A @rayban STORY
...
This lady glares right into us and says that she is 35 ! She sells flowers and " puja ka saaman " outside the Shiva Temple. " puja ka saaman " is everything one needs to perform prayers in a Hindu temple. It involves fruits, flowers, candles, agarbatti, sindoor and many other things people believe in gifting to God as a gesture. These beliefs have been passed on for centuries and is an integral part of the community as devotees.
...
So we casually asked her if she can see God ? ...
Ayooo !! She chuckles and then tells us something rather profound. She says " I can not see God but I see the faith that we all carry for the almighty. Praying, she says is a good habit. It keeps your soul intact and it keeps you answerable to God !

What kind of woman am I?

The kind that desires freedom + mutual respect.
You want me to love you forever then set me free to run wild and fill my heart with all its desires. Then watch me return to your heart over and over. Again and again.
Respect me for who I am, what I stand for, my talents, power, my light, my Venus, wisdom, Shakti, beauty, intelligence, body, soul, spirit, heart and all my imperfections. I will dance this life with you and never get tired.
Hold my heart as if it were the most precious Gem you've ever seen. Delicate and rare. One to cherish, love and let shine so bright. In that my devotion to you will have me bowing to your lotus feet.

Let me pour God into you and you into I. From there we will be as rich as one needs. Thriving and vibrating at the highest frequencies. Through that I am you and you are me. You are my very Self.

A city where you can find different temples and there's even a golden temple for "lord shiva". A city where you can find at most 200 ghats along the river bank, esch ghat represents a god and each god has its own lifestyle and a culture to follow. A city where cremation of 200-300 bodies along the river bank are done esch day. A city where hindu culture is so rich that you might find it interesting.

Lasty, its the only city that i visited where i stepped on a cow's pooped for several times for only 5 days.

In the Hindu religion, each of the major deities is associated with something called a vahana; a bird or animal on which he or she rides. This sculpture is of Nandi the bull, vahana of the powerful god Shiva.

Carved out of hard basalt stone, this sculpture has the typically sweet and beguiling expression of these bovine creatures which has made them a favourite animal subject for Indian sculptors and painters over the centuries.

Shiva’s association with a bull dates from very early times. The significance of the bull as a symbol of fertility and strength was widespread in India as early as the Indus Valley Civilization (about 2000 BC), as well as in ancient Egypt, Greece and the Near East.

Mount Kailash is the mighty Himalayan range and the abode of Lord Shiva and his consort Godess Parvathi. It is believed that Lord Shiva resides in a meditative state and thus the peak is regarded as ultimate destination of spiritual peace.
It is situated at an altitude of 22,028 ft (6,714 meters) above sea level in Western Tibetan plateau. It is one of the most sacred journeys for Hindus. The sins of those undertake this journey shall be washed away for those who complete ‘Parikrama’. Some of mystical facts of Kailash Manasarovar are as below:
Source to Major Indian Rivers
Many of us do not know that Mount Kailash is the source to Brahmaputra, Indus, Sutlej; Further the stunning Manasarovar Lake and Rakshas Lake can be found here.... Four different Faces
It is said that the four faces of Mount Kailash are created from lapis lazuli, ruby, crystal and gold.... Another scintillating; yet mysterious fact is that the two lakes, i.e, Kailash and Rakshas Lake have different shapes. While, the sacred Manasarovar Lake is ’round’ in shape, the Rakshasa Lake has the shape of Moon. The two lakes represent solar and lunar forces which indicate good and negative energies respectively... No one has climbed this Mountain, except a Buddhist Yogi
It is believed that the sacred mountain can only be circumambulated.... Sun God pays his homage to Lord Shiva every day as the Sun Sets, the shadow falling on the rocks draws a huge swastika...Time Travels quickly... A Russian study reveals that Kailash Manasarovar is a human built pyramid and the centre of the world... As of today, science has neither been able to prove the existence of these creatures nor has been able to explain certain phenomena that are credited to alien beings. the possibility of encountering aliens in India has piqued our curiosity and only given us one more reason to embark on a voyage to the Himalayas. Immortal beings, ghosts, red snow, Yeti the snow monster, UFOs, extraterrestrial life – what else is the colossal Himalayan range hiding from us? We cannot wait to find out. ✨🙏🐉🌍👑💎

Happy #NationalPetDay! While we wouldn't quite call them pets, some #Buddhist & #Hindu deities are associated w/ animal mounts, or vahana. These animals play key roles in the life stories of the deities & exhibit the attributes of the gods. 🐮❤️
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
Above is a sculpture of #Parvati in her form known as #Kashmira. Several of its attributes display Kashmira's connection w/ her husband #Shiva: she has a crescent moon in her hair, holds a trident, & wears a tiger skin skirt. However, the most telling & endearing connection to her husband is her vahana, Shiva’s beloved bull, #Nandi. A popular god in his own right, sculptures of Nandi generally sit outside of Shiva temples serving as a gatekeeper.

And today we dedicate it to Nataraja- Lord of Dance ( in Sanskrit), another name of Shiva.
"Shiva represents apocalypse and creation as he dances away the illusory world of Maya transforming it into power and enlightenment.
The symbolism of Shiva Nataraja is religion, art and science merged as one. In God's endless dance of creation, preservation, destruction, and paired graces is hidden a deep understanding of our universe. Aum Namah Sivaya.
Bhashya Nataraja, the King of Dance, has four arms. The upper right hand holds the drum from which creation issues forth. The lower right hand is raised in blessing, betokening preservation. The upper left hand holds a flame, which is destruction, the dissolution of form. The right leg, representing obscuring grace, stands upon Apasmarapurusha, a soul temporarily earth-bound by its own sloth, confusion and forgetfulness. The uplifted left leg is revealing grace, which releases the mature soul from bondage. The lower left hand gestures toward that holy foot in assurance that Siva's grace is the refuge for everyone, the way to liberation. The circle of fire represents the cosmos and especially consciousness. The all-devouring form looming above is Mahakala, "Great Time." The cobra around Nataraja's waist is kundalini shakti, the soul-impelling cosmic power resident within all.
Nataraja's dance is not just a symbol. It is taking place within each of us, at the atomic level, this very moment. The Agamas proclaim, "The birth of the world, its maintenance, its destruction, the soul's obscuration and liberation are the five acts of His dance." ✨🕉 source: http://www.lotussculpture.com/nataraja1.html 🌙 Art by @sda_originals 🙏@read first @omconnection @shaannt

The chants of Shiva prayers are usually considered ones that dispel fear and boost one’s inner strength. They are many ways of celebrating this festival include chanting of prayers, fasting, performing Yoga, and even maintaining an overnight ‘jagran’ as Hindus mark this festival as an opportunity to “overcome darkness and ignorance.” In many Shiva temples, the prayer ‘Om Namah Shivaay’ is chanted through the night.

All religions derive their roots from Paganism which is basically the worship of the elements of nature . Lord Shiva co-relates back to the sky according to the Upanishads contrary to the image that we have of him however I also do believe in the calmness great temples , mosques , gurudwaras and churches can provide to a soul . Religion is that science which is beyond the science that we know .
Most great Hindu pilgrimages seek the pilgrim to travel a long distance by foot and it tries to say that It’s in the journey that you find yourself and not co-incidentally enough there are great God Men or Maha- purush who have found God In trying to find themselves .
In the end , I’d like to say that this is the best gift I could give to myself on my 25th birthday . I trekked uphill for about 6-7 hours for a 18(or so ) kms lone- journey and I entered the temple at the same time I was born and came out sobbing as I once had out of my mother’s womb 25 years ago .
I urge more youth to try spirituality . An out to body experience is the most beautiful experience one can ever have . #shivoham #sobeyond #sowithin .

I visited the highest Shiva temple in the world, and when I knelt down to pray to Shiva to help me with my own efforts to be of better service to the world a giant storm started the moment I went to my knees. God is real and everywhere and always listening, but God only shows itself to those who surrender to him/her completely. I have learned the power of prayer in my awakening in 2012, I have learned the power of surrendering to the forces of nature much more powerful than anything I could ever understand and in that, I have learned the power of this divine thread of God and how it works through the power of my own heart. Portrait of a little Rajasthani boy dressed as a Hindu God Lord Shiva.
Photo was taken in the streets of Pushkar, where he was accepting money/offerings from the passing by tourists in exchange for taking his photo. It is considered also to be a good luck.
His mother was at his side all the time, watching over him as this is their custom during religious festivals.

A @UNESCO World Heritage Site, it was originally built during the reign of the Hindu Sanjaya Dynasty and is dedicated to the Trimūrti or the three great Hindu divinities - the expression of God as the Creator (Brahma), the Preserver (Vishnu) and the Transformer (Shiva). Ages ago I was semi involved with a project revolving around the mahabharata. An ancient text based on Hindu deities. The text itself is the possibly the longest fictional texts to date. An epic story of love, war and tragedy.

The principal character, Karna, a demi God warrior who learnt martial arts by hiding his true identity. Becomes a sole opponent of all things unrighteous and a powerful warrior with armour and weapons bestowed on him by the gods.

Steeped in one of the first martial arts, kalaripayattu, its a fighters world.

.
The penjor is a tall, curved bamboo pole decorated with coconut leaves with an offering at the base. This is one of the media used by Hindus in Bali as part of almost every important ceremony, especially for the anniversary temple celebrations.
During Galungan celebrations, each family erects a penjor outside their gate, which makes the whole neighborhood look splendid.
.
Here are some materials used in making a Penjor:
1. White Cloth - to symbolize the power of the mighty Hyang Iswara (The almighty god)
2. Bamboo with the perfect curve - to symbolize the power of The Mighty Brahma (The god of creation)
3. Young Palm Leaves (for Janur) - to symbolize the power of Hyang Mahadewa (The great protector)
4. Coconut - to symbolize the power of Hyang Rudra (The god of storm and unpredictable danger)
 5. Leaves such as Andong Leaves, fern leaves, etc. - to symbolize the power of Hyang Sangkara (The god of plants)
6. Banana or cucumber (Pala Bungkah) - to symbolize the power of Hyang Wisnu (The god of the world and restorer of moral order)
7. Sugar Cane - to symbolize the power of God Shambhu
8. Sanggah Ardha Candra (The holy tray) - to symbolize the power of Shiva (The great god)

The Atharvasikha Upanishad suggests that meditation has to be done on the single letter 'Om' because it is in itself the mantra for meditation. Its four legs are the four devas and the four Vedas while the syllable itself is equal to Para Brāhman (Ultimate reality). It states, "The five gods Brahma, Vishnu, Rudra, Ishwara and Shiva should be worshipped in the form of pranava (Aa + Uu+ Ma + half sound + Bindu.)" Aum is known as "pranava" because it makes everyone bow before it and as Omkara because it sends forth the currents of the life-force upward. The Upanishad identifies the constituent sounds of the syllable Aum with Brahma, Vishnu and Shiva, and Brāhman, and explains their symbolism in the following manner.
The sound a represents the earth, the hymn of praise (ric), Rigveda, Brahma, the eight deities known as Vasus, the sacred Gayatri mantra, the garhyapatya fire, the color of red and dedicated to Brahma.
The sound u refers to the atmosphere (antariksha), the sacrificial formula known as Yajus, the Yajurveda, god Vishnu, the atmospheric deities known as Rudras, the meter trishtbhu, the dakshina fire, brightness, and dedicated to Rudra.
The sound m represents heaven, the sacred chant saman, the Samaveda, god Vishnu, the 12 solar deities known as Adityas, the meter jagati, the ahavaniya fire, the color black and dedicated to Vishnu.
The nasalized half part of the sound m which is let out while chanting Aum is described as the Atharvan chants, the Atharvaveda, the fire of universal destruction, the wind gods known as Maruts, the universal Virat, lightning like, multicolored and dedicated to Brāhman or Purusha. 🌸💞

Beloved Shiva. 💗
My relationship with Shiva is one of the most challenging ones in my life. Since receiving his mantra almost a year ago and started practicing Laya yoga, I've been on a deep journey, reuniting with my cosmic lover, teacher, father.
🕉️
Shiva represents that hypostasis of God that is manifested as Great Savior or Great Master of the ignorant, limited beings. Any sincere, frantic aspiration towards the state of spiritual freedom is addressed in fact to this aspect of God, Shiva the Good and Kind. Any sign of the manifestation of the divine grace, which is indispensable to reaching the state of supreme spiritual freedom is closely connected to Shiva.
🙏
When I started to understand and truly seek, cultivate and enhance Polarity of the masculine and feminine (Shiva&Shakti), I also started to face numerous challenges within me. It became so transparent that for my whole life I never wanted to be in my feminine as much, and even less wanted to surrender to the masculine. But also, as I'm practicing more, learning more, experiencing all the ecstatic states, I became to the point of no return, I want to throw myself into the arms of Shiva. The journey is on. I belong to Shiva and I belong to Grieg, our spiritual guide that helps me get there.

Although The Muslims And Hindus Argue Over Mnetheism And Polytheism, One This Is For Certain, God Is One.
In Islam, The Sacred Stone Of The Muslims Located In Mecca Is Part Of The Pilgrimage Known As The Hajj, One Of The Five Pillars Of Islam. What Most Muslims Don't Know Is That The Arabs Who Owned That Specific Area Of Saudi Arabia Were Practicing Polytheistic Traditions. The Female Arabian Goddess Name Is Allait, While The Male Is Known As Allah, Father And Mother God, Equal In Power. Today The Idea Of A Females God Is Completely Rejected . I'm All About Female Male Empowerment. Now Muhammad Comes Directly From The Line Of Ishmael, Abraham's First Born Son With Hager Of Egypt. The Stone Of Mecca Was Never Mentioned In The Torah Although It Is Claimed To Be Given To Abraham And Passed To Ishmael For This Reason It Is Extremely Important. Now Studying The "Sekina Kaaba" Stone As It Is Called, Researchers Ha e Identified That It Is In Fact, Of Alien Origin, The Metal Is Found In Meteorite. Its Said That The Prophet Muhammad Received The Stone Later On From An Angel. whether Speculated Or Not, The Stone Is Kissed By Millions Of Muslim pilgrims Today. Now We Get To The Second Stone, The Shiva lingam Seen On The Right.
The Shovalingham Has Been Regarded As A Sacred Symbol Of The Universal Forces Of Male And Female For Centuries . Many Shiva Temples Were Destroyed In Iraq, Saudi Arabia And Afghanistan During The Muslim Raids Of The 5th Century AD.
Shiva Lingam Is The Sacred Phallus And Yoni Combining Male And Female Polarities. Shiavites, (Followers Of Shiva) Offer Milk And Water To It Monthly To Seek Requests And Boons From The Universe Which They Call Shiva Shakti.
Radical Islamist Will Never Admittedly Say That There Is A Imistakable Connection Between The Two Practices, I For One See The Striking Resemblance Of The Two Stones. The Sekina Kaaba Means The Holy Black Stone But The Word For Holy Or Sanctified Is Sekina , Similar To The Hebrew Word Shekina Which Translates As (Gods Feminine Dwelling Place)
Consider The Two Shapes, The Resemblance Is Unarguable. Thank You For Reading!

Like all Indian festivals, the festival of Rakhi has numerous tales associated with it. Here are some famous brothers and sisters from Hindu Mythology.

According to Hindu mythology first rakhsa Bandhan was between goddesses Parvati and lord Vishnu. Goddess Parvati grew up with the hope of marrying Shiva but as Shiva refused to marry her due to the loss of his love Sati. Goddess Parvati works hard to make herself eligible to marry Shiva and Lord Vishnu helps her reach her goal. It is said that Lord Vishnu asked her to tie a rakhi on his wrist, so that as her brother he could remove all obstacles coming her way. Legend has it, that for Shiva and Parvati’s celestial marriage, Lord Vishnu performed all the ceremonies that are supposed to be done by the bride’s brother.

Ravana and Surpanakha:-
Ravana, the king of Lanka and the most knowledgeable of all, loved his sister a lot. The entire Ramayana happened because of his brotherly love for Surpanakha. Ravana abducted Sita to take revenge for his sister Surpanakha. According to the legend Surpanakha lost her heart to Rama at first sight, and when he politely refuses she turns her affection towards Laxmana, who not only rejects her but also cuts her nose and ears. Surpanakha with bleeding nose and ears goes to her brother King Ravana and complains about them. Ravana in a rage abducts Sita and the saga of Ramayana is born. It is said that when Ravana was leaving Lanka to take revenge on Rama, Surpanakha has tied a sacred thread.
Krishna and Draupadi
Perhaps the most popular of the Rakhi stories in our mythology is that of Lord Krishna and Draupadi.
It is said that once Krishna cut his little finger.Draupadi who was watching simply tore off a part of her sari and bandaged his finger. In return for this deed, Krishna promised to protect her in time of distress. And that was how Draupadi’s sari became endless and saved her embarrassment on the day she was disrobed in full public view in king Dritarashtra’s court.

Happy Rakhsa Bandhan to all my loving sisters may god give you more joy more fun more happiness with colourful life ❤️❤️❤️🙏🏼🙏🏼🙏🏼

However, it keeps showing up. It has shown up in the sequence of the last three classes I’ve taken; 2 today 🤷🏽‍♀️. I decided to dig a little deeper.. The sanskrit/English I was familiar with... Parivrtta Hasta Padanghsthasana / Revolved Hand-to-foot Pose

BUT 👉🏼 Dancing Shiva Pose I hadn’t heard before. It’s a translation that relates more to the experience of the pose rather than the literal translation. 😍. I read, “Shiva is the god of destruction and transformation. Shiva is known for his ability to remain in a state of bliss even amidst change and chaos. Dancing Shiva pose can teach us to remain blissfully still amongst challenge.” .
This... this relates so deeply to events that transpired in my personal life last Friday. I was required to remain calm in chaos - no, I wasn’t required. It was necessary. Not for myself but for those around the situation as well. I wasn’t necessarily blissful amidst the chaos.. but I’ll leave it at that. I choose to keep this vague, again, not for myself. .
(I also saw reference to king dancer/natarajasana as the same name Dancing Shiva Pose👇🏼 Comments welcomed on this) #RandomShare

The chubby, gentle, intelligent, elephant-headed Ganesha or Ganapati is one of the most popular Hindu gods. He is the remover of obstacles and the one whom worshippers first acknowledge when they visit a temple or embark on a new venture. With his broken tusk, Ganesha wrote part of the epic Mahabharata.

The elephant god has always fascinated sculptors, painters and writers alike. If his appearance has captivated most painters, what has most intrigued them about Lord Ganesha is his vehicle, the tiny mouse. There are many stories about how such a creature came be the elephant god's mount. One such story says many people came to Lord Shiva and Parvati's house to see their new child. Everybody gave some gifts. The Earth gave a mouse as Ganapati's vehicle.

Ganesha is the god of ganas or groups: He is the head of followers of Shiva or the celestial servants of Lord Shiva. That is why he is also called Gananayaka or Ganapati.
Ganeshas mouse is the most unexpected mode of travel, imaginable –an elephant on a mouse! However, the significance runs deeper, the mouse snips nibbling away at ropes that bind. The mouse who gradually nibbles through things is like mantra which can cut through sheets and sheets of ignorance and carry even an elephant. There can be nothing but absolute darkness and all that is required is a single tiny ray of ray that can illuminate us – free us from our ignorance. Not much is required at all – just this tiny persistent awareness. Even the implements Ganesha wields are symbolic, He carries in His hands ‘the Ankusha’ (the goad/stick that is used to prod an elephant awake; this signifies ‘awakening’) and the ‘Paasa’ (the noose which signifies control) now with awakening a lot of energy is released which without proper guidance can go haywire.! ✨🌈🐘🌿🍚🕉🐀🌀🎨🖌🌈🙏🏻✨

Photo 1: Sujata and Shiva surrounded by Shiva´s family members during the performance of their wedding in Kathmandu, Nepal.
Photo 2: Despite being a love marriage, Sujata cries with her sisters in-law and aunties at the end of her wedding ceremony. According to Newari tradition, after the wedding the bride must move to her husband´s home.
Photo 3: Sujata (center) dances with her in-law relatives in the last day of her 3days long wedding with Shiva (back on the right) in Bhaktapur, Nepal.

Either love or arrange, it´s said that a Nepali marriage is not between 2 people but between 2 families. And Newars are not exception. With the red color everywhere and surrounded by family and relatives, Newari wedding ceremonies last 2 or 3days. Sujata and Shiva fell in love one year before their wedding. Their families agreed to the marriage as they both belong to the Newar community. She’s happy for marrying the man she loves, but sad because she’ll leave her mother and brothers. After the wedding, the girl will move to her husband’s house, and her in-laws will be her family now. Doing so, Sujata has finished the 3 rituals reserved for her, a Newari woman´s three weddings.
These photos are part of the project “3 Weddings”, aiming to document the ancestral rituals carry on by women belonging to Newar community from Kathmandu Valley, Nepal.
Newari women get married 3 times in their lives: First with a fruit; then with the Sun; later with a man.
Although the third is with a man in an adult age, both first and second weddings are a representative marriage with God. Families believe in doing the rituals as a way to protect their daughters from the stigma of widowhood: if their future husband die, they’ll not be consider widows, as they had previously married with the God.
This is my last post. Thank you so much to everyone for your amazing feedback. And thanks to @_mallorybenedict and @dzalcman for giving me the chance to takeover the feed this week. It´s been a pleasure! Thanks above all for keeping alive @womenphotograph a very necessary organization I am so proud to be part of.
Wishing you all have an amazing next week! :) (Elena)

I asked him, ‘What do you know about
god? All you know is a bunch of words,
concepts. You have no clue as to what you
are talking about when you refer to god.

To you he is just an idea, an imagination
of what you believe to be the ultimate
energy and universal consciousness, or
whatever name you wish to give something
you know nothing about!’
.
The Brahmanda Purana* says,
Master is Shiva* sans his three eyes,
Vishnu* sans his four arms
Brahma* sans his four heads.
He is Parama Shiva* himself in human form

The master is real. He is the reality of the
ultimate cosmic energy. He is here and now.
He is in the present; He is the present. He
is the bridge between you and the concept
of god. In that sense he is greater than god.
People ask me, ‘Are you god?’ I tell them,
if you do not know what or who god is,
how can you ask me whether I am god? God
cannot be defined. He can only be
experienced.

Let me tell you one thing clearly, I am not
here to prove that I am god. I am here to
prove that you are god. I am not here to
prove my divinity. I am here to prove your
divinity." .

An excerpt from Valmiki Ramayana describes the birth of Parvati and her marriage to Shiva. “From Mena, this Ganga is emerged as an elder daughter to Himavanta, and a second daughter, by her name she is Uma, is also begotten by Himavanta, oh, Raghava. “And that Uma who is unified with her rigorous sacrament thus became a reverential to all the worlds, and that best one among mountains, Himavanta, gave such a daughter to Rudra, an unequalled one in His aspect.
Even as a young girl Parvati was in love with Lord Shiva. As she grew older, Parvati blossomed into a stunning woman filled with grace and beauty. While she captured the hearts of many kings and princes, she only had eyes for Shiva. In an effort to win his love and affection she decided to visit the cave where he was meditating and started cleaning and decorating it. However, he remained unmoved by her love and dedication. She also tried bringing fruits for him but he remained steadfast in his meditation. Not once did he open his eyes or acknowledge the presence of Parvati. It is said that Parvati then turned to the Goddesses of Love and Longing, Priti and Rati the consorts of Kama, the God of love and passion. They turned the cave that Shiva meditated in, into a garden of pleasure, filled with flowers, trees, birds and bees. Kama then, wasted no time in shooting Shiva with the arrow of desire. Enraged, Shiva opened his third eye and reduced Kama to ashes.
Finally Parvati decided to do what Sati had done to win over Shiva. Parvati left all the riches and comfort of her father’s palace and went to live in the forest as an ascetic. In her trials, Parvati surpassed even the greatest ascetics. She went through the most rigorous penance. Parvati’s Tapasya generated great amounts of energy and heat which finally reached Shiva who was shaken out of his meditation. Shiva wondered who it was that had wrenched him out of intense tapasya. He heard the story of how Parvati in order to have Shiva as her husband went through much rigorous self-mortification and achieved a state of asceticism almost akin to that of himself. So impressed was by her self-sacrifice that

Shiva means Auspiciousness & represents the principle of dissolution, & that everything in the Universe that has a name or form is perishable. Shiva is the original cause / process working that makes dissolution possible. Due to this, He is sometimes incorrectly referred to as the God of Destruction. We must remember that dissolution is a necessary process of creation. Shiva is usually depicted in a seated meditating pose or in a family setting with consort Parvati & sons Ganesha & Kartikeya, surrounded by bull and Ganas. Shiva is the symbol of simplicity & austerity, his clothes, decorations and abode are minimal. He wears a tiger or simple deer skin, sacred ash (vibhuti) smeared on his body, long hair tied in a knot, snakes around his neck & decorations on his arms. He is the embodiment of Tapas, Vairagya & Knowledge. Shiva is always meditating on the welfare of the Universe. GANGA, “Chid- Shakti” (pure consciousness, wisdom) represents knowledge flowing from Heaven to Earth through Shiva. CRESCENT MOON symbolizes complete control over the mind. THIRD EYE (which is usually closed) represents pure knowledge which burns away all dualities when opened. SACRED ASH represents spiritual wealth left over after dissolution of all worldly desires. BLUE NECK points to His extreme compassion for the world. He is holding poison in his neck & not completely swallowing it. TRISHULA (trident) shows that He is beyond three Gunas (Satva, Rajas, Tamas), Beyond three states of consciousness & beyond past, present & future. Beats of DAMAROO (drum) sets the cosmic rhythm by which the Universe maintains harmony & balance. SNAKE represents Kundalini Shakti (mystic spiritual energy) & a poisonous animal. Shiva is immune to its poison. NANDI (bull) is a vehicle of Shiva & signifies Dharma as well as pure Ananda (joy). TIGER SKIN, represents slain ego (ahankar) & control over lower nature. Shiva is the universal teacher who imparts knowledge through silence. Om Namah Shivaya ~ www.tymihoward.com #tymihoward 📷 @crisantosantaana #sedona #yogabender #bhakti #yogavibes

Mahashivratri is the day of Shiva. Wherever there is beauty, truth, and benevolence, there is Shiva. And, there is no place where the Shiva principle is absent. But, Shiva is not a person. It is that principle which is the summum bonum of the whole creation and pervades the entire universe. This principle, called the Shiva Tattva, is the quintessence of life and is present deep within every living being.

On Mahashivratri, we celebrate the Shiva Tattva by going deep within us, meditating, and rejoicing in the Shiva energy. There are certain days and time frames in a year when one’s mental health and spiritual faculties are enhanced and Mahashivratri is one such precious day. @mahadev_devadidev

"...Sambo as an Indian word, is a modified form of Shambhoo or Shambhu
the name for lord #Shiva one of the major three deities in Indian
mythology, who was self incarnated. Shambhu in turn is derived from
#Swayambhu which means someone who is self-manifested or created by its
own accord. Also #Svayambhuva Manu is the first man (analogus to Adam)
in Hindu mythology as he is also self manifested..."SOCRATES DESCRIBES SELF AS AFRICAN: In the Socratic Dialogue, Symposia, chapter V (perhaps first mentioned in the 1980s by Dr. Clyde Winters), Socrates gives a self-definition based on African features. In one of his last dialogues before his death, Socrates and Critobulus compete to win the Prize of Beauty; he, Socrates or Critobulus, a new colonist. And, who better to describe himself than himself? Socrates uses the following words to describe himself: He says his nose bridge isn’t high and nose not straight [e.g. 6, 9, 10] as Critobulus’ but “spread out wide and flat,” [5, 13, 14]. And both Critobulus and Socrates also speak of his “snub nose.” [see: 2, 3, 5, 7, 8, and 11 – 19]. Socrates specifically states that unlike Critobulus, he has “thick lips.” [see especially: 5, 11, 13, 14]. Equally convincing is that he describes himself as looking like the most handsome god “Selinus,” [11 – 16] and all will recognize them not as Mongol or white, but African as Socrates unabashedly and proudly describes himself – gloriously Sambo. This is amusing as white supremists, voicing the claim by the German philosopher George Hegel, state that Africans contributed nothing to civilization. Socrates gave philosophy departments and Hegel a job.
D. SOURCES SPEAKING TO SOCRATES’ AFRICAN PHYSIQUE: Ancient authority (Plat. Symp. 215a ff.; Xen. Symp. 5.7) speaks of Socrates’ stocky body [Attic actors, 500 BC # 17; and from Athen’s Temple of Hercules, 550 BC, #18]. The preceding were Pygmies as Plato describes Socrates’ psysiognomy.

Shiva (or Siva) is one of the most important gods in the Hindu pantheon and, along with Brahma and Vishnu, is considered a member of the holy trinity (trimurti) of Hinduism. A complex character, he may represent goodness, benevolence and serve as the Protector but he also has a darker side as the leader of evil spirits, ghosts and vampires and as the master of thieves, villains and beggars. He is also associated with Time, and particularly as the destroyer of all things. Nevertheless, Shiva is also associated with creation.

In Hinduism, the universe is thought to regenerate in cycles (every 2,160,000,000 years). Shiva destroys the universe at the end of each cycle which then allows for a new Creation. Shiva is also the great ascetic, abstaining from all forms of indulgence and pleasure, concentrating rather on meditation as a means to find perfect happiness. He is the most important Hindu god for the Shaivism sect, the patron of Yogis and Brahmins, and also the protector of the Vedas, the sacred texts. •

Why lord Shani is black? Shani is the son of Lord Surya (sun god) and Chaya devi. When Shani Dev was in the womb of His mother, Chaya was faithfully serving her husband Surya. When Shani Dev was in the womb of His mother, Chaya was faithfully serving her husband Surya. Due to the scorching heat of Surya, the child in the womb turned black. That is why Shani dev is said to be black in color. ✨Sun misunderstands Shani dev✨

Once Shani was delivered by Chaya devi, Sun god glanced at the new born baby so fondly. When the baby was so black in color like charcoal, sun god was put down and was heavily disappointed. In fact, he doubted that someone else was the father of Shani since Sun god himself was dazzling white in color. This doubt and ill-treatment angered Shani and he cursed his father also to turn black in color. Later Lord Shiva resolves the doubt of Surya and tells him Shani became black in the womb due to Surya’s own heat. Later both Surya and Shani developed a good mutual understanding. ✨Is Shani Dev really cruel?✨ Unlike the popular misunderstandings, Shani is never cruel to people. In fact Shani is considered the Lord of justice. No doubt Shani’s positions in horoscope can bring misery and misfortune. However, the fact remains that Lord Shiva has given Shani the responsibility of rewarding or punishing people as per their good or bad deeds. Therefore Shani is only giving the fruits of people’s actions. In fact when a person repents for his mistakes and engages in good deeds, Shani will easily get mollified. ✨Black color and Shani Dev✨

During Shani puja and while visiting Shani temples, people usually wear black clothes. Shani is black in color and therefore wearing black dress is said to propitiate him. Black color urad dal and black sesame seeds are offered to Shani dev during puja and are also donated to the needy to win Shani’s blessings. Fasting on Shani puja and Saturdays is concluded by eating the rice mixed with urad dal and sesame seeds. Sesame oil is also used for lighting lamps for Shani dev. However, black items, leather and iron are not purchased on Saturdays.

Devotion in one's heart is kindled by the grace of the God, being in the company of other devotees, and reading and listening to glories of God. When devoted, one can experience the complete absence of fears and worries, allowing the devotee to move beyond mundane problems and difficulties. This experience often takes place when chanting the name of Lord and meditating on his form.

Love Shiva and develop a relationship with him. He deeply desires relationship with us and placed a hollow spot inside us that can be filled only by his Love. We want him because he wants us. He knows you inside and out, every bone of your body. He made you, bit by bit, from nothing into something. Understand how great is his love for you, and how much he protects his children. Shivas love, mercy, forgiveness and grace are revealed to us time to time. He wants your love too. No lies or game playing; just honesty and depth, sincere love and devotion. That's how we need to communicate with Mahadev and that's how we can develop a deep love for him. Friends talk things over. So talk everything over with Shiva with no formality. Tell him how you really feel and all about your hopes and dreams and disappointments. Sit down and tell him everything in your heart as if he is right there beside you listening to every word, desire to develop a love for HIM. Recognise how deeply HE loves you, reciprocate that love and delve in deeper with him. Can you resist someone who loves you so sincerely? Consider HIM your best friend. Share everything in your life with him until you realise that yes, he is the one whom you can rely upon. Loving Mahadev is very emotional, so open up and surrender your emotions to him and be ready to "feel" love - both his and yours!!! Love, light & peace ✨👁🕉🔱🐍📿💀🌀⌛️🌙🐚🙏🏻✨ Jai Shiva Shankar ~ Jai Bholenath! 🙏🏻👁🙏🏻

🔱 The trishula symbolism is polyvalent and rich. It is wielded by the god Shiva and is said to have been used to sever the original head of Ganesha. Durga also holds a trishula, as one of her many weapons. 🔱 The three points have various meanings and significance, and, common to Hindu religion, have many stories behind them. They are commonly said to represent various trinities— creation, maintenance and destruction; past, present and future; the three gunas.
🔱 When looked upon as a weapon of Shiva, the trishula is said to destroy the three worlds: the physical world, the world of the forefathers (representing culture drawn from the past) and the world of the mind (representing the processes of sensing and acting).
🔱 The three worlds are supposed to be destroyed by Shiva into a single non-dual plane of existence, that is bliss alone.

“Maha Shivaratri is a Hindu festival celebrated annually in honour of the god Shiva. There is a Shivaratri in every luni-solar month of the Hindu calendar, on the month's 13th night/14th day, but once a year in late winter (February/March, or Phalguna) and before the arrival of Summer, marks Maha Shivaratri which means "the Great Night of Shiva". It is a major festival in Hinduism, this festival is solemn and marks a remembrance of "overcoming darkness and ignorance" in life and the world. It is observed by remembering Shiva and chanting prayers, fasting, doing Yoga, and meditating on ethics and virtues such as self-restraint, honesty, noninjury to others, forgiveness, and the discovery of Shiva.[5] The ardent devotees keep awake all night. Others visit one of the Shiva temples or go on pilgrimage to Jyotirlingams. This is an ancient Hindu festival whose origin date is unknown.” #mahasivaratri #rsharathjois #hindu #hinduism #hindutemple #chanting

"An alternate legend relates that a farmer and his wife occupied a farm in an area and while cultivating the land they struck the Deity. Immediately afterwards blood began to flow from the ground and thus the lost deity of Budhanilkantha was recovered and placed in its rightful position. Budhanilkantha means “Old Blue Throat”, a title which has been given to Lord Shiva. The myth of Shiva’s blue throat relates how the gods churned the ocean of existence and unleashed a poison that threatened to destroy the world. After begging Shiva to save them from their blunder and he obliged by drinking the poison. With his throat burning, the great god flew up to the range north of Kathmandu, struck the mountainside with his Trishul to create a lake, Gosainkunda, and quenched his thirst – resulting information of blue patch on his throat." #history #spiritual #goddess #god #nepalese #culture #nepal #travel #wanderlust #sclupture #hindu #buddhism

According to text Devi Bagwhat Puran, evil demon Maya had such divine power he became too proud, causing problems with deities and sages. Undefeated in war, he made 3 invinsible towns (Tripur) of gold, silver and iron, ruled by himself and 2 brothers- giving him his name TripuraSur. Easily defeating God's King, Indra, in a bloody crusade, Tripurasur looted Angels, power and treasure and ruled Eden. Helpless and powerless, Indra and the other Gods went to beg help from Bramha. Lord Bramha and even Lord Vishnu told the gods they were helpless to the wrath of Tripurasur and told them to beg Lord Shiva for his help, who agree to ruin Tripurasur and his towns after seeing their grief. Lord Shiva ordered a chariot to be made using the earth, the wheels from the sun and moon. Lord Vishnu himself became the arrow of Shiva's bow whilst Lord Bramha drove the chariot. Tripurasur was defeated with one single arrow. The Gods rejoiced that the demon had been defeated and the evil had been demolished. After this, the Gods took rest in the Himalayas where Lord Shiva closed his eyes to meditate. Upon opening his eyes, whether from enlightenment, or the destruction caused by Aaghor, the deadly weapon, tears were shed, sowing the first Rudraksha seeds... #bbeemala #rudraksha #lordshiva #legend

There are many popular legends associated with his broken tusk.

According to Padma Purana, one day sage Parashurama came to visit Shiva. However, Ganesha would not allow Parashurama in, for his father's sleep would be disturbed. When Parashurama insisted he be permitted entry, a fight broke out. In the course of their struggle, Parashurama threw his axe at Ganesha. This axe had been given to Parashurama by Lord Shiva. Recognizing the axe and out of reverence for his father, Ganesha refused to intercept the weapon. He bowed and took its impact on one of his tusks, which broke.
Ganesha, the embodiment of wisdom, is also depicted as a scribe to whom sage Vyasa dictated the Mahabharata. He is accepted as the god of learning and the wisdom. Sage Vyasa, the author of Mahabharata, wanted to dictate the verses of Mahabharata to someone who was capable of writing extremely fast, and without mistakes. Lord Brahma decided that Lord Ganesh was the only person equal to this great task. Vyasa told Ganesha that he would dictate the poem very fast and that Ganesha must take down all the verses without mistakes. Ganesha threw a challenge in return that he would write as fast as Vyasa dictates and that too correctly, but when dictating, Vyasa should not stop till he complete the entire Mahabharata. The dictation began, but in the rush of writing Ganesha's feather pen broke. He broke off a tusk and used it as a pen so that the transcription could proceed without interruption, permitting him to keep his word.! ✨🐘🌀💛🍚🕉❤️📿🎨💜🙏 Om Shri Ekdantaya Namah 💛🐘🕉❤️

Did U know Shiva was from Tibet?
A Chief of a Tibetan tribe who had to migrate to India. This is my small take on SHIVA TRILOGY after a racy nonstop thriller read for the past week.
5000 yrs ago, just like anyone, he was a person of flesh & blood walking this earth, but who rose to become godlike through his sheer incorruptible and powerful character. A living legend of his time and now worshipped as a God of Gods; Shiva was a consummate dancer, fierce tempered, passionate lover, a fearless warrior, a sharp strategist and with a gr8 sense of humour and humility.
I loved each of the Shiva Triology book equally. It very comfortably without holding its grip from the story line makes us realize and points towards the answers to a lot of hidden questions inside us. Like, what is right and wrong? Is evil opposite of good?, Or is it just good turned bad? & many more.
And to all those who think the Shiva Trilogy is based on Hinduism or is made for the believer of Lord Shiva, I say, it is for every person who has a soul and consciousness. And ofcouse a real treat to all book lovers. It has everything in it; War, Love, Poetry, Spirituality, History, Science, Politics, Philosophy and much more. I had a nonstop thriller read. Hard to put it down once in it!

“ #Ardhanarishvara 🕉🔱. #Ardhanarishwara (Sanskrit: अर्धनारीश्वर, Ardhanārīśwara) is a composite androgynous form of the Hindu God #Shiva and his consort #Parvati (also known as Devi, Shakti and Uma in this icon). Ardhanarishvara is depicted as half male and half female, split down the middle. Ardhanarishvara represents the synthesis of masculine and feminine energies of the universe (Purusha and Prakriti) and illustrates how Shakti, the female principle of God, is inseparable from (or the same as, according to some interpretations) Shiva, the male principle of God. The union of these principles is exalted as the root and womb of all creation. Another view is that Ardhanarishvara is a symbol of Shiva's all-pervasive nature. ✨✨This is my second version of Ardhanarishwara artwork. Mother Kali is the most misunderstood of the Hindu goddesses. The Encyclopedia Britannica is grossly mistaken in the following quote, "Major Hindu goddess whose iconography, cult, and mythology commonly associate her with death, sexuality, violence, and, paradoxically in some of her later historical appearances, motherly love." It is partly correct to say Kali is a goddess of death but She brings the death of the ego as the illusory self-centered view of reality. Nowhere in the Hindu stories is She seen killing anything but demons nor is She associated specifically with the process of human dying like the Hindu god Yama (who really is the god of death). It is true that both Kali and Shiva are said to inhabit cremation grounds and devotees often go to these places to meditate. This is not to worship death but rather it is to overcome the I-am-the-body idea by reinforcing the awareness that the body is a temporary condition. Shiva and Kali are said to inhabit these places because it is our attachment to the body that gives rise to the ego. Shiva and Kali grant liberation by removing the illusion of the ego. Thus we are the eternal I AM and not the body.

Of all the forms of Devi, She is the most compassionate because She provides moksha or liberation to Her children. She is the counterpart of Shiva the destroyer. They are the destroyers of unreality. The ego sees Mother Kali and trembles with fear because the ego sees in Her its own eventual demise. A person who is attached to his or her ego will not be receptive to Mother Kali and she will appear in a fearsome form. A mature soul who engages in spiritual practice to remove the illusion of the ego sees Mother Kali as very sweet, affectionate, and overflowing with incomprehensible love for Her children.

Ma Kali wears a garland of skulls and a skirt of dismembered arms because the ego arises out of identification with the body. In truth we are beings of spirit and not flesh. So liberation can only proceed when our attachment to the body ends. Thus the garland and skirt are trophies worn by Her to symbolize having liberated Her children from attachment to the limited body. #motherkali #iam

Dattatreya jayanti also known as datta jayanti is a Hindu holy day commemorating the birthday celebration of the Hindu god Dattatreya(Datta) a combined form of the Hindu male divine Trimurti's(trinity) of #Brahma, #Vishnu and #Shiva. The birth of deity Datta who incarnated on the full moon day(pournima) of the Hindu lunar month of Margshirsh(December/January)is celebrated throughout the country and in particular in Maharashtra.
The one who has been endowed with anubhuti(spiritual experience) of the unmanifest(nirgun) is called Datta. The anubhuti of nirgun essentially means realisation that he is the soul(atma) or he has attained God-realisation.Datta is a paradigmatic sanyasi(monk) and one of the lords of #yoga in #Hinduism. His iconography is typically shown with three heads and six hands, one head each for Brahma,Vishnu and Shiva, and one pair of hand holding the symbolic items associated with each of these Gods:the lowest hand carry rosary(mala) and water pot(kamandalu)of Brahma, middle pair of hand hold hour-glass mini drum(damaru) and trident(trishul) of Shiva and top two hands have Conch(shankh) and spinning wheel(chakra) of Vishnu. He is typically dressed as a simple monk or almost naked situated in a forest or wilderness suggestive of his renunciation of worldly goods and pursuit of a meditative yogi lifestyle. In paintings and some large carvings,he is surrounded by four dogs and a cow, which is a #symbolism for the four Vedas(Rigveda,Yajurveda,Samaveda,Atharvaveda) and Mother Earth that nourishes all living beings.
Dattatreya was the son of the sage Atri and his wife Anasuya.Anasūûyāâ, the wife of Sage Atri, was well known for Her chastity (pativratāâ). As a result, she had acquired tremendous power, due to which Deity Indra and other deities felt threatened. #Saraswati, #Lakshmi and #Parvati, the goddess trinity (Tridevi) and consorts of the male trinity, became jealous. They deputed their husbands to test her virtuousness. So, they went to Deity Brahmāâ, Shri Vishnu and Deity Mahesh (Shiva) and told Their agony. The #trinity of Deities decided to test Anasuya’s chastity.

Ganesha is the formless divinity, encapsulated in a magnificent form, for the benefit of the devotee. As per Hindu mythology he is the son of #LORDSHIVA and goddess #parvati
The meaning of Ganesh.
Gan means group. The universe is a group of atoms and different energies. This universe would be in chaos if there was no supreme law governing these diverse group of entities.
The lord of all these groups of atoms and energies is Ganesha.
He is the supreme consciousness that pervades all and brings order in this universe.
The essence of Lord Ganesha.
The essence of Lord Ganesha is brought out beautifully by #adishankara
Though Ganesha is worshipped as the #elephantheadedgod ,the Swaroop(the form) is just to bring out the parabrahmaroopa(the formless).
He is 'Ajam Nirvikalpa Niraakaaramekam'. This means Ganesha is #Ajam (unborn),he is #nirvikalpa(attribute less), he is #niraakaaramekam(formless) and he symbolises the consciousness which is omnipresent.
Ganesha is the same energy which is the reason for this universe. It is the energy from which everything manifests and into which everything will dissolve.
The story of Ganesha's birth.
We are all familiar with the story of how Ganesha became the elephant-headed God.Parvati became dirty when she was celebrating with Shiva. When she realised this, she removed the dirt from her body and created a boy out of it.She then asked him to keep guard while she bathed.
When Shiva returned, the boy did not recognise him and obstructed his passage. So Shiva chopped off the boy's head and entered.Parvati was shocked when she saw this. She explained to Shiva that the boy was their son and pleaded to Shiva to save him at all costs.
Shiva then instructed his helpers to go and get the head of someone who was sleeping with their head pointing to the north. The helpers then got the head of a elephant, which Shiva affixed to the boys torso and Ganesha was born.

The Swasthani brata katha festival is a month-long festival dedicated to God Madhav Narayan and Goddess Swasthani. The festival revolves around the Swasthani, a text with stories from the Puranic tradition. The book has creation myths, stories about Parvati’s devotion to Shiva, and about the marriage of a girl-child, Goma Brahmani, to Shiva disguised as an ageing man. The devotees recite one chapter daily from the 31-chapter sacred book as they fast for the well-being of their family.
