🌊
There are so many reasons to skip single-use. Plastic water bottles change the water quality of our most important natural resource 💦. The plastic bottles that water usually comes packaged in, polyethylene terephthalate (PET) for retail bottles and even high-density polyethylene (HDPE) water cooler jugs has a shelf life. After a certain point this plastic can leach into our fresh liquid, and this has been linked to many serious health hazzards. Many people say, well, why don't we re-use our plastic bottles? To be more eco friendly?!? .......• Well, the chemical used to manufacture plastics, Biphenol A, or commonly known as BPA, leaches into you water and QUICKLY grows dangerous bacteria in your plastic bottles cracks. 🤦‍♀️These chemicals found in plastic bottles can affect every system in our bodies! They can affect ovulation, "Increase our risk of hormonally driven problems like PCOS, endometriosis and breast cancer, among other things.” -Dr. Marilyn Glenville 🐚

Want to get even more shivers from the plastic bottle? A new study just came out by scientists researching plastic water bottles used by athletes for a week found that the bacteria count reached over 900,000 colony-forming units per square centimeter, on average. •
Get this: That’s more bacteria than the average TOILET seat. •
Raise your hand if your grossed out! ☝🏽🙋🏽

If you have a friend who just can't quit the habit, all these facts are good to share. Let's help our communities, friends and family, and environment by making a splash and keeping our beautiful reusable bottles close at hand! Not only for our oceans sake, but for the sake of our own, individual, health! 💙

The world pollution statistics are simply staggering! The horrible state of our planet is made tangible when we see revolting pictures of birds covered in oil, poisoned fish, trapped turtles and recently the plastics in our oceans. Every year, more than 14 billion pounds (6 billion kilograms) of garbage is dumped into the world's ocean. Most of it, is plastic that is toxic to marine life. Known as the Great Pacific Garbage Patch, there even is a “continent” made from the plastic trash, floating in the Pacific Ocean. According to some estimates, the patch can be as large as twice the size of the US. In 2018, the eighth year of SELFRIDGES PROJECT OCEAN, we continue to support the #OneLess campaign to make our communities and cities plastic water bottle free and have introduced new initiatives such as recycling coffee cups to help make our iconic yellow carrier bags. In 2015 SELFRIDGES began to focus on plastic pollution in our ocean by removing all plastic carrier bags from our stores and all single-use plastic water bottles from our Foodhalls and restaurants. In 2016 we stopped selling beauty products containing plastic microbeads and we are continuing to spread the word by inviting you to make the #OneLess pledge. Remember with every drop of water you drink, every breath you take, you are connected to the sea.

These are my two daily essentials for staying on track! 💪 I use my @erincondren Life Planner as a health and fitness journal. 🍎 I use it to plan my meals and exercise ahead of time. I also use it to record what I ate that day, my weight, and measurements. I have a whole video about it, which I'll link in my bio. I find that when I don't take the time to plan out my meals, I usually reach for anything convenient. 😁 I also have a ridiculous obsession with @mybkr water bottles. They're glass water bottles that come in different colors and sizes. They save me money on plastic water bottles, they're better for me and the environment, and they're super cute! 🙈💧Check-in and let me know how you did today! 💗

For some 79 per cent of the plastic produced over the last 70 years has been thrown away, either into landfill sites or into the general environment. Just nine per cent is recycled with the rest incinerated.
With more than eight million tons going into the oceans every year, it is estimated there will be more plastic than fish by 2050 and 99 per cent of all the seabirds on the planet will have consumed some. It is thought the sea now contains some 51 trillion microplastic particles – 500 times more than stars in our galaxy. So far, it is known that marine litter harms more than 600 species amid what some regard as the beginning of the sixth mass extinction of life on Earth.
Here are 10 Ways to “Rise Above Plastic:

1.Choose to reuse when it comes to shopping bags and bottled water. Cloth bags and metal or glass reusable bottles are available locally at great prices.
2. Refuse single-serving packaging, excess packaging, straws and other "disposable" plastics. Carry reusable utensils in your purse, backpack or car to use at bbq's, potlucks or take-out restaurants.
3. Reduce everyday plastics such as sandwich bags and juice cartons by replacing them with a reusable lunch bag/box that includes a thermos.
4. Bring your to-go mug with you to the coffee shop, smoothie shop or restaurants that let you use them, which is a great way to reduce lids, plastic cups and/or plastic-lined cups.
5.Go digital! No need for plastic cds, dvds and jewel cases when you can buy your music and videos online.
6. Seek out alternatives to the plastic items that you rely on.
7. Recycle. If you must use plastic, try to choose #1 (PETE) or #2 (HDPE), which are the most commonly recycled plastics. Avoid plastic bags and polystyrene foam as both typically have very low recycling rates.
8. Volunteer at a beach cleanup. Surfrider Foundation Chapters often hold cleanups monthly or more frequently.
9. Support plastic bag bans, polystyrene foam bans and bottle recycling bills.
10. Spread the word. Talk to your family and friends about why it is important to reduce plastic in our lives and the nasty impacts of plastic pollution.

Well thankfully today was the latter. Coco and Bear absolutely loved the new #zslsuperheroes exhibition - the plastic maze was a brilliant way to illustrate the awful plastic problem 😣But it gave hope through ideas on how to deal with the single-use plastic hideousness - and I loved that they sold water in recyclable cans rather than bottles 👊🏼 Id love to see the whole ZSL go 100% plastic free but from the plates to the water-in-a-can to the endless recycle bins around the zoo, they’re at forefront of getting there. Such an amazing place - especially as we got to stroke the nose of a lama and watch penguins swim and baby gorillas play...glorious ☺️💓☺️ #animals #conservation #environment #plasticfree *also I have to make note of the giant arm coco and I seem to have grown #giantarm

There are so many wonderful places I love to shoot, sadly I feel I need to also share a truth with you all. At times when we were diving in Amed great patches of garbage would float in from the open ocean. Ive been to many places in the world to dive and Indonesia has some of the best dive sites. And yet there is this horrible influx of garbage which truely ruins it. What could be worse than one time plastics? The Plastic ending up in the Ocean and harming the marine life. This is an image I shot of my buddy Bas as he was swimming out to the Bouy we dive on. This type of garbage influx happened daily on the bouy and of course the photos are not pleasant, but I think they are so important to share. In Indo it's difficult to avoid single use plastics- you have to get water that is safe to drink when you can't get it in the taps. There are ways to refill your bottles, but this is really a band aid trying to cover a large open wound. The changes need to come from the top. The only way change can come and our oceans be saved is in the changing of our systematic use if plastic. When I was in Amed I participated in a Beach and ocean clean up, organised by my friend Anita Horan @anita.horan of @captured.emotion. The amount of plastic straws I picked up was shocking. Just think if plastic straws were replaced by paper ones or reusable straws what a difference just that would make?! While in Amed we ate at several places that use reusable straws, often large glass straws that can be cleaned and reused. This small act not only saved the businesses money but also the environment from a large quantity of plastic straws. If you are ever in Amed some great places to eat are Warung Enak, @apneistafreedivingbali and also @fusionfreediving. #litter #ocean #protection #life #underwaterphotography #underwater #recycle #marine #water #free #dive #diving #plastic #apnea #bali #travel #instamood #instatravel #instadaily #photography #photoftheday #sea #clean #up #fin #camo #fit #reflection #mirror #truth

Most of my life has revolved around surfing and the ocean and we should never take things like the beautiful world we live in for granted. Picture 1 is me doing what I love the most, and picture 2 is from the beach today in Bali! Even the most remote and beautiful places in the world are being affected by our pollution and negligence. No one is perfect, but we can all strive to be better. Here are some easy ways to be more proactive with our environment that I try to use everyday and you can too!
1. Say no to plastic bags. Buy re-usable ones and bring them with you to the store. If you forget your re-usable bag then ask for a paper bag instead of plastic.
2. Cut out singe-use plastic drinking bottles as much as possible. Strive to use reusable water bottles more and more. I love hydro flask.
3. Say no to straws! They are unnecessary and one of the leading causes of plastic pollution.
4. Every time you go into nature pick up at least 5 pieces of trash you come across and recycle them or dispose of them in the right way.
5. Basically, don’t use plastic!

What you don’t normally see in my feed is a lot of sponsored content... I’ve always stayed true to myself when it comes to what I share and what I actually use on the trail. My reasons for this have everything to do with my own ethics, which is why I have chosen to have a small number of partnerships, and those partnerships are with brands that align with those ethics.
Today on Earth Day, I want to talk about a brand and a product that is truly making an impact on our environment. Many of you have probably seen me talk about @LifeStraw before but there’s no better time to share with you and show you how this company and product is working together to:
-make a social impact by giving back through retail
-eradicating diseases
-providing safe water in times of disaster relief
-partnering w/ other organizations for humanitarian work
-produces products w responsible design
-and... this is a big one this year on Earth Day, focusing on the reduction of micro plastics
One of the products (that I’m also going to giveaway in this post) that is reducing these plastics is the Go Bottle. I take this bottle with me everywhere: to the gym, on the road, on hikes, airports, hotels and it’s with me wherever I go whether I am home or abroad. Not only am I reducing my own use of plastics, but I’m also saving $ by not having to purchase bottled water while traveling. The @LifeStraw Go Bottle provides 8,000 water bottles worth of clean and safe drinking water, no matter where you are in the world.
Here’s some astonishing #s on plastics:
-400 billion water bottles are used every year
-1 million water bottles are used per minute globally
-150 tons of plastics are currently floating in our oceans
...and at this rate by 2050 the ocean could contain more plastic by weight than fish
If that’s not a wake up call for how we consume water... I don’t know what is?
So today, I am glad to bring awareness by partnering w @LifeStraw today on what is Earth Day weekend.
To win this bottle AND one for a friend use the comments to share where you would use the LifeStraw Go, and tag a friend because when it comes to the Earth... sharing IS caring.
Happy Earth 🌏 Day Everybody!

What about our own #conscience to #preserve?
Why wait for authorities to give us direction- don’t we know that plastic is lethal for the earth and its creatures starting with YOU? , don’t we know that plastic takes 450 to 1000 years and more to decompose? We also know that plastic traces are being found in fish, water, vegetables and other foods and we consume plastic everyday? So should we not work equally hard to give up any form of plastic in our lives and also submit all bottles and boxes for recycling to the right agencies? Of course I did the everyday minimum that most of us are taught will help our environment—like recycling, throwing away litter, turning off the lights, etc. One day, I realized what I was doing wasn’t enough.
Climate Change is real, so ask yourself these questions:
~ Are you driving unnecessarily? ~ Do you turn off the water while doing dishes and brushing your teeth? ~ Have you planted something recently? ~ Are you avoiding landfillers like Styrofoam or paper plates? ~ Are you really buying all those water bottles? ~ Are you helping clean up your parks and/or beaches? ~ How much animal products do you consume?

Start small. Start to take notice of how you go through each day. How often do you use plastic? What foods do you consume regularly? By becoming more aware, you can take small steps in the right direction. And when we all take those steps together, the world becomes a much better place for all of us to live

On average 300 million tonnes of plastic is produced globally each year, with the UK only recycling a third of consumer plastic.
To help combat this huge issue I have compiled a list of easy, small changes that can be implemented into everyday life, with the hope that it will help people cut down on their plastic intake and also save money in the long term.
Drinking:
A reusable water bottle- they not only reduce the use of single use water bottles, but it also can save you money as refilling them is usually free.
A reusable travel mug- these basically have the same benefits as the water bottle however these can save you extra money as some companies, such as Costa Coffee, give customers 25p off of orders if a reusable cup is used.
Tea leaves- using tea leaves instead of tea bags make them more easily compostable and they also have the added benefit of being able to be used as mulch for household plants. They can also decrease waste because many teabags are wrapped in foil and then placed into a box.
In America, 500 million plastic straws are thrown away everyday and are currently not recyclable. The easiest thing to do is simply ask for your drink without a straw. However, if you enjoy using straws reusable straws can be purchased which are made out of metal or bamboo.
Toiletries:
Shampoo, conditioner and soap can all be purchased in bar form. This reduces waste as they reduce plastic bottle use and also are sold in recyclable paper bags.
Toothbrushes- Using a bamboo toothbrush is an easy swap that can be made instead of using a plastic one. The bamboo can be composted after they have been finished with.
Deodorant- salt deodorant can be used which, although is in plastic, lasts over a year so reduces waste caused by aerosol cans. They are also better for you and the environment as they do not contain any toxins.
Razors- disposable razors can be replaced by a safety razor. This cuts down waste as only the blades are replaced, and these can be recycled, instead of buying a whole new razor every time. This also saves money in the long term because razor blades are much cheaper to buy.

WILL THEY CARE? // “According to the United Nations, by the year 2050, 68% of the world’s populations will be living in cities. Now, anyone who lives in a city will agree with me that the city is not the best place to admire nature. It is a place of concrete trails and forests of towering bricks and glass. It is often wrought with the stench of everyday life, the hustle and bustle of human survival. What then are the chances that the coming generation would learn to appreciate the environment?

An insight to this future might be gleaned from Hollywood. From Blade Runner to Maze Runner, from Mad Max to Terminator, the screens are full of movies depicting a bland future devoid of the beauties of nature. The common themes are post-apocalyptic worlds ruled by robots, where the air is poisonous, plants do not grow and water has finally run dry.

Another factor would be the times in which they would be born into. The biggest challenge facing the environment is the throwaway and convenience culture of today’s world. Most people will remember, or at the very least, will have heard of, a world of milk bottles and milk men, a world before fast food and fast fashion. The next generation will be born into it so they will probably know nothing else. Fast fashion would be the norm, plastic the king and the throwaway culture would boom. Then of course is the influence of mobile phones and other digital media. According to the Telegraph the average young person spends up to 7 hours on his or her mobile phone per day! If you’ve hung out with kids or adolescents lately, you will agree with me that it is becoming more and more difficult to convince them to lift their faces from their mobile phones, to drop their video game pads, step outside and play in the sun. Now I don’t know about you, but this bothers me greatly. You see, it is difficult to believe in something you have not experienced and it seems that young people do not want to know what is beyond their noses...” to read @iblaqprinz piece, click on the link in our bio. I don't think I need to justify why a reusable bottle it better so I'll address common reasons why people continue to use them. "The water tastes better."
But do you know how the chemicals in the bottle may be affecting it's quality? OR have you scientifically researched the PH values or general quality of the brand you are purchasing? I don't drink enough bottled water to investigate this but I would want to know what's in my water before deciding on its taste. "I'm always in a rush and it's easier."
We all have the same 24 hours and I think stashing reusable bottles in places where you need them most won't really impede on you day. "I'm traveling and can't drink the water."
UH PREACH HELLO! THIS IS MY ENTIRE LIFE. I've purchased iodizing pills that you drop in water and they worked like a charm for my 3L camelbak. I did a 5 day trek drinking only local water with zero repercussions. I'm also going to purchase a sterilizing UV filtration pen and my lovely ecobuddy Emily Horton has this amazing bottle with a filtration system INSIDE. Globetrotting is not an excuse to leave plastic debris everywhere you go.

5. PLASTIC BAGS AND FOOD PACKAGING
Shop the perimeter of your grocery store and stash those healthy finds in a reusable tote. Your waistline and the environment will thank you.

We will be wearing special Adidas kits built out of technical yarns made using Parley Ocean Plastic for today's game.
Covering more than 70 percent of our planet, oceans are among the earth’s most valuable natural resources. They govern the weather, clean the air, help feed the world, and provide a living for millions. They also are home to most of the life on earth, from microscopic algae to the blue whale, the largest animal on the planet. Yet we’re bombarding them with pollution. By their very nature—with all streams flowing to rivers, all rivers leading to the sea—the oceans are the end point for so much of the pollution we produce on land. The majority of the garbage that enters the ocean each year is plastic—and here to stay. That’s because unlike other trash, the single-use grocery bags, water bottles, drinking straws, and yogurt containers, among eight million metric tons of the plastic items we toss (instead of recycle), won’t biodegrade. Instead, they can persist in the environment for a millennium, polluting our beaches, entangling marine life, and getting ingested by fish and seabirds.

Only 12 days after its initial refusal to implement a serious ban, Brisbane City Council announced that it is committed to banning plastic straws, bottles, and helium balloons after all. Earlier this month, the council’s field services chairman Peter Matic claimed that there were no plans to phase out single-use plastic straws and bottles at council-operated venues, in spite of pressure from the opposition after other Queensland councils had enforced a ban. Now, however, the council backtracked on the decision and will move forward with their efforts to reduce plastic waste!
In a recent agenda meeting, the council’s environment, parks, and sustainability Chairman Councilor, David McLachlan, stated that the council had already implemented several sustainable initiatives but would now end the use of plastic water bottles, non-recyclable coffee cups, plastic bags, straws, and balloons.

We began using eco bags in 2005 way before it was in fashion to avoid using plastic bags and help reduce the use of paper bags. We even gave it as a give-away during my daughter @mariella_laurel's debut in 2009 to help raise awareness in keeping our environment clean.
My family and I make a concious effort of using stainless steel water bottles and straws. I believe it all starts at home and educating our children and our staff is essential so that they can spread the word to their friends and families.

I pledge to continue keeping our environment clean and safe! @wwfphilippines

🌎🍹
Although it is only observed once a year, Earth Day is a great reminder to do our part every single day to help keep our blue planet healthy. Whether our actions are big or small, we need to help conserve our natural resources, create and build sustainable products to help protect our environment. The most important thing is to protect the planet for our generation and future generations.
🌎
What are you doing today to help protect our planet and environment? This year the main focus of Earth Day is end plastic pollution. Many ways you can help with that are:
1. Take reusable shopping bags to stores, especially grocery stores.
2. Use stainless steel water bottles that you can refill instead of using disposable plastic water bottles.
3. Swapping out plastic straws with paper or stainless. Bring your own paper or stainless straws to restaurants if you need to use one. Or ask for no straw
4. Recycle plastic. Get a bin just for plastic or ask your local recycling center for a bin. Find out which plastics are recyclable and make sure they don’t end up in the trash.
🌎🍹
Happy Earth Day 2018

GlobalGivers Acacia and Reed are in Bali celebrating Earth Day with @bottleforbotol, an organization that educates kids of all ages about environmental issues and how to reduce plastic. They distribute metal reusable water bottles to students, which are designed by students and showcase their beautiful illustrations.

Because there is no recycling in Bali, and the water quality is poor, most drinking water comes in plastic single-use bottles that get thrown away and end up in landfills. Education is crucial in reducing this waste, and the kids of the tiny island of Nusa Lembongan are learning about the implications of plastic use on their future.
Today's celebration consisted of an early morning beach cleanup, a thorough brainstorm about how to reduce plastic on the island, and creating colorful planters from upcycled water bottles. Bottle for Botol believes that small efforts like giving kids reusable bottles can make a huge difference.

This month we will be introducing free chilled water stations at all of our on-site food outlets to replace single-use plastic water bottles.
From mid-July, visitors are being invited to BYO or purchase re-usable water bottles from our cafes and WildZone gift shop, which will help us move closer to our goal of phasing out single-use plastics and creating a better environment for all wildlife and people.
Let’s take action together! With experts predicting ‘more plastic than fish in our oceans by 2050’ it’s important that we advocate for wildlife and make this vital change. As you may be aware, our zoo eliminated single-use plastic bags seven years ago and use only compostable food packaging/utensils on site.
This July also sees the start of a new joint-partnership with New Zealand-owned caterers Montana - who are passionate about sustainable practises and will be working with us to achieve our CarboNZero commitments.
As our Senior Vet Dr James Chatterton says “The best thing we can all do to prevent more plastic going into our environment – into our oceans, lakes, rivers, waterways, coastlines and also on land - is to replace, reduce, re-use and really importantly, safely recycle”.
Click the link in our bio to read more about this exciting change!

There are 500 times more pieces of microplastic in the sea than there are stars in our galaxy and by 2050 it is estimated there will be more plastic than fish.

While we all love sipping on a juice or smoothie or might pop a straw into a water bottle like it's no big deal, plastic straws are actually doing a lot of harm to the environment. Just as bad as plastic bags, bottles and takeaway coffee cups, straws end up in landfill and our waterways, polluting the environment with non-biodegradable waste that simply isn't necessary.

Purchase a double or 4 pack of our bamboo re-usable straws that are handmade in a small village in Bali by 16 year old Putu, who has now employed a large number of his community to help him in the process.
🍃 From tomorrow until the end of July any new order over $50 will receive 1 free bamboo straw 🌱

Just to give you an idea Americans use 500 million drinking straws every day and used 50 billion plastic water bottles last year. If we can all take a small parts in trying to avoid using everyday plastic we can start to improve our environment’s waste. I start by using a reusable water bottle on hikes and take it to be filled up wherever I go instead of asking for plastic cups and also say no to straws when I am out to eat. Recommendations vary depending on weight, age, and activity level but an easy one to remember is 8x8, or 8 glasses of 8 ounces of water each day. You can also divide your weight in pounds by 2 and drink that number in ounces. For example, a 130-pound female would need 65 ounces (135/2) of water per day. Many experts recommend drinking to thirst—if you are thirsty, drink!
~
2. Invest in a reusable water bottle. Skip throwaway plastic water bottles that harm the environment—20% end up in landfills—and buy a BPA-free refillable water bottle to help you track your water intake each day. If you’re mindful of keeping the bottle nearby, you’ll be much more likely to sip throughout the day.
~
3. Infuse with flavor. Whether you prefer limes, lemons, oranges, berries, or cucumbers, infusing your water with fresh fruit can make for a refreshing and spa-like beverage, without any added artificial sweeteners or preservatives.
~
4. Drink before you eat. We all can relate to that late-afternoon “must have a snack” hungry feeling. Before reaching for the nearest source of calories, drink some water! Sometimes our brains confuse thirst with hunger, so next time the feeling strikes, hydrate before eating and your hunger “pains” just might disappear. 👇

New on the blog: Reducing Plastic in the Entertainment Industry ... For years, the entertainment industry has built a model of disposable infrastructure: sets are thrown out, plastic water bottles are used for moments between takes only to be tossed (often not even recycled), and eating arrangements are often "disposable." Money is tight, decisions are made quickly, and each set is essentially a temporary office: an environment literally cut-out for single-use plastic. So how does one reduce plastic in these fast-paced, budget driven environments? I AM SEEING A LOT OF DISPOSABLE PLASTICS ON MY NEWSFEED SO I AM GOING TO LIST SOME ALTERNATIVE OPTIONS. (THE CAPS IS TO GAIN YOUR ATTENTION NOT TO BE RUDE.) 1. COFFEE CUPS.

Why!? I took my thermos from the to US TO PERU so I could avoid disposable cups for any beverage. I use it for tea, coffee, and BCAA's. I joined a gym here and if I feel so inclined to purchase a post workout treat to go I am also going to ask that it be poured into my reusable mug. Reusable mugs keep your coffee hot, the environment happy, and maximize your morning potential!

2. PLASTIC STRAWS

Gentleman, how many of you toss aside that black straw every time your cocktail is served? Try to omit the use of it altogether and also order "No straw". Ladies, can't live without a straw for your daily green smoothie? I hate to tell you but repeated movements (scowling, smiling, etc) affect how your skin ages and straws are no exception. It's the same movement as smoking a cigarette and we all know those age lines are something we can all live without.

https://www.google.com.pe/amp/www.marieclaire.com/beauty/news/amp15724/do-straws-cause-wrinkles/

And if you still want a straw occasionally, use a reusable one. And before you complain about washing such a thing remember: it's only just to pay time when you commit a crime.

3. CLEAR PLASTICS TO SHOWCASE BEAUTIFUL BEVERAGES

I love delicious fruit smoothies and sweet coffee drinks as much as anyone else but when I see these insta worthy creations presented in plastic containers I scream internally. I think iced drinks look way more trendy in mason jars and plenty come with a handle for your on-the-go needs. They're much more eco friendly and your beverage will still be the buzz of conversation. Businesses can save costs on purchasing plastic so I assume it's a win win.

Additionally, here's a little link about glass:
http://myownbottle.com/why-glass/

I won't get into the scientific studies about the harmful chemicals in plastic but there's a reason that drinking water bottles left baking in the summer heat is discouraged. This ties nicely into my next point.

I’m shocked at how much plastic and packaging everything comes in and how full my recycling bin outside is each week. I’ve been buying environmentally friendly cleaning products, as well as natural hair and skin care alternatives for me and family. I refill them in my local health shop and reuse the plastic containers, rather than buy more. Here’s my attempt to switch to glass containers and also to use something even more natural to clean my home with.

Switching to doTerra products to clean my home with has been super easy - not only they are totally toxin free, they leave everything super clean and smelling delicious.

dōTERRA On Guard Cleaner Concentrate is a perfect natural cleaner. It's fortified with Wild Orange, Clove, Cinnamon, Eucalyptus, and Rosemary Certified Pure Therapeutic Grade essential oils, which provide fully natural protection against certain environmental factors while elevating the overall cleaning capability.

This powerful essential oil blend is combined with plant-based derivatives that provide a non-toxic and biodegradable way to clean, and it's safe for the whole family as well as the environment. Making it perfect cleaner to use on surfaces in the kitchen, bathroom, or any room, leaving behind a clean and invigorating scent. Just mix with water and you are ready to go - one bottle of On Guard Cleaner Concentrate makes around 11-12 bottles of all purpose cleaner.

If you’re ready to make the switch to a more natural home send me a message with your email and I will get back in touch with more details.

For the past few months I’ve been traveling to stunning islands getting closer to the Ocean and marine life. Ive had the pleasure of seeing dynamic coral reefs with cities of colorful, vibrant fish cohabiting in perfect harmony with one another. The beauty of these beings and their environment has shaken me. More than 70% of the planet is covered with water and we’ve been taking little care of the damage we’re causing. The Earth is a living, breathing organism hosting everything that we do, and we’re one with the planet. 🌍🌿🌞The most common waste found in the ocean is plastic. Not just bottles and bags, but micro-plastic that fish, birds, and other marine life are mistaking as food. Using less plastic (and maybe throw in a plant-based diet 😘) are a few things we can do to help rebalance our highly intelligent, delicate ecosystem. 💧💙🙏🏼

Around 300 million tons of plastic are produced each year to make bags, bottles, packages, and other commodities for people all over the world. Unfortunately, only about 10% of this plastic is properly recycled and reused. The rest ends up as waste in landfills or as litter in our natural environment, where it leaches dangerous chemicals into the nearby soil and water, endangering humans and wildlife alike. 😢😿🐬🐟🐰🦊🐝🦌

New research carried out by Orb Media (@orbmedia) found that micro plastics are now in our bottled drinking water. Out of 250 bottles sourced from 11 brands in nine countries, studies revealed contamination levels to be “nearly universal” at 90% with an average of over 10 particles per bottle. But what effect does plastic have on a human body? Scientists shrug in unison.
Another study (Cornell) done this year states that the same plastic particles are killing off the coral reefs. This seems obvious with the amount of trash pouring in each hour, but the consequences become streamlined with the pollutants and microorganisms the particles are carrying. The researchers found that the plastics cling and drag leaving abrasions on the coral, openings for harmful bacteria. The studies have not found the exact correlation between plastic and the coral’s disease yet one scientist compared it to cutting yourself with a dirty knife. No one knows what a load of plastic will do to human bodies over time either. But the coral is a great indicator. Because we are all connected, people, coral, oceans, life on earth, seems like a call for alarm. IMAGINE a major shift in focus to the environment and a stop in the circulation of single use and eventually all plastic. 🗺

A turtle experiences the effects of plastic pollution first-hand. Pollution is choking our oceans and we need to take action now.
A staggering 8 million tonnes of plastic end up in the world’s oceans every year. If current trends continue, our oceans could contain more plastic than fish by 2050.

The #UnitedNations Environment Programme advocates governments for plastic reduction policies, targets industries to minimize plastic packaging and redesign products, and urges people to change their habits.

Join the global movement to #BeatPlasticPollution and take action for #CleanSeas: refuse plastic cutlery and straws, use refillable water bottles and bring your own shopping bags.

Humans have produced 18.2 trillion pounds of plastics since large-scale production began in the early 1950s and we've put most of it in the trash.
That weight is equivalent to: - 1 billion elephants - 25,000 Empire State Buildings
- 822,000 Eiffel Towers
- 80 million of blue whales
Nearly 80% of that plastic now resides in landfills or the natural environment and it can only get worse as the plastic waste could be with us for hundreds or even thousands of years.

Shall we start doing something with two simple actions?

1. Stop with straws, they’re useless and if you lift a bit your elbow you can drink easily
2. Stop with plastic water bottles: in every supermarket you can find pitchers that, with a filter that costs a few bucks, can purify more than 50 gallons of water.

We mostly think of it as oil spills in oceans or man-made fires in forests that leave us hopeless of how we can act and protect our precious environment.
But #plasticwaste is also a huge threat 🤢Plastic garbage ending up in landfills and oceans release #toxins into the environment and take hundreds of years to degrade. Although #recycling can help reduce the amount of garbage, only a few types of plastics can be recycled.
So what can we do? The truth of the matter is that we can do A LOT by simply changing our lifestyle ☺️🌲.
Small acts make a BIG difference 🙌🏼.
1. Carry a reusable shopping bag with you.
2. Use refillable glass or aluminium-free water bottles —stop buying plastic water bottles!!!
3. Say NO to plastic straws.
4. Don’t use plastic cutlery.
5. Don’t buy convenient food wrapped in plastic — you are capable of chopping your own fruits and veggies.
6. Stop using air fresheners — light a candle or incense instead.
7. How about shifting to a #plantbaseddiet as animal agriculture is one of the leading causes of greenhouse emissions requiring massive amounts of land, food, energy, and water? Needless to mention the immense animal suffering 😥. As a bonus you get your arteries clean and your heart pumping like a teen 😉💚.
8.And for all the plastic waste that were unconsciously thrown out into your nearby #forest wear your snickers and a pair of gloves, go for a hike and collect them for recycling. 😅🌲🌳💚 #bethechange.

CALL TO ACTION - TAG EVERYONE YOU KNOW BELOW Everyone needs to see this. The horrible Freediving in trash video is going globally viral right now and I am stoked about it. I've been working with a news agency to get this out there and it's hitting hard. I think about the days that Mums can't take their children down to the trash filled beach to swim anymore or when marine life will only be seen in massive sea tanks. Wake up world, here's the reality of our future. Trista @underwater_explorer I were training in the open ocean when we were hit with a tonne of garbage. It was real and it was fucking scary. Every single day we use refillable water bottles, I take my own bags to the shops and get pissed off if anyone even asks me if I want a plastic bag or if they put a straw in my drink. Your reaction to these little 'BIG' things has the power to better the environment because if you don't chose to say no to plastic, for example, you can enjoy swimming in the shit as much as we did. And believe me, you will. @take3forthesea @theclimatecouncil #repost #iamjuliawheeler #saynotoplastic #nosingleuseplastic

"Super excited to bring you a collaboration piece with @byebyestraws - a part of the art for the #ArtistsAgainstPlastics movement.

Plastic pollution is a consistent problem in the world’s oceans. Hundreds of thousands of marine creatures every year die from plastic entanglement and ingestion. A plastic bag can kill numerous animals because they take so long to disintegrate- its victims include whales, dolphins, mola mola, sea turtles and more. Other deadly items include straws, plastic bottles and cutlery and fishing gear. ・
Earlier this year, a pilot whale that died from nearly 20 pounds of plastic in its stomach made headlines- a heartbreaking ambassador for many animals affected by plastic pollution out at sea. ・
Help make a difference - ditch plastics!

♻Choose reusable water bottles, utensils, shopping bags and straws as opposed to plastic ones

🍱Pack your own lunch in a reusable container

🥤🚫Bring your own cup to coffee shops

🛁Swap liquid soaps for soap bars

🎍Use bamboo brushes for your teeth and hair

👚Avoid synthetic clothes (polyester, nylon, etc.) which shed plastic microfibers

🎈🚫Balloons blow! Choose eco-friendly decorations

🚮Pick up some trash! Always leave the beach (or any outdoor environment) cleaner than when you came 🌊🐬🐋🦈🐠🐙💙

Through its Partnership with  #Monviso and  #AlJalila Foundation, Take Water, Give Life has donated More Than AED 180,000 (almost $US 50,000) to support the lives of children and adults in the #UAE by donating the equivalent of 180,000 litres of #water.

The donations help to fund Al Jalila Foundation’s lifesaving humanitarian work through the medical education and research by investing in the UAE’s medical treatment capabilities. The humanitarian initiative also involves a sustainability programme as Monviso collects and recycles the empty plastic bottles from various locations, then sell the recycled plastic and donate its net returns to Al Jalila Foundation.

Take Water, Give Life works as a sales programme designed to donate 1 AED to Al Jalila Foundation for every litre of Monviso mineral water sold by programme participants. These include participating retailers, hospitality venues, sports clubs and online orders placed directly on the Monviso website. The initiative is also supported on Monviso’s mobile app, available on iOS and Android – providing a more convenient and accessible way for people to donate and make a positive change towards the medical developments in the UAE. The app also gives customers the option to recycle their water bottles with ease – contributing to saving the environment.

Our friends at @5Gyres are always working towards solutions to #BeatPlasticPollution. They’ve shared some great tips on going #plasticfree

1. Bring your own shopping bag. On average, a plastic bag is used for 12 minutes, yet they persist in our environment for decades. Plastic bags are difficult to recycle and clog up machines, they're lightweight so they're easily transported by the wind and water, and they look like jelly fish in the ocean so they're often mistaken for food by turtles.

2. Buy in bulk. Packaging now accounts for 25% of all plastic manufacturing. Buying bigger helps reduce the amount of plastic you consume.

3. Wear natural fabrics. All materials shed fibers, which escape filtration through wastewater and can end up in the ocean. Unlike wool and cotton, plastic microfibers from synthetic materials like nylon and spandex don't biodegrade. In cases where synthetics fabrics are unavoidable—think bathing suits—try to wash less frequently and by hand.

4. Carry a reusable water bottle. Seven out of every ten plastic bottles are trashed. Not only does a refillable bottle make good environmental sense, it’s good for your bank balance. Bottled water costs 2,000 times more than (filtered) tap water.
5. Refuse disposable straws. Americans use 500 million straws every day, which aren’t recyclable, end up in oceans, and kill marine animals. Plus they cause wrinkles.

6. Go topless. Americans use more than 25 billion expanded polystyrene foam—better known as "Styrofoam"—cups each year, and many lids are made from the same plastic. If you forget your reusable cup, order your coffee without a lid. Go topless for our oceans!

British Parliament has announced plans to ban plastic water bottles and introduce a so-called “latte levy,” a small charge on takeaway coffee cups within Parliament buildings, starting this summer! The radical measures aim to “virtually eliminate plastics” from the estate and create the “world’s first plastic-free Parliament” that will effectively eliminate 75,000 single-use coffee cups and 125,000 plastic bottles a year.
According to the plans, in just a couple of months, Parliament will stop the purchase of all non-recyclable coffee cups and will replace them with a compostable, environmentally-friendly alternative. For a trial period, a 25 pence charge will be added to hot drinks served in the new cups. Authorities hope that the charge will lessen the disposable cups’ popularity in the long run. They will also add more water dispensers and fountains to help stop the sale of bottled water.

#REFUSE
SINGLE-USE
PLASTIC
As the world’s population continues to grow, so does the amount of garbage that people produce. On-the-go lifestyles require easily disposable products, such as soda cans or bottles of water, but the accumulation of these products has led to increasing amounts of plastic pollution around the world. As plastic is composed of major toxic pollutants, it has the potential to cause great harm to the environment in the form of air, water and land pollution.
Put simply, plastic pollution is when plastic has gathered in an area and has begun to negatively impact the natural environment and create problems for plants, wildlife and even human population. Often this includes killing plant life and posing dangers to local animals. Plastic is an incredibly useful material, but it is also made from toxic compounds known to cause illness, and because it is meant for durability, it is not biodegradable. #refusesingleuse #plasticpolutes #reduce #reuse #recycle #bringyourown #saynotoplastic #protectwhatyoulove💙

[ VF plus bas • #Collab ] Let’s talk plastic.
Although many establishments are trying to stop the use of single-use plastic, our world is surrounded by it. I tried to minimize my use of plastic every single day, but here I am, getting served at an event orange juice in plastic cups, followed by a tray of water bottles to all guests. I could refuse to take the bottle because I have my @hydroflask filled of cold water, but then, I sometimes feel like, what is the use?

Companies, especially bottled-water companies and their advertising agencies are the worse coming up with hypocrite campaigns pretending they care about the environment with recycling initiatives and so on. While agencies and clients all drink in plastic at the awards where they probably just won their sustainable campaign of the year. Wake up guys, how about stop producing plastic?
I could go on and on.

So what else can I do? Support initiatives like Adidas that prevents around 11 plastic bottles from getting in our beautiful oceans per pair. It is made out of upcycled plastic waste, making sure they never reach the nature. @AdidasRunning x @Parley.tv #UltraBoost #RunForTheOceans 🌿

Parlons plastique!

• • •
Plastic-free July starts next week- so it’s time to get yourself organised!
~
Here are the basics I use every day to minimise my plastic consumption:
• Reusable grocery bags- check the tags and materials and avoid ones lined with plastic. Go for hemp or cotton, or make your own using old t-shirts!
• Reusable produce bags- so important for things like leafy greens, fruits and veges. I use @onyalife bags which are made from 100% recycled plastic bottles.
• Drink bottle- reusing plastic ones is dangerous for your health, as well as the environment. Over time the plastic leeches toxic chemicals into the water, which end up in your body. I recommend a stainless steel bottle which is easy to wash and sturdy.
• Straws- plastic straws are used for 12 minutes on average, then thrown away, and can last for hundreds of years. That’s a lot of waste for a couple of sips. Invest in reusable straws like my ones from @ever.eco, and remember to ask for no straw when buying drinks!
• Coffee cup- so many cafes give discounts for byo cups, and the amount of landfill you’ll avoid contributing to is epic! Mine is from @tarongazoo. I recommend investing in one made of glass, bamboo or other natural and biodegradable/recyclable materials. Try to avoid ones with plastic lids.
• Cutlery- for those unplanned takeaway meals. Mine are 100% bamboo and will biodegrade in my compost.
• Bamboo toothbrush- they say you should change toothbrushes every 3-6 months. Imagine the number of plastic toothbrushes we go through given that advice! Get a bamboo one with biodegradable bristles (not plastic bristles) and keep your gums, teeth and Nature happy!

I’m not here, but I am sat in a coffee shop, and taking in my surroundings. I just observed someone ask for a latte in a takeout cup even though they are sat in drinking..... 😣 ?? This happens all the time.... I have been conscious of my consumption for quite sometime now, and made a decision that this year I wouldn’t buy any plastic water bottles (unless I am somewhere exotic and need to), or use a takeout coffee cup. I have re-useables and I make an effort daily to make sure I have them with me. Yeh it means taking a rucksack everywhere but handbags luckily aren’t my style ☺️ It really hasn’t been difficult. If for whatever reason I haven’t had my water bottle, I’ve simply asked for a glass in a cafe, and when not having my keep cup - just not had a coffee!
Please please please, buy a re-usable water bottle. Imagine, buying even just one plastic bottle a week, that’s 48 a year, times that by the population of 7million (world population) we are talking 336000000 plastic bottles being used a year. This figure will be so much higher, when you think about things like coke and sprite and those drinks too......Plastic bottles can take 450 years to decompose. 😟😟😟 Our beautiful planet will not be able to tolerate this forever!!!!!!!! Challenge yourself and save your money, invest in re-usable. We need to collectively stop single use plastics where we can. I hope this is seen as positive encouragement, I know so many of us are doing what we can. 🙏🏻💚✌️🌎

Live Healthy: Before being filtered through thousands of feet of porous volcanic rock, Waiakea originates from snowmelt and rain on the pristine summit of the active Mauna Loa volcano on the Big Island of Hawaii, one of the purest environments on Earth. The volcanic filtration process makes Waiakea a naturally alkaline water with a pH of 7.6-8.8, an unusual find in the bottled water world. Our water has a high electrolyte content and minerals including calcium, magnesium, silica, and potassium.
Live Sustainably: Protecting and preserving the environment is a pillar of Hawaiian culture that Waiakea takes seriously. Waiakea proudly uses 100% rPET bottles made from post-recycled consumer plastic. These bottles reduce carbon emissions by 90% compared to the process needed to make virgin plastic bottles. This is in addition 85% less energy and 90% less water to manufacture. Aside from our bottle, Waiakea uses backhauling, low emission shipping, and geothermal energy for its sourcing operations in order to offset our carbon footprint. Waiakea's commitment to sustainability made us CarbonNeutral certified company.
Live Ethically: Protecting the environment comes hand in hand with protecting the people that live within it. Thus, it was only natural for Waiakea to get involved in the fight against the water crisis that plagues our globe. For every liter of Waiakea purchased, we donate 1 weeks supply of clean water to communities in Subsaharan Africa through our partnership with PumpAid. 📸 @mariafernandaphoto

Feeling grateful that despite all this pollution and harm we are doing to the environment, I get to witness this slice of heaven and live among nature for a short time.
.
So glad we also found the resort that has compostable straws, cleans their own water so we use less plastic bottles and cares so much about the environment and ecosystem. I would highly recommend Constance Moofooshi if you’re thinking of coming here for a quick getaway!

Day3:
Sharing info on plastics everyday this month. Today, we’re sharing some #BerkeyLove 💖
We use the Berkey Water Filtration System for three reasons:
-it’s an investment in our health
-it’s an investment the environment
-it tastes soooooo GOOD!
Lose the plastic water bottles! Reuse a sustainable bottle for water. The Berkey is made from sustainable materials (That Brita Water Filter is made from PLASTIC! 😫) The US sells an average of 50 BILLION plastic water bottles a year! (YES, Billions!) That doesn’t include all the other beverages sold in plastic bottles! Sorry for all the EXCLAMATION POINTS !!!! The situation is DIRE! 80% of all plastic water bottles end up as litter/landfill/ocean contamination. Make a commitment to your health & the environment💚 If you follow @berkey_filters now, you’ll have a chance to win one of these in their current giveaway! #GoodLuck! You’ll love it!💚

Three days in a row having soft chocolate croissant for breakfast here 😍 Some day I’m gonna give my new fav café in Gothenburg it’s own insta post !❤️⠀
⠀⠀⠀
Swipe to last for next reason I love wow - they don’t sell any water bottles but instead let you BYOB (bring your own bottle)! 💦 You just take your own empty bottles from home and refill them for free at water refill stations around the festival area! How amazing is it that they forgo the easiest way to make money by thinking of the environment first 💚 People are amazing 💚 ⠀⠀⠀
⠀⠀
Reasons I love WOW:⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
✔️ Flower hair jewelry 🌸⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
✔️ The sharing of stories not only through music, but thru film 📽 & people ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
✔️ They focus on food rather than alcohol🌯 (ofc they still serve 🍻)⠀⠀⠀⠀
✔️ ... and it’s 100% plant-based! 🥗⠀⠀⠀⠀
✔️ Artists that dare to use their stage time for more than their music⠀⠀⠀
✔️ Free water refill stations and BYOB (bring you own bottle😉) instead of having plastic bottles for sale⠀

The Message Is The Bottle

1.) Only 1 in 5 plastic bottles are recycled
2.) Americans consume over 8.6 billion gallons of bottled water
3.) Most tap water is more heavily tested and regulated than bottled water
4.) Plastic water bottles can take between 400 and 1,000 years to decompose
5.) It requires 3 times the amount of water to produce a plastic bottle than it does to fill it
6.) Bottled water costs over 1,000+ times more than tap water
7.) Last year, the average American used 167 water bottles, but only recycled 38
8.) In many taste tests, tap water was preferred over bottled water
9.) The NRDC conducted a comprehensive four-year scientific study of 1,000 brands of bottled water. The results showed that one third of the bottled waters violated their own industry standards for water quality
10.) It takes 17 million barrels of oil to produce plastic bottles yearly. This could fuel 1 million cars for a year.

As the amazing time spent in the island of Bali comes to a conclusion for @hanaleireponty and myself, I can’t help but feel inspired about a theme that has been getting a lot of airtime across the globe lately. PLASTIC. Seeing the natural beauty of Bali and uluwatu being challenged by something that so heavily effects our oceans and natural environment around the world. Bali is no exception to the problem that exists worldwide, and I feel that this trip was an incredible reminder for myself of why the little actions on our daily programs continue to contribute to the solution of less single use plastic globally. For myself, I am learning about what I can do better, with all of our travels around the globe it’s often times difficult to feel like I’m making good decisions to benefit our environment, having to make sure I’m hydrated in remote locations (using plastic bottles), needing sanitary food (wrapped in plastics) or simply just being lazy and not doing my part. I’m learning like lots of us what little actions I can do to ‘do my part’ and one of the biggest things for me on the road and at home has been to reduce the amount of plastic bottles I’m using. Between all my surfs and training and frothing all over, I consume LOTS of water every day. I’ve come to find that for me using reusable water containers like my @hydroflask bottles has been one of the biggest improvements in my daily routine. Where I used to return rental cars filled to the brim with used forty ounce water bottles every trip, I have been finding my footprint is much smaller every time I travel with my hydroflask bottles. Lucky to be an ambassador for such a great product, for sure, but bigger than that is the opportunity to have a hand in our future generations clean oceans and healthy lifestyles by making decisions every day that will affect them. Being that it was international #oceanday yesterday, I figured this post was appropriate, and I would love to hear what routines and ways of reducing plastic everyone out there is finding effective and helpful to the problem at hand.. feel free to comment below! Thanks for reading, let’s keep celebrating Mother Nature, she is worth it!

The Guardian wrote “A million plastic bottles are bought around the world every minute and the number will jump another 20% by 2021”. As it takes almost a thousand years for a plastic bottle to decompose and about 80% of all plastic bottles are not recycled, our environment sees the effects of the pollution. We can break this trend by refilling reusable water bottles. It isn’t hard. So why does this continue to be an issue? Convenience. People and companies feel convenience is more important than our home. Say no to the easy route. Big the bigger person and refill, convenience is no excuse. You can even get large coolers to provide water refills for multiple people. It isn’t rocket science, any one can do it. The choice is yours. #MissEarth #MissEarthCanada #BreakFreeFromPlastic 🌎

Let’s take a look at some key points of a genuinely sustainable food establishment:
1. Garbage and waste: garbage sorting & recycling, recycling of oils, water treatment of cleaning materials, organic waste compost, full use of products (whole vegetables, animals nose to tail, parts usually not used). In some cases, taking the opportunity to use waste for other purposes: eggshell flour, biogas, bio fertilizer, flowerpot made from wine bottles or plastic bottles .

2. Water and energy: rainwater collection - in the cities, construction of wells or cisterns - in the countryside, use of solar energy, energy efficient light bulbs, replacement of electrical appliances by mechanical devices, minimization of the use of plastics, papers or fabrics that demand daily washing, substitution of conventional cleaning products for natural products or organic and biodegradable alternatives, administration of cooking alternating solar energy, gas, firewood and coal.

3. The menu: alternating and seasonal menus. Organic ingredients from small farmers and local producers who can sell directly to the establishment, without intermediaries. Decrease of dishes from animal origin coming from the meat, milk and dairy industries, which today are the main cause of degradation of the environment, especially the cattle industry for livestock. Use of free-range animals fed naturally, without drugs, hormones or antibiotics. Use of techniques to take advantage of the whole animal or vegetable, such as fermentation, curing, preserves - which automatically bring back ancient and traditional techniques of preparation. Cultural salvage of ingredients and recipes is essential to restore pride to the small agricultural farmer and to the food artisans, especially in a country like Brazil, which forgets its history through the constant colonization of more "developed" countries. Here’s a few small things we can all do to take of our Environment and Mother Earth with great love. 1. Always carry a glass container when you travel for water, for your to go items at restaurants, to say no to plastic bottles. The ocean is getting so contaminated that every bottle, every decision we make on the day to day counts. 2. Use recyclable or reusable bags for your shopping, groceries and all of your travels. Again, so no to plastic. 3. Take a 2 minute shower to reduce your water consumption. Did you know a five-minute shower uses 35 litres of water? Taking a 2 minute shower will reduce your water consumption by 10’gallons of water!! Here’s how you can do it. 1. Water on (40 seconds): Get warmed up and wet all over.
2. Water off: Lather up the shampoo and body wash; shave if needed.
3. Water on (40 seconds): Rinse.
4. Water off: Add hair conditioner.
5. Water on (40 seconds): Take a final rinse and you’re good to go! Little things, lots of love. Share a heart below if you agree!! And do share any other small ideas and ways that we can learn to take on to walk our earth with great care. 👇🏽👇🏽👇🏽 #itstimetobloom #yegyoga #yycyoga #yogainspiration #pachamama

Plastic is a non bio-degradable substance. It is hard to dispose of and contributes to major pollution on earth 🌍. Plastic plates, bags, spoons, glasses and other material are readily available in the market. These are economical and easy to use. People prefer using these use-and-throwaway utensils during gatherings and parties as it helps to avoid the hassle of clearing and cleaning the utensils later. All they need to do is to gather these and throw them away. However, little do they realize that this waste is not disposed off so easily. It continues to remain in the environment and harm our planet adversely. We must realize the harmful effects of plastic pollution and contribute our bit towards bringing it down. It is time we take this problem seriously and work towards eradicating it.

Here are two simple ways to lower plastic pollution that we can practice in our daily life:

No 1: Give up bottled water.

Not only does it come in a plastic bottle, but tremendous resources are used to extract, bottle, and ship it. And many brands of bottled water are simply filtered tap water. Get a reusable stainless steel or glass bottle, fill it up with tap water before leaving the house, and refill it wherever you happen to be.

No 2: Carry a stainless steel or glass travel mug at all times for coffee and other drinks while out in the world.

Besides the plastic lid and plastic straw, paper cups are lined with a plastic coating. Swap the takeaway coffee cup for your own reusable coffee cup – some outlets may even offer you a discount!

“My passion for living in #harmony with the natural #environment is something that first drew me to #Taos. I was fascinated with Taos’ #culture of ‘experimental sustainability’ where ‘off-the-grid’ #communities live in close relationship with the #elements. It began with the 4,000 year old #TaosPueblo, where thick #adobe walls harnesses #thermalmass to maintain a consistent room temperature, to #earthships that capture #sunlight with southern exposure and respect the high desert water table with #rainwater catchment. As we hit the beach today, here's a few easy things you can do to help keep our oceans clean.

There are lots of things we can do to protect our beaches. Here's a few tips.

1. Take a spare trash bag with you and clean up any liter you see. It's a great thing to do with your family and friends and it helps the environment. Where gloves to be safe.

2. Don't bring plastic bottles or baggies with you. Many times it ends up in the ocean and kills sea life. Instead pour your chips into a reusable container or put water in stainless steal bottles.

3. Buy ocean friendly sunscreens. The chemicals in sunscreen can kill off algae that coral reefs depend on.

Have a wonderful holiday!! #sanclemente #SoCal #orangecounty #beachvibes #beachview #ocean #saveourplanet #sea #environmentalist #inspire #giveback #makeadifference #volunteer #traveladdict #travel #travellife #travelgirl #jetsetter #globetrotter #wanderlust #nomadlife #nomad #gypsy #traveldeeper #responsibletravel #travel #nofilter #naturegram #travelgoals #igdaily

In light of Earth Day 🌏 I wanted to share a photo of a recent trip I took to the Philippines that brings me joy and also deep sadness. It brings joy because I got to experience an island almost completely inhabited, filled with natural beauty like this BIG ASS seashell, beautiful sea stars just along the shore line 🌟, gorgeous corals, and pristine beaches. 🌴 However as I reflect on this day and the journey it took to get to this small island I remember what I saw — what I saw I was so ashamed and in complete SHOCK because I had never seen waters so polluted. About 20 minutes into our 2 hour boat ride I probably saw at least 5,000 + plastic bottles, plastic bags, cages, styrofoam, and all other sorts of trash floating in the water. I was speechless! I’m not sure if the tourist who visit the nearby islands created this or simply a lack of garbage disposal from the main island creates this, but WE are ALL responsible!! I think Earth Day is a friendly reminder to do better! .
Today and forever try to be more conscious about even the smallest things that could have a big impact on the environment. 🙌🏼💕 #loveearth

My friend @nanzchongkomo, best known for her former One.99 chain of stores, is now the sole distributor for this sexy, amazing product, and the Tribe’s here to support her vision to a) make people drink more water (vs soft drinks) and stay healthy and b) reduce plastic waste: switch to SodaStream and you can save the world from 2000 plastic bottles and cans a year per family!
Last Wednesday’s event was great fun. Apart from sharing our personal convictions about the SodaStream lifestyle, we were also entertained by the lovely Ning Cai @ning.thing who had someone call out a number, colour and suit of card and then she just produced it out of a deck! Then three media guests competed in a SodaStream cocktail contest, judged (very seriously) by actor Jimmy T @jimmytaenaka, fitness lifestyle trainer Marie Choo @mariechoo and Chef Shen Tan @chefshentan . Loads of fun! Can’t wait for the next one!

Very cold & muddy.. Water reached just under our chest.
Before you decide to throw something on our streets. Think again. It usually gets blown into our beautiful streams & lakes.

SCROLL FOR DOCUMENTARY 🎥 WITH 📣 ON

From my recent visit to Raja Ampat, Papua
I joined the divers to discover some unoccupied islands around the area when we found that the beaches are covered by non-biodegradable #trash

While the others were having coffee, I took the inninitiative to gather the rubbish to take back to the resort with us, but beyond my knowledge - the pile had gone into smoke & flames.
The boy who works at the resort informed me back then that the City of Sorong hasn't got a recycling center - that any trash piling up over there will only get burned eventually.
It is not only harmful for living beings respiratory system, burning garbage releases various kinds of deadly chemicals to the air & can add up to greenhouse gases & can cause a forest fire in multiple ways.
With further research I discovered that Papua has @misool.foundation (Yayasan Misool Baseftin) that strives to make Raja Ampat as clean as it potentially can be. And that @banksampahsorongraya is making great movements in the same direction.
I've also gathered so many of the brown bottles like what @indonesiamermaidpod @mermaiddyssa @madacendani collected at @pulautundapunyacerita
I suspect the fishermen need their energy drink to stay awake late at night to do their duty(?)
As you can see, many locals still don't understand how their actions affect the environment.
We must keep educating each other.
Watching the documentary film @plasticoceans is a starting point!
Nevertheless @papuaparadisecoresort is making an awesome move to reduce the usage of plastic bottles & cups on Birie Island by providing each guest their own personal metal water bottle & a generous amount of potable water in each guesthouse. Kudos to the resort!

Y'all know I love and care about the environment and @boxedwater is a brand that's truly striving to make a difference. Boxed Water is a better alternative to plastic bottles, as it's made of mostly paper, a renewable resource, unlike oil-based plastic. Photo by @jasperdoest // Mangroves, which are renowned for their ability to grow in near-permanent or permanent bodies of water and/or extremely high levels of salt. Galapagos mangroves are particularly remarkable due to their age. These trees grow from volcanic floor with limited nutrients and therefore grow very slowly; any developed mangrove habitat in the islands is most likely thousands of years old.

When cleaning up these mangroves in Puerto Ayora, while I was #onassignment in #Galapagos for #wwf, the 80 volunteers mobilized by Alberto Andrade found 228 plastic bottles and 245 plastic bottle caps within these waters.

Solutions to the problem of plastics in our oceans are being pursued all around the world. Scientists and researchers are working to devise methods to help remove the plastics currently overwhelming the oceans, from large-scale Ocean Cleanup project to unique and smaller-scale approaches to help combat ocean plastics.
Perhaps even more important than removing the plastics already in the ocean though is the need to stop plastics from getting into the water in the first place. Solutions to that problem are not as simple on a grand scale in the way the Ocean Cleanup project works, however, it is an issue that each one of us can help to address by simply reducing.

Every single day we spend on the beach, we pick up endless amounts of plastic trash. Just today, while walking our friend's dog, we picked up more than three bags full of plastic bottles, utensils, straws AND countless bits of styrofoam pieces that used to be coffee cups, plates or to-go containers. Styrofoam or polystyrene which is just another type of plastic expanded with 95% air is the worst. Its lightweight allows easy access to waterways and finally into the ocean where it breaks down into tiny pieces ingested by marine life which eventually ends up on our plates, too. Living so close to the sea makes this problem very visible whereas back home, where you just toss your trash in the bin - out of sight out of mind - it is very easy to forget about what happens to the trash that we're creating or where it ends up.
Especially during my travels, I have done a very good job REFUSING single-use plastic, REDUCING my trash consumption by bringing my reusable water bottle, shopping bag, utensils and tupperware, REUSING what I have consumed and having RECYCLED whenever possible. I believe that we all can do our parts in helping with our plastic-trash problem with a little bit of awareness and reminder! So let’s pass on the message: SAY NO to single-use plastic helping our environment to recover! #refuse #reduce #recycle #reuse #sustainable #sayno #singleuseplastic #sustainableliving #oceanlover #protectouroceans #protectwhatyoulove #beachcleanup #take3forthesea

I've surfed breaks all over the world and was shocked to learn in the film @chasingcoral that we've lost 50% of coral reefs in the last 30 years from warming ocean water. That's why on World Oceans Day, I'm taking the Unstoppable Voter Pledge to take action for our ocean. By pledging, you're committing to vote in midterm elections this year and sending a powerful message to candidates that people who care about the environment are showing up. Join me in taking the pledge at UnstoppableVoter.com. If you haven’t already, check out this film too. It’s beautifully done and super educational. And then third action step? Invest in an @alex_bottle reusable insulated mug (link in bio) to help cut down on the 164 million disposable coffee cups that are tossed away daily, many of which end up in our oceans along with all of those single use disposable plastic bottles. We all have a voice, how are you using yours? We all make choices every single day, are you making the long-lasting sustainable ones? We all have a vote, let’s rise up together and use our power! #ourtimeisnow 📸 @tyhaft
