I'm a (fake) mom of six girls.
When I took this job, they told me I would be bouncing between cottages. Going wherever they needed me. And I spent a lot of time doing that. I spent several days house-parenting the younger teen boys and loved it. And I worked with a few girls cottages on various days.
But then these girls came to campus. And they placed a single RA to be their Houseparent. And decided they needed another RA to help her everyday to make it more consistent for the girls. So they assigned me to their cottage everyday for the foreseeable future.
So here I am: half-parenting six sassy, gorgeous, dance-loving, loud singing, constantly matching queens (I mean, sisters). I love them. I love God. And I love my job.

Out of those, 79 percent% are men. While women are more prone to having suicidal thoughts, men are actually more likely to do it. Some six million men in America are diagnosed with depression annually. While depressed women are more likely to report feelings of sadness, helplessness, and guilt, men are more likely to suffer in silence and not seek treatment. Researchers say it is often more difficult for men to identify their illness. Men with depression are more likely to report fatigue, irritability, and loss of interest in work. You probably don’t need me to tell you that 99 percent% of mass shootings are reportedly to be done by men.
I can’t talk about men without talking about women, who for far too long have suffered at the hands of boys who fail to grow up into men for far too long. Eighty-five percent of all victims of domestic violence victims are women. One in three women have has been a victims of some form of physical violence by an intimate partner within their her lifetime. Domestic violence is the third leading cause of homelessness among families, with 50 percent% of all women who are homeless reporting that domestic violence was the immediate cause of them their leaving home, according to The the National Center on Family Homelessness. And of course, this trickles down to the children. Some 40 to –60 percent of men who abuse women also abuse children. One out of every five 1 in 5 number of teenage girls says they she have has been in a relationship where the boyfriend threatened violence or self-harm if a breakup was were to occur. All of this abuse feeds on itself, and this cycle needs to be broken. It’s not about blame. It’s about taking responsibility. Now more than ever we have a duty to take ownership and redefine ourselves. #miserablefuck

There is no question, that michael jackson was one of the greatest talents the world has ever known. That his music had the extra layer of inexplicable magic. That didn't just make me want to dance but actually made me believe that I could fly, dare to dream be anything that I wanted to be. Because that is what heroes do and michael jackson was a hero. He performed in soccer stadiums around the world, he sold hundreds of millions of records, he dined with prime ministers and presidents. Girls feel in love with him, boys feel in love with him. He seemed otherworldly but he also human being. Like most performers he was shy and plagued with insecurities. Then the witch hunt began and it seemed like one negative story after the other was coming out about michael. I felt his pain, but I had a childhood and I was allowed to make mistakes and find my own way in the world without the glare of the spotlight. While he was trying to build a family and rebuild his career we were all busy passing judgement, most of us had turned our backs on him. In a desperate attempt to hold onto his memory, I went on the internet to watch old clips of him dancing and singing on tv and on stage and I thought, "My God, he was so unique, so original, so rare, and there will never be anyone like him again, he was a king". But he was also human being and at last, we are all human being and sometimes we have to lose things before we can truly appreciate them. I hope that wherever michael is right now, he smiling about this. Yes, michael jackson was human being but dammit, he was a king.

She is a Little Forest bat, our smallest flying mammal, weighing not much over 3g. She is one of the previous group of little bats. These bats tend to roost in segregated groups and these are a group of girls. No boys allowed under their umbrella. The red on my hand is not blood but red nail polish that I had begun to use for identification, on her nails. It is lovely to have a group of healthy individuals that can be released after a check up. All were fine. All six fluttered off as darkness fell and the mozzies descended. These little ones frequent the top of the canopy of the bush and speed around amazingly fast. Another piece of the puzzle that is our environment. Remember never to touch a bat but call in local wildlife rescue volunteers who are vaccinated and trained in their care. No touch no risk. #australianbats #australiannativeanimals #littleforestbat #wild #australianmicrobats #lovethemorleavethemalone #bats #batsarecool #batsareNOTpets #bat #volunteersareawesome #vaccinatedandlicencedcarer

Phoebe had moved to Massachusetts from Ireland... She was 15 years of age... So full of life... And had a bright future... Sadly she was also a target of bullies... Two groups of girls... Along with two boys... Bullied her due to jealousy... Phoebe had endured months of bullying... At school and at home through the use of the internet... On January 14th, 2010 she had ultimately taken her own life... Phoebe’s story thrust school and cyber bullying into the National and International spotlight... And motivated state laws to criminalize it... Six of Phoebe’s peers were convicted of bullying her... Phoebe’s Law was passed in her honor... Today I honor her💚
As Women we need to stand up for more than just our rights... We need to stand up for any and all injustices... Even thou this sweet girl is gone from this world... She can still feel the loving energy from us... I ask that you honor her as well... With a simple Thank You... Her death has brought bullying of any kind tougher consequences🙌🏻💚 #phoebeprince #november24th #january14th #antibullying #internationalwomensday #womensupportingwomen #sendingloveandlight #ireland

A true #revolutionary, #freedom fighter & soldier for #humanrights. -
Here is one of thousands of stories about Winnie, 40 years ago, when #apartheid was in full swing. "1976 August, late afternoon, Mam-Winnie was alone surrounded by a group of soldiers from 4 South African army Hippo armoured vehicles and an army truck. -
With R4 assault rifles pointing at her, the white soldiers were swearing at her, calling her a "Kaffir Hoer" (demeaning her as a Black Whore). Six bleeding school children, in school uniform, who were shot by the soldiers were lying on the ground grimacing in pain.- Winnie picked up the kids 4 boys and 2 girls, loaded them into her VW Beetle, while yelling "Shoot Me, Shoot Me". She then drove off towards Baragwanath Hospital. -

I was among a crowd of onlookers, of all ages and gender, who would not dare go and assist her and the kids, for fear of being shot. Had she not done that, the kids would have been loaded into the truck left there hours to die, and to be buried in unmarked mass graves as was the case during that time. Old Apartheid wounds have been opened by her passing."-

Thank you for taking the time to following my family and I. It's been a while since I formally introduced myself. 😁 Hi, I'm Mrs. Kathy King & I've been sharing my life on social media for over eight years. My site started as a way to share deals that I found with friends, & through time it evolved into a place where I share a kaleidoscope of ideas. 👰 I was blessed to meet the man of my dreams over 25 years ago. I think I found him early in life because while other kids where praying for a raise on their allowance, I was praying for God to bring me, someone, I could share my entire life with. 🏠My husband Matt & I have been married for 22 years and have 3 beautiful kids J.J King (21), Houston (18) & Joy (5 @missjoyking ). You may be wondering what's up with the age gap? Well, I honestly wanted to have a girl first. However, my husband Matt is Italian, & since his brother had all girl, the pressure was on for us to have boys. We conceived JJ about six months after our wedding and Houston 2 year's later & my inlaws wer ecstatic. 💎However, I spent 20 years daydreaming of having a daughter, to the point my heart sank every time I passed the girls section of a department store. I am thankful she came on God's timeline and appreciate the experience I gained from raising her brothers. It prepared me for her.
♥ I love watching Scooby Dooby Doo, crafting, styling parties, making decorations and all of the above. I'm the happiest with a glue gun in hand & with every project, my mission is to create something that will make people smile.
🎂 Stay tune we are in the process of updating the site to reflect more of my creative side & will be offering several services such as custom party decorations, party planning and other items.
🌸 I'm my best when I let God lead my path. It's by the grace of God I've been able to work as an entertainment blogger, it's the gifts he has gaven Matt and I that allow us to create party designs that have been used by thousands of people and its by Gods grace that my kids have been able to experience things beyond my imagination. ♥I am thankful for all that God has done, will do and go to do.♥ #mrskathyking #iammrskathyking

When I was 11-12 y/o, I was the “chubby” girl. I would eat everything in sight. I didn’t exercise or play sports. I was the outcast. The one that boys made fun of for having a big chest & love handles. Fast forward to high school — The popular girls would shun me because I didn’t “fit into” their perfect idea of what a teenager should look or act like. I was the chill girl that guys latched onto as their best friend but never the girl they wanted to “date.” I would avoid taking pictures, going to pep rallies & clung to rebels who smoked a lot of weed, cut class & spoke back to teachers. Poor choices led to poor decisions & as a result, my self image suffered. My struggle with weight is something I have dealt with for a long time & as you could tell, it had a domino effect on other parts of my life. I find it comical when people think that I’ve always been “fit” because they have absolutely no idea what I’ve been through. well, here’s some more truth to my story.. I still let my insecurities get the best of me from time to time. I still beat myself up over the fact that I’ve never had a muscular physique, a big butt, a dope six-pack or lean, mean abs. But here is my secret. I do not stop trying. Ive learned that if you set your mind to ANYTHING, you could accomplish whatever you want! It’s a waste of time to accept judgement or to let obstacles & fear get in the way of reaching your goals. If we push ourselves to visualize gold & reach for it, we could all live out our “dream” life. Yes, I’m preaching like a badass b*tch because I believe we are all capable of being great. Of course, change could be hard & there’s always sacrifices that come along with evolving but its worth it. Overtime, I’ve made some serious lifestyle adjustments. As a result, I’ve become happier & more fulfilled. We all have a choice: You could choose to be your own best friend or your own worst enemy but you CAN’T choose to be somebody else other than yourself....LoL sooo how shall I end this lonnnnngggg, babbling story? Hmmmm🤔...how about with a new beginning🤗...to be continued!😁

Zeke: napping on the go and waking up in random places, survived his first night without his beloved pacifier, fully potty trained and still a foodie, very attached to me....
Waylon: almost finished with kindergarten, asks me if I’m going to cry at his graduation... yes that’s an affirmative, owning six years with serious sass, has all sorts of opinions especially what gets played in the car, telling his baby brother jokes and singing “Jesus loves me” to comfort him while he detoxes from his beba (pacifier).
Me: rocking the dirty hair ponytail 5 days out of 7, looking for deals on vintage trailers to fix up or a beach mobile like this one, realizing the old wives are right about the difference between how you carry girls vs boys when pregnant (let’s just say I’m not “all baby” this time around 😂), pining for Wednesday nights so I can watch Handmaids Tale.
Sam: holding down the fort, perfecting his oven roasted potatoes 👌🏼 (Anthony Bordain would approve and salute you my dear), about to shape his first surfboard, building an insane mid century modern house, making sure the bath water stays in the bath and generally staying the sane parent these days. 〰️

Welcome, welcome, welcome to your next challenge on Vendettas! We’re playing “Food Wars!”
-
This competition will be played in six teams of three and one team of two. At the start of each round, I will ask a trivia question. If you think you know what the answer to the question is, comment:
“(name) buzzes in with (the answer).”
The first person to buzz in with the correct answer will grant themselves as well as their entire team safety from having to compete from that round whereas all the other teams will have to select one representative from their team that will have to compete. Once all the representatives have been selected, I will state a task. Each representative must privately DM me how long they think it will take them to complete that task. The person who sent in the lowest time will then have to complete the task in the amount of time they submitted. If they complete the task, they will eliminate the person who sent in the highest time as long as their entire team. If they do not complete the task, they will be eliminated along with their entire team.
-
The last team standing at the end of today’s challenge will form the almighty Troika. On the other hand, the first team to be eliminated from this challenge will have to vote in one of their members to be automatically sent into the elimination round. If the person voted in is a boy, it will be a boys elimination week, if the person voted in is a girl, it will be a girls elimination week.
-
Derrick (@realityxmatt), as winner of last week’s elimination round, you earned yourself a grenade. Derrick has decided to use the “Team Up” grenade and as a result, he has formed the seven teams for this competition. You will all be notified of the teams shortly. Good luck everyone!

It's also the FASTEST growing criminal enterprise in the U.S. — a $32 Billion industry… and the world doesn’t even know it. Quite frankly, our brains don’t want to believe it. I am incredibly inspired and grateful for the work being done by my partners at Operation Underground Railroad (@OURrescue). This extraordinary organization is made up of former C.I.A., FBI, and SEAL Team Six members who free children around the world from horrific conditions and capture their perpetrators. OUR has created a documentary titled, “Operation Toussaint” to spread the word and bring awareness. The decision for newly crowned IAAF World Under-20 women’s sprint double champion Briana Williams to compete in the black, green and gold of Jamaica in international track and field competition, instead of United States where she was born, was made by the athlete herself.

Sharon Simpson, Briana’s mother, told the Jamaica Observer on Sunday’s final day of the six-day championships in Tampere Stadium, that trips to Jamaica to visit family and the excitement of the ISSA Boys’ and Girls’ Championships could have been the main factor in the teenager’s decision to shun the red, white and blue of the United States and their seemingly endless resources.

A new milestone achieved!
Nelson Mandela said that poor Menstrual hygiene was one of the three reasons why girls were facing inequality as compared to boys.
It was an honour to inaugurate the first sanitary pad manufacturing unit set up by us in South Africa along with his excellency, President Cyril Ramaphosa. It was a pleasure to escort you to the unit and explain the project and how the unit works.
Work has already started and the first batch of 100% compostable, low cost sanitary pads have been produced! Two shifts of six to eight women and one supervisor each have been trained to operate the unit providing employment to the women of Mvezo. Around 2000 pads will be produced everyday and no girl shall feel uncomfortable while attending school.
We already have more than 40 of these units running across 12 states of India. We are soon to open a unit in Johannesburg and also move to Kenya and Rwanda.
Witnessing my project cross continents in such a short period of time is like a dream come true!
Milestones still to be achieved...

Happy Friday, friends!! ☀️
I’ve never done #fridayintroductions and thought it was probably time I did! 💕
Here’s a little bit about me….
*
Matt and I decided only six days after meeting that we wanted to get married. 😯 I was instantly attracted to him because he was “tall, dark, and handsome.” #shallow But it was when he turned out to be a wonderful conversationalist that I fell in love with him. #alittledeeper Plus, how hard he made me laugh. 😂 We celebrated our 25th anniversary this year!😍
*
I had 8 children in 12 years. No twins. Doesn’t sound mathematically possible, but have birth certificates to prove it. Four boys and four girls. 4 kids out of the house and 4 still at home, including our #specialneeds sweetheart. I LOVE being their mother. 💗💗
*
My husband @faithfulman has been the pastor of a #homechurch for 15 years, and we’re blessed with a particularly loving, growing, faithful community of believers (so if you’re discouraged by the state of the church, let me tell you - there’s hope!). 🙌🏻
*
6 years ago one of our daughters made me start a blog. So thankful for a “bossy” girl because Club31Women.com turned out to be a lovely place for me (and many others). 🌸🌸
*
Then 4 years ago my husband made me write a book: 100 Ways to Love Your Husband. We sat in a café, and he told me I should stay until I finished. But he also bought me a crazy number of lavender lattes to spur me on ☕️ ☕️ (apparently bossiness runs in the family 😉). Surprisingly, that simple book - and his #100waystoloveyourwife - turned out to be best-sellers. Must be all the lavender.💜
*
😦FEARS: Snakes (dead or alive). 🐍 Heights (newly developed 🤷‍♀️). Letting down the people I love.
*
🤗 FAVORITES. My happy place is out on our patio here in Central Oregon. Or by the fireplace in the winter. I like writing, but love reading even more. 📚 Growing herbs. French-press coffee and mint-chip ice cream (not necessarily together). Friendship. Family. Faith.❤️
*
👉YOUR TURN: Tell me something about you, or some favorite of yours!

⚠️ WE NEED YOUR HELP ‼️ Human trafficking is a subject that no one wants talk about. It is truly the darkest part of humanity and a crime so heinous that most people avoid even THINKING about it but the fact remains: Something MUST be DONE to STOP IT.
.
Every 30 seconds, a CHILD is enslaved for reasons beyond most people’s comprehension — for sex, for labor, for organ harvesting. It’s unconscionable. It's also the FASTEST growing criminal enterprise in the U.S. — a $32 Billion industry… and the world doesn’t even know it. Quite frankly, our brains don’t want to believe it. It’s time to #StepUp and take ACTION. Here’s how …
.
I am incredibly inspired and grateful for the work being done by my partners at Operation Underground Railroad (@OURrescue). This extraordinary organization is made up of former C.I.A., FBI, and SEAL Team Six members who free children around the world from horrific conditions and capture their perpetrators. But O.U.R. agents ALSO teach local authorities how to capture perpetrators themselves using the most advanced special forces' techniques.
.
Since partnering with OUR, we’ve personally participated, along with our community, in efforts to free over 1,200 girls and boys from enslavement. But there’s much more work to be done.

My boys (six and eight) have been begging to separate so it’s either: ⁣
A) Too bad so sad.⁣
B) Put a boy number 1 in our toddler girls nursery and put her in boy number 2’s room.⁣

We are children 6 and 7 of 9 kids (yes, NINE!) and shared bedrooms until high-school when the older sibs were long gone. I think sharing a space is good for kids but am also SO tired of the bickering and wonder if having their own spaces will help alleviate that? 🤷🏻‍♀️ ⁣

I was driving home from work when I got a call from my husband, telling me our little girl was crying and telling him her arm hurt. My first instinct was to drive faster and get home to see what was wrong. But at that moment I remembered reading a post on @alexisdelchiaro’s page not long ago, about her daughter hurting her arm... Immediately I knew this was the same situation #nursemaidselbow — ever heard of it? I hadn’t 🤷🏻‍♀️
We took her to the doctor & I am not even exaggerating— in 3 seconds it was fixed. No more tears! It was incredible to watch the sudden change of mood 🙌🏼 The doctor did say this could happen again, showed us what to do & mentioned this is more common with girls than boys.
As far as #nursemaidselbow — like I mentioned it is a common injury for toddlers; and can happen until they’re about six or seven. It happens when a ligament slips out of place and gets caught between two bones of the elbow joint. Again, the fix was quick and easy— with just one move, it was as if nothing had happened.
Just wanted to share our experience with you, in case you have to deal with this down the line.
Thanks to Alexis’ post I did not panic or go crazy — as I may have otherwise.
I’ll tell you this though— I have one strong little girl 💜

Our partners, @bgcmp , couldn’t agree more, which is why they collaborated with The ZAC Foundation to educate children about water safety both inside and outside of the pool. 💦

The @ZACFoundation was established by Karen and Brian Cohn after the loss of their six-year-old son, Zachary Archer Cohn, who became trapped in a drain in their backyard swimming pool. The four day program took place at the Legacy Foundation Chris-Town @YMCA pool and could not have taken place without the partnership of The Boys and Girls Club and The ZAC Foundation and the help of public officials, YMCA lifeguards and volunteers. 🏊🏻‍♂️ By giving children a fun atmosphere and lessons on safety, we are helping to unite against summer learning loss in the most refreshing way. 🏊🏽‍♀️ Read more about it in our latest blog! I was surrounded by loads of boys, most of whom were a few years older than me which I found rather intimidating! However, I stepped on court and it’s been pretty hard to get me off since! I have never looked back and after my first session was never worried about going onto court or being the only girl on court as I was always having fun and that was all I cared about. I have entered loads of competitions to obtain points for the squash rankings we have in England. A highlight playing tournaments for me would be how many amazing friends I’ve met. One of my favourite playing partners is my sister Amy who loves running around trying to hit the ball.” Thanks Lexie and Amy for inspiring more women and girls to try squash! @England_Squash #ThisGirlCan #squash #EnglandSquash

2. Saudi Arabia’s Energy Minister says the diplomatic rift with Canada won’t disrupt the kingdom’s oil sales to Canadian customers, showing that there are limits to the retaliation Riyadh is willing to mete out in the dispute over Western criticism of the kingdom’s human-rights practices.
.
Canada’s consumption of Saudi oil is relatively small. It brought in 15 per cent of its oil imports from the kingdom in 2017, according to Statistics Canada. For the first six months of 2018, Canada imported an average of 121,415 barrels a day from Saudi Arabia, the National Energy board said.

3. About one in seven cannabis users said they had recently gotten behind the wheel after consuming the drug, according to a survey by Statistics Canada that reveals lax attitudes toward drug-impaired driving as the country prepares for legalization.
.
Statistics Canada’s National Cannabis Survey results from the first half of this year, released on Thursday, show boys and men were nearly two times more likely to report driving within two hours of using marijuana than girls and women, although both appeared to be driving after consuming marijuana at greater rates than driving while drunk. Five per cent said they had accepted a ride from a driver who had consumed the drug in the previous two hours.

I grew up the youngest of nine children. Six girls and three boys. As the youngest, I lived in a bubble, insulated from expectations of what it meant to be a young Latina, until I became a teenager. The piercing of the bubble began when I was 13 in the early 1980’s, on a weekend morning when my brother, who was in his twenties, with high expectations told me to iron his shirt.

“What?” I said dumbfoundedly.

“Iron my shirt. I have to leave soon,” he said.

“Iron your own shirt,” I said determinedly.

My brother was surprised by my response.

He was emphatic: “You are supposed to iron my shirt.”

“Supposed to?? Says who?? I am not going to iron your shirt,” I said.

“Iron my shirt,” he continued.

Hearing us arguing, my mother stepped in and sided with my brother saying that I need to iron his shirt.

“¡Hazlo,” she said.

“No, I am not going to. He is old enough to do it himself,” I replied. I added, “Why is he still living here?” That question seemed to rip the buttons off his wrinkled shirt. The arguing continued now with both my mother and brother. Even in my doggedness, I felt a sense of desperation, of something being imposed upon me, a constraint that I could not be free from.

My father had been quietly listening as he sat in the kitchen finishing up his breakfast. He walked into the area where the ironing board stood and where the arguing was steaming. He said to my brother, calmly, as if something out wrinkles with his voice.

“Times have changed. Mija doesn’t need to iron your shirt.” This unexpected gift given from my father was a profound love and respect that pressed me into me. Strength, will, and power of protest. I was free to be.

Released in #1981. When the album was eventually released, it steadily climbed the Billboard 200 chart, ultimately peaking at number one, where it remained for six consecutive weeks, ranking second among Billboard's Top 100 albums of 1982. The LP sold in excess of two million copies and reached double platinum status, making it one of the most successful debut albums of all time.

The most popular girl group of the New Wave surfed to the top of the charts with this hooky debut. Everyone knows " #WeGottheBeat" and " #OurLipsOurSealed," exuberant songs that livened up the Top Forty, but the entire album welds punkish spirit to party-minded pop – from the L.A. anthem "This Town" to splashy power-pop like "Skidmarks on My Heart" and "Can't Stop The World." It's a beachscape of catty girls and pretty boys, and an image of Southern California that's just as indelible as anything by the #Eagles or #Doors.

Nana Mary started some of the most vicious food fights I have ever witnessed. She was a loyal viewer of Judge Judy, and an avid bingo player. She raised two boys, SIX GIRLS, and more grandchildren and great-children than I can count in my head at this time. She loved two husbands. She was only ticklish behind her ears. At some age, I figured out that a particular humming sound, when made close to her ear, would cause her to jump and laugh.
I did a lot of ridiculous things to make her laugh. She disapproved of my cursing, but once looked me dead in the eye and gave me the finger as a wordless goodbye. She could not be lied to and she hated a kiss-ass. She loved the song “Blueberry Hill”. To me she was one of the most important people; a source of tough love and sarcastic humor. I am who I am due to her. I’m grateful for everything she gave. She’d probably read this and say “up your nose with a rubber hose.”
I’m gonna miss her forever.
Love to all my weirdo cousins and totally-not-weird aunts, all of whom claim to be her favorite child. Let’s get together soon and have a food fight. ❤️

The couple, who told People that they always wanted a large family, were thrilled to add the three baby girls and three baby boys – Rivers, Rayne, Rawlings, Blu, Tag, and Layke – to the mix, but they were also nervous. The sextuplets were born before 30 weeks gestation and they were at risk for many complications. Yet the couple chose life for all their children, despite the odds. “I was scared to death,” Waldrop told People. “I’m a smaller framed girl, and my first thoughts were on how I was going to successfully get six kids here without something happening to them or me. There was a lot of fear. We didn’t know what to do or think.”The couple, who have been together since middle school, married in 2004, and welcomed three sons – Saylor, now eight, and twin five-year-olds Wales and Bridge. They suffered from miscarriages, and fertility treatments helped them conceive the twins. After that, they lost another child to miscarriage. “It was devastating because I can get pregnant so easily, I just can’t hold on to them,” said Waldrop. “It was upsetting, but we had experienced it before and I knew I had a medical issue that contributed to it.”A low-dose treatment of fertility drugs was supposed to help the couple achieve pregnancy without worrying that they would become pregnant with more than two babies at once. But in May of 2017, they discovered they were expecting six.

The risks were high for the babies and their mom. There was concern the babies would be born too early and that Waldrop could suffer from strokes, high blood pressure, and gestational diabetes, among other issues. Doctors suggested selective reduction in which some of the babies would be aborted to increase the odds of survival for the rest. The couple refused, and chose life for all six babies. Our faith in God is very strong, and we never would have thought we would have considered that. But with the risks involved, no doctor could sugar coat what could happen. The risks are real for me and for the babies. […] When we let it go and turned it all over to [God],(Read rest below 👇🏻)

Rhonda Renee Johnson (1956 – 1971) and Sharon Lynn Shaw (1957 — 1971) were two teenage girls who disappeared in Harris County, Texas on the afternoon of August 4, 1971. The girls, both of Webster, Texas, spent the day on a beach in Galveston on Galveston Bay, approximately one week before Sharon's fourteenth birthday. They were seen leaving the beach, but did not return home. Eyewitnesses reported last seeing the girls walking on Seawall Boulevard in Galveston

On January 3, 1972, two boys fishing in Clear Lake discovered a human skull floating in the water, which they had initially believed to be a sports ball. Six weeks later, searchers discovered the rest of the body, along with that of another girl, in a marsh near the lake. According to a coroner's inquest filed on February 17, 1972, the skull found in the lake was determined via dental records to have belonged to Sharon Shaw. Additionally, a crucifix found wrapped around the jawbone of the skull was identified by Shaw's mother to have belonged to her daughter. The other body found in the marsh was positively identified as Rhonda Johnson.

In May 1972, a tip was received from Glenn Price, a city councilman, to look into Michael Lloyd Self, a gas station attendant and sex offender in Galveston. Police visited Self at his workplace, and he voluntarily went to the police station the following day for questioning. When shown photos of Shaw and Johnson, Self admitted to recognizing the girls, but stated that he did not know them. According to Self, Chief Michael Morris held him in confinement for hours, remarking that he would not leave until Self had made a confession. Self also stated he was held against a wall, hit with a nightstick, and taunted by Morris with his pistol, threatening to kill him if he did not confess. Self eventually agreed to confess, and was forced by Morris to hand-write a confession to the murders of Shaw and Johnson. Morris allegedly forced Self to re-write the confession several times. Dave Coburn, a local investigator, corroborated Self's story by claiming to have witnessed Morris treat a prisoner exactly the same way a year prior. #destroytheday

Has God ever called you to something that felt completely impossible in your own strength?
.
When our sons were eleven and thirteen, God called us to adopt a little girl from Ethiopia. After mountains of paperwork and mountain-moving prayers we sensed God leading us to adopt two girls between four and six years old so there wouldn’t be a huge age gap with our boys.
.
But in the end, God didn’t give us two little girls that fit nice and neatly into our family. He gave us a baby: a 6 -month-old baby girl who weighed 8 pounds.
.
Although we knew without a doubt she was to be ours, we also knew she was severely malnourished and had high risks of neurological struggles and many unknowns.
.
But what scared me most was that I was forty-two years old, had aging parents with health issues, a tween and teenage boy I was desperately trying to figure out how to parent, a very full-time job and no memory of anything I ever knew about babies.
.
How in the world am I going to do this? I wondered.
.
I imagine Joshua may have asked the same question when God called him to step into Moses’ shoes and take on the assignment of leading the nation of Israel into the Promise Land.
.
I love Joshua’s story so much because God didn’t just call and commission him, and then leave Joshua alone to figure it out on his own.
.
God prepared Joshua through decades of serving beside and learning from Moses.
.
God equipped Joshua by allowing him to see the struggles and victories, blessings and battles of a Godly leader, and God’s favor and faithfulness to a person fully surrendered to God’s calling.

God empowered Joshua with confidence by reminding him it was God who would fulfill His promise to give them this land.

God commanded Joshua to stay strong and courageous and then He told him how...

Yesterday I received this beautiful potholder from my oldest, six-year-old son—a classic kid’s weaving project that I’d been hoping for since he started kindergarten two autumns ago. ▪️ I squealed when I opened it, wrapped in his handmade gift paper with “mom” scrawled in red marker across the top. ▪️ It’s one of my favorite gifts of ALL time from my boys and there have been some rather adorable gifts in the past six years. ▪️ I’ve worked on two weaving projects with my oldest and will start soon with my littlest. But as a fiber artist mama, to have him give me this sweet weaving as a Mother’s Day gift, it hit all the right notes. ▪️ And this is also a huge Thank You to all the teachers who lead our children through these important creations. The art teaches, music teachers, drama teachers, and classroom teachers in public and private schools around the world. ▪️ These beginnings in creativity, color, composition, textures, materials, and expression are truly everything. I want my boys to know how to weave, knit, stitch, and sew alongside our regular mending and plant-dyeing. ▪️ I’ve been drawing, painting, sculpting, weaving, sewing, singing, dancing, writing, reading, and visiting museums, theaters, galleries, libraries, and book stores since my kids were born. Yes, I take my six-year-old and my three-year-old to major museums and live performances somewhat regularly and they’re becoming perceptive little audience members. It’s just the norm when Mama’s a fiber artist and Dad is a designer for theater and dance. ▪️ But when other adults, outside of our family, give them access to these creative materials and experiences it’s objective, inclusive, and engaging in a different way than from Mom and Dad. ▪️ And maybe it’s just a standard potholder to some, but it’s beautiful early fiber art to others. And as the proud mama of two young sons, these projects are instrumental to their understanding of the arts— what might be “traditional women’s crafts” are too often overlooked in creative curriculum. ▪️ So, alongside ethical fashion and fiber expression, let’s please teach our girls AND boys to weave, dye, knit, stitch, and sew. ▪️💕▪️

When Noa Rae O’Neill showed an interest in playing baseball, her mother enthusiastically registered the then-six-year-old with a league in Toronto. Noa Rae was the only girl among the 400 kids in her age division.

“She loved baseball, and she was amazing at it, but when it came time to sign up again, she said ‘I’m not doing it,’” her mom, Dana Bookman, said. She acknowledged the team dynamic was “off,” with boys being reluctant to throw the ball to her daughter.

Bookman searched for an all-girls league in Toronto and discovered that none existed for younger girls. In fact, while there are all-girls leagues in Canada for sports like hockey and soccer, girls baseball leagues are a rarity. “Baseball feels like the last frontier,” Bookman said, adding that girls have traditionally been limited in baseball and pushed into softball, which uses a bigger and softer ball.

“Baseball powers think that girls have softball and boys have baseball, and they think that’s the equivalent, but baseball and softball are as different as hockey and ringette,” said Bookman.

So the mom of two decided to start her own league and founded Toronto Girls Baseball in 2016. Through word of mouth and social media, she recruited 42 girls and created four teams. Just one year later, the league ballooned to 350 girls, with 32 teams playing in four parks across the Greater Toronto Area. This year, she’s expecting around 400 players. The league’s success inspired Bookman to launch all-girls leagues in Manitoba and Nova Scotia this year, each operating out of two separate locations.

The other day at the store Kendrick and I crossed paths with an elderly woman, probably mid 80's-90's, who stopped us with a sweet smile. She looked at Kendrick and says to me, "Now HE is a handsome, good looking boy. I might be partial because I had six...six *holding up six fingers and counting* girls myself. Now, I'm a diabetic so I carry this rather large bag of candy around with me and I like to share," turning to Kendrick she continues, "but before I give this candy to you, you must ask your mother because you never, NEVER take candy from a stranger unless you ask your mother first or it's a nice little old lady like me." She looked at me giggling with her hand up to her mouth to whisper, "I tell all the kids that." I nod in approval and Kendrick accepts. She says, "yes, these are delightful candies. Do you like chocolate darling?" Kendrick's eyes light up when he sees them, "YES! Santa put those in my stocking. I already have had them and they're pretty good." She goes on, "oh gooood! I will give you two then? Is two okay, Mom? He is such a sweet child. Yes...I love boys. Girls," tightening her lips and now talking to me through the corner of her mouth, "girls will drive you to drink." And all I could come up with is, "Oh I know...I am one." 🤦🏼‍♀️😂 It's just little moments like these that warm my soul and make the world appear more inviting. Thanks "nice little old lady." And don't worry, I ate one. Because paranoid mom brain/I want chocolate too/Kendrick offered anyway 🤷🏼‍♀️. #illgetpoisonedbeforeyoudo #noonegivesmechocolateforbeingcute #exploitchildrenforfreecandy #littlemoments #faithinhumanityrestored #connection #kindness #theresbeautyeverywhere

Now lately I’ve been seeing a lot of social media positively supporting the fluffier, and in all honesty, average male in today’s society. And that’s awesome! I’ve been fit with with a six pack and I am now a bit more padded as you can see from the photo above. Girls come in all sizes, so do the boys. And they all deserve love! But that is not the point if this post. The upper right photo is of Calum Von Moger; an Australian WFF Pro bodybuilder, former Mr Universe (2014), and cast to play the lead in the upcoming biographical film about Arnold Schwarzenegger. I’ve been following his journey for quite some time now and idolize not only his physique but also his work ethic. Now...it’s awesome to see all of these posts celebrating the chubby guys...what’s not awesome is when people ask why I workout so often or why I plan my meals or why I take the supplements I do and I show them a picture of Cal; they shit on it! “Eww that’s gross!” “Yuck, that’s disgusting!” “That’s way too much...that’s excessive.” Hypocrites. You’re jumping on the bandwagon, cheering for the bigger men. But you’re ok with criticizing and demeaning somebody like Cal or who genuinely wants to look like him? Shame on you. I don’t come out and just tell people most of the time purely because of this reaction. And it’s not a purely aesthetic goal for me either. My family has a long history or obesity-related health issues so I am terrified of getting anywhere near there. The bottom right is a quote from the philosopher, Socrates...included for obvious reasons. So next time you ask about someone’s goals and they open up to you, do not shit on them. This has been a PSA. Good day. @calumvonmoger

I am incredibly inspired and grateful for the work being done by my partners at Operation Underground Railroad (@OURrescue). This extraordinary organization is made up of former C.I.A., FBI, and SEAL Team Six members who free children around the world from horrific conditions and capture their perpetrators. Found wandering the streets with two pugs , Gipsy the pug mix was brought to a local shelter. We were contacted by one of our volunteers about these three girls and made arrangements to take all of them into rescue. Gipsy was placed in a Foster home with six other dogs and was a bit shy and a loner at first. However once she came around, she was nothing short of a complete joy. She played with the young puppy and was elated to see her foster parents come home every day. She sat like a cat on top of the couch and encouraged belly rubs to continue by pawing her foster mom and dads hands. She had to undergo a surgery to see if she was spayed, which she was, and even in that recovery time did very well. We received the perfect application for her and were excited by how well she did with the boys and other dog in the home. She found the perfect spot a top their couch and we were not surprised that she has been a lovely fit in her new forever family. Her foster mom and dad will miss her but are excited to see her enjoying her happily ever after! 🎉🎉

Way outside of Hyderabad, India: another act of rebellion. during their harvesting season, the girls are asked to stay home from school to help with the crops, as the boys can continue to go to school and learn. they often miss more than half of the years’ schooling, and eventually drop out because they can’t keep up.
this girl, who was featured in my master’s thesis, was wearing her school uniform in rebellion to her father, who allowed her brother to go to school and made her stay home to help with the crops. through anger and tears, she told me she wore her uniform every day, in hopes that she wouldn’t become like the other women in her tribe. she wanted to be a doctor, so late at night when she was supposed to be sleeping, she would look at her brother’s books and homework, and try to study and understand what he was learning so she wouldn’t fall behind.
she laughed when she told me her father thought she was crazy because she would sing about numbers and history out in the fields, but it was how she would remember what she learned the night before.
👉🏼 i’m posting a total of (about) 10 pictures of girls going to school, or attempting to, inspired by a #HuffingtonPost article.
“Globally, 65 million girls are not in school. Out of the 774 million people who are illiterate around the world, two-thirds are women. There are 33 million fewer girls in primary school than boys. And education really does save lives: If every woman around the globe had a primary and secondary education, childhood deaths would be cut in half.”

You know how Jesus taught us to “Do to others as you would have them do to you”? Well, turns out, it’s kinda the Golden Rule of parenting, too, akin to:
.
Raise your kids to be the friends you want to have.
.
And as @troydsimons likes to define it, “A true friend is someone who makes you want to be and love more like Jesus,” friendship with our growing kids is not just about proximity, but purpose.
.
Especially when we’re traveling, especially out of country —we’re asked everywhere we go: “Six boys? Poor mama. Were you trying for a girl?”
.
The truth is, I always wondered if I’d have a few girls but that’s not why we have six sons. We have six kids because we grew crazy for the adventure of raising children and for the way #motherhoodissanctifying in the hardest, but best ways.
.
I love this crazy bunch. They make me laugh, they make me strong, they make me better. And traveling with them has been oh so good.
.
👉🏼 I’m reminded that motherhood isn’t a project, a checklist, a duty, or a finish line; it’s an investment that grows and changes both them AND me. And the best part? The real adventure goes with us...even as we return home now to our everyday ordinary.
.
Mamas, the investment starts at home, little by little, day by day. I’m #preachingtomyownheart as we return to routine and responsibilities: Like seedlings, don’t expect to see instant growth —if we get busy watering, weeding, working, and cultivating, we can leave all that we long and hope for in His hands. 🌱

laughing at their numb wrinkled fingers
In the time warp of the river
each small wave lapped up on the rocks meant another year passing for those who swam.
Leaving body's wrinkled and cold
in a few joyous hours,
a blissful illusion ignored by the young.
An old man sat watching, envious,
no longer needing the rivers sway
to be pale with chattering bones
on a warm afternoon. 'How wonderful it must be
half drunk and stoned
skin turning firm
once wrapped in cotton
and a sweet girls arms'
He looked to his hands
all shrivelled and numb;
hands that once held pretty faces
and his fathers missing beer.
That pulled his agile body across oyster shells and up bridge pillars,
and he and his friends would smirk
at their wrinkled up hands
not a care in the world,
certain their youth patiently waited on the bank;
a miracle overlooked for so many years.
Now, he sits dry the on the bank
not a toe in the water,
his hands remain as wrinkled and numb
as the flesh of the boys
in the rivers embrace..
for his youth had grown tired of waiting.

Hi, my name is Michele. ❤️ I’m a lover of excellent literature, classical music, the great outdoors, Colorado’s #rockymountains, and solid theology. 🌿

I am the wife of a good man—17 hard-earned years and counting!—and a #mom of six children (4 boys, 2 girls, ages 11 to 26). 🌿

Professionally, I write books (working on number 3!). I am a #communicationcoach and #contentconsultant (A.K.A. I help you craft and deliver EXCELLENT messages). And I lead a #mastermind of #womenwholead and #womeninbusiness. This last role might be the most fulfilling one to date. I absolutely love helping women lead well, exactly where they are. 🌿

But those are only the pretty things. And the pretty things only give you the barest picture of the real me. 🌿

I am also a three time #cancersurvivor, one time #divorcesurvivor, a parent of children from #trauma, and an everyday survivor of this often hard, hard life. Depression is often a struggle, as is chronic pain and fatigue. I daily deal with ongoing physical disabilities and challenges because of my extensive medical and life traumas, causing me wrestle with my faith more times than not. And yet I cling to it with everything I have. Because I know the only real hope in this world is the One with the name Jesus. 🌿

Over the last three years, I’ve fallen in love with the Gospel all over again. In a real sense, it is the only thing that anchors me. There is no other Good News that can compare, no other Truth that will last, no other joy that will stand up to real suffering. I make no apologies about what I believe. Or my flat-out desperation for it. 🌿

At the same time, you don’t have to share my belief to have my deep love and respect. We need each other, even if we don’t agree. And I promise to do whatever I can to be one more person in your corner, loving you without condition, especially in your #undone places. Because, from my experience, the only way to press on and walk out our complex stories is to do #thisundonelifetogether. 🌿

Okay. Enough about me. I want to hear about YOU. I’m so glad you’re here. ❤️
