sesame, ginger and garlic sautéed greens - EATING UPDATE 🏼 as i mentioned in my story for the next 30 days i am going fully raw (the exception im allowing is things like tamari, coconut aminos and nutritional yeast flakes to keep myself sane and make this achievable for me) - now i am in no way ... sesame, ginger and garlic sautéed greens 💚🌱 - EATING UPDATE 👉🏼 as i mentioned in my story for the next 30 days i am going fully raw (the exception im allowing is things like tamari, coconut aminos and nutritional yeast flakes to keep myself sane and make this achievable for me) - now i am in no way saying eating fully raw is the optimal diet whatsoever, cooked foods played a HUGE role in our evolution and brain development BUT for me personally eating raw feels bloody unbelievable when i do it right, track what im eating carefully and make sure im getting enough calories in🍊🍒🍌 unfortunately where i am currently in life and on my health journey i have a very sensitive stomach and physical response to the foods i eat - dairy, gluten, sodium and meat being the biggest culprits, with these foods i instantly feel extreme lethargy, bloating, puffiness and exhaustion - the best way to describe it is almost like the feeling of a hangover, which fricken sucks when you just want to eat certain foods and feel normal - even some vegan gluten free foods like pastas, some rice and grains and certain cruciferous vegetables can make me feel like this also 😒 i think im probably a lot more in tune with my body than some of the general population and to them this feeling may be their normal BUT having eaten raw vegan (and many other ways of eating) before i know how bloody incredible it makes me feel - i sleep like a baby, wake up naturally early feeling refreshed, have SUSTAINED energy all day, have more energy to DO MORE, spend less time cooking and prepping therefore also have time to do more, my bloating decreases dramatically and i dont feel puffy, my allergies improve drastically as does my asthma and so much more✨ this is NOT me telling everyone to go eat raw food as it doesnt work for everyone (just a heads up NO single diet works for everyone, we are all so unique in our compositions and what makes us thrive and feel our best) i just wanted to fill you guys in on what im going to be doing for the next 30 days to keep myself accountable and so i can update you guys as i go along - i also just want to feel amazing again and go back to what i know works for ME🌱

Usually it’s a build your own kind of dish whet you take one betel leaf and fill it with peanut, dried shrimp, toasted coconut, shallot, ginger, chili, lime, and then top it off with a sauce or dip. It’s super versatile - along with tonnes of veggies, sometimes I put quinoa or brown rice, pasta, lentils, mung beans or other beans, nuts, pumpkin seeds... ANYTHING goes in this baby!! The more veggies the better too. Lots of root and vine veggies (carrot, parsnip, pumpkin, squash, potato etc) go well because it’s seasonal during winter. I also looove celery, cauliflower, kale, capsicum etc. You can put any herbs and spices in too, either fresh or dried. My faves are rosemary, basil, parsley, cumin, and always loaaads of turmeric. Brown lentils work best but if you’d prefer straight veggie soup you can do that too!! The recipe: basically any ingredient you want, fry with olive oil so all veggies are covered and starts to smell aromatic, + 1.5 veggie stock cubes, 1 can diced toms and 3 cups of water PER 4 SERVES. + as much chilli, garlic, lemon juice and ginger as you want, and salt and pepper. Simmer this baby for at least an hour, season and stir as you go🔥🌿🍋🍅🍲🌶 BEST SOUP EVER!!!! Seriously so versatile and every single time it’s delicious and nourishing. In the study, the group that had a single serving of curry with rice (cooked with a set of curry spices - see the list below) showed healthy blood flow in their blood vessels after the meal 👍. Whereas the control group (that ate the same meal but without the curry spices) experienced decreased blood flow 👎.⠀

The researchers concluded that the spices in curry prevented the inner lining of the blood vessels from contracting, possibly through their antioxidant activity and keeping the blood sugars levels from spiking.⠀

It is this continuous contraction of the blood vessels experienced often after unhealthy meals (called “endothelial function”) that may over time lead to the “hardening of the arteries” (atherosclerosis) 😣.⠀

The study concluded: “Curry consumption ameliorates postprandial endothelial dysfunction and may be beneficial for preventing cardiovascular events. Lifestyle-related diseases such as atherosclerosis and diabetes mellitus have become serious health problems in the modern world. Here’s my first attempt at a meal prep day! I also made some suppers for the week, but I didn’t take pics of them because they just looked like goop in Ziploc freezer bags (I assume they will be delicious though). These are my lunch and breakfast preps! I did burrito bowls (black beans + chipotle corn + shredded cheese + white rice + lime juice + cilantro with salsa and single servings of guac). These ones I’ll just warm through in the microwave and add the salsa and guac for a quick, tasty, meatless lunch.
I also made breakfast bowls (sliced tomatoes + baby spinach + goat cheese). How I prepare it for breakfast: fry an egg in a pan, and when it’s essentially done, I add the spinach and goat cheese to pan and place the lid over it for just long enough so the spinach gets nice and wilty. Then I put the spinach and eggs over the tomato and top it with sriracha and ginger soy sauce. The breakfast bowls have an easy vegan modifier: prepare one of your favorite egg substitutes per their instructions, and add half a diced avocado in place of the goat cheese.
This meal prep should hopefully be one of the first of many of a similar fashion as I have decided to document my lifestyle changes as I attempt to pull myself out of pretty pervasive depression. It is my hope that my documenting it, it well me hold myself accountable to the choices I want to make, and also, that it might help some of you (or even just one of you a little tiny bit). So anyway, here’s to a new adventure.

We’ve been living in our new house now for almost 4 weeks! It’s been insane!! Emotional, scary, overwhelming. And then suddenly everything became calm, safe, rejuvenating and amazing. Moving to the suburbs and a house is probably the biggest adjustment I’ve ever gone through. Even more than having a baby! Having a baby just felt like second nature to me. But hiding in my room at night, petrified of dark windows and closed doors is not 😳 I still have 5 boxes to unpack. I’m too scared to do it at night when Tal is at work and I’m home alone.
Anyway, I have to say, I feel so happy. This is our new life and new home. And I feel so lucky.
Between getting things in order, the summer heat, and my kids home every day since camp ended, I’ve just been cooking some light meals. I serve salad every single night for dinner as a first course and my boys really love it. It was something my mom did for us growing up and I always planned on continuing that healthy tradition.
This salad is a mix of romain lettuce, red cabbage, and baby kale, scallions, sliced almonds, pan seared tofu, shiitake mushrooms and some other exotic ones, scallion, sugar snap peas, shallots and ginger miso dressing. Salads are easy to make. The last couple of weeks have been logistically challenging - first school holidays as a single working mum - and I found I had no time to food prep. On the go non-stop, I was grabbing convenience food, eating on the run and quite frankly feeling a bit bleurgh. I made sure I took time yesterday (last day of the school holidays) to get my shit together... raw veggies chopped, chicken marinated and grilled, tuna mix made up, sweet potato and capsicum roasted, quinoa soaked and cooked, nuts & seeds toasted and dressing (lemon, ginger and EVOO) mixed and bottled.
So this week, when I’m hungry, instead of grabbing a packet of chips or making do with toast and PB for lunch, I can throw together a super yum and super healthy salad in about 30 seconds. Plus, I feel organised AF and like my life is in control again 👊🏻👊🏻👊🏻 My meals might not be quite as fancypants delish as this organic wholefoods feast from fave @rubylane_manly (at the beginning of the hols with the children 😍) but it’s a hell of a lot better than what I’ve been eating the last couple of weeks. Woop woop!
The only way to make sure you stick to a healthy eating plan is to food prep. So if you’re feeling a bit crappy and like you’re making some bad food decisions, set aside some time to get loads of bits ‘n pieces ready at the weekend and you’ll be apples all week X

A Peasant Amongst Royalty
IT'S A GET TO KNOW ME POST!

As most of you know, I have created my Mermaid Ginger, The Koi Queen, character 5 years ago with a very royal-like attitude in my style and designs.
Though I may be "The Koi Queen", I am only Queen of my tiny little Koi Pond.
In human life, this is what I look like almost every single day.
Yes... I look like a peasant pirate.
I know.
This is the real me.
Simple.
I wear this outfit a lot and you'll rarely see me in much else unless an occasion to dress up or dress down for working on projects.
When I toured the cities of France and Belgium, I felt immersed in my element.
I felt at home.
I don't want to live in a modern world.
I'm much more appreciative of the tiny little things than my extravagant social media and career life make me out to be.
I enjoy the extraordinary and the extravagantly simple in ways I feel are lost to modern society.
My mermaid character is the extraordinary and my peasant pirate life is the extravagantly simple.
The two sides of the spectrum these characters lay upon teetertotters a little but if you know me well, you know I like to have outlandish amounts of fun and can make a good time out of the mundane.
Happiness to me is living in the moment with sights on soon completed achievements.
As long as I'm moving forward or planning the next step productively, I'm one happy fish.

This is kale sautéed in coconut oil with hemp hearts, nutritional yeast, sea salt, turmeric, ginger, black pepper and red pepper flakes. Sometimes I add shredded cabbage and carrots to the mix. Sometimes I leave out the hemp and serve it alongside a BBQ’d protein instead. Sure, it’s kinda ... This is kale sautéed in coconut oil with hemp hearts, nutritional yeast, sea salt, turmeric, ginger, black pepper and red pepper flakes. Sometimes I add shredded cabbage and carrots to the mix. Sometimes I leave out the hemp and serve it alongside a BBQ’d protein instead. Sure, it’s kinda a boring photo. But it’s REAL (more on this in a second). This is my go-to very quick lunch or dinner. It’s very nutrient dense thanks to the kale, turmeric and ginger, rich in healthy fats thanks to the hemp and coconut oil, and even contains 15g + protein (I use at least 3 Tbsp hemp, plus kale and nut yeast offer some protein). I also LOVE it so much I could probably eat it every single day - the cheesy taste from the nutritional yeast is so tasty, and the spices add the perfect kick.

I like pretty pictures and sometimes I take time to really stage my photos. I’ve even made food in the past, pictured it, and then thrown it away because it was just for looks. There are so many decadent sweets and treats (including some smoothies and smoothie bowls out there!) I’ve come across on IG that are just for looks - in actuality nobody can eat that stuff (more than once in a blue moon) while staying healthy, lean, strong and fast. Other pictures, while filled with good healthy food, are so elaborate I can’t imagine taking the time to prep all the pieces. So my pictures might not be truly ‘instagram worthy’ but I promise you’ll only see pics of nutrient dense food that is practical and simple to make! At the end of the day you see the stuff me (or my hubby) actually eat ourselves - and we’re kinda boring / simple, haha - but I think I’m finally cool with that!

SERVES: 20 Wings
PREP: 8 Mins
COOK: 30-35 Mins

INGREDIENTS
--
20 chicken wings
4 spring onions, finely sliced
1 inch cube fresh ginger, peeled and grated
1 red chilli, seeded and finely chopped
1-2 garlic cloves, peeled and finely chopped
4 tbsp honey
2 tbsp tamari
coriander to garnish
METHOD
--
01. Mix all of the ingredients (except the chicken wings) in a large baking dish before adding the wings to the marinade and coating completely.

02. Cling film the wings and leave to marinate for 12-24 hours.

03. Preheat the oven to 250°C/480°F/Gas Mark 9.

04. Ensuring the wings are in a single layer and all the marinade is coating the wings. Then place them in the oven and cook on a high heat for 15 minutes or until they go nice and golden and the skin a little crispy. Then turn the oven down to 180°C for a further 15 minutes or until cooked through. Stir occasionally.

05. Remember, cooking times may vary depending on your oven.

06. Top with some chopped spring onion, chopped fresh chillies and fresh coriander and serve.

Green Fish Stew

Ingredients
- 1 cup cilantro leaves and stems
- 1 cup basil leaves
- 1/4 mint leaves
- 2 small serrano chilis
- 1 tbs ginger, peeled
- 4-inch length lemongrass, chopped
- 2 garlic cloves, peeled
- 1/2 grated coconut, unsweetened
- 2 tsp fish sauce
- 2 tsp brown sugar
- 2 tbs coconut oil
- 2 cups chicken or vegetable broth
- 1 1/2 pounds firm white fleshed fish, like black cod or halibut
- 3 scallions, thinly sliced
- 1/2 tsp salt
- 1/4 tsp pepper
- lime wedges

Directions
1. Place cilantro, basil, mint, chilis, ginger, lemongrass, garlic, coconut, fish sauce, sugar, coconut oil into the Prep & Cook bowl fitted with the ultrablade knife. 
2. Mix at speed 12 for 30 seconds.
3. Scrape down the sides of the bowl and mix at speed 12 for another 30 seconds, while slowly feeding the chicken broth into the bowl.
4. Scrape down the sides again
5. Line the steam basket with parchment paper and place fish into the basket and season with salt and pepper
6. Place the basket in the Prep & Cook bowl and launch the P1 steam program for 15 minutes
7. At the end of the program, remove the steam basket
8. Ladle the green soup into bowls and place fish on top
9. Garnish with scallions, cilantro, chilis and lime wedges
10. Enjoy!

* 1 package gyoza wrappers
* 1 Tbsp vegetable oil
* ¼ cup water * 1 tsp sesame oil

Filling:
* ¾ lb ground pork (340 g)
* 2-3 leaves cabbage (140 g)
* 2 green onion/scallion (15 g)
* 2 shiitake mushrooms
* 1 clove garlic (minced)
* 1 inch fresh ginger (2.5 cm)
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
Seasonings:
* 1 tsp sake
* 1 tsp sesame oil
* 1 tsp soy sauce
* ¼ tsp Kosher salt
* Freshly ground black pepper
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
Dipping Sauce:
* 1 Tbsp rice vinegar
* 1 Tbsp soy sauce
* ⅛ tsp la-yu (Japanese chili oil) (optional)

INSTRUCTIONS
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
1. Cut cabbage, green onions and shiitake mushrooms into small pieces.
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
2. Combine the ground meat, cabbage, green onion, shiitake mushrooms, minced garlic, grated ginger, and the seasonings and knead the mixture with hand until it becomes sticky.
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
3. Put a wrapper on your hand and put a small amount of filling in the center of the wrapper. Dip one finger in water and draw a circle around the outer 1/4” of the wrapper with your wet finger until it’s wet all around.
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
4. Fold the gyoza (See the video on my Gyoza recipe post).
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
5. Heat the oil in a frying pan over medium high heat. When the pan is hot, place the gyoza in a single layer, flat side down.
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
6. When the bottom of the gyoza turns golden brown, add ¼ cup of water to the pan. Immediately cover with a lid and steam the gyoza for about 3 minutes or until most of the water evaporates.
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
7. Remove the lid to evaporate any remaining water. Add 1 tsp sesame oil around the frying pan. Cook uncovered until the gyoza is nice and crisp on the bottom.

8. Transfer to a plate and serve with dipping sauce (combine the ingredients in a small plate and mix all together).

| SWEET POTATO SUSHI |
✨To make the crunchy #sweetpotato filling you will need:
1/4 cup #almondmeal
1/4 cup #tapiocaflour
1/2 cup water
1 sweet potato
1/2 cup #lupin flakes
1/2 tsp garlic powder
1/2 tsp onion powder
1/2 tsp ground coriander
1 tsp ground #ginger
Pinch of sea salt ✨You will also need:
Nori sushi seaweed
1 cucumber
A few shreds of red cabbage
1/2 #avocado
2 cups slightly overcooked black/brown rice ✨Dipping sauce:
2 tbsp #tamari
2 tbsp @jimalie_coconut_products #Coconutaminos
A slash of sesame oil
1 inch cube grated ginger
Pinch of chilli flakes and sesame seeds
Juice of 1/2 a lime
Method:
Preheat oven to 200C. Make a thin batter with the almond meal, tapioca flour and water by whisking everything together. Allow to sit while you chop up your sweet potato into small bite sized chunks. Next prepare your coating by mixing the lupin flakes with all the spices and salt. Dip the potato pieces into the batter, roll in the lupin mix to create a crust, then place on a lined baking tray. Drizzle with coconut oil and bake until golden and crunchy, approx 30 mins. While they are cooking prepare your rice and chop up your veg. Then make the dipping sauce by mixing all ingredients together. Once potato is cooked and rice is cooled, add a splash of rice vinegar (optional) to rice, and assemble your sushi. Using a sushi mat (available at any supermarket) place your nori on top rough side up. Press rice into it in a flat even layer avoiding a 1 inch strip at the top. Place crunchy potato in a single row horizontally down the middle, add your sliced avo/cucumber or carrot and a few shreds of red cabbage or anything you like in a neat line. Wet the strip at the top with water, then gently roll sushi making sure everything is tightly packed inside. The wet strip will seal the roll. Slice or eat as a hand roll with tamari or my dipping sauce. Everything except the fresh veg and nori is available @scoopwholefoods.

Kombucha came along when we started to cater our friends evening events, where smoothies wouldn't be so much of a hit... When we had leftover booch, we created a smoothie at the markets called the "Golden Yogi" which featured ginger, turmeric, lemon and ginger, with a base of original OM Kombucha... It wasn't long before people just wanted to buy this mysterious glowing flip-top Kombucha bottle... In 2014 we got serious and chose a bottle, designed a label, put the booch in our 4 favorite stores/cafes, and the rest is history.

2 tablespoons cooking oil divided

3 eggplant small, cut into long strips

5 cloves garlic finely minced

1 red chile pepper finely minced (I left this out because Nana can't handle too spicy)

1/2 inch fresh ginger peeled and finely minced

1 green onion chopped

1 tablespoon soy sauce + oyster sauce

1 tablespoon white vinegar

1/4 teaspoon sugar
*** I added about 1 cup sliced fresh mushrooms to this to make it heartier and it was delicious.
Instructions

In a wok or saucepan over high heat, add 1 tablespoon of the cooking oil and swirl to coat wok. When wok is hot, add eggplant in a single layer. Cook 2 minutes and flip over each piece so they cook evenly. Cook another 2-3 minutes, flipping occasionally.The egg plant should have changed in color, the skin wrinkled and the flesh soft.

Push eggplant aside in wok and add 1 tablespoon cooking oil. Add garlic, red chile peppers, ginger and green onion. Stir these aromatics until they become fragrant. Combine aromatics with eggplant and stir fry for one minute. Add soy sauce, black vinegar and sugar and stir to combine all. Serve with cooked rice 🍚! Let me know if you try this 😊😘😘😘. These two pictures stood out for me, as they show the sibling bond between Cedar and Esmé and are really representative of the life we lead.
The first photo was taken in June 2014, soon after Cedar first cut his wavy ginger locks and began the transformation from boy to man before our eyes. Esmé was a rascally, vibrant, leather-footed little 8 year old who thought her brother walked on air.
Some things change, and some stay the same... The second shot was taken a couple months earlier, (and ironically, exactly 4 years ago to the day) on April 6, 2014 after a spring snow storm. My dad had recently given Cedar his old single-shot .22 Winchester from his own youth, and big brother was running little sister through the paces of gun safety, operation and accuracy.
These days we’re all missing that ginger haired big brother and wondering how his first week of boot camp went, if his Drill Instructor is as intimidating as we imagine him to be (probably, yes😳) and when we’ll receive the first letter home from our Marine in training.... And now I’m just sitting here by the warm hearth, listening to a couple baby chicks rustle about in their shoe box, thinking about my kids and how fast they’ve grown, dreaming about our new little lass to come and keeping the home fires burning while the spring rains melt the last of the snow in the secrecy of night.

I used to listen (and listen and listen) to all the recorded bedroom sets floating around the endz on cassette tapes back then. My cousin Clayton would get them from Petchy and he would let me borrow them for a week before taking them back. M.A.D. Crew: Monkee, Alley and Dee. Dee was a legend in the endz way before becoming a legend to the world. I was that kid that knew all of Dee’s lyrics - on many occasions I’ve reminded him of bars even he has since forgotten. The kid that would stand still for an hour and a half holding the hi-fi radio aerial in statue position to catch the whole set clean. The kid that recorded my own tapes in our bedroom with my bro deejaying and me impersonating Dee. It would go something like... “Lyrically flexin’ like a muscle man inna the gym, weightlifting, I’m lyrically fat but physically thin, Kano gonna ride the riddim.” Or whatever my name was at the time. I never got as far as the hi-top. But that kid did one day get to meet his idol - convertible Golf GTI may I add - and, yes, I was fucking star-struck.
After starting to write my own lyrics and making a little name for myself, I eventually had the opportunity to go back-to-back with the big man himself - Ginger’s yard, E6. Then, even later down the line, we somehow ended up in a crew together (NASTY Crew). I’ve skipped a lot, but just know that life is mad. Energy is real.
To this day, when I see Double I’m still that little kid. Circumstances change but the respect remains. To me, he is the farda. And that’s that. I am a part of the generation that he has inspired so much and I can’t thank him enough for being the single biggest inspiration in my musical career.
I hear new grime emcees spit today and whether conscious or not, I often hear a tasteful amount of D Double E mixed in there. That’s legacy.
A one of one. A national treasure. Thank you and congratulations.

• Avoid triggers: common food triggers are fried onions, fried garlic, cruciferous vegetables, chicken, eggs. Also cologne, perfume & scented body products.
• B6: a well-researched nutrient that can help ease nausea in pregnancy. Try 200 mg/day.
• Magnesium: helps relax muscles & can calm an overactive gag reflex that gets triggered when nauseas.
• Bone broth: soothing, nutrient dense, easily digested & often quickly calms the stomach.
• Keep blood sugar stable: don’t go too long without eating. Include protein & healthy fats in each meal and snack. (Trade ginger ale & saltines for ginger tea & nuts!)
• Citrus: diffuse citrus essential oils, smell a fresh cut lemon, or squeeze lemon juice into water.

Don’t judge, hah! These noodles will fulfill all those takeout cravings - just pick your favorite protein and throw it on top!

Butternut Squash Sesame Noodles

✨  Ingredients ✨
2 Tbsp coconut oil
1 package butternut squash, zucchini, or sweet potato noodles
1 lb shrimp, peeled
SAUCE:
2 Tbsp sesame oil
¼ c coconut aminos
3 Tbsp tahini
2 Tbsp unsweetened sunbutter
2 Tbsp chili garlic paste or sriracha
1 Tbsp minced ginger
1 Tbsp minced garlic
2 Tbsp room temperature water
For serving
Chopped scallions
Sesame seeds

✨Directions✨
1.MAKE the sauce: combine the sesame oil, coconut aminos, tahini, sunbutter, honey, ginger, garlic and chili paste in a small bowl.
2. ADD the water, one tablespoon at a time, until the sauce reaches your desired consistency. (Less water if you want it thicker, more water if you want it thinner!)
3. HEAT a large saucepan with 2 Tbsp coconut oil. Once the pan is hot, add the shrimp in a single layer. Cook for about 2 minutes per side, until the shrimp are pink and cooked through.
4. ADD the noodles to the pan and cook for about 5 minutes, until soft but not mushy (to about ‘al dente’). Stir in the sauce and shrimp.
5. SERVE warm with chopped scallions and sesame seeds.

Ingredients:
- 1 T ghee
- 1 clove garlic, finely chopped
- 2 T onion, chopped
- half a carrot, sliced
- 1/4 C red bell pepper
- 1/4 C roasted, diced sweet potato
- 3-4 oz cooked chicken
- 1/2 C bone broth
- 1/4 C coconut milk
- 1/4 t curry powder
- 1/4 t ground turmeric
- 1 t fresh ginger, grated
- salt & pepper, to taste
- 1 C cooked cauliflower rice
- 1 pinch red pepper flake
- sprinkle of chopped cilantro
- sprinkle of pumpkin seeds
- pinch red pepper flake (optional)
- squeeze of a lime wedge

Instructions:
1. Heat your skillet over medium heat and begin melting your ghee.
2. Brown the garlic and onion in ghee.
3. Add carrot coins and red bell pepper, cooking for a few minutes until slightly softened.
4. Add cooked sweet potato, chicken, chicken broth, and coconut milk. Stir until combined.
5. Sprinkle in spices and ginger; stir or whisk until dissolved and evenly distributed. Taste and season with salt and pepper as desired.
6. Increase heat to high until mixture starts to boil, then bring down a simmer. Simmer for 10-15 minutes, or until curry mix reaches your desired thickness.
8. Plate the curry stew over your cauliflower rice, garnishing with cilantro, pumpkin seeds, red pepper flake, and a squeeze of fresh lime.

By *mindfully* enjoying bountiful, veggie heavy meals, you’ll activating the stretch receptors in your stomach that tell your brain that you’re full… And you’ll be paying enough attention to really notice.

Ingredients:
- 1 T avocado oil
- 1 clove garlic, finely chopped
- 1 t fresh ginger, grated
- 3/4 C broccoli florets
- all of julienned carrots
- half of diced red bell pepper
- half of sliced mushrooms
- 1 C cooked cauliflower rice
- 3-4 oz cooked chicken
- 2 T coconut aminos
- salt, to taste
- 1 green onion, sliced

Instructions:
1. Heat your avocado oil in a medium skillet over medium heat.
2. Add your garlic and ginger to hot pan, cooking until slightly browned.
3. Toss in broccoli and carrots, cooking for a few minutes until broccoli has become a vibrant green color.
4. Add in red bell pepper and mushrooms, stir frying until slightly softened.
5. Add in cauliflower rice and chicken, tossing to evenly distribute ingredients.
6. Season with coconut aminos and salt, continue stirring until everything is heated through.
7. Plate, garnish with chopped green onion, and enjoy!

This particular bottle is number 22 of 294 and is bottled at 55%. The nose is quite compact, as is often the case with ‘crafted’ Yamazaki's, but with very distinct notes of ginger and soft curry added to a rather waxy and oily character.
The Mouth (neat): Hugely concentrated but not thick, which is quite an achievement. Loads of spices, crystallized oranges, ginger, cardamom and pepper. A lot of wood but it’s great wood. With water: rounder of course, and more ‘oriental’ as well. Turkish delights, lychees, like we found in other versions; orange squash, mint flavoured tea. #japanesewhisky

Wow it’s already been nearly a week since I ran my marathon (per @runfastersarah) but before I forget, for anyone interested, thought I might share my fueling strategies. Because while my training may not have been ideal (for a fast marathon that is), I know my nutrition really helped me get the amazing result I was blessed with last Saturday💙

1️⃣ fat-loading: I’ve been eating in an adapted LCHF manner consistently for over 4 months now - a typical fat-load protocol calls for 10 days (which works great - see link in profile for more info on fat-loading). While I didn’t do a hard core fat-load, I strongly believe my fat-adapted body is so much more metabolically efficient now, that it was in part a large reason I did not bonk at all.

2️⃣ carb loading: I carb loaded all day Friday (a one-day carb load) as follows - huge bowl of oatmeal and blueberries for breakfast, @barnana cacao snacks (hahahaha, found them at @wholefoods in Bellingham and couldn’t resist, so yes this was a diversion from my plan), hearty rice salad made with white rice (no chicken or chickpeas) for lunch with an iced matcha. Then an oat bar and a strawberry smoothie snack. More hearty rice salad for dinner with BEETS!! These beets - I ate an entire package of the honey ginger @lovebeets (beets are a scientifically proven ergogenic aid!!). And I had a ginger kombucha, followed by maybe a cup of fresh blueberries. And finally a banana blueberry muffin snack before bed.

3️⃣ breakfast the morning of: I woke up 3 hours pre-race to ensure enough time for complete digestion. I ate a banana blueberry muffin and an oat bar with green tea. Exactly 45 minutes pre-race I had a triple shot espresso (caffeine is the strongest ergogenic aid at our disposal).

4️⃣ fueling during: I drank water from every single water station and consumed all 4 of my @huma gels I’d brought, all were caffeinated but I saved the mocha (caffeine x2) for the latter half.

You can and should do both!
Eating fruits and veggies can be very filling, which is good. However, it can also make it a bit tougher to really flood your body with nutrients.
Can you sit and eat one whole bunch of kale, a few stalks of celery, some parsley, and a nub of ginger? Yes! Yes you can! But could you do this multiple times a day? Yes! Yes you can! But would you want to? And would you get tired of it? Well, that depends on who you are and what you like. But still, doing this is not going to give you access to all the nutrients that are in these products.

Yea, if you're allergic to pinapple, then this drink will kill you, if you are not, then you will most likely order one every single time you visit @20Hundra5 (like I've done). It's like the Tom Hanks among cocktails, likability turned up to 11, but I really should single out the pinapple gin in there, the savoury qualities of it is quite spectacular.

½ Pineapple
Roast the pineapple flesh in an oven for about an hour, so that it has gotten a lot of color. Put the roasted flesh, gin and the pineapple peel (that was not roasted) into a jar. Put the jar into an 50-55°C owen and let infuse overnight. Strain away the pineapple, bottle and refrigerate.

300 ml Simple syrup
4 egg whites
20 ml Pineapple essence
Mix the ingredients and put them in an cream siphon. Use 2 charges and shake between each charge.

A heart healthy diet should include whole grains, fresh fruits and vegetables, low fat dairy, lean protein and legumes, and should limit fat, saturated fat, cholesterol and sodium. This recipe provides at least 1g soluble fiber per serving. Experts recommend that to maintain good health, no more than 10% of your calories should come from saturated fat, and no more than 20-35% of daily calories should come from total fat. This recipe has 8g of total fat.

Ingredients:
1/2 cup Quaker Old Fashioned Oats
3/4 cup unsweetened plant milk
1/2 cup grated carrots
2 teaspoons chopped pecans
1 teaspoon raisins
1 teaspoon vanilla extract
1/2 teaspoon cinnamon
1/4 teaspoon ground ginger
2 tablespoons non-fat Greek yogurt
1 teaspoon pure maple syrup

In a single serve bowl or mug, mix Quaker oats, plant milk, carrots, pecans, raisins, vanilla, cinnamon and ginger. Microwave for 90 seconds and stir. In a separate small bowl, mix together yogurt and maple syrup. Drizzle on oatmeal.

Hoshigaki custard
Brown butter bay scallops
Pomegranates

Hoshigaki custard;

1 cup hoshigaki puree
2 quarts cream
8egg yolks
1 cup Grand Marnier
Nob of fresh ginger (20g)
1 vanilla bean

In a pot heat cream to a near boil whisk in hoshigaki puree, Grand Marnier and chopped ginger. Bring the pot off of the heat and add a split vanilla bean. Seep for 20 minutes. Re heat the cream, bring to a boil and puree. Remove the vanilla bean before adding to the blender. Puree smooth and pass thought a fine mesh strainer into a pot. Keep the puree at a low temp. Remove 25% of the puree and add it back into the blender. Gradually increase the speed of the blender until it reaches full. One by one add the egg yolks. Once all the yolks are added slowly whisk back into the 75% that is in the pot. Whisk for 20 minutes until the eggs are cooked and the custard starts to thicken. Pour 60 gs of puree into a bowl tap the bottom to release air bubbles. Cook in a water bath for 45 minutes @ 325 with a low fan. Cool the custards. To serve; reeat in 375 oven for 5 minutes from cold, 3 minutes from room temperature.

custard is served warm.

On Friday it happened I had a rather long training run (70km/44mi) and so of course I ate all the carb-rich foods!! And some other stuff too • Curious? Items consumed within the 11hr period immediately before and during this long run:

🔹 my last two #eat2run oat bars (so I had to make more yesterday since I’d used my stash up - these Cinnamon Ginger Oat Bars [45g carb per bar] are an updated version of my former ones, specifically designed to be great for even very sensitive GI systems🙌)
🔹 1 #eat2run banana muffin
🔹 1 entire bag of @buderimginger Naked Ginger uncrystalized sweetened ginger (160g carb total), which is the one thing I can always stomach no matter how long I’m out running!! (I find them at @wholefoodsbc)
🔹 1 single serving packet of nut butter (wanted more but only had one - I dip the ginger into the nut butter😋😋😋)
🔹 triple shot espresso from @starbucks at 30km in!!!
🔹1 chocolate @humagel with caffeine (thought I’d need more, so brought more... but only used one🤷‍♀️)
🔹1 @realmeatbar (hey don’t knock it until you try it😂😂 I’ve found jerky or similar really helps with satiation on runs that last all day or longer - that said of course they won’t suit everyone)
🔹~4-5 litres of water
🔹 6 @therealsaltstick chewable tablets (which unfortunately made me feel immediately nauseous after taking a bunch at 60km in, probably cause I shoved too many in all at once)

And then when I got home I drank ALL THE TART CHERRY juice 🍒🍒🍒🍒 and had an Epson salt bath... And boom, I was a bit stiff but all good the following day (but don’t worry I still took a rest day anyway), kinda in amazement but I’ll happily take it! 🤗🙌

Yes, it’s unconventional (we are all so different!) - what one runner thrives off of, another will not. For example, my hubby (who’s very metabolically efficient, and naturally sits at 4% body fat complete with six-pack abs) eats granola for breakfast every single day. This spiced chocolate paleo latte would not work for him one bit. However, personally, I have never felt stronger or more alive🤗

Some of my clients thrive on LCHF (or even keto😱) while others absolutely need the more traditional high carb fare... And many fall anywhere between the two - literally no one lands on the same point. Breakfast looks different for everyone. It’s fascinating!

Wondering what’s in my cup? Ok, I’ll tell you... But please note - these measurements and ingredients are suited exactly to my current needs as well as to fit my caloric and macro requirements within the rest of my daily menu as a fat-adapted runner👇🏼

🔹2 cups hot water
🔹2 Tbsp raw cacao powder
🔹2 Tbsp kiwi pure grass fed butter
🔹1 Tbsp @bulletproof Brain Octane
🔹1 Tbsp coconut oil
🔹1 scoop @kahanutrition whey isolate
🔹1 Tbsp @organikahealth collagen
🔹1/2 tsp @mymatchalife matcha powder
🔹1/2-1 tsp ginger (or fresh ginger)
🔹1/2 tsp maple syrup

I can’t even describe to you how excited I am for it each morning!!! Landing on my perfect breakfast has been invaluable. But again, I cannot stress enough how determining what’s best for oneself means taking the time to determine current state of digestive and gut health, hormonal health and metabolic health, along with any current health or injury concerns AND taking performance goals into consideration... Only then can best food choices be landed on.

One last thing - just to clarify - this is my breakfast every single day EXCEPT before a race or before a super duper long run!! Of course then I’m eating all the carbs (with a bit of fat and protein too)😋

This 2/12/18 release has 8 components, with everything from bourbon to Curacao-finished rye to single malt. It's 59.65% ABV, and it's really special. Nose is woody & pleasantly musty at first. Then ground ginger, candied grapefruit, mandarin peel, Spanish peanuts. Palate is brighter than expected, with baking cocoa, espresso, cane sugar, and more ginger. Molasses & birch bark on the finish. Bewitching.

Next is Bourbon Batch 15, a blend of 9.5-11 year old bourbons from TN & KY at 53.8% ABV. The nose is sweet, with green apple, cinnamon red hots, strong spice, and pine. Palate: Dark sweets, cherry cola, a touch of varnish, and tons more spice. Restrained but satisfying finish follows the nose & palate. Great summer bourbon.

INGREDIENTS:

Sauce:
1/2 cup coconut aminos
1/4 cup hoisin sauce
2 tbsp rice vinegar
1 tbsp raw honey
1 tbsp sesame oil
1 tsp fresh minced ginger
1 tsp minced garlic
2 tbsp cornstarch
1/2 cup water
.
Chicken And Veggies:
2 pounds organic boneless skinless chicken breasts, cut into 1-inch cubes
1 head broccoli, cut into florets
1 red bell pepper, thickly sliced
2 green bell pepper, thickly sliced
1 cup unsalted roasted cashews
.
INSTRUCTIONS:
1. Preheat oven to 400°F
2. In a medium saucepan, whisk together sauce ingredients until combined.
3. Bring to a simmer over medium heat, stirring regularly, until sauce thickens.
4. Remove from heat, and set aside.
5. Place chicken on a sheet pan and drizzle sauce over chicken. Toss chicken to coat in sauce. Bake in oven for 8 minutes at 400°F.
6. Remove pan from oven and add broccoli, bell pepper, and cashews in a single layer around the chicken.
7. Thoroughly mix all ingredients.
8. Return to oven and bake for an additional 8-12 minutes or until chicken is cooked completely.
9. Serve in a bowl (with cauliflower rice would be delicious!) and top with more cashews if desired. .

MANGO BLUEBERRY GINGER CRISP
3-4 cups mango, cut into bite size pieces
2 cups blueberries
The juice of 1/2 a lemon
1 tablespoon grated ginger
1 tablespoon coconut sugar
1 tablespoon arrowroot starch
Pinch of salt

TOPPING
1.5 cups old-fashioned rolled oats
½ chopped walnuts
1.5 teaspoons cinnamon
½ cup coconut sugar
¾ teaspoon salt
1/4 cup melted coconut oil
.
DIRECTIONS:
Pre heat oven to 350Fº.
.
In a large bowl combine mango, blueberries, lemon juice, and ginger. Sprinkle in sugar, arrowroot and salt, lightly toss everything together.
Pile fruit mixture into a greased 8x8 (or 9x9) baking dish.

In a separate bowl, mix together the oats, walnuts, cinnamon, coconut sugar, salt and cinnamon.
.
Evenly spread the crisp topping over the mango-blueberry mixture and pop into the oven for 35-40 minutes or until the top is golden brown, the fruit is bubbly and your kitchen smells amazing.

Serve warm, room temperature (or cold!) and top with your favorite ice-cream, whipped cream or yogurt topping. Enjoy!

This booch was a shocker for me. It’s marketed as a single fermentation, low sugar brew, so I wasn’t really sure what to expect. What I got was an explosion of fizz, spice, and, well, amazingness. From the very first sip (“holy shit”) to the final drop (“that was incredible”), I was in heaven. There’s only six grams of sugar in the whole dang bottle, yet they manage to make it taste just sweet as any other booch with double to triple the sugar content. Mind: BLOWN. Plus, the health benefits of cayenne and ginger are bonkers, and I can feel them running through me after each sip of this heavenly booch. The carbonation was spot on, and the combination of the fizz with the spiciness of the flavors left me feeling the best kind of warm and fuzzy, like a good whiskey. We give this brew a solid 4.8 Chucha’s - it’s shot to the top of my list of favorites, and I think it’ll stay there for a while 👌🏽

. 🍋 This is an incredibly easy drink to make, and great to have on hand if you aren’t drinking alcohol. The current batch of komucha that I brewed only went through a single fermentation, so it needed a little help from the seltzer for the extra effervescence. I only brew plain kombucha, so any flavor comes in post-fermentation. Hence, the fresh grated ginger which is perfect with the lemon seltzer. Kombucha is naturally tart and sweet, and is similar in flavor profile to a shrub — so if you have a cocktail that calls for shrub, try substituting some of your favorite kombucha for an earthier flavor. While I’m abstaining from alcohol just a few more weeks, until then there’s no reason to not enjoy a fancy beverage or two before dinner. So, cheers!

2 oz. Siempre tequila
1 oz. Ginger tangerine infused agave syrup
1 oz. pressed lime
1/2 oz. pressed tangerine
Pinch of Cinnamon
Garnish: Honey, cinnamon and sugar on rim with orange and ginger flower 🍊🌼

Serves 4

Ingredients

2 whole sea bass, cleaned
2 cloves garlic, peeled and crushed
3 sprigs fresh coriander
3 limes
1 large red chilli, deseeded and thinly sliced
5 cm fresh root ginger, peeled and grated
1 tbsp light soy sauce
1 tsp clear honey
Total time required: 35 mins

Preparation time: 10 mins
Cooking time: 25 mins
Other time: 30 mins marinating

Instructions
1) Slash each side of the fish two or three times with a sharp knife.
2) Finely grate the rind of 1 lime and squeeze out the juice into a shallow dish large enough to hold both fish in a single layer.
3) Stir in the chilli, garlic, ginger, soy sauce and honey. Add the fish and turn to coat.
4) Cover and refrigerate for 20-30 minutes, turning once.
5) Place each fish on a double layer of foil. Season with salt and freshly ground black pepper.
6) Tuck a couple of sprigs of coriander into the cavity of each fish. Thinly slice the second lime and arrange over the fish. Drizzle over the marinade and enclose in the foil.
7) Cook over medium-hot coals, away from direct heat, for 10-12 minutes on each side until the fish is cooked through and flakes easily. (If you have a hinged rack this is an ideal way to enclose the fish for easy turning on the barbecue.)
8) Finish with a squeeze of the remaining lime before serving.

Makes 12+ servings .

1 bottle (750ml) of Cardinal Spirits Standard Dry Gin
25 ounces carrot juice
19 ounces pineapple juice
12.5 ounces fresh-squeezed lemon juice
24 ounces ginger beer, more or less to taste (about 2 single-serve bottles)
Pineapple slices, for garnish .

Combine all liquid ingredients in a punch bowl with one giant ice cube or several large cubes. Serve in glasses with ice. Garnish with pineapple slices. (If making ahead, combine all liquids except for ginger beer, and refrigerate, up to two days ahead. When ready to serve, add ginger beer and stir gently to combine.)

Heat ghee in a large heavy pot over medium heat. Add onion, tomato paste, cardamom, and chiles and cook, stirring often, until tomato paste has darkened and onion is soft, about 5 minutes. Add remaining half of spice mixture and cook, stirring often, until bottom of pot begins to brown, about 4 minutes.
Add tomatoes with juices, crushing them with your hands as you add them. Bring to a boil, reduce heat, and simmer, stirring often and scraping up browned bits from bottom of pot, until sauce thickens, 8-10 minutes.
Add cream and chopped cilantro. Simmer, stirring occasionally, until sauce thickens, 30-40 minutes.
Meanwhile, preheat broiler. Line a rimmed baking sheet with foil and set a wire rack inside sheet. Arrange chicken on rack in a single layer. Broil until chicken starts to blacken in spots (it will not be cooked through), about 10 minutes.
Cut chicken into bite-size pieces, add to sauce, and simmer, stirring occasionally, until chicken is cooked through, 8-10 minutes. Serve with rice and cilantro sprigs.
Do Ahead: Chicken can be made 2 days ahead. Cover; chill. Reheat before serving.

Photography-wise, did I mention the getting-home-late-after-the-Parsonsfield-concert thing? Yeah… so, a similar composition to some of the earlier shots, but, look, I mirrored it left-to-right! And broke out different glassware (Edinburgh crystal, from my wife’s & my first trip to Scotland oh so many years ago)! And I shot it on a different surface (soapstone counters in the kitchen)! So many differences from the previous shots!⁣

Butternut pumpkin soup 🎃🌿⠀
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
Ingredients: ⠀
- 1 x butternut pumpkin⠀
- 2 x potatoes (large)⠀
- 1/2 x celery bunch⠀
- 4 x carrots⠀
- 1 x sweet potato (large)⠀
- 1 x onion⠀
- 4 x garlic cloves⠀
- 1 x piece of ginger (thumbnail sized)⠀
- Veggie stock (to cover the veggies once they are in the pot)⠀
- 300 ml x single cream (for a vegan alternative you can add coconut yoghurt)⠀
- Pepper⠀
- Nutmeg (if you wish - about 2 teaspoons)⠀
- Olive Oil⠀
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
Method: ⠀
1. Put a pot, with oil, on the stove over a medium heat⠀
2. Chop the onion and celery and add it to the pot⠀
3. Chop the rest of the vegetables and add them to the pot as you go, stirring them through occasionally so they move around and don’t stick to the bottom⠀
(we usually do the harder vegetables first: carrot, potatoes, sweet potato, butternut squash)⠀
4. Let the vegetables fry a little, by the time you add the butternut squash they will be mostly done. This allows the flavours of the veggies to come out a little more⠀
5. Add the veggie stock, to the pot so that it just covers the veggies⠀
6. Add the ginger (shaved)⠀
7. Leave to simmer until the veggies are cooked through, usually ½ an hour to an hour⠀
8. Once the veggies are cooked through add the mixture to your OmniBlend⠀
9. Blend for 30 seconds ⠀
10. Add the pepper, nutmeg and cream (if using yoghurt instead - add this when serving⠀
11. Blend for a further 30 seconds⠀
12. Enjoy your super smooth, creamy, delicious soup👌⠀
