More amazing art works from the #sexworkartwork exhibition celebrating human rights, sexual empowerment and benefiting @beautyforfreedom these pieces are extremely captivating and exquisite. — ✨💋✨💋✨ — Repost

Artist: @gumshoeart - This is a sad painting. Current events around the country are infuriating and heartbreaking. My intention here was not to make the viewer laugh,- Obviously there is humor to this image, but my purpose in creating this piece was to place these men in a vulnerable, degrading position. An understanding of the history of Picasso’s painting strengthens my message. Picasso painted five prostitutes in an uncomplimentary manner, removing any soft lines traditionally used to represent female beauty, replacing them with harsh, sharp lines. Original sketches of the painting included a skull, making it a vanitas painting - vanitas are meant to make the viewer question their moral choices. Picasso removed the skull and the other figures, leaving the focus on the five woman starring at the viewer, representing his lust and anxiety towards them. There are some, among other reason I choose Picasso’s composition. By placing these men in this painting, the viewer gets a front row seat of one of their victims under their unwanted gaze.

Salvador Dalí. The Enigma of Desire. 1929. Oil on canvas. 30 x 52 cm. Pinakothek der Moderne. München.
The Enigma of Desire is one of Dalí's earliest contributions to the Surrealist movement, the first work sold during his first solo exhibition at the Goemans Gallery, and the corner stone piece of this exhibition. It depicts a Catalonian landscape with a boy and man embracing in the background. The Surrealist Movement was heavily influenced by Freud; Dalí's exploration Freudian thought, his childhood and obsessions take center stage in The Enigma of Desire. Dalí's mother died when he was 17 and his father married her sister the following year. Dalí's carried his yearning for his mother with him through out his life, and is made evident in this painting, not only through the title, but also through the repetition of "ma mère" (French for my mother) on the rock like form. The rock that Dalí identifies himself with is attached to the lower left of the larger rock structure, indicative of Dalí's attachment to his mother and his identity in her. Dalí's rock is covered in ants which symbolizes death and decay as well as intense sexual desire. The placement of ants on Dalí's rock could be indicative of Dalí's awareness of his own mortality, especially in reference to the death of his mother. A lion's head resides above the man and boy embracing and on the upper right of the rock; its connotation is fear and aggression. This use of the lion's head could be indicative of the fear and aggression Dalí experience in his relationship with his father. The Enigma of Desire is a reminder of human mortality, our own and those closest to us, encouraging us to appreciate others for the short time that we hold them in our presence.

.
Here was an artist of the everyday and the edible, and what could be more quotidian than an apple? She ate them for breakfast herself, she said.
.
But the “wonderful wicked apple,” as she once called it, also has a sinful lore – and she channelled it. To look at the Red Delicious in Ms. Pratt’s Glassy Apples (1994) is to think of Eve as readily as pie. The reds are a little sanguine. The skin glints like it’s coated with something. Cut in half, one seems to lie belly up and vivisected.
.
This, too, was characteristic of Ms. Pratt, who died on Tuesday at the age of 83. Her immaculate photorealist surfaces often contained a short story’s worth of sublimated pain and angst.
.
The comparison has been made before, but Ms. Pratt really was the Alice Munro of painting – and not only because, as with the Nobel winner, she was among the finest practitioners of her form this country has produced, an art-world giant not only in her own province of Newfoundland and Labrador, but across the country, a status capped by the National Gallery of Canada’s triumphant solo retrospective of her work in 2015.
.
Both women became great artists while doubling as housewives and dwelled in their art on the darkness and frustrations of being a married woman in their generation: the drudgery, the sexual daydreams, the curdling of spousal love, the grinding work and sudden disasters attendant on motherhood and the female body.

Just a quick post to answer some of the emails I got in one shot. There is a body painting event in NYC that I used to support, help run and even help fund. Not sure when it is happening but sadly this “Org” is not inline with my personal views anymore (for the last 2 years at least). The straw the broke the camel’s back was a huge blowup between me and the main organizer over my refusal to allow sexual deviants to participate in what I had hoped would be a positive event. While I respect freedom of speech, I feel that we have to work even harder to hold sexual deviants accountable while supporting the countless victims who might be too afraid or even ashamed to come forward (especially in the of age the #metoo movement). So no, I don’t care about nor do I want to be anywhere near the vicinity of this thing - it’s to upsetting for me. But don’t let my overly sensitive sense of morality stop you if you want to go - just take it for what it is and don’t try to find deeper meaning because there is non (at least nothing real or substantial). That said, let’s show some love for the incredible artist @brightandshiningfp for creating this beautiful work of art and for the brave canvas @foxemartin - it is not easy putting yourself out there, #fullynaked in front of thousands of people in #Nyc 💪 #allbodiesaregoodbodies #beautyisdiversity #effyourbeautystandards #feminism #feminist #intersectionalfeminism #bodyimage #bodypositive #bodylove #bodypainting #nudemodel #bodypaintmodel #bodyart #bodyartist #bodymodel #lifeart #nakedisnormal #nybpd #bodypaint #activistart #bodyart

What does my art, my exhibit tonight in Manhattan, and the United Nations have to do with each other on the International Down Syndrome Day? Well, the muse for this art piece is Tathi - and she has Down Syndrome. Today is The International Down Syndrome Day. Tathi is an accomplished playwright, actress, and author! She truly has no fear or limits. She wants to be seen as a powerful and confident woman through my art. She wants to say that she too can be a normal and even sexual woman. That is how this painting came about, from a chat between her, myself, and two other collaborating artists (Nila Costa and Manu Militão). Today is her day, and today we speak at the United Nations about the mission of our exhibit (that takes place tonight in NY). That is the power of art folks...get on board! See you tonight for a Cocktail Opening Reception at 6:30 at Saphira and Ventura Art Gallery at 4W 43rd St Suite #415, in Manhattan, NYC.

Stuart Sutcliffe was more than just the progenitor of @thebeatles haircuts; his artistic and poetic talents were far more progressive and advanced than those of his bandmates during his tenure, while his innovative style was an undoubted influence on them too, supplying the prototype for what would later be dubbed the "mop top" courtesy of his girlfriend, Astrid Kirchherr. He had met @johnlennonofficial at Liverpool College Of Art in 1957, the pair embarking on an intense friendship that sparked dynamic creative ideas, fierce competition and, as rumoured, simmering sexual intimacy, and accepted Lennon's invitation to join his fledgling band alongside @georgeharrisonofficial and @paulmccartney as bassist, reportedly giving them the name The Beatals in tribute to his beloved Beat writers. Stuart endured the wild, chaotic and seemingly endless performances in Hamburg, but his developing relationship with Kirchherr, and her encouragement of his painting skills, was already pulling him away from music. Not that The Beatles cared much - he was admittedly a poor bassist, and had constantly withstood the aggressive rivalry of McCartney, whose heightened musicianship would beget a profound ambitiousness, and fought for the attentions and affections of Lennon to realise that envisioned success. In early-1961, after tolerating the band conflicts and Lennon’s own belligerence, he quit The Beatles to devote himself to painting, accepting a place at Hamburg’s art school to study under the renowned pop artist, Eduardo Paolozzi, who said of Sutcliffe’s talents: “He had so much energy and was so very inventive. The feeling of potential just splashed out from him. He had the right kind of sensibility and arrogance to succeed.” Tragically, Stuart died aged just 21 on this day in April 1962, succumbing to an undiagnosed brain aneurysm in Astrid’s arms. He never lived to see the stratospheric triumphs of his former friends, nor the acceptance and celebration of his now treasured works, but his is a name that will forever be associated with unrealised greatness. #stuartsutcliffe #thebeatles #RIP #liverpool #painter #artist #bassist #johnlennon #paulmccartney #georgeharrison #hamburg

Adults commit ADULTery.
Adults become ADULTerers.
Adults are ADULTerous.

You become immoral, untrustworthy, discontented, gluttonous, destructive, selfish, nuerotic and every possible negative trait known to man when you start engaging in sexual activity.
The demons dance in your body, moving you around like a sock puppet for their carnal pleasures. You become sedated and docile as you give up your convictions and your self-esteem for momentary pleasure.
You begin to grow accustom being confused and unsure of what you should do. You begin to excuse abuse both what you do unto others and what they do unto you.

If you are not cherished, then why open your knees?
If you are not loved, then what makes him worth your time?
You open yourself up to demonic possession and all manner of mental imbalances when a man enters your "temple". Be serious about your body so that you do not start doing what " Adults" do!!
Carry On...

Aly Raisman was recently a part of the Sports Illustrated Swimsuit Edition feature “ In Her Own Words”. There are still a couple of days left to check out Betty Tompkins at Rodolphe Janssen Gallery in Brussels! The New York-based artist, here pictured in her studio, is mainly known for her so-called “Fuck Paintings”, large-scale, close-up, photorealistic depictions of sexual organs, masturbation, or sexual intercourse. Due to the delicate subject matter, gallerists and critics overlooked her for decades, and, despite her feminist intention, experienced backlash from the anti-pornography feminist wing. That all changed when in 2003 the artist was invited to participate in the 7th Biennale de Lyon, and the Centre Georges Pompidou acquired Fuck Painting #1 for its permanent collection the same year.⠀

FROM THE DIGITAL LIBRARY | On September 6, the Indian Supreme Court decriminalized consensual homosexual sex in a landmark ruling for gay rights. To celebrate, we look back at the practice of Indian artist Bhupen Khakhar—the country’s first openly homosexual artist—who fought for love against all odds, and stood against the censure of desire. In her Feature on Khakhar, published in issue 98, contributing editor Jyoti Dhar writes: “One could say, with the way he is said to have caressed his canvases as he worked, loosely applying color and taking the time to depict every detail of the body with care, that painting itself was a sensual act for him. Two Men in Benaras [pictured] does seem indicative of both duration and generosity in the way it lovingly portrays many perspectives at the same time: from the simultaneous privileging and normalizing of the sexual act, to drawing parallels between human desire and godly worship.” Read the full article to learn more about how Khakhar navigated homoerotic motifs, sexuality and art: https://bit.ly/2GEVRLr (link in bio)

I quote from @frieze_magazine online: ‘@national_gallery in London has bought a 17th century Artemisia Gentileschi self-portrait for a record GBP£3.6 million. The gallery has just 20 works by female artists in its collection of 2,300 Western European paintings. In Self-Portrait as Saint Catherine (c. 1615–17) (detail here) the artist took on the guise of the 4th century martyr, leant over a spiked wheel (the torture instrument associated with the saint). Some critics have read the work as an allusion to Gentileschi’s own experience of sexual violence, and the ensuing trial in which the artist was subjected to torture. Gallery trustee Hannah Rothschild said that the acquisition of the masterpiece realizes a long-held dream of increasing the collection’s women artists, adding that ‘Gentileschi was a pioneer, a master storyteller and one of the most progressive and expressive painters of the period. One of a handful of women who was able to shatter the confines of her time, she overcame extreme personal difficulties to succeed in the art of painting.’ Larry Keith, the National Gallery’s head of conservation, will lead the painting’s restoration process over the next six to nine months before the work will go on show in 2019.’ #artemesiagentileschi

This is the last weekend to see  #DallasContemporary’s  #EricFischl exhibition, “If Art Could Talk”, on view through Sunday. Since the 1980s, Fischl established a renewed interest in painting with his blending of film and photography based decisive moments that incorporated awkward or surreal scenes set in suburban situations. Since that time his practice has developed, although his focus remained on representations of the human figure, to address the subject the contemporary art market. The paintings depict art fairs and feature intricate compositions where people and artworks are layered in sophisticated arrangements of form and color. These paintings demonstrate the artist's observation of body language and the small details that reflect social relationships, particularly in the heady environment of the art fair, with its charged atmosphere of money and taste, financial, and cultural capital.

#BettyTompkins’s recent series isolates apologia (formal defenses of conduct) by men accused of sexual harassment or assault, and superimposes them upon masterworks of the Western canon torn from art history books. In Apologia (Artemisia Gentileschi #4), an excerpt from Knight Landesman’s response to allegations of sexual misconduct—in his role as publisher of Artforum—partially obscures a reproduction of Susanna and the Elders (1610), by the Italian Baroque painter Artemisia Gentileschi. In 1611, the painter Agostino Tassi raped Gentileschi, and the young artist testified at a highly-publicized trial in 1612. By juxtaposing Landesman’s words with Gentileschi’s painting, which portrays the biblical story in which two male elders attempt to blackmail Susanna into sex, Tompkins alludes to the historical legacy of both the depiction and perpetuation of sexual violence. #HalfthePictureBKM⠀

“I wanted to make these animals, which are quite hidden away from humans, more visible again. The whole proposition of using animals in an artwork is a contentious issue…I worked very closely with the bulls’ handlers, who knew each of the bulls' personalities. I wanted to make something that wouldn't allow people to turn away easily or just call it pretty.” - Maria Mckinney, artist.

“In urban areas there’s often very little sense of where milk and beef actually come from: their production, the science behind it, and the health and welfare issues that link to it. It’s good that ‘Sire’ gets people to think about these processes without imposing judgement on them.” - Professor Michael Doherty, scientist and collaborator on ‘Sire'.
