"Really, want kind of gig?"
"It's a children's gig, I'm a children's musician."
"Really?..."
"Yea it's a weekly music class I run independently for families around Manhattan, I just started one up in Hoboken."
"Does it have a name?"
"Just me on my own, Dan The Music Man. [Laughter]"
"What are you going to be playing today?"
"All the favorites of kids, a few I wrote and a few Beatles songs as well, but it's been pretty awesome I've been doing this for about 3 years now."
"So you write your own children's songs?"
"Yes."
"What are some of the titles?"
"Oh well [Laughs] 'It's Gonna Be a Great Day' is a good one."
"How'd you get into music in the first place?"
"My father, he played guitar, he was always around me so I picked it up and I've been playing it ever since, after college I fell into this kind of thing as a day job at a pre-school and I got lots of positive response for myself as a performer for children so I just went off on my own, I've done a million birthday parties as well around the city."
"What was it like starting out on your own?"
"Pretty scary 'cause I mean I had to take some time to raise interest with my clients because most people are used to going to a central place like a pre-school or some kind of institution."
"So what was key in making things happen?"
"I've been very fortunate to have word of mouth, I was in the West Village which is a very tight-knit group of people, a lot of young families, I was lucky to make good relationships with a few people and there was a community website that they had that they put me up on."
"So what are your goals for 2015?"
"To complete my children's album and actually get that out there."
"How do you write a children's song?"
"[Laughs] You just sit down and think 'What are common things that kids encounter all the time?' like it can be as simple as 'I want to jump up and down and then stop.'"
"That's like T-Pain that's dope."
"Yea. [Laughs]" - Dan / #Childrens #Musician / JSQ Train #JerseyCity. 👂to the #podcast interview on #iTunes.

Tap dance is not just a style of dance. It’s not just music you make with your feet.
It’s an art.
A uniquely American art form.
Performed by uniquely talented artists not just here in the United States, but across the world.
You are looking at one of those unique artists right now.
#TapInspiration Caleb Teicher (@calebteicher) is from New York, and is a bonafide artist. From an early age, he possessed a massively noticeable talent and passion for tap dance. Over the years, he has cultivated those talents into a repertoire that makes us all marvel at just how someone could achieve such brilliance.
Caleb made his presence known several years ago when he appeared on stage as a YoungArts (@youngarts) finalist. His experience served as a launchpad towards a career in the performing arts in New York City, one that is on its way to unparalleled heights. He is the artistic director of his own dance company, one that bears his name. It’s called Caleb Teicher & Company.
Recently, he was profiled by the New York Times as a part of their Speaking In Dance series, promoting a performance in which he tap danced in heels, a skill that very few men have been able to master.
As I’ve told you before, it takes some serious skill and boldness for a man to even consider tapping in heels! Yet, if there’s one guy who can do it, Caleb is that guy.
There’s no telling what Caleb will accomplish next. If you want to know, all you have to do is follow him, open your eyes and your minds, sit back, and pay close attention.
Happy birthday, Caleb!

We all thrust for something bigger then ourselves. Its possible to create everything you want with action.
Is it the book giving him the inspiration to inspire or is he sitting under the tree to be protected from the elements of life. Or did a wise name tell him sit under and tree because exposing yourself to what’s in the book. What did the wise man tell him to read??? And that will be the million dollar question. Why I think the wise man gave him a book thats titled. Some things to can’t teach.

I recently had a client reach out to me for a big project and after a series of meetings when I told them what it would cost, they ghosted me. -
-
I think being an artist has its inevitable early stages of being a yes-man, and I’m all for making art and giving it away on your own terms. But you should never work for free. Understand that clients come to you because they see that you are talented and experienced. It is then your job to educate them on how that skill should be compensated. But if your clients want Target prices, send them to Target or tell them to do it themselves. When you settle for less, it devalues the work as a whole. Obviously it’s not my place to tell you who to work for, but I ~strongly suggest~ working for clients who are eager to support you financially.
-
I sit down at a table and make almost everything I sell with my own two hands. I am not a factory and if anyone expects me to price my work as if a machine were mass-producing it for me, you’ve come to the wrong place. Honestly a lot of effort goes into to making my pieces both quality AND financially accessible. So more than anything, I want to do business with people who see the value in my vision and are willing to elevate me as an artist and as a small business. -
-
I could easily go back to working a day job. To be honest, the money was WAY less stressful and I literally got paid for doing what felt like nothing sometimes. But I chose this work because it is life-giving and challenges me on a daily basis. I’m passionate about what I do and I think people ultimately feel that when they decide to purchase my work.
-
My grandfather always used to say, “work expands to fill the time allotted,” and I never really understood what that meant until FIBROUS. Put in the time. Do the work. And it will pay off. Don’t stress over the people who don’t value that ethic because someone always will. Ok wowie, back to it, love y’all. 🙈

PORTRAIT SITTING // A few years ago I sat for Australian artist @corinnelewis_art where she painted me for her entry in the Archibald. I was absolutely blown away at the honour, speechless at her talent, & filled with warmth at her kindness. ⠀
Corinne recently asked me if I would consider sitting for her again, she is painting for The Portia Geach Memorial Award, Australia’s most prestigious art prize for portraiture by female artists, with the subject to be a man or woman distinguished in Art, Letters, or the Sciences. ⠀
Corinne’s work celebrates women. Her brush work so intricate you would think it a photograph. To have the opportunity to sit for her again, especially in a portraiture award that is a celebration of female artists feels like a surprise golden ticket. ⠀
The lead up to the sitting (a sitting is where the artist takes photographs to create the portrait from) were a tough few days for me personally & with very little sleep I was pretty certain Corinne was not expecting to photograph a tired, emotional mess. ⠀
When she arrived & without knowing what was wrong, she hugged me tight & said we don’t have to do the sitting if I wasn’t up for it. As the awards are in celebration of women,I was adamant to get my shit together to get this done because to me, celebrating women is about honesty & sharing vulnerabilities. And in a time of social media snapshot highlight reels the reality is, that all days are not going to be happy ones. And that’s ok.
These are some of the shots from the sitting. I can see where my makeup has met tears,or been wiped with a tissue in these pictures. And that is ok.
This portrait will be painted through the coming months & while I don’t recommend sitting for one on your saddest days (🙋🏼‍♀️), I hope that through the very rare privilege to be documented in portraiture, that it captures an emotion of very real life. ⠀
Thankyou Corinne for this honour & for your ongoing celebration & championing of women. What a damn true privilege to sit for you. ⠀
With much love -SWx ⠀

I remember the homie @arthurpitt pitching his music towards the end of my run at MTV like 2010. Art would bring Mac and Wiz by the office. Wiz didn’t really speak much if you can believe that. The first time I really had a chance to sit down and talk with Mac was after I left MTVNews and was working on a #YOMTVRaps retrospect series where we had the legends such as Cube, Busta, Nore, Tribe, Etc as well as the up and coming superstars such as Game, Tyga, Meek and Mac speak on the Game changing videos from the MTVRaps era. Mac came early for his shoot, which was impressive, and he was fresh off the road from touring but very eager to do the interview because of how much he respected and revered that era. For a guy that was so young, he knew and appreciated the culture and what he wasn’t up on, he wanted to hear. Man, we talked about Tribe’s #LowEndTheory and #MidnightMarauders for about 30 minutes. This was off camera before the interview. The producers had to tells us to cut our convo short and save it for the show. Mac told me he wanted to work with Q-Tip. The. A few years later, with the unfortunate passing of Brother #PhifeDawg, Mac did a dope tribute to him. Mac was a instantly likable guy, those that got to know him loved him, dope MC and he always gave love. Took a lot of MCs that are successful today on their first or second tours as opening acts for him. He also repped his city Hard and To the fullest. 2018 is supposed to be a banner year for hip hop, but it’s stained with all these tragedies of young death. 26 is so damn soon to leave the earth. He wasn’t even in his prime personally of professionally. As an artist he was actually growing, evolving, expanding his repertoire. He continued to show and prove he did t need Heavy radio play to Make M’s or be a very viable commodity. He was conquering the game his way and I wish we could have seen him Really hit his potential. #RIPMacMiller

Most of these pieces made ZERO SENSE when I first came up with them, but I had a vision and was brave enough to give it a try! Sometimes as an artist, you feel weird because your concepts might seem a little ‘out there’ 🤣. That alone can discourage you, because you wonder if your audience will ‘get it’ to what your trying to say in your piece. I lately have learned to MUTE those discouraging voices of ‘oh this painting won’t make sense’ or ‘this piece might be too deep for them to relate’...and instead I have focused on what makes me happy by releasing those pieces that might challenge a viewers perspective! It’s also EXTREMELY important to have a solid support system of friends, and family who understand that your an artist and so that you might bug them from time to time with sharing your upcoming crazy as hell painting ideas lol! I usually call my man (he is very into art himself and fortunately doesn’t think my ideas are too crazy 🤣) where we sit and try to visualize my concepts to see what other pieces of the concept I can add or subtract. I’m so grateful to have an awesome man that appreciates my thoughts and challenges me by pushing my creativity to another level! Also my parents are a HUGE influence because they have been around literally all my life supporting my creativity, so they are always like ‘just go for it Whit’ they never doubt nor think their child is insane 😩🤣! Yet there is also another side to this...You can come up with super creative concepts, and you can have an amazing support system...and STILL the painting doesn’t come out right 🤣! Reguardless if the painting comes out being a masterpiece, or a disappointing waste of canvas lol, YOU STILL WON! You challenged yourself, to create something that pushed your comfort level...you attempted to introduce a piece of you that others may or may not understand! That’s a beautiful thing! Continue to move forward knowing that your creativity won’t EVER DIE, as long as you continue to push it to new heights and stay strong by not allowing your insecurities ruin your potential! #blackart #dopeart #supportblackart #artoftheday

It is a truly incredible honour to have had sat for one of Australia’s best portrait artists, Corinne Lewis. This is her submission for the The Portia Geach Memorial Award, Australia’s most prestigious art prize for portraiture by female artists, with the subject to be a man or woman distinguished in Art, Letters, or the Sciences.
Corinne’s entire body of work is dedicated to celebrating women, so to be able to sit for her is incredibly special to me, made only more so by the fact that is being submitted for a portraiture prize that is dedicated to celebrating Australian women in the arts.
Corinne, how lucky we are to have your talent in this world.

ARTIST’S STATEMENT: Portrait of Samantha Wills, 2018.
As an artist, philanthropist and writer Samantha has much to offer the world. As an artist, her jewellery adorns women physically, but as a Writer and Philanthropist her words and work are like jewellery for the mind.
In my portrait, Samantha leans forward with a confidence and strength, yet her dress falls to unveil her vulnerability, a juxtaposition that women of this generation are having to find balance between as we navigate the continued conversation and fight towards true gender equality. One earring visible symbolizes her brand as an artist. Her gaze direct and clear is reflective of her philanthropic work, and her commanding pose, shows beauty in strength.

Samantha Wills is an Australian success story, growing her accessories brand from Port Macquarie to the world stage of New York City. Wills shares her story with transparency and vulnerability with a commitment to sharing the hurdles and downfalls, not only the wins or the “highlight reel”. Samantha’s message is; “Little girls with big dreams, become women with vision.” In 2016 Samantha founded The Samantha Wills Foundation, an organization designed to empower women in business.
Samantha has been labeled “Australia’s biggest export since Vegemite,” by Australian fashion writer Ines Mendoza. – Corinne Lewis, ARTIST

Ashraf and our new in house artist, Irfan, just came back from Tampin to complete a wall mural art for Mr Shankar. So glad that it went really well and we got another Happy Customer! Yeay!
.
.
As i work with more and more commission and local artist, i've learnt to be more focus and organized. It's funny that i had to manage stressed, emotional, tempremental and egoistic artist on a daily basis...🤣 but I guess that makes us human.
.
.
I have been working with South East Asian artist for the past 7 years, but hiring and working with locals has always been my goal, however crossing this barrier, also means i need to be more commited and work even harder. I managed to slowly grow my team from just a 1 man show to a team of 4, with no funding. .
.
On top of that, the last quarter of 2019 is definitely the most challenging for us as we have taken up new style of art work that also include conceptualisation, mural, watercolour and interior styling. With this new team, i am confident that we all can grow in much greater heights and achieve more. .
.
Having a good team to work together is the best thing that ever happen in @artisanmalaysia and i am so glad that we found each other. #localartist #malaysia #kualalumpur #entrepreneurship #entrepreneur

-
10 Sefiroth of Nothingness
10 and not 9
10 and not 11
Understand with Wisdom
Be wise with Understanding
Examine with them
and probe from them
Make [each] thing stand on its essence
And make the Creator sit on His base.
— Sefer Yetzirah
-
The highest faculty in man is will. This corresponds to the first of the Sefirot, Kether (Crown). If one were to attempt to describe God, it would be tempting to say that God is pure Will. This would be very much like saying that God is “spirit,” or “love,” since all such descriptions attempt to depict God in terms of human traits. If any human trait were to be used, however, it should be will since this is the highest of all human faculties.
-
If we would say that God was pure Will, however, then we would be saying that God is identical with Kether. Kether, however, is merely a Sefirah, and as such, it is something created by God and inferior. We therefore cannot even say that God in pure Will. Even Will is among creation, and is inferior to God. Therefore, there is no word that can be used to describe God's essence.
-
God belongs to a totally different category than the Sefiroth, and is not to be counted among them. This is particularly important for the mystic. As a person reaches the highest levels, they might think that they is actually reaching God. The Sefer Yetzirah therefore warns that when one climbs the ladder of the Sefiroth, there are only 10 steps, and not 11. The Ultimate Creator is always beyond our grasp.

I’ve had an influx of followers the past few months, so thought this would be the best time to share a little about the artist behind the vision. I’ve been a competitive dancer most of my life. Spent the majority of my adult life traveling the globe teaching, competing and judging on the West Coast Swing Circuit (If you want to see my other passion, You Tube “Jen DeLuca” and enjoy!) Retired from the road and decided to be a Mommy in 2015. I teach group classes here in Orlando but focus mainly on the job of being a FULL time Mom. Honored to share such time with the most amazing little man, Dominik Dean. He’s a bit over 2 years and totally going on 16 lmao🤣 I’m brutally honest about Motherhood and have my ups and downs like any parent but wouldn’t trade it for anything. I’ve been with my husband for 15 years, married for 10 and no he isn’t a dancer ( I get asked that A LOT) He’s my rock, inspiration and everything I could ever want in a witness to my life. Another passion of mine is in Hospice care. Spent 2 years volunteering at a local Hospice House prior to getting pregnant. I miss the realness of it all and hope the opportunity will present itself down the road. It was honestly one of the most spiritually profound times of my life. The people I had the honor to sit with during such a sacred transition touched my soul like no other. Shortly after having Dominik, my husband and I were both diagnosed with Lyme disease. Actually, my husband was, I found out a year later after it had already attacked my neurological system. Everyone has their cross and ultimately Lyme is mine. The evolution of Soulfully Adorned has taken many turns but no matter where it goes, it continues to be my creative outlet and meditation. I’m an open book and am always down to talk about life’s ups and downs, never be a stranger! Getting to know the soul behind the “like” or “follow” is my truest mission, for your love continues to fuel my art and passion to heal from afar thru my work! Thank you for giving me the tools I need to sculpt Soulfully Adorned one Longhorn at a time 😘 Photography - @careypphoto
