Happy Father’s Day to the best dad anyone could ask for! Dad you are Amazing!! I’m so happy to have you in my life as a guide, a role model, a friend and my hero! After mom divorced and became a single mom when I was still a baby...you came into my life and adopted me as yours when I was three, married mom when I was 7 and we’ve been inseparable ever since! You put the travel bug in my heart and from our fun trips to the Río Pirai (in Bolivia) to our courageous move to Chile for you both to study your Masters in Music to then making a move to the States to give us a better future...all the sacrifices you made to give us a great life....you taught me personal development not from tales or audios but from your sheer belief in positive thinking, even your calling in a parking spot and always finding one, I just love you so much daddy thank you for being my best friend! I wish I could be with you today but although physical distance separates us, my heart and soul are connected to you always! Love you dad Hector Fanor Vargas HAPPY FATHERS DAY! @hexsmart

This is the last year I'm selling my programs.  What??!!
#
Let's start from the beginning.  What do you want to be when you grow up? I'll be 35 this year and that's a question I finally figured out.
#
When I as 18 I flew planes. I still beam seeing a Cessna152.  Then 9-11 happened.  I moved to Cali and did outside sales,  making 6 figures at the young age of 19. I then got married, moved and became a loan officer. Moved again and became a realtor.  Moved again and got a job creating business plans and financial forecasts for owners.  Then....started my own company. Scary! But, as the years have gone by I've felt so blessed.  Because i have been able to open up,  share my story,  heal,  grow,  help women to love themselves and balance their hormones.  And that's the part I love.... working with women.  I don't care about the fitness industry. I've always felt like I don't belong in it (aside from my wardrobe being 100% active wear) 😜! I know working out and diets don't make women happy. Learning to love yourself,  learning to accept your body,  nourishing your body,  being active in the ways you want (rollerskating anyone?!), and making cookies with your kids.... that's where happiness comes from.
#
So.... I'm buying an apartment building with my hard-earned savings and retiring. I'm going to adventure with my kids,  bake cookies,  travel the world,  skydive,  volunteer in my local community,  go to pta meetings (ok probably not that) and if i want to avoid social media for a month and live in the jungle with my kids... I WILL. I'm simply going to be ME.
#
The only thing I'm going to miss is you.  You amazing women who have purchased my programs and supported me and my little family.  Who have cried with me and messaged me your trials and triumphs.  Over the next few months I'm going to turn this into my personal account.  Sharing all my travel adventures and mom moments. Ill still share my headaches and breakthroughs too.  Feel free to stick around if you'd like.  And from the bottom of my heart....THANK YOU. The years of support are appreciated more than I can express in a post.
P.s. All of my programs will be available until the end of year. ❤
Xoxo

My dear Eva and the cutie @ameliathecav tag me to share a photo of my personal #photographer ( #meettheohotographer #pupparazzi challenge) assistant of my IG account (with my grinchy paws I won't to be able to reply to all of my paw friends comments... That's a real struggle 😤☹️). My mom-assistant-carrier (she's a real multitasking person...) is 30 years old, she's married with my bearded dad, they're both from Italy(from the prosecco wine area 😎), she's vegan and addicted to mcm's furnitures. She's a freelancer graphic design and she relocated in NYC cause my dad's job(architect). I would love to tag my friends @cuzaliers @itsmeoliver @audreyanderson @harrybeamteam @nicorrina0722 @sky_blue_skies @furrybillmurray @alimiaka @zoeybrunoandoliver of my pawfriends. ❤️💕❤️

Sorry for the lack of activity. But, there is much going on atm, some things that I can't do anything about, even if I want to, other things that will change my life. Me and Jack are getting married, but I'm not sure if my father will be there because of his illness Sorry for the lack of activity.
But, there is much going on atm, some things that I can't do anything about, even if I want to, other things that will change my life. Me and Jack are getting married, but I'm not sure if my father will be there because of his illness </3
Soon I'll also move down to Stockholm again. It's not the best time to leave Piteå right now but, I think I need to be close to my Jack because of everything that's happening. And I can always return to visit my mom whenever I want!
So, because of the preparations for the wedding, and everything else, I'll probably not be so active until everything has calmed down a bit. Thank you for understanding!

It was a separation...emotional like a birth, death, or marriage, or divorce. I found myself...by myself. Truly. For the first time ever. No man in my life, and no heavily padded bank account, and no more excuses to fall back on. Just me. Responsible for another human being. An amazing human being. My daughter👸 at the age of truly seeing life. Watching every choice I make. I found myself separated from the life I grew up thinking I was supposed to have. Here....you go to school, get married, he works at a plant, you have kids...they play sports. 🏈You are well mannered in public, and with acquaintances, but you let loose with your friends. 😂 My "neck of the woods" is wonderful. The trees are beautiful, the lakes are amazing, the air is thick, and we even love the beach. Not the prettiest ever...but it's ours! So many others never see the sea. I realized tonight that I am truly grateful. I didn't follow the conventional life choices of my hometowns. Single at 35 is still frowned upon by grandmothers and some mothers here. Single at this age is odd, awkward, but fun. This day in age we have Social Media! ➡➡Insert busy single mom!! My social network became friends I "hang out with". Groups and message groups...texts and messages from people I never would've met! My personal life is full of amazing people. My kiddo. My family. My friends. My coworkers. My pets. Now I have friends from around the world in all time zonesthat I've met through social media. Amazing! I am grateful to wake up and do what I love EVERY DAMN DAY. I get paid 💰💰 to do what I love!!! I went through my home tonight and blessed everything. Every box, every cabinet, all the furniture...everything. I breathed good intentions into everything. Thanking everything for being in my life. I want this new Chapter to be about raising life's vibration. Gratitude. Peace. I want all that come into my home to be blessed! 🌌 I'm so happy to have all of you in my life...whether or not I've ever seen you in person...we're all connected. Your posts and pics impact my day. I hope my social media family is blessed too. #gratitude #blessed #love

It may look like all I do is cake life away but in all reality 2017 was pretty rough on the cake front! •

I work a full time job as a manager of a retail store that just turned corporate beginning of 2017, I create lovely cakes and desserts for some amazing clients... oh and did I mention I got married to my best friend this year too! Probably one of the most stressful years I’ve ever had but looking back I wouldn’t change a damn thing! All the tears, headaches and sleepless nights were all worth it 🖤

Thanks to my incredible family and friends for the support they give me every single day! My husband, my dad, my best friend, and the lady I couldn’t do any of this without my mom @thebakerandthebarista ! None of these delicious desserts would be possible without her being my right hand gal! •

With all that being said in 2018 I’d like to share more, post more and grow more as a business! I should also get the good dozen plus photos of amazing cakes I have hidden in my phone posted soon! Hope your all ready! 🙌🏼

Well, this is a little bit late but the command finally put these pictures up. Anyways, 2017 was really hard for me. While, I try to stay positive for the most part, in many ways it was the worst year I've ever had, on a personal level. I had to face some difficult challenges I never thought I'd have to deal with and I'm still working through some of those challenges on the flip side over here in 2018. But there were good parts of 2017 too, and they can't be discounted. I traveled with my grandmother, I got to go home more than once, I saw one of my best friends get married, I saw my sister graduate high school, I took my good pal Barry to many new states, my mom and I galavanted around the east coast... life is about these moments. It's easy to dwell on the bad things that happen in your life, it's easy to wallow in the stuff that keeps you up at night, but on the 29 of December, 2017, I became a 2nd class petty officer in the United States Navy and all of the hard days I had that year seemed just a little bit better. There are too many people who helped me along the way to thank them all, but I would have never gotten to this point without my family, friends, and mentors who have supported me through my years in the Navy so far. I'm sure you all know who are. Here's to the rest of 2018 and to making the best of every day in the world's greatest Navy. #navy #2ndclass #hooyah

While I may be crazy busy outside of the blog, somehow ya'll still love following me! So, I figured it was time to re-introducd myself to all the new followers out there.... Hey, my names Gaby, short for Gabriella. I am the chef/writer behind Beyond the Bite. My site originally started through my quest to find optimal health while battling chronic Lyme Disease and its co-factors. To this day, I still battle its affects, but have found real food, as well as conventional and functional medicine, to aid significantly in healing.

Here are a few things you may have not known about me:

1. I live in the Nashville area, where I graduated with my degree in culinary arts. I am now the chef/owner of my own health-centered personal chef/meal prep/catering business @acleanslatecatering. Im planning on returning to school in the near future to pursue my goal of becoming a PA.
2. Not super interesting to some, but come June I will be officially married to my love @chefmez. I'm also a bonus-mom to two little ones, aka the best taste-tester/food critics a chef could ever have.
3. I love to sing. May not sound the greatest, but I love it. I believe it helped a lot with my healing. It taught me how to breath deeply again, something I stopped doing due to being in such severe, chronic pain. So yes, singing. It truly is so good for the mind + body + spirit folks.
4. I have a thyroid disorder that benefits greatly from a ketogenic approach to my diet. While there is much controversy about the negative effects keto can have on women's hormones, I can personally attest to how this is not the case for all. If this is something you're interested in, check out @healthfulpursuit and her recent book. It's an amazing resource!
5. I used to be an avid tennis player (pre-Lyme). Life got away with me and I never seemed to re-unite with the sport, but I still love it nonetheless. When I think of tennis, I think of the young, athletic, healthy, independent, stronger-than-nails girl I was growing up. This inspires me to keep going and helps me when I feel my illness is getting the best of me.

That's it ya'll, thanks for stopping by!

You know sometimes you made these terrible choices in life that leads you to something really horrible in the end? I said 'no' last night when my mom told me she's coming to pick me up at the airport, grabbed a Grabcar instead, went in the passenger seat next to the driver as I always did. The guy seems normal. Until he started asking all the personal questions that left me rather uncomfortable. Then he started talking about how he had been married for 12 years but haven't had a kid yet, and how he is really interested in getting another wife cos all guys wanna do that (his words not mine). He started touching his legs but I was too scared to look where exactly. I was so freaked out I decided to call my housemate but she didn't pick up. I then texted my male bff, Zuri, to call. Thank goodness both my housemate and Zuri called. I totally ignored the driver when he asked me "where is your real house" cos I have told him repeatedly to drop me at a mosque. I guess I was saved from the creep. But I also get to hear a 5-minute speech from Zuri on how I should have shared the driver's info with him. Thank you Zuri. I love you. You saved me. Thank you for being my Mirka. Sorry I can't be your Roger lol. This is a dedication post on how awesome you are. I will treat you better after this, I promise! Hahaha

Typically I don't talk much about myself, but there are so many new beautiful faces around here, I thought I'd hop on the #fridayintroductions bandwagon! Hello and welcome. I'm Melissa, Bay Area dweller, mommy, and photographer. Those are a few basics :) Now here are ten things you very likely do not know about me.

1. I moved to the Bay Area in 2012, merely days after getting married, to attend a bilingual (Spanish) teaching credential program.
2. I waddled my way through commencement at 25 weeks pregnant with twins (but looked more like 40 weeks).
3. I am addicted to podcasts. Some of my favs are The Moth, Sincerely X, How I Built This, TED EVERYTHING, Hidden Brain, Longest Shortest Time, S-town (listened to that waaaay too many times), the list goes on.
4. In a former life (i.e., pre-kids) I traveled alone a lot. Just me and my camera.
5. I love documenting/documented narrative in all its forms. Journaling. Videography. Photography (duh). Storytelling. Memoirs. Documentary films. I could eat that shit up all day.
6. That reminds me. I swear too much.
7. Three words: resting bitch face. When I try to avoid it, I end up looking like a total crazy-eyed lunatic, so I'm embracing it.
8. Not a *fun* fact, but my truth: I beat myself up a lot. My physical self-loathing is in check due to raising two little ladies (the VERY last thing our society needs is more girls regularly taught to hate their bodies, amirite?). My demons manifest in severe anxiety from comparing myself all the time; am I a good enough friend? Partner? Mom? Photographer? Customer at the grocery store? You get the idea.
9. I'm a natural-born entrepreneur. At the age of nine, I had a thriving Jolly Rancher lunch-time resale business. It was great until my teacher found out and foiled the whole operation.
10. I was born in Fresno, CA and lived in poverty and trauma for a lot of my childhood. The lessons I've learned from those struggles have turned me into the spirited misfit I am today. For better or worse.

If you read all this and still want to know more about my (photographic & personal) journey, & all the lessons I've learned along the way, subscribe to the Icarian newsletter. Link in profile.

Hey 👋🏻 there. I don’t post a lot of selfies or talk about myself much here so I thought I would share some things about me you may not know:
.
- I’m married to my first love from 11 years ago and we are parents to a handsome blue heeler named Roscoe
- We traveled to 43 states and Canada by truck last year. For more details follow our blog: www.lovegrowsroots.com
- My last meal on earth would definitely involve sushi, cookies, and a burrito.
- Beachbody workouts are my passion. Easy to follow, don’t have to go anywhere and can achieve results. Not a gym person. .
- My mom is also a cosmetologist and is the best person with the biggest heart that I know. .
- Favorite place to be in the world is the beach. .
- I enjoy cooking. I make 8279 different kinds of tacos pretty much every week because they’re easy. .
- I bet you I could beat you in a hot sauce challenge
- I’ve gone to 2-4 concerts a year since I was 14 but no longer have the desire to get hot and sweaty and push to the front 😬
- When I first got into makeup I was 10 and obsessed with roll on glitter so much that it was all over me all the time 😜
- Nose highlight...Just no. 🤥🤭
- Ballet, tap, competitive cheerleading, softball, dance team, swimming and basketball are all sports I grew up with and enjoyed a lot. .
- I have a half brother who’s 21 this year
- My hair has been red for over 10 years minus a few months last year and I plan on keeping it this way
- Knee surgery on both knees when I was 11
- Usually always wearing black even though my favorite colors are jewel tones.
- Literally have to schedule time to wash my hair. Can you relate?
- Eating disorder and skin cancer survivor .
- I have a piano, two acoustic guitars, and a ukulele and I plan on learning at least one of them..one day.
- I’m obsessed with singing (alone and not in front of anyone) and it’s the only thing that can really ground me
- Biggest pet peeve: loud open mouth chewers
- My dream job: traveling around the world teaching hair & makeup techniques & personal shopping/organizing
.
Thanks for following my journey! Looking forward to learning more about u!!

Let’s get up close & personal- last week I had a friend tell me in a round about way, “don’t compare your season in life with someone else’s season.” Guys, it’s so true! Let’s get up close & personal- last week I had a friend tell me in a round about way, “don’t compare your season in life with someone else’s season.”
Guys, it’s so true! All of our stories are unique and different from the next. I remember last year, a few friends who were close to me were pregnant & had babies, I wanted to be in their shoes. This year I’ve been pregnant & sick & uncomfortable and so many friends are healthy & in the best shape of their lives or achieving fitness/nutrition goals and I want to be healthy, feeling good and running a half marathon this summer. (Ehh who needs recovery after a c-section after all Ha ha. 😜)
I know that once this baby comes I’ll be in a totally new season of life (I haven’t been a newborn Mom for 4+ years!) and it’ll be totally different from a lot of my friends and family. But I’m learning that life is not a race or competition, but a journey. Comparison is natural, we learn it when we’re little (I see Elle do it constantly). In a way it’s how we gauge ourselves.. but why do we gauge how we’re doing and our successes on other people? It doesn’t make sense because no one is the same as you, no one has the same strengths and weaknesses or are in the exact same season as you. Comparison just makes us feel less than and I’m here to say that no one is “less than”. We are all unique and lovely and pure gold- pregnant or not. Married or not. Empty nesters or tons of young kids. Healthy or not. Financially secure or not. We are all solid gold.
My goal is to enjoy my season, without comparing or feeling bad about what I can’t do, don’t have or am missing out on. Because my season (and your season) is special. And the fastest way to kill it, is to compare it to something else. I hope you’ll find peace & joy in your season and I’ll do the same in mine. ❤️

Over the years, our clients have carried so many unique clutches of flowers. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
Some flowers represented the season they were married, or the location. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
Others were more personal— a bride included the same flower types that her mom, who had passed way, carried on her wedding day. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
Another bride of ours carried flowers from her grandmothers garden. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀

Hey babe. 👋🏼 Yes, you! The one creepin’ on my page every once in a while. I don’t see you but I know you’re there. Because many times my new customers tell me things like “I don’t know how, but I found your account and have followed you for a while.” The Internet is crazy like that. It’s not an accident you’re here. The Universe is super fucking awesome and deserves a lot of credit. I’m Kristina- with a K. Married the absolute love of my life and have two amazing kids. I graduated from the University of Miami with a degree in Business with two minors - English Lit and another I can’t for the life of me remember. That’s the kind of memory I have. 😂 I always knew I wanted to be a lawyer. So I did that. And did it well from what I understand and made Partner at my firm. I mostly practiced personal injury litigation specializing in medical malpractice and aviation disasters. Super fuckin’ awesome. 😳 Three years into lawyering my sister who is a fitness super freak became a Coach and I decided it was a good idea to join her. Because I changed my own eating habits and fitness while being a super busy Mom-Wife-Lawyer I thought other people needed this too. 4 years ago almost to the day (May 16th to be exact) I was able to retire from the law and continue growing our incredible Team and business helping others through this awesome Company. And THIS year we have the tools to truly help EVERY SINGLE PERSON in any stage of heir life. To hard core fit freaks to those who need a slower pace. So YOU. I got you. Never feel afraid to reach out and ask for help. If I hadn’t, my life would look completely different. Here to serve!

I suppose I have had enough loss in my own life that it has somehow feels disingenuous to address the death of public person whom I do not know personally. The news of Kate Spade’s passing hit me hard yesterday and I am still consumed with thoughts of it today. As an art student I can say no artist or designer had a greater effect on me or informed my personal aesthetic than Kate Spade. Her happy, chic twist on classic styles has permeated my wardrobe and home for the last twenty years. Not a day or an event passes where I do not have one of her designs on my person. When my son was married last year, I did not have to go dress shopping - I went to my closet and pulled out my trusty blue cupcake dress with cardigan and glitter pumps that had served me well for so many happy occasions. To be so comfortable in an outfit and to feel so pretty made me even happier on a happy day. I struggled deeply this winter with signs of depression brought on by side effects of some medications. I am only now starting to feel like myself again. The world is a scary place sometimes but Kate Spade made things colourful and lively and reminded me to eat cake for breakfast. Today I put Theodore in my bike basket and we went for a ride in the sunshine and I thought about the aspirational lifestyle the Kate Spade brand was to me when I was a single mom of two kids who dreamed at night of wearing cute dresses and riding a vintage bicycle around New York City. I couldn’t afford anything from the line back then and when I finally broke down and bought some used sunglasses at a second hand store, it was a massive splurge for me. They gave me some armour when I needed to feel chic and brave. I still wear them often. I do hope her family can find peace at this difficult time and I know she is irreplaceable. She sprinkled confetti wherever she went ♠️ May She Rest In Peace.

I took the past week off from social media for some much needed personal time with family and friends. My mom retired (yay!) and one of my best friends got married (yay again!) so I’ve been enjoying being back in California and living a somewhat normal paced life for the first time in a long time!

On another note, I’m wearing a new @galmeetsglam dress and @barefootblondehair— both of these brands are the passion product lines of two female bloggers I look up to tremendously. As a fellow blogger, it’s really amazing to see the success of these women as they create beautiful, game-changing products that are in direct response to their audiences’ requests. It’s serious goals and I’m so proud to support them. Be sure to check them out! (I’m wearing “Sandy Blonde“ extensions and the dress is “Abigail.”)

I am breaking my private person rule and posting a selfie and a few personal facts about me for all of my new followers! Okay let’s see.. I am 34, have been an artist since I can recall being alive. This February I will turn 35 and also celebrate 15 years of tattooing. I am married to another tattoo artist, @ulyss_blair and we have two cats! We both own @allegoryarts which is an art gallery and also tattoo studio. I am originally from New York but not the big apple! Coffee rules my world and I love to travel. I have very strong empathic tendencies which can make working at conventions a challenge, but I am learning to navigate those waters. I’ve been drawn to the occult and witchcraft since early childhood (sorry mom! ❤️) one of my aunts was a practicing light worker and shaman. Currently I’ve been listening to a lot of Stan Getz and Drab Majesty. I gain most of my inspiration while out in nature, when my mind is most quiet. If I could offer any advice today, it would be to be yourself and follow your bliss no matter how much it scares you. 🖤

We just finally got a real headshot and figured it would be a good time to introduce or reintroduce ourselves. (We know some of you will not need this information. Hi mom.) Berkley Illustration, aka us, is the married team of Ryan and Lucy Berkley. We work from our home studio in the woodsy southwest of Portland, Oregon. Ryan draws everything. He is completely self-taught and mostly uses markers and colored pencils but has been branching out into digital drawing. He'd like to paint more too and the digital tools are help giving him more confidence in that area. Lucy manages the business and also does design and photography.
Creatively speaking, we mesh very well. Lucy is a big picture brain-stormer and Ryan is a details guy. When we're working a new project, Lucy usually throws Ryan about 15 ideas and Ryan takes from those and fine tunes them into finished works. Come to think of it, that's really how it works in our personal life too.
We have two kids: Ramona, age 6 and Linus, age 3. We've been very lucky to both be home during their young years and holy crap we love them to infinity but as you might imagine, it's also a big test of time and patience. As they're getting older, we're looking forward to pushing ourselves back out into the art world more and trying some new and different things. (We've been creating our signature animal portraits for almost 12 years!) Some other fun facts: we're a vegan family, our front yard is full of weeds, we have a cute and stinky epileptic dog named Walker, Ryan is a super comic book nerd, Lucy loves roadside attractions, and we're really hoping to write a children's book.

In today’s two-part #mamalifeseries, we speak to Annet Bruil, Lead Designer for social design at a strategic design consultancy focused to create new and better futures. I was fortunate enough to get the opportunity to work with this mama - albeit for too short a while! 😊

1. Tell us your name and where you’re from.
I am from the Netherlands and came to Singapore more than 5 years ago. My husband and I decided to get married and accept his job offer in Singapore, as I saw many exciting opportunities for applying design strategy in Singapore. As a designer, I want to use my skills to benefit the society; so instead of designing a new phone or advertisement that encourages consumerism, I design product service systems that make people healthier, better, stronger. I am interested in why people behave the way they do and apply heuristics to steer behaviour. I thrive best when I am researching and designing for a group of people that I hardly understand from my personal background, for example juvenile youth or people from very different cultural background, as they teach me so much from their world views.
.
.
2. Can you share some of the flexible work practices your company adopts?
At my company, I work 4 days a week as I am a young mom with a daughter of 6 months. I feel that this is a company that trusts their employees and I can also work from home when client work allows. I have a nanny that takes care of my daughter when I am working so I can often get more things done at home. Although nice and important as well, I don’t have the distraction of chatting with colleagues and feeding my daughter is much quicker (besides more pleasant) than pumping my milk at the office. I feel lucky that my company appreciates my different priorities.
.
.
Stay tuned for Part II, mamas! ❤

About 12 years ago, I was dating my next door neighbor (don’t ever do that, btw, that’s not smart). I threw a party and @nophonenoah brought his older sister, @givemeanh . My sister, @stephaniefreberg, who was at the party, wanted to know which girl I was dating - because I kept talking to Holly and ignoring my neighbor. A year later, Holly and I finally went on our first date. I knew right away it was time to cut the crap and lock her down forever, so after six months of dating, I proposed on my birthday. We got married six months after that. We’ve been happily married 10 years and have been through all sorts of things. We lived with my parents for two years while we started her dance business, we had two beautiful girls, we walked her dad through his last days with cancer and we moved across the country (at her insistence, not mine) to follow my dreams. Everyday I wake up so grateful for our lives together. She’s my personal cheerleader and the best mom to Hazel and Juliette. Happy ten years, babes, I love you! #tenyearsmarried

So excited that there are so many new friends here and it has been awhile since I introduced myself. Welcome! I am so glad you are here and I am thankful that we get to wander together creatively.
My name is Jeanne Oliver and I grew up in rural Illinois and now reside in Castle Rock, CO. I was talked out of art school so I did the next logical thing and majored in psychology and history. I believe we get second and third chances to walk out our giftings and my life has been a testament to that. So, don’t lose hope if you missed some things the first time around.
I met my husband while working and living in Washington D.C. I spotted him in a bar and professed to my friends that I just saw my future husband. Three months later we were engaged and eight months after meeting we were married.
One year into marriage we got pregnant with our Jack and not long after that we moved to Colorado. Two years later our Madolyn was born and then four years later our Benjamin.
Somehow I ended up homeschooling our kids from the beginning and it has actually worked for us, our family and our business. I have kids that will read Malcolm Gladwell with me ☺ and also travel all over the world with us. Our oldest recently went to college and I am slowing adjusting to that reality.
When it comes to my art I am inspired by our personal stories, travel, and nature. I use art to tell my current stories and also those of growing up among gravel roads, cornfields and early life surrounded by open spaces. Through mark making, layers and mixed media, I hope to convey that we all have a story to tell.
With my whole heart I believe I am married to my dream maker, Kelly, and that being a mom is my greatest adventure.

I was told that I needed to find that one thing but I don’t like listening to directions so I embrace many loves and that has given me a sweet mash-up of family, art, and travel.
Connecting with women and sharing that each of us has been creatively made is one of my greatest passions. #jeanneoliver #jeanneolivercreativenetwork #jeanneoliverstudios

My sister Jen is brilliant , beautiful inside and out , is married to a successful man that loves her to death and has two precious children , a girl and a boy. I’m proud to say she’s half #armenian, and love there culture. She came to visit me at my new salon I started working at for now 3 months. I barely met her 9 years ago 😳. The reason I barely met her 9 years ago was because my dad had found my mom through the internet. I also barely met my mom 9 years ago. My mom left my dad and I when I was 1 years old. They both have 2 sided stories. So I may never know truly why this happened to me but having faith in God and have trusted in Him has brought me peace. After I met my mom 9 years ago , I wasn’t ready to get close to her yet. But nearly 6 years ago when I got married I wanted to get close to her and it was too late. I called my sister Jennifer to invite them to my wedding but she told me my mom only had 6 months to live. She got diagnosed with cancer. 😪😢. It was really sad and 💔. But I know my mom would be very happy that my sister and I are getting closer. I know I would be closer to her if we lived closer. But she lives in 🏜🌵 Joshua tree so it’s kind of hard to see each other that much. I also have a brother 🙎🏽‍♂️too that I barely met around the same time. So crazy how what you thought your life was , can be turned 🙃upside down in a minute and to find out you have more family is life changing. I thought this whole time I was the only child and would never have a brother and sister. But feels great to know I have a sister and more family I can get close too. This is just a little background of my life and I hardly put my personal life out there but I think this is a truly amazing miracle to share with you guys how God brings people into your life in His time. I believe He makes all things beautiful in His time. Looking forward to my new journey with my sister. - THE END✨✨✨✨

————————————————————
🤔 During the past week I realized how much of my challenge as an 🎨🖋 artist has been intertwined with the greatest challenge of my life: motherhood. 🤹🏻‍♀️ Motherhood is riddled with insecurities along with the guilt of almost constant uncertainty with regard to knowing what is best for 💕 you and your child.
————————————————————
For those of you who don’t know, I became an adoptive mom of two when I married a widower. And then a mom of three with 🤰🏻the birth of our youngest son one year later. 👪
————————————————————
Aside from motherhood and being a professional artist, I have always felt 💯 confident in my capabilities and opportunities — even as it required the mindset of a 🤸🏼‍♀️ trapeze artist at times! And even as I hop-scotched around various career changes! 😉 ————————————————————
But the unexpected role of becoming an “instant Mom” — transitioning from a full-time 💼 career to full-time mom and part-time career pursuits felt like living inside out all the time. 😱 And then working as an artist?! Whoa!
————————————————————
❤️ Braveheart, it is my hope that you, too, will allow whatever {you} need to liberate yourself in your creative expression. ❤️ That you will see the beauty and strength in your personal tapestry — and remind yourself that you are definitely not the only one who feels [...] You are not alone. 💞 ————————————————————

This past weekend was a true testament that family is EVERYTHING. I am so blessed to be the sister and daughter of such remarkable women! We used to make fun of you because you studied the least out of the three of us...and yet here you are obtaining your Doctorate from USC. Your relentless work ethic and passion for education is so inspiring...I can’t wait to see what you’ll do next! Keep up the awesome work and I have no doubt you will reach greatness in all you do! And to my mom...the strongest woman in our family...we wouldn’t be where we are now in our lives if it weren’t for your guidance and wisdom. Raising three daughters...each with a mind of their own...can’t be easy. But you continue to be understanding and encouraging in each of our personal journeys in life...we couldn’t ask for a better mother. Sorry for another year that has gone by and I’m still not married. Instagram just gives a tiny little snapshot, so I wanted to get to know you a bit better on this post, in case you’re new to my page! Here we go... I’m originally from CDA, Idaho ⛰ but I’m currently living in Dallas, TX. I’ve been married 👰🏽 for 2.5 years and our daughter, Brighton 👶🏽 is 14 months old. We think our rescue pup, 🐶 Charley (@rescuegoals ) is almost 4 years old. I studied print journalism ✏️ (newspaper, magazine, etc) at the University of Idaho. (Go Vandals!) I was the first person in my family to go to college and paid for all of it myself. I’ve been waking up at 2 or 3:00 am 🌅 to anchor or report for morning shows for the past 11 years. (No, you never get used to it!) I’ve been working in tv news 📺 for almost 15 years! I typically watch equal parts network/cable news and reality tv. My first job in news was as a writer/producer/TelePrompTer operator in Yakima, WA. Right now I’m working on @morningdosetv . The summer of my 21st birthday, I interned in NYC for @foxnews . My philanthropic passion is for literacy ❤️ (if you can read and educate yourself — you can do ANYTHING). I saved my money for college by working with my mom as a housekeeper and eventually getting a job as a dishwasher at 🌮 Taco Bell. My favorite color is... and always has been 🍊 orange. I love doing anything outdoors - hiking, snowboarding, camping, biking, rafting and exploring! We even went hiking for my bachelorette 🎉 party. I’ve held a personal training / group fitness certification for 14 years and while I no longer train clients, I love trying new fitness adventures and classes. I’m a recovered perfectionist - saved from my own battle with an eating disorder by God’s grace and a lot of treatment. I love to sing but am terrible. (I auditioned for show choir in middle school but didn’t make it and didn’t even tell anyone I auditioned - you might be the first to know that...) 🎶 I’m a sucker for a 😍 national park. My favorite news stories are the ones that 🙌🏽inspire and bring hope! My favorite phrase is simply “good morning” because indeed it is ☀️

HELLO TO MY NEW AND OLD FOLLOWERS!
Long post warning!! Please take a min (or a few lol) to read!!
Hi! I’m Hejira Aka Coach HJ! I’ve been on IG about 6 years now as a health coach and professional certified trainer but also as a mom, sister, friend...! Honesty/ transparency moment.... Lately, I’ve been struggling with my “IG identity”! Boy, I tell ya trying to figure out what my followers want is a full time job 🤔🤷🏽‍♀️🤣 So I’ve thrown my hands up 🙌🏾 I’m all the above! This is me... take it or (stick around and just watch 🤣). I’m a 38 yr old, mother of 6, ages 22 to 6 months. I use to be a Paralegal in corporate real estate but I hated working in an office and I always knew I wanted my own business doing something I was passionate about and making a difference some how. I found my passion about 6 years ago after joining the Herbalife business and started inspiring others to make healthier lifestyle choices leading to living happier lives and loving their bodies more just by my own journey! ❤️💪🏾 (Yes I still use Herbalife products and recommend to my clients w/ no pressure because idc what u use to get YOUR results as long as you do something, this is what I use cuz I love it and the results my clients and I get!) My page is just who I am as honestly as I can put me out to the social media world! THANK YOU FOR THE LOVE AND SUPPORT OVER THE YEARS! Thank you for watching...my babies grow up, maybe even watching me go from married to divorced to in love again, for going from a job to a business, for fitness, for mommy life, for having fun with family and friends...! Whatever you watch for... THANK YOU! I’m grateful for every friend and client I’ve met and lost along the way!! Thank you for only the few creeps who occasionally slide in my DMs cuz I’m not bout it! 😑 But truly thank you to the amazing messages I get from the ppl I inspire, motivate and inform! I love and appreciate YOU more than you know!! Sometimes your message come RIGHT ON TIME when I need to be reminded why I share what I share both professional and personal! 💛💚 STAY TUNED! #trainwithHJ #hjsjourney #fitmom #momlife #thisisme #justloveme

(Warning: The following quote includes sensitive content regarding a personal story of sexual abuse) “I was 13 years old when I became pregnant. My parents separated when I was around 11. Soon after, my mother met a man from out of state and after a few months or so he moved in with us. That is when our lives forever changed. My mom gave all of us up for this man, and my siblings and I were all separated and went to live in different places. I moved in with an older cousin of mine. She was married with four little girls that I would always help babysit. Her husband was my sexual abuser and it went on often and for long periods of time. Their oldest daughter wasn’t much younger than me, so we would all sleep in the same bedroom. I can remember him waking me up from my sleep in the middle of the night, and taking me to abandoned streets to do as he pleased with me. I was afraid to tell anyone because, based on my circumstances, I felt this must be what I deserve. This was the beginning of feeling insecure, alone, and hopeless.” —designer Taylor Jay (pictured with her daughter Brenda, now 24) shares her both heartbreaking & inspiring story, today on #mothermag @shoptaylorjay 📷: @new.capturez

Out of the many personality tests that exist, this ones hit so close to home. I am a Rebel, through & through. Mom says she remembers at church once, I was probably 5 & the pastor asked everyone to stand. I DID NOT want to stand, but somehow my Mother convinced me to, so I said “I’m standing on the outside, but I am SITTING DOWN on the inside” (sound like any 5 year old we know, Nathan? 😉😂) Surprisingly though, I wasn’t a rebellious teen. For the most part, I was considerate & kind to authority figures - but I think a massive part of that is that my parents raised me knowing that I needed to do things in my own unique way, in my own timing, & on my terms. One time, I wanted to dye my hair red, just for fun and my Mom said “sure! Let me be with you when you do it.” I wanted a belly button piercing 🤦‍♀️ & Mom (who truly did not want me to get one and could have said “ABSOLUTELY NO”) instead said “you know, I think your face would be perfect for a nose ring.” When i wanted to get married at a VERY young age, she & my Dad said that given my personality (and how well Nathan took care of me) that it made far more sense for me to grow up & old with someone instead of getting set in my very strong willed ways and and THEN getting married. WHAT?! I guess they had me all figured out. 😂 Even though my personal style was always a bit different & free spirited, I never felt the pressure from my family to dress or look a certain way. I think that has a lot to do with my own sense of confidence, & the way I run my own business to this day. Yes, it likely drives most responsible Upholders and Obligers crazy when observing how i function or more specifically, how I REFUSE to function, and it perplexes them that other people’s opinions of me don’t run my choices. Yes, it comes across as selfish many times - and failing to adult properly 😂 BUT in my defense, we rebels truly are forces of nature. When we WANT to do something because we believe in the cause, we are unstoppable. Fist-bumps to my fellow Rebels today!👊 let’s get lots of stuff done (only if we want to, of course)😉 #betterthanbefore

Sometimes you just have to give credit where it’s due, or overdue: As many of you already know. My dad has always been my idol. I've always looked up to him and probably always will. I post pictures about him, love hearing stories about him, and just really like learning new things about him from new people because I really never got to know him as a man. The fact is he was just taken too soon but he will always be larger than life in my eyes. What you don't hear about is probably someone in my family that has been overlooked the most. Not overlooked in the sense that she is ignored, but does not always get the credit that she deserves. That would be my Mom. I always knew from my personal experience that losing my Dad was a terrible tragedy, but as I've aged, gotten married, ect, I'm not sure anyone understands the magnitude of what kind of position that put my Mom into, except for my Mom. She was pregnant with Nicole with my sister and I, at ages of 12 and 9, in a recently remodeled home with a decent sized payment, and she just lost her protector, provider, her husband of 14 years. As a 9 year old, my life completely changed as I knew it, but I was totally oblivious to the decisions and steps my Mom had to take, from selling the house and moving, to basically starting a new life. Having to take on a new role as the only parent in the house. Long story made short, not everything went well, not everything was easy, and there was plenty of struggles from the time after my Dad passed away, but now looking back. I am very proud for how my Mom was able to stay strong, keep her composure, and give us kids the tools and guidance for a future. She has always been there for us every step of the way, and I really don't want to take that for granted. I don't always agree with my Mom; she worries way too much, and asks way too many questions, (what good Mom doesn’t) but I can't really do anything but respect my Mom for what she has overcome in her life. I don't often express it, but I love ya Mom. Thanks for being my Mom #payyourrespects #thankful

Fast-forward 30 years.. it’s 2018, my husband and I walked in to a dealership with no expectations (not much to offer), and came out with a 2015 TOYOTA YARIS!
Living in the South, having a vehicle is almost necessary to thrive in society. In undergrad I lived between the bus/carpool/pedestrian/moped life.
In my gap-year while I worked for AmeriCorps, personal transportation became necessary, therefore my mom gave me her car (which many of you know I nicknamed “Grunkle” because the car was old and noisy like a grandpa, and loyal like an uncle). Grunkle started living on prayers a couple of years ago. I’d pray to God before turning the car on, and thanked Him every time I parked, because He knew we didn’t have the funds at the time to fix Grunkle- much less get a new car. But then our family became carless New Years Eve, when Grunkle seemingly gave its last push. For a month we felt the pressures of not having our own personal transportation. Yet, we also felt the love and friendship that came with the struggle. Friends started offering us rides, mechanics, options, and suggestions without hesitation (y’all are angels). We’ve been talking about getting me a car since I first started college back in 2012, we figured it’s about time we do the research at least. And now we have a CAR! This is still so surreal to me. Having a new car was only real in conversations; a conversation that’s been happening for 6 years. And now I’m actually driving around town jamming to my favorite tunes that’s on my phone connected through Bluetooth!
As for Grunkle, since we weren’t counting on getting a new car, we got a mechanic-friend to help us revive the family car. And I’m happy to say that as of last night, Grunkle is now fully functional, and I have officially given the keys back to my mom.
The family of four that shared one semi-reliable car has now become: the family of two married couples each having their own reliable transportation, ready to tackle the world! GOD IS GOOD! 🚙💨💕 #blessed #newyearnewcar #toyota #firstcar

She wanted to make this day memorable and special for him. Here’s what she shared with me: (she’s ok with me sharing it) .
....We got married at the Budir Church the day before and the florist that lives in Iceland (who is now a very close friend) knew the land owners where the aircraft is located. She kindly asked for me if we could possibly drive to plane. Our florist got permission from the man who owns the land, but in order to be able to drive with my family, photographers, and Levi and I it would come with a price. I read and researched for months about the possibility of driving to the plane and knew it would cost something. So I set aside funds for it and if the moment presented itself I promised myself I would just go for it. To see his face light up was priceless. It was insanely cold but it was so worth it. .
this trip was rather a more personal and emotional one as I lost my father 2 years ago. That’s another reason I wanted a small intimate wedding......Iceland gives Levi and I peace. After we visited there about 4 years ago now, we fell in love and told ourselves we would go back one day...And bam... after thinking about what represented our love, life, happiness and adventures we decided to not have a typical wedding in California and we picked between Iceland and New Zealand... with the blink of an eye Levi and I were making plans with a Pastor half way around the world. So there ya have it. We didn’t do the walk. The walk to the plane that day would have been insane! To those who made it to the plane, I have total respect for because it was raining, windy, freezing cold and the only shelter was inside that plane. Sam and another photographer Davey were kind enough to ride with us and took some amazing photos. My mom along with his mom and dad were also there to go sight see with us. Photo by @samciurdar

Dad- it seems like yesterday when we celebrated your 70th Birthday and really hard to believe you are 80! A lot has happened over the past 10 years. Watching you and your adoring relationship with Mom has been beautiful. You have been by her side since the day you married and this past year has been truly a year full of hope, perseverance, trust and support. The marriage, relationship and friendship that you and Mom endure is something that we all strive for.
You have taught us lessons that molded who we all are today. Your life lessons, such as living life to the fullest, striving to achieve personal endevours, that if you walk throughout life with 3 solid friends consider yourself fortunate and most importantly money can not buy love, trust and true relationships, there are many many more but they will go in your book!! You walked the walk and we followed in your footsteps. Thank you Dad. I am so happy that we were able to celebrate with you and Mom, this truly was the most memorable weekend we ever had as a family. Happy Birthday, I love you! @moldygoldy

A courier just knocked on my door and handed me an unexpected delivery from @harpercollinsca. Upon opening and glancing at title (➡️) I had a visceral reaction, and immediately felt queasy. But I suppose I won't judge a book by its cover. Reading the blurb on jacket ➡️➡️ hit me in a weird way too. This is the story about a mom turning 39 (me in 2 weeks), who loves wine (me also, back in the day). It's funny, because today and yesterday I had two friends (@modernrascals + @laurakaminer) both send me the photo from @simplelivingfolks ☝️ that shares pic of Kelly, a mom, who boldly states that she doesn't need alcohol to survive motherhood. (Brave AF.) This is a topic that I have LOTS of thoughts on, but don't often share for fear of seeming/being judgemental. I can say, however, that in my lifetime, the peer pressure to drink has NEVER been as in-your-face and obnoxious as it had been since I became a mom. It's fucked up. Wine or the LCBO is not the answer on how to deal with tantrums, bedtimes, challenging days. "If all else fails, there's wine! Lololol" NOPE. Also, that response is neither funny or creative. (Oops...there comes the judginess I was trying to avoid!) Sigh. I suppose I will read the book and see if I am moved to say something then. In this moment, I want to throw it against the wall. Who knows, maybe it will surprise me. I'm not anti wine (I'm married to a sommelier), but I am acutely aware of the dangers when alcohol is used to numb, to self medicate, to escape, to cope. #sobermom #sherecovers #alcoholism #addiction #motherhood

I was 18 years old and it was my last track season before heading to BYU. Things were NOT going like I wanted. I was getting frustrated because I felt like I was “doing everything right”, so why wasn’t I getting rewarded. Why was so and so running faster than me. Why wasn’t I setting personal bests after personal bests.
Have you ever felt like you’re doing EVERYTHING right, while others aren’t yet they’re getting “rewarded”?
That’s how I felt.
But it’s not about them. It’s about you and your eternal journey.
God has promised us that blessings will come. They WILL come.
And boy did they come.
You see my 18 year old self didn’t understand that, had I been thriving and running super fast I most definitely wouldn’t have gone to BYU.
I wouldn’t have met that tall, funny, blonde white boy.
I wouldn’t have married in the Salt lake temple.
And I probably wouldn’t have 3 little curly haired children calling me mom.
God never breaks his promises.
His plan is way better than ours.
Trust Him and his timing.
Things always work out like they’re suppose to🖤 #positivevibes #momof3 #momlife #transformationtuesday

I’ve noticed a lot of new faces around here (hi friends! 👋🏼), so I wanted to share a few fun facts about me and this page.
.
I’m Heather, a 33-year-old Native Floridian 🌴, former NBA dancer and personal trainer who moved to Brooklyn, NY two and a half years ago. I met my husband through dancing with the Orlando Magic in 2007, and spent 4 seasons there. 🏀✨
.
We got married in Orlando in 2011 and then moved up to Detroit in 2012 to work for the Detroit Pistons! He was an Entertainment Manager and I was a Pistons Dancer for 2 seasons. 💃🏻 Living in Michigan was a whole new life for me (I still miss the beach 👙 and prefer to look at ❄️ from afar), but we met some life-long friends and I retired my dancing shoes to become a full-time blogger and personal trainer. That’s when I rebranded my site to Life In Leggings, the healthy lifestyle blog you see today!
.
I absolutely LOVE blogging, and I truly wish that I had more time for it. 👩🏼‍💻 I used to publish new content twice a day, and now my goal is to check in at least once a week. The reason? I’m a Studio Manager of an @orangetheory Fitness Studio and helped open the location in Jan. 2017! 🍊🎊 It’s been a challenging but extremely rewarding experience, and I absolutely love working in the fitness industry and seeing people’s lives change every day. 🏋🏼‍♀️
.
After years of infertility struggles, my husband and I became parents to our miracle baby boy — Skyler in March. 👶🏼💙 I just started going back to work a few weeks ago, so I’m currently navigating (and juggling) new and working mom life with a three-month-old! It isn’t easy, but we are taking everything one day at a time. We have our good and bad days just like anyone else, but Sky’s smile and snuggles make every single challenge, sacrifice, and change in our former spontaneous and care-free NYC lifestyle one hundred percent worth it. 👪💕
.
I’ve always been a health and fitness nut, so that has been the primary focus of my blog and this page. 🥗💪🏼 You can also expect to see baby photos (... lots 😬), scenes in NYC, travel & daily musings sprinkled in, too! 🏙🍦👗

Trish, 29, photographed at home in Silver Lake, Los Angeles. The second photo is of her mom photographed with her children when she was roughly the same age.

It’s still considered unusual by family members back home to live with your partner outside of marriage. “I remember having discussions with my mom about living with my boyfriend. She went, ‘But you’re not married! The Lord will just look upon you and you’re gonna go to hell!’” Trish recalls this fondly, with laughter. Her family has accepted him now after he flew to the Philippines with her to spend some time with them and “prove he wasn’t going to kill me!” —— The project is about understanding two different generations by presenting portraits of these women today alongside their favorite portraits of their mothers when they were the same age. Having left the conservative society behind, some Filipinas face a dilemma of constantly “breaking” the rules they were raised to abide by and dealing with the ever present Catholic guilt.

I’m also photographing women who were born and raised here for a different, but also important perspective. —— This is a personal one and I’m so excited these amazing ladies allowed me to share. ❤️ #filipinaproject

Tomorrow is my last day, and while it is sooner then I had hoped for, my back and my body will not allow me to work anymore. So to that I wanted to write a personal message to all of you:
I seriously have the best clients! Many of them feel more like friends, as we have grown and shared our lives together over the past 8 or so years together! I’ve watched their lives and families grow, and they’ve been with me thru buying a house, getting married, being pregnant and soon to be a mom.
To say goodbye to them for a whole year is like someone telling me I can’t see my friends for a whole year, I can’t share my stories, and bask in theirs. I am truly blessed to have the career I have, the clients I call friends and my colleagues who make showing up to work every day a pleasure!

I appreciate your loyalty over the years, and can’t wait to return to you all after a year of learning what it’s like to become a mom.
With 💚💙LoVe Jen •
