight for as long as I can remember. Growing up both my parents worked and so we found ourselves having fast food dinners often & on days we would eat home cooked meals, they were far from healthy ( Mexican food is often cooked with a ton of oil). The unhealthy habits stuck and it got harder to live a healthy lifestyle. All the fad/crash diets, you name them, I’ve done them. I will admit I lost some weight quickly but I ended up gaining it all back and more! It wasn’t until some health scares last year that I finally decided to change for real. In March 2017 I began my weight loss journey at 296 pounds. I changed my eating habits completely and began doing cardio everyday. I managed to lose 50 pounds but when the holidays came along I didn’t do so great. I was stuck at 246-250lbs and couldn’t seem to lose more weight. In January 2018 I decided to look for a personal trainer and after doing my research I got in contact with Christine & began personal training sessions at Fit From the Ground Up. I've been training with her for about 6 weeks & have gotten out of my rut. Now I'm at 232 lbs!!! His story👉🏼 At some point, we’ve all Intentionally or unintentionally casually made fun of that fat person in the room. Well I was the fattest person in my school or college. But rarely does anyone take a moment to pause and think of the insecurities that hound this person?
Staying in hostel during graduation, bullied and physically harassed all the time. Referred as Ameba (shapeless creature). Not allowed to participate in sports because I was unfit.

10 years of bullying and mockery later, it was one thing to hate how I looked, it was another to actually do something about it. And so it began. PUBERTY DID'NT WORKED OUT FOR ME, I DID.
The journey from 300lbs in 2007 (58% body fat) to 180 lbs ( 4% body fat) certainly hasn’t been easy, specially when you don't now what and how to do, did a lot of mistakes in the process, learnt from it. Studied and researched but it’s been incredibly rewarding. And in all honesty, this is just the beginning.

Making me feel beyond frustrated, but welcome to my life 💁🏼‍♀️ When my body is not happy that’s what happens, metabolic roller coaster, yay! 🤗. When this happens I focus on what I have control of like hitting my macros and getting in all my training. My body is going to do its thing, and I may not like it, but it is what it is. Accepting the things I can not change and being grateful for the things I can change is 🔑. I may not be able to fully control how my body adapts post show, but I can control my mindset and how I react to what my body does.
Focusing on my mind on positivity, and embracing all the things I can control will only improve this process. #mondaymotivation

Then this morning he climbed out of his crib - stealth mode. Walked into our bedroom like, “HI MOMMY HI DADDY!” 🤦🏻‍♀️ Ahhh this is the never ... Check ins yesterday. I ended up kind of getting a full night’s rest. Woke up on Hunter’s floor at 9 AM and Keith had already left for work. It was a rough night. Ahhh this is the never ending sleep test on Keith and me. Jeez!
Anyway, I don’t feel ready for my show 😭. I’m still doing it, but I just think all these curveballs have messed with me mentally and I haven’t had the focus I’ve had in the past. It’s just been kind of rough. Below is my update.

My food hasn’t changed since I started prep and I’ve only had 1 additional HIIT session added - putting me at 3 days of HIIT. I’m happy with where I am right now and I’ll continue to lean out as the weeks pass. Just enjoying the ride and not worrying about much for this prep. I have a toddler to worry about, so I ain’t got time to worry about anything else. I’m actually super happy with my current weight, but show prep is show prep, and you gotta get tiny - temporarily. Remember that, this is temporary.

Check in day today - weight did not change again from last week. It feels very frustrating but I gotta keep pushing through. I ended up getting a really good amount of sleep last week, and I feel a lot leaner than I previously have, so I just gotta trust the process and keep going - my body does tend to be super stubborn at times during prep.
WEIGHT: 129.8 lbs - teeny bit up since last week

Morbidly obese, greatly depressed and in constant pain, I finally came to the realization that if I did not make a change, my life would be significantly shortened. Knowing I did not have the strength or knowledge to lose a large amount of weight alone, I decided to seek help from my sister Heather. I loved her approach of creating "lifestyle changes" rather than going on a 'diet' and handing me a strict regimen of exercise. I made small changes in my nutrition, created goals that were not tied to a scale, and discovered new styles of exercise that I actually enjoyed doing (which is where I fell in love with running 🏃🏻‍♀️!!). *
Instead of having the daunting task of losing 100+ pounds over my head, my sister helped me to shift my mindset to focus on celebrating every day victories along the way, which made my overall goal so much more achievable. With Heather's help, I lost 120 lbs and I have successfully maintained most of that loss over the last 3 years.
Through this journey we discovered a desire to help others live their best life possible and we both became ACE Certified personal trainers. Although I have not done much with my certification due to a full-time career and other life changes, spreading the message that you can change your life is something I am passionate about🙌. I am so proud of my sister as she has grown her education, adding nutrition specialist to her resume, and having the drive to turn her passion into an amazing online resource to help people achieve their health goals. With the help of a few of my sisters, she just launched a new program through @vibrantlifestudio that I personally think is spectacular.

Sleep is so important for progress and weight loss, so I’m super irritated that it’s just not happening for me at this time in my life. It sucks, but it’s my life right now. Anyway, other than that, prep is alright - haven’t strayed from my macros but have missed some workouts. I have a smile on my face but I’m still tired AF.

While the changes may be small this is still only the beginning for me,fitness has made a huge impact on my life, my energy, my sleep, my self discipline, and my strength both physically and mentally. The gym has been a place for me to let out all of my stress and focus on rebuilding who I want to be. It’s fascinating what the body can do, and sometimes difficult to remember progress is not linear. Here’s to two years and a lifetime of change for the better!
In my before pics on the left I started at 135lbs and was not eating sleeping or training properly, I then decided enough was enough, purchased a workout plan and started tracking my macros. At first I lost 10 lbs quite quickly with such a drastic change in lifestyle. To be honest now I just generally eat healthy and hit the gym 4-5 days/ week, pushing myself to lift heavy and incorporate HIIT when I’m feeling bloated and or super stressed. In doing so I have slowly have built myself up to 135lbs over the last 2 years and am feeling great. I do have a little winter fluff(currently sitting at 140lbs) but know that fluff isn’t here to stay, I used to worry about the number on the scale but I’ve come to realize I’d rather feel strong and healthy than skinny. Of course there is always room for improvement and I will continue to set goals for myself (💪🏼🍑). The top left hand picture was a few days before I gave birth to my daughter. I was 150lbs pre pregnancy, 188lbs when I went in to have her and today I am 122lbs. Before pregnancy I didn’t care about what I ate or did to my body. Getting pregnant made me appreciate my body on a whole other level. Plus I needed the energy to keep up with a baby.
Since starting my weight loss/ healthier lifestyle journey, I’ve lost 60+lbs. But it’s not what I lost that mattered, it was what I gained!
-Confidence (still working on it everyday)
-Energy -More motivation and positivity
Granted every day isn’t my best, I am human and have fall backs.
I have also learned rather to fuel my body with good calories and nutrients than deprive myself of everything I think is “bad” for me.
I’ve become more health conscious with my daily choices and I’ve learned to treat myself! Because food is food and delicious and makes a person happy!
At age 24 this is the best I’ve ever felt or looked. (I wasn’t very active in highschool at all either 😒) and it’s all thanks to my Advocare products and support system.

I am well on my way to becoming fit and fierce! After 30 days on the Arbonne 30 Days to Healthy Living program I lost 8 lbs, 1% body fat, plus quite a few inches. Not to mention my clothes fit better, I’m getting better sleep, have more energy, & no more headaches!!! I’ve been making excuses forever and using any opportunity NOT to take care of myself and my health. I’m coaching volleyball to a bunch of teenage boys, and well…I decided that I definitely needed to get in shape for that and be a role model for healthy living. The added motivation was being able to keep up with them at practice…there’s no way that I could let them out run me. Lol!
I needed something that actually fit into my life. I don’t do diets…they have never worked for me. I wanted a lifestyle change and an easy program to follow that was super realistic. Something I knew I could keep up with after the “challenge” was over. I believe in real food. I love having things like protein shakes to help bridge the gap in my nutrition. And having a bunch of accountability partners, recipes, grocery shopping lists and being able to ask questions especially from people who were going through the same thing as me? Priceless.
I’m not done yet…but I can’t wait for my next 30 days. Message me if you want to join me on this journey as I continue on to the next 30 and beyond!!!

But this winter has been different for me... I was started on Wellbutrin in the fall and have actually been enjoying winter and Christmas when before they were such a chore to have to do and being trapped in the house. Usually in the winter I gain weight, doesn’t everyone all those awesome food holidays and big sweaters cover allllll. Yet this year I have actually maintained my weight and lost lbs. I have made it to my goal weight! My pre baby weight. Things aren’t where they used to be so the gym is going to come in handy now. Lose weight in the kitchen get fit in the gym.
So anyone out there that abnormally HATES winter and have noticed a pattern don’t be afraid to reach out to your healthcare provider. It has seriously made the world of difference for me and this has been one of my happiest winters ever.

To this day, I can’t honestly tell you what made me turn into the gym that Sunday last November, a gym that for 5 years I drove by every day. I was in a really dark place at the time and had put on a lot of weight trying to just cope with life. That day my life changed for the better. I met Bruce the fitness ... To this day, I can’t honestly tell you what made me turn into the gym that Sunday last November, a gym that for 5 years I drove by every day. I was in a really dark place at the time and had put on a lot of weight trying to just cope with life. That day my life changed for the better. I met Bruce the fitness manager who became my trainer for the last year. When I first met him, I was scared as he was enviously someone who took fitness and healthy living seriously. I thought he would judge me and belittle me for allowing myself to become this 212 lbs obese person. The opposite happened he talked about moving forward, that what happened in the past doesn’t define you and he concentrated on the now and my end goal. I learned how to eat properly as I was just eating one meal a day, how to fuel my body, burn fat and build muscle. I also found out that I love lifting weights. I can box squat 215 lbs and leg press 585 lbs :) . The past year have had their challenges but I am down 53 lbs today. I train 4 times a week and do cardio or sleds (my favourite) twice a week, track and log everything I eat. Without the support and motivation of the people around me I would not have succeed. Big thanks to my family for being by my side through this @mikicic_ @gregnitas and Joseph! Thanks to Bruce who puts up with my back talk! Thanks also goes to @junior_timothee my Sunday training buddy, @curtismortimer and @tdotjay who keep me on the straight and narrow at work, @mr_kurtisgreene and @stephfitmum who’s posts has given me motivation to persevere when I wanted to quit. This would lead to frustration and stress. At my consultation I was pleasantly surprised that Imran knew about Sleep Apnea, and also spoke on the importance of getting sleep and most of all decreasing stress. Weight is up this week, however, I just took a look back at my Portland prep and I was .2lbs lighter than my current weight at 10 days out, and I still have over 5 weeks left of this prep; I can come in tighter. This past week/weekend was ROUGH! Hunter had a fever all weekend, and I went over on my fats over the weekend - a little bit of emotional eating. For some reason I just couldn’t say no to the pb, but I logged it and I know that’s why my weight is up. Do I feel guilty? Yeah. However, I just gotta reevaluate my mental mindset and kick it into gear again. Hunter has thrown me for a loop this past weekend, so I was not feeling 100% myself - and neither was he! Anyway, I’m obviously not perfect and I do mess up my macros here and there, but I know what it takes to get back on track and that’s what I’m going to do.

Who has been there?
I know I have, but not for YEARS. I was very bothered the other day because I watched someone’s story (who I unfollowed and who will remain anonymous), and they were showing everything they were eating, talking about the 10 lbs or so of weight that they had gained since last Saturday. SATURDAY. 10lbs in less than 7 days, that’s crazy y’all.
Why do people binge? What I’ve found and from personal experience, is that some of these people are on such restrictive diets that they have that huge urge to binge. I’ve been there. I’ve been on stupid restrictive diets before joining @fitbodyfusion and I’ve binged until I felt sick and it’s an awful feeling.
After Portland, I did go out to dinner after the show, kept it relatively clean, and then had a cheat on Sunday. My weight is up 2 lbs - most likely from my cheat lol, but I got right back on track on Monday and I did not binge. I jump right back on track regardless if I’m prepping for another show or not.
Binging is not worth screwing with your health, because it ultimately does, and it jacks up all your hard work. Your body can only handle so much food at one time, and when you suddenly consume a huge surplus at once, it takes the surplus and stores it as fat. So if you’re someone who thinks it’s funny to show how you binge, what kind of example are you setting? A shitty one.

When losing weight or more specifically bodyfat we don’t just want to lose it, we want to keep it off. Right?

There are many different “Types” of diets that you can accomplish this with. In this post I’ve outlined diets that ARE debatably sustainable! These are not ”Fad diets” Instead these are ways people choose to eat whether it’s due to their beliefs in what’s healthy, animal friendly, their current health condition, eating preferences etc. Although these types of diets can be restrictive in some cases they ARE “sustainable” if you’re dedicated to that way of eating.

But I have a secret to share.

Actually it’s not REALLY a secret it’s science.

Not one of the 6 diets mentioned are technically going to assure weight loss.
_
I have nothing against people that choose to follow these diet types BUT remember- Even if you eat a perfect Keto, Paleo, Intermittent Fasting, Organic, Vegan or Gluten Free diet if your calories are too high you’ll still gain weight.
_
I’m not here to tell you which “Type” of diet to follow. There’s many healthy people that don’t follow any specific type at all- like me. I personally don’t follow any of these methods 100%. Instead I implement different key points from each of them and follow a program tailored to my goals and what works well with MY body.

Bottom line. To lose weight you first and foremost must be in a caloric deficit. After that you can pick and choose the different food choices and diet programs that work well for you, your eating preferences and your lifestyle. #TeamAntGainz

2 years ago- I was in denial, thinking I was healthy, in shape and honestly ate whatever I wanted. No motivation to workout and no goals to live a healthier lifestyle.

I’ve been thrown many curveballs over the past 21 months, but those didn’t keep me down. Some days were so hard and I felt like giving up, but I damn sure didn’t. I value my health. I value my physique. I value the hard work I put into every aspect of my life. Stop telling yourself that you can’t do something, because you can.

If you scroll back in my videos I am very 0-100... real quick 😂😂. I’ve lived that way in other parts of my life too. No more of that crap. It’s okay for me to be 84% or even 15%. #balance
Recently, as many of you know I have been a regular person who may have made it to the gym once a month if I was lucky
So guess what! I’m out of shape! 😳☹️😡🤯 I think the hardest thing for me recently and getting the motivation to walk in a gym again was knowing that I’ll probably never be as strong as I once was. 🧐

My knees creak, I’ve got a knot the size of a golf ball in my back, and everything hurts. 😂. It kind of messes with your mind a little. #excuses

The last #powerlifting meet I competed in was early 2016, which I didn’t even train for... so maybe it’s been over 2 years. CRAP.
Anyways. I’ve been waking up in the middle of the night here recently and was thinking to myself “Sarah, you literally lost over 70lbs and managed to keep it off for over 5 years regardless of your fitness lifestyle!!!! & your disappointed in yourself?! Are you crazy? That’s flipping amazing” 😍😍😍 Why are you getting down on yourself? Why are you insecure about the number you can put up?
Why do you give a shit about what other people think?

My new starting point is on the right. I’m 163 lbs and my short term goals are to run 1 Mile in under 10 minutes, deadlift 315, squat 300, and bench my bodyweight. I also want to be the worlds most mediocre person at #crossfit.
Anyone else sometimes lose sight of what is important in the first place?
Also is the spider bite on my belly going to kill me?

"I began my weight loss journey by making changes to my diet: cutting out soda, alcohol, and junk, adopting the Paleo diet, drinking half my body weight in ounces of water (which was a LOT), and working out every day. All that hard work heIped me lose 30 lbs over 10 months, but strict Paleo just wasn’t sustainable for me and my family. (It’s a LOT of work cooking EVERYTHING from scratch!) My brother and sister-in-law had been using Isagenix for 5 years and had always told me how great it was. Will be more after this holiday weekend is over but that’s mainly water weight and that with damage control comes off in 3-4 days. You have to enjoy the good times and take those necessary breaks. With that said will be starting my new 8-10 week Meal Plan tomorrow Dec 26th like I did last year at the same time and drop as much as I can by my bday and see where we go from there. Big things this year to come. Gonna be looking into skin removal and or surgery as well. Well out with 2017 and in with 2018 was a great year probably the best I’ve ever had truthfully speaking. I gained it everywhere. It was miserable for me. The only thing I miss about being pregnant was feeling the baby’s movement. I’m in no hurry to get pregnant again.
RIGHT PHOTO: Current off-season, improvement season, call it what you want - this is my current, non-prep bod and the most comfortable I’ve felt in my skin during off season in a LONG time. Over the last two years my body went through A LOT. Tremendous weight gain, a big amount of weight loss, and now back to a happy and sustainable weight. Currently 130 lbs - up 12 lbs from stage and I’m very happy.
Be kind to yourself after you’ve had a baby. I know I wasn’t too kind to myself during pregnancy and after when I was losing the weight - lots of crying, lots of feeling ashamed of my weight gain, feeling ashamed of the changes. I’m not the only one who has or who currently is going through this. You have one body, so treat it well and be kind to yourself. #transformationtuesday

Onto my second show prep since becoming a mommy and this time around I thought it would be easier than the first. Uh, no. Tiny toddler tantrums, teething like no one’s business, and cold after cold after cold. I woke up sick this morning - wonderful. Before I had him, I literally did not miss a single workout during prep. Well, now it’s a different story. I’ve already missed a few days of training. I understand how tough prep is when you’re not a parent but jeez is it hard as a parent. You can’t truly understand unless you’ve done this with kids. You can’t just leave and go train whenever you want - there is someone else to think about first, always. For me, I gotta make sure Keith is home for Hunter if I want to train, and going super early in the morning is easiest for me...and waking up at 3:30 when your child isn’t sleeping all night anymore is hard. Exhausting. But going in the evening is even harder because Hunter sucks the life out of me all day and the last thing that sounds fun is training. I tried taking him to the kids club last week and he cried the entire time, then ended up sick. Fuck. I don’t think I’ll ever know what rest feels like ever again. No joke.

Because last week’s check ins I messed up my macros and today’s check ins my macros were on point all week long. I Didn’t miss a workout and my mental game has been stronger. I’ve always lived by the philosophy that food is 80% of the work and workouts are 20% - and I strongly feel like this is true; especially seeing the difference in just one week. Here are my stats from last week and this week:
Weight: 9/4 - 125.2lbs; 9/11 - 122.8lbs
Waist: 9/4 - 26.5”; 9/11 - 26.25”
Hips: 9/4 - 37”; 9/11 - 36”
Thighs: 21.25” (no change)
I’m not afraid to share my experiences because I’m not perfect with my food and I mess up - even on prep. Does it make me feel good when I mess up? Nope. But, it does make me human. Some days are easier than others. Some weeks are easier than others, but I think what I’ve discovered just from the past week alone is to take it one day at a time (even 1 hour at a time when I feel compelled to snack out of boredom or stress - yep I have that bad habit) vs looking at the entire picture and feeing like I’m never going to make it. Making small accomplishments every day will lead to huge results.
