Picture on the right was clicked last night. I've gained 8lbs in this transformation, most of which is muscle and a little bit of water. I see people buying these 'skinny teas' or weight loss product like a juice drink or food packages which people take to lose fat and they will show results of using it saying it works to lose weight fast or in a week. I'm not saying don't buy them (kind of am saying that lol) but fat loss can only occur in a calorie deficit, don't resort to these bs ideas of getting in shape fast or in a week that's not how it works. You want to do it at a controlled pace so that you're body is losing fat effectively and safe. All these products are doing is making you think you're losing weight from them but it's because you're in a deficit, spend your money on quality food, get your nutrients in and have a good lifestyle with food, 100% you'll feel better and look better. My self-esteem has improved a lot in the past 2 years. One thing that bothers me a bit is when people say “you’re too skinny! You need to eat more”, “a cookie won’t hurt you”, “you don’t need to go to the gym. You look fine”, “you don’t need to lose any more weight”, and etc. Some people don’t realize what they’re saying & I want to make you guys more aware of the situation. Most people, including myself, go to the gym to stay fit and healthy. Most of us track our macros so we make sure we’re hitting them. Most of us don’t eat straight sugar or processed food because we may have a goal we’re trying to hit or simply can’t eat it because we know we’ll feel crappy. For me, I can have a very small amount of something every once in awhile but that’s it. I may have a day where I’ll let go a bit but I make sure I don’t go overboard. If I don’t accept food you offer it’s not because I’m trying to “lose weight” it’s because I may have a goal I’m trying to hit, I don’t want it, or can’t have it because I know I’ll feel crappy. I can guarantee you I am eating. I am healthy. I go to the gym to stay fit, healthy, & gain muscle. Not to lose weight. Sure, my body fat % will go down and I may lose a few pounds but my goal is not trying to lose weight. I want to drop the body fat % & look more toned while also gaining muscle so if I lose 5 pounds then I lose 5 more pounds. I know the 5 pounds I lose will be body fat, not muscle or anything else. I don’t care about the number on the scale. I know I am eating healthy, I am fit, gaining muscle, & getting the nutrition I need so I know I’m good. I appreciate it when people congratulate me, compliment me, & give me advice anything fitness & health related. I finally got my freedom when I started working out (weight training). I built my thighs and when they got bigger, it made my calves look smaller and look perfect in my eyes. I'm so glad that I never did anything to my calves.

If you feel uncomfortable in your own skin, either you are too fat, too skinny, got no curves, you can change all that with exercises.

Even when I first learned how to count macros I abused it. I ate junk because it fit my “numbers” Then wonder why I felt like complete crap with low energy which left me half assing workouts.

Ladies, do not be scared to eat. Our bodies need food for fuel. If you’re looking get toned and lean...you have got to eat. Doing endless hours of cardio and eating like a bird will get you absolutely nowhere but skinny fat. Pick up the weights, eat a well balanced diet, have yourself some wine occasionally, and live your life. I promise you won’t get bulky!

I think it's human nature to blame the 1 thing we don't have/covet on not being happy. A broke person thinks money will make them happy, a fat person thinks being skinny will make them happy and short person thinks being tall will make them happy.

Of course this isn't true... rich people are unhappy, tall people are and thin people are. -
Confidence doesn't come from being any of these things - there might be a surface level of bravado, especially with those that have been born like that, but it's not real. -
They are just as insecure, unsure and troubled as you are!

When I see a client's confidence starting to grow it's because of the work they put in to create the change - not so much the change itself.

"I have the confidence in the fact I know the right technique to walk into the gym"

#motivationmonday oh my!🙈progress pics can be so hard to put out there!!! But I figure, if this helps motivate and encourage one person, it's worth it, right?! In the first pic, (I'm sucking in), I was eating relatively "healthy", minimal protein, mostly plant based diet, and doing tons of cardio, skinny fat, flat booty and bloated 24/7. In the second pic, I'm eating a wholesome diet of high lean protein, healthy fats, and healthy carbs. I'm looking at my macros and lifting weights- minimal cardio. Ive recently introduced a lot of hiit and @fitcamp180 and I've seen positive results from that as well. If you're struggling, don't give up! Take your health and fitness into your own hands, do a little research and then DO! Get moving! Meal prep! My results were slow because it's been a journey of finding what works for my body. But once I found the right resources (my trainer @fassiofit and I was *educated👉🏼👉🏼 #bosstobikini (@bikinibosstheresa) go order this book!!!!, results came quick and I'm more confident in my own ability to love and transform my body. 💗💪🏼 #workinprogress still a ways to go, but it's good to keep crushing goals and move on to the next. 🤗stay motivated friends, take control and crush those goals!

A lot of us struggle with in varied forms and women especially are held to certain societal ideals from a very young age. I’ve never been skinny a damn day in my life, and it took me a bad breakup and a revelation at age 23 to realise that I enjoy food way too much to count every crumb that passes through my lips. Power and props to people who have that discipline because I sure as hell don’t. What makes me sad is that the presence of fat, and being fat is such a dirty word. Being fat is one of the worst things that someone can be, and it’s used as a weaponised verbal insult to hurt other people. People who don’t fit the BMI ideal and demonised for loving their bodies. Unless you are someone’s doctor, you do not get to make the call about someone’s health based on their appearance. All bodies are good bodies and even if someone is making choices you consider poor, it’s not your body and not your damn place. Health is not the pinnacle of human achievement, and it never will be for people like me and lots of others who didn’t win a genetic lottery. Good health is a pipe dream to us. It’s a complex topic. We need to let people take care of themselves however they like. To some it maybe a workout and to others it might be a treat. Self love is important and we don’t get to dictate how others love themselves.
Anyway rant over. For those who asked me this before — my skin is smooth because I take good care of it. I don’t wear makeup every day, I cleanse it, drink well over 4L of water a day and I moisturise. I only use good quality foundation and I will never go to bed with makeup on. It’s part of my self care routine. What do you guys do as a part of yours?

2011 - 2013 (15 y.o)- ATTENTION TO ALL MY SKINNY GIRLS OUT THERE THAT EAT LIKE GROWN MEN🗣: Enjoy your fast metabolism while you still have it! With age, time, and an unhealthy lifestyle your metabolism slows and in a blink of an eye, you can’t fit any of the clothes in your closet. The right pic. was when I started cheering in HS. I was pretty active. BC had my body filling out in all the right places. I worked at McDonald’s, ate like a PIG, and could buy clothes without trying them on lol 😭 Exercise : only at practice SWIPE⬅️
2014-2015 (18 y.o)-So much change in a year! Freshman 15 is a real thing😅. My self-confidence and health were at all times lows. I barely ate but only ate junk food. I tried the gym, quit then tried just about every quick fix fat loss method under the sun! SWIPE⬅️
2016-2017 (21 y.o)- FAST FORWARD ⏭ to rock bottom😭. I was unhealthy and unhappy in every aspect. I had zero drive for anything. With the strength from within and the help of my amazing boyfriend who teaches me daily that I’m capable of anything (Thank you peanut ❤️), i decided it was time to change my life. Exercise: 2-3 times a week, inconsistently SWIPE⬅️
2018 (22 y.o)-I CAME A LONG WAY. Patience and consistency have been 🔑. I now work out 7 days a week, 1:30-2 hour sessions bc I truly enjoy it (and also because I’m making SLOW diet changes lol).
Exercise has benefited my life physically AND mentally. I now know that if i can push myself through work outs, improve/learn/grow in the gym i can do anything i put my mind to in all aspects! When i tell you.. IF I CAN DO IT.. you can do it, i mean that. For all shapes and sizes, loving yourself is important but your health is essential! No. No. No. I immediately caught myself getting sucked in. Its truly disgusting how the beauty industry preys on our insecurities. As women we’ve been conditioned our entire lives to feel the need to live up to impossible beauty standards. They created the blueprint of western “beauty” to intentionally make us feel like we’re aren’t pretty enough, or skinny enough, or curvy enough, or just that we aren’t “enough” in general. The reality is, we are all perfect just the way we are. No one has the right to tell you how you should look. No company has the right to dictate what constitutes beautiful. Human beings are a rich tapestry of every conceivable type of beauty. There is no one mold that anyone should feel obliged to fit within. I know first hand how hard it is to maintain your sense of self when you’re constantly being bombarded with other people’s ideas of how you should look. We owe it to ourselves to love who we are, despite what the world tries to tell us. In this day and age radical self-love is one of the most important relationships you can have.

If you’re too skinny; apparently you either starve yourself or have some eating disorder, right? No... it’s just how messed up it is these days. I ONLY EAT food that are worth the sins, like really really gooddd durians, droolworthy cakes, neverending supply of delicious nastar and many more. Also, 99% of the time, I don’t drink drinks with additional sugar, keep it as natural as possible, mostly mineral water & freshly squeezed juices.

And of course, EXERCISE enough ❤️ My tips is to pick types of exercise that you love doing so you don’t get sick of it too soon & end up getting FAT again just because “I don’t feel like doing it anymoreee” (I’m speaking out of personal experience, of course.) For me, I’ve found my passion in DANCING. What’s yours?

PS: Your “feel-fit weight” is what you feel most comfortable with, not what society determines for you. If you are a woman who feels fit & sexy at 60 kgs, then don’t let others make you feel ‘inadequate’. BUT, do make sure you’re healthy regardless of any weight you are at. I’m never saying 49 kgs is an ideal weight, but it’s the weight I feel most comfortable with, PERSONALLY. Some say I’m too skinny, but I am still keeping 49 as my ‘favourite number’ for now.

First pic I was a whopping 98 pounds and thought I was fat. I would write everything down that I ate. Never had more then 20 grams of fat and did hours of cardio

2nd pic I was 26 or 27 and 140 pounds and not healthy. Lots of alcohol and the discovery of California burritos.

Last pic was last weekend 38 years old and about 131 pounds. Into my 6th year of competing and finally comfortable in my own skin.
And I look better and younger then I did in my 20s. So I would have to say fitness is the #fountainofyouth

I guess that enough to say that I’m happy AND I’m gonna be happy tomorrow because this is me and who I want to be.
I work on myself everyday to see the light and find peace for myself, my 2 kids, my husband, family friends , patients and for the ones i don’t fit in!! Voila!” .

Well..... I lasted a week... yes 1 week on plan before straying, stepping over the line and then that line pretty much got trampled on when I had a wedding in Rome, Italy 🇮🇹🤦🏼‍♂️

I didn’t really get things back on track until about a week before heading to LA.

Thankfully, being in LA, living under the same roof as the girls, getting up for morning cardio every day, cleaning up my nutriton and destroying @leepage_envigormedia as well as myself with some narcissistic volume sessions at @goldsgym ‘The Mecca’ and generally living that peak week like, I managed to make some fairly quick progress!

5kg difference between these two images but most importantly, my training intensity has increased week by week, my Lifts are getting close to my all time best and I feel fairly happy about my current condition..... still can’t fit into my skinny jeans though 😂

Lol working 7 days ... Starbucks on Prep?? 🤔💚☕️ - -

Okay so most of you don’t know this but about a year ago I had an accidental caffeine overdose (from espresso) & wound up in the hospital🤦🏻‍♀️🤷🏻‍♀️ Anywhoooo needless to say I completely stopped drinking coffee cold turkey.. up until recently. Lol working 7 days a week, getting up at 5am every day and being on prep at the same time isn’t easy. So a couple months ago I brought it back into my life☕️ And oh how I missed it💚 I’m careful though & limit myself to only once a day. (Don’t ever wanna experience that again🙄) But being on prep of course I’m not going to waste 60g of carbs getting a “normal” or whatever you wanna call it, coffee.

So here are my usual two orders ~ 🔥hot if it’s rainy or cold in the morning & ❄️iced if I’m sweaty & hot & gross 💁🏻‍♀️ _

1. 💚Grande hot🔥 latté with unsweetened almond milk (ask for unsweetened. Most SB have it) & 2 pumps sf vanilla ~ 40 calories 2.5F/3C/1P. The sf Vanilla syrup has zero calories. The fat is from the almond milk.

2. 💚Grande iced❄️ latté with unsweetened almond milk (again, ask for unsweetened) & 2 pumps skinny mocha sauce ~ 50 calories 2.5F/5C/1P. This usually satisfies my chocolate cravings🍫😬 _

So I get lattes because regular coffee or cold brew doesn’t really do anything for me🙄 I need the strength of espresso lmao😅. Now the skinny mocha has 5 calories & 1 carb per pump vs the vanilla with zero calories but I opt for the mocha sometimes when I’m realllyyyy craving chocolate & think it’s not the end of the world to sacrifice 2 carbs. When I’m closer to my show however I won’t🙈☹️ _

Besides the obvious difference of a physically leaner, lack of belly skin, & sexy orange glow self— there is a huge psychological difference in these two photos. On the left, I hated food because it “made me fat”, hated my shape because it wasn’t skinny enough or had the perfect hip to waist ratio, I was bulimic at times & went into kidney failure twice due to extreme diet and volume depletion (drank a gallon + of water per day), worked out for 4-5 hours a day to be seen as ideal and perfect to everyone else but was insecure about who I was. My value was based solely on my looks.
On the right, I eat to be healthy but not to restrict my body or to be skinny/lean. I workout in ways that feel good on my body and mind but take a week off here & there. I’ve have found strength in my spirit, my body, & my mind & don’t measure it by how much I can lift. My life has improved drastically because my focus isn’t purely on me but how I can serve God to be better for all. Now this isn’t about oh which one do I look better in or to say competitors are narcissistic unhappy people but to show you looks don’t equate happy. I have a new first place trophy now and those two little people I’ve been blessed to “win” are the best things ever..my value now is based on who I am on the inside and sharing that because looks are fleeting and it won’t be enough for who I am now.

So long as you’ve got enough size to play with, losing body fat will cause you to look more muscular. Just make sure you’ve gained enough muscle mass in a Calorie Surplus, before dropping into a Deficit. 👍🏻 Dropping into a calorie deficit prematurely, could result in you looking skinny not strong! ❌

This is why I often advise beginners (with relatively low body fat levels) to focus on building muscle before losing fat. 💪🏼

Anyway, the fat loss process is much easier than muscle building. Make sure to spend the majority of your year building muscle, and only worry about losing fat for something comes up. Example: wedding, holiday, photo-shoot, birthday, etc. 📆

🍗weight loss is not a special event. It takes time, effort and energy. You won’t wake up skinny, you’ll look back one day and think “fuck I’ve come far!”
🥓Can you really expect changes if you haven’t changed anything about your diet or exercise? No. And if you have yo-yo dieted in the past, stop being an idiot. You’ve proven to yourself that that shit doesn’t work. Skinny bunny detox teas, weight loss lollipops and restricting yourself to flavourless and boring foods over a prolonged period of time don’t work and frankly, they turn you into a bit of a hangry bitch. 🍖And talking of change... don’t expect to wake up one morning and feel sexy AF if your mindset hasn’t changed either. Changing your diet and exercise is one thing but you won’t SEE these changes in your body unless you change your 🧠 and the way you see yourself now. 🥩so instead of focussing on the tiny glitches in the number on the scales and abusing yourself for all the mistakes you’ve made in the past:

Does this mean, for you, that you will start counting calories, work on portion control, watch your fat, watch your carbs, get in that hour of cardio everyday and refuse to eat out because it will mess everything up (OMG, the bread basket)? It's NOT about finally having the willpower to live a fit life...it's about these 3 things ~Knowing the right diet for YOU. It is as individual as your fingerprint. Just because your co-worker lost weight on the "2 Hour Lifetime Diet Plan" doesn't mean it will work for you.
~Being honest with yourself and how you live your life. If you're a germaphobe...will you REALLY be able to go to the gym long term?
~Check out your "Circle." If you wanted to quit smoking, would you really hang out everyday with your friends that indeed smoke in front of you? Surround yourself with healthy seeking friends.

Don't think you need to be on a Keto or Paleo Diet while hitting the gym 6 days a week to have tremendous results. Remember there ARE options: ~Start with a Nutritionally sound Cleanse or Detox. They ARE out there but be careful. This sets your body back into it's healthiest state so it CAN react. Be real, if you've done damaging things to get "skinny," you need to wipe the slate clean before you can make any positive changes.
~Workout at home. All you need is 30 minutes a day, honest. Driving to the gym and taking an hour class kills atleast 2 hours of your day...unnecessary!
~Eat a ton of salad. Raw food is BEST for you. Stuff it with healthy fats, lots of veggies and an organic protein.
~DO NOT be afraid of a little saturated and monounsaturated fat...steer clear of polyunsaturated fat (don't ask me, Google it).
~Take advice from a 44 year old brick sh!thouse and drink Shakeology. It takes the guesswork out of dense nutrition. Until you've put it in your system for a month, you'll NEVER understand it's power! You just have to trust someone who is proof in the pudding!

One of the most important aspects people fail to grasp, is maintenance. What's it look like? How does someone do it?
Every fitness account, every fitness magazine or advertisement monetizes around the concept of fat loss or weight loss.

Humans are very habitual - it's a double edge sword.
We become so efficient in our routine, which is good..but we're easily "thrown" off when our routine is altered in any way.
Why that's important is because anyone involved in fat loss, gets embedded with the constant emphasis & routine habits of fat loss.
Low fat, low sugar, order the salad, request no oils or butters, sauce on the side, tips and tricks to reduce total calories, dietary hacks to assist with low calories...
That constant engrained thought process that low calorie = healthy.

Society is entirely competent at losing weight.
We don't have a weight loss problem, we have a weight management problem.
Along with the those engrained aforementioned actions, comes restrictions - & as I always state, physiology is a pendulum, the harder you push/restrict one way, the pendulum comes swinging back the other in an equal manner. 🏴
We need to learn what maintenance is, & what it looks like.
It's not about finishing every training session with 40 minutes of cardio, it's not about choosing the low cal option all the time, it's not about always being robotically precise with your macros, it's not about always choosing fitness over social events.
It becomes an entirely altered concept.
Work with your metabolism & set point, not against it.
You can maintain a lean composition if you go about it properly, but properly isn't continual "fat" loss thought processes & application.
It's so much more fun & enjoyable than that!
Get lean, stay lean, live lean!

So I’m not gonna lie I’ve been at a weird stage in my fitness where I’ve been doubting myself, my progress, the route I chose with my body. No matter how many of you cheer me on and admire what I’ve done with it⌛️ i would get uncomfortable when people told me I looked good. When I would get comments saying people wanted to have my body, I got embarrassed and I didn’t believe it. I started admiring men for being skinny and thin, and started wishing that I didn’t have my big chest, shoulders, and especially legs. I started looking for ways to get rid of my size, started doing cardio and no weights. Started telling people I wasn’t gonna lift anymore just because I wanted to look like the perfect image that I’ll never be to some people. But then I woke up this morning, looked at myself in the mirror for at least 30 mins and got emotional. Because I finally realized that I don’t want to change myself to fit in. I don’t want to feel beautiful for anyone else. I had to remind myself about how many hours I put in the gym, how much struggle I went through to push heavier weight, how many blisters I had on my hands, and I can’t believe that I allowed myself to forget. I’m happy with my body and I have worked damn hard for every inch of it. I guess my point is don’t get obsessed with trying to be perfect, and if you’ve been working hard, give yourself a pat on the back because you deserve it.

I gained a whopping 70 lbs with my pregnancies and my body was a wreck and so was my SELF CONFIDENCE!!! .
I was frustrated, tired, and always grumpy and legit nothing in my closet ever fit!! .
Then one day I DREW A LINE IN THE SAND!! I saw my coach online and she had a body like me, she had two kids like me and she had an amazing transformation. I could seriously feel the positivity coming from her through the computer screen!!! .
So I decided to take the leap of faith and join her online support group!! ✌🏻 it was a Godsend 🙏🏻 because my life had never quite been the same. .

I always tell my trainees: All it takes is consistent tracking, regular workouts, and to lay off the beer a bit. I'm gonna prove it once again that there's no magic to it. Just the discipline to say "no" more often than not. To meal plan and prep on Sundays instead drinking mimosas all day.

Don’t think you have to starve yourself because you want to be “fit and go to the gym”.
You HAVE to FUEL your body! And going to the gym consistently means burning more calories. So that means More food? Yas;)) unless the goal is to lose weight of course. -
i went 5-6 times a week, for legs 2-3 times a week, upper body also 2-3 x’s a week. -
Slowly i changed my eating habits to be more nutritious, i mean come’on i was eating chips for dinner, sugar cereal for breakfast and fries for lunch EVERYDAY. (i said that all backwards haha) but my habits were NOT GOOD AT ALL.

I workout roughly 3-4 times a week depending how busy my schedule is and how motivated I’m feeling. I don’t do much cardi-no because it blows lol and prefer to do weights. If I do any cardio it’s usually when Hamish and I find beautiful scenic walks to go on or I’ll do HIIT at the gym.
I eat a balanced diet of trying to meet my macros daily but treating myself. I love chocolate and ice cream way too much to ever give them up 🍫🍦🍩
I’m 5ft, naturally very petite and what you would call skinny fat. So I don’t gain weight easily but I’m a little bit squishy and soft. I’m currently working towards toning up, getting leaner and building muscle while not depriving myself of the foods I love.
The reason I’m sharing this is because it’s so important to realise you guys only see a small snippet of what we choose to share with you. I know personally I don’t want to wake up, hop on Instagram and see something depressing. It just ruins my mood for the day. I love seeing lifestyle ideals because it inspires me to work on my own goals. Which is why we generally share our best and happiest moments.
We’re still human. We still feel shit and down at times. We’re all just trying to feel the best about ourselves that we possibly can.
Don’t let Instagram photos discourage you. Let them inspire you.
Instead of thinking about how you want your body to look, think about what you want your body to do.
I want to be toned and fit not solely because of how it looks but because of how it makes me feel. I want to feel strong and light on my feet. I want to lift heavier weights. I want to feel energetic and be just overall healthier. I want my body to perform at the best of its ability and most of all I want to live a long healthy life.
But I also want to enjoy eating a mars bar and watch a little Netflix, which is exactly what I did last night and let me tell you.. it was a bloody good mars bar.
Don’t get too caught up in Instagram photos and do one thing today to challenge yourself and then go eat your mars bar 🌿

Visceral fat is the most concerning of the two since it crowds the organs preventing them from functioning normally and puts them under great strain. Having some visceral fat is important in cushioning your organs in absorbing shock, but when you have too much it can be life threatening and should be taken seriously.

Some people think being skinny and not exercising is good enough. Calorie restricting, excessive cardio and no strength training can lead these people to what we refer to as “skinny fat”. High fat percentage vs muscle ratio, lacking muscle tone and a whole host of health issues. On the outside they look slim but on the inside they are suffering.

Organs have movement as well which we refer to as mobility and motility. Mobility is the movement of the organ sliding and shifting as we move our bodies. Motility is the natural intrinsic active motion of the organs such as the heart expanding and contracting and moving in 3D. With excessive visceral fat it prevents these two types of motions.

Visceral fat also restricts organ blood supply and can make it difficult for you to breath since it can crowd your diaphragm as well. Other health issues are increased risk of cardiovascular disease, high cholesterol, type 2 diabetes etc..

Whether you are overweight or “skinny fat”, changing ones diet is important but it is not enough. You need to strength train to change your body’s composition.

There have been periods where I’ve weighed myself obsessively - like 3x a day - disappointed every time because l thought l should be somewhere in the 120s. But l just weighed myself for the first time in a week and felt nothing. Wasn’t surprised, disappointed, or excited. It was just a meaningless number and l moved on with my day.

Weight can be a good data point, but sometimes it needs to be very low on your priority list for the sake of your own sanity. I’d rather go for a look than a number. I’m doing this little cut just to pull off a bit of fluff (back to it now after a weekend of shenanigans) and l won’t be relying on the scale much at all. When I’m pleased with my results, I’ll be good. Who knows how much I’ll weigh and who cares 🤷🏼‍♀️

Next- Got sick of hip fat, started running more and doing exercises to 'tone'. Lost alot of fat, which revealed I had no muscle! Looked liked a plank lol. Look how tiny my bum and legs were!! And like no shape 😂

Right- started lifting heavy, realised weights weren't gonna make me a she-hulk. This changed my outlook on what I considered was 'hot' on a woman (muscles 😍). I started to train legs. Took pics and realised that my left glute (dominant leg) was way bigger then my right. You can just see it coz of the crap photo quality but it was very obvious. Concentrated isolating right glute to align with left. Then heavy compound exercises.

Far right- This year. Legs have more shape, glutes bigger, more full. Just fyi the bikini bottoms in the 2nd pic only come half way up my bum now 😂

To do that then you MUST also put a high importance on your total macros.
🔻Stop wasting your time. If you can’t get lean or in shape you’re just lazy or don’t actually want to.
❗️Here are some basic things to keep in mind.
🔸Calculate your daily caloric maintenance.
🔹Set up your diet somewhere below that number.
🔸Hit you macros to make sure you maximize fat loss and keep all your muscle. (If you care about looking good)
🔹Add some cardio if needed.
🔸Train hard.
🔹Follow it and be consistent for a weeks/months until you reach your goal.

Years ago, someone, who has what most women would point to as the perfect body, brought up the idea of being “body positive.” She said it was an excuse for being fat and lazy. Those words felt cruel. I remember thinking “easy for you, your genetics gave you a body which you use to make money and everyone affirms you constantly,” but I admired her and wasn’t nearly as visibly fit as she was so she must be right. That familiar wash of shame moved in so quickly that I didn’t have time to pluck out the lies before they solidified inside my head.

That’s how it works, isn’t it? If we aren’t careful, the judgements of others pour in fast, cementing our shame in place, and framing everything we see from a space of unworthiness. I spent years looking in the mirror and seeing the things which make me unique as evidence for a supposed laziness.

I hadn’t realized the power of that old conversation until one day when I was sitting feeling broken and empowered, shovel in hand, frantically picking away at those cemented lies which were stealing my life: “healthy women are skinny”, “yoga teachers are skinny”, “fat is lazy”, “other bodies are not okay,” “picking apart other women’s bodies is acceptable.”

Today, I reject those false narratives. I embrace who I am as I am. I embrace who you are as you are. I am thankful for this struggle for self-acceptable which has built in me a deep compassion to make sure that every woman I come across, including myself, feels loved, whole, and accepted just as they are.

No matter what I tried (working out, changing eating habits, etc.), every time I got tested at @fitfax I was always still a C curve. Which ... No matter what I tried (working out, changing eating habits, etc.), every time I got tested at @fitfax I was always still a C curve. Which meant that, despite maybe gaining some muscle and dropping some body fat or weight, I was still what is classified as “skinny fat”, with my weight and body fat being way higher numbers than my skeletal muscle mass. I got tested back in June, the week I decided to start going back to @nerdstronggym, and in 2.5 months I finally bumped up that skeletal muscle mass! Not only that, but I dropped almost 4% in body fat since June 😱

What finally did it for me? WEIGHTS, BABY. In addition to their Foundation classes, I started going to Nerdstrong’s weights-focused classes 3 times a week. It’s all about that strength training!!! 💪 I’ve also been following somewhat relaxed LCHF eating habits: I generally consume less than 40 net carbs a day and aim for 70% fat on my macros, but I hella enjoy a treat day once a week 🍕🍦🍟

Being “skinny looking” IS NOT the same as being healthy. Nor is an arbitrary number on a basic scale an indicator of health. That number is literally garbage if you don’t know what it means!!! My weight is the same but I’m stronger. My weight is the same, but my clothes fit better. My weight is the same, but I’m more confident about my body. My weight doesn’t tell me if I’m healthy. My body fat and muscle mass numbers do. 💗💗💗

🤯For so long, I focused on the wrong thing. I wasn’t tuned into my diet, I was doing boatloads of cardio, not lifting weights, drinking skinny teas and taking fat burners. If it said “lose weight fast”, I probably tried it!

🖐🏼Fast forward five years... and lots of mistakes later, I created this little pyramid for you guys so you know what to focus on when you are trying to tone up and lose fat.
⠀⠀⠀
⚠️Here’s the golden pyramid of fat loss for you guys! ⠀⠀⠀
1️⃣Calorie Deficit: Eating less calories than your body needs is the only way to lose fat!
⠀⠀⠀
2️⃣Eat Enough Protein: to maintain muscle mass, to recover from workouts, to keep you full and satiated when you’re dieting and so you get toned aka you don’t turn “skinny fat”
⠀⠀⠀
3️⃣Lift Weights: 2-5x a week! (usually 3-4 is a sweet spot for most people) don’t be afraid to go heavy, it WON’T make you bulky unless you eat too many calories
⠀⠀⠀
4️⃣Sleep: 7-9 hours a night to recover, rest and keep your hunger levels in check. when you don’t sleep enough, your body will be hungrier. so get those Zzzs!
⠀⠀⠀
5️⃣Cardio, Movement, and 10k steps/day. Finding active hobbies you enjoy will keep you consistent and make it a lot more fun.

☝🏼Find what works for you, your lifestyle, habits, and preferences. Focus on the BIG stuff and don’t let the little things distract you from the big picture.

Growing up I always felt pressure to be thin. I switched high schools 3 times, which meant I was always the “new girl” and needed to fit in with different friend groups. I was tall and awkward, but at least I could control one thing: my weight.⁣⁣

Then came college — a blur of solo cups and American Apparel body-con dresses. From the get-go, we are taught to fear things like “the freshman 15”. I constantly compared myself to other girls and thought I had to be skinny for guys to like me. I lived on Starbucks during the day, binged on pizza at night, did a ton of cardio, and stopped getting my period. Instead of being freaked out, I felt validated, like all of my hard work was paying off.⁣⁣
⁣⁣
Fast forward to post-college.. I was becoming more comfortable with myself and stopped obsessing, but would yo-yo diet whenever I felt like I was getting too “fat”. My last year or so in NYC, I had an amazing but stressful job. I traveled a ton, worked late hours, drank A LOT of wine, and would eat whatever was convenient...🍷🥐🍔🍟🍕⁣⁣
⁣⁣
When I made the move to Cali, I was self-conscious. Everyone in LA wasn’t just skinny.. but FIT. Meanwhile, I was exhausted, suffering with stomach/GI issues, and couldn’t remember the last time I had seen a gym. It was definitely time to make some serious changes. That meant not starving myself down to fit into my college skinny jeans, but eating right and making time to get into a proper fitness routine.⁣⁣
⁣⁣
In the last year, I finally discovered what my body needed and what I had neglected for so long: prioritizing being HEALTHY instead of skinny. Ironically, my college skinny jeans are loose now, but I’m physically + mentally so much stronger. I work out 4x a week and changed my eating habits and views on food completely. I sleep better, I feel better, my skin is clearer.. it’s amazing how your body thanks you when you finally take care of it the right way.⁣⁣

I wrote all this to say — If you struggle with body image issues you aren’t alone. Anyone can post a cute bikini pic, but it’s important for us to shed light on this topic and the fact that we need to learn to love + care for our bodies more. x

Are you skinny fat? First, let me define skinny fat as someone who is not overweight but has very little muscle mass and a decently high body fat percentage which results in looking skinny in clothes but not very lean without them.

If you are just starting out and haven’t taken advantage of your noob gains yet, I recommend eating in a slight caloric deficit while following a solid beginner program geared towards gaining strength. Due to beginner gains, you will actually be able to reduce fat while building muscle at the same time. When you are just starting out and haven’t trained before, you have a unique opportunity to gain muscle while losing fat and should take advantage of it. Most people who are skinny fat fit into this category.

If you have been lifting for a while, you really shouldn’t be skinny fat since you should have put on a decent amount of muscle at that point. You might just be fat and in that case, you should cut. However, some people are in an between stage and are unsure of what to do. You probably won’t be able to gain muscle while reducing fat at this stage so you need to decide which is more important to you. You can cut a bit first to get to a lower body fat percentage despite having minimal muscle and from there you can attempt to gain weight slowly while maintaining that level of leanness. Alternatively, if being lean isn’t a priority, you can go on a slow bulk and focus on adding muscle with the plan to cut down later.

Ultimately, it comes down to your personal comfort level with your body and your goals. No one can decide what to do for you and only you live with the decision. However, if you already feel uncomfortable with how much fat you’re carrying, it’s probably best to cut regardless of muscle mass or lack of it.

I began my #wheelchairbeauty movement to show the public women in wheelchairs are beautiful. I am excluded and ignored by many when I leave my house from disabled parking bays being obstructed from drivers who dont display blue badges, from chevron markings being blocked means i can't open my doors to get in and out of my car ( disabled bays with chevron markings are for #wheelchairs ) , from dropped down kerbs blocked and lack of, from shops companies not have wheelchair access entrances and no disabled toilets, from establishments who use their #disabled toilets and disabled changing rooms as storage, from restaurants who refuse to accommodate me cos I'm in wheelchair,from public transport refusing me on their buses/trains cos I'm in wheelchair , from people who belittle me and say I should be dead than be alive because I use wheelchair, from people who tell me I'm not #beautiful and the list goes on. Sharing my vulnerabilities takes alot of courage for me to post because I see the weight I've gained and made to believe im #fat and #ugly took years of not loving myself and hurting myself. Now i seemy body as #strength #love , I see my body as not a burden but as motivation to want to be better and keep achieving, I see my body as years of #knowledge and experience of #believing I am more than what I was told I could be. We’re all at different points in our fitness journey. I receive comments and messages all the time about people just starting out and I have kept in touch with fit friends I’ve made along the way. I’ve gone from being average to over weight to skinny fat to extremely muscular and lean and back to a bit better than my beginning average. That’s a long journey. One thing I’ve realized is that I’m never really happy with the current status that I’m at. Today, a lady just a bit older than me complimented me in the gym and it made me realize something I already knew and have told people often.... YOU are somebody’s inspiration. YOU are somebody’s fit goal. YOU are more than you think you are. So, next time you’re down on yourself, just remember, you’re probably inspiring someone so keep on moving forward and take a moment to be present and appreciate where you are right now.

My medical side, I worked in critical care as a full time RT really kept me active. Shoot, I wore compression socks and drank a gallon of water while on my feet running to each patients room in the heart of winter. Everyone was concerned for me and looked out for me. I took 2 trips to Labor and Delivery for premature contractions. 28 weeks, then 33 weeks. Crying and scared, my fellow team of pediatric RTs and RNs cared for me. Afraid both times, I would have a preterm baby in in the hospital I worked at... great team, but it was a fear of mine. 😢 I was sad because I felt like it was due to me gaining so much weight. Then, at 37 weeks exactly Abby was born. .

Food is a huge part of our life! We wake up thinking about it and throughout the day WE ARE STILL THINKING ABOUT IT! The smell, taste, and even the look of food lol it’s consuming! Hell yes , I still get cravings, I indulge in my favorite meals but it’s not my everyday practice! .

Some say, it’s easy for you to be healthy now because you’ve always been LITTLE, SMALL, SKINNY, blah blah, 🤦🏽‍♀️ lol My body was SKINNY FAT! And that my friends is an UNHEALTHY body. You can’t possibly lose weight, gain muscle and have a fit body with AN UNHEALTHY BODY! Trust me, I struggled for some time but I figured it out and here I am. It’s possible ! It doesn’t matter the goal you have. Becoming healthier will get you to those goals ! And help you KEEP those results!

But today was different. I got out of the shower just a few minutes ago.....It’s Saturday, so the baby and I have a special morning together on Saturdays and my husband sleeps in. I didn’t want to go downstairs to our room and wake him up by going through the underwear drawer, so without a whole lot of thought, I decided to get into my “goal clothes “drawer in my office
I bought this bra after Kristian died.
I had packed on 40lbs and there was no way I’d be in my “before” bras.
So I went to my favorite underwear store to cheer me up a little.
The largest size they carry is a 38DDD
It fit perfectly and I left the store with my girls cushioned and satisfied.
I didn’t wear the bra for long.
Got pregnant again and packed on tons of pounds after baby (so I can’t even blame prego pounds). I knew I’d never get in my fancy bras again. I was sure of it. And no, it didn’t matter to anyone except me as it’s only myself and my hubby that see them.
But I WANTED it for me.
This morning I figured what the heck, try it on....
Yes, you can still see ripply belly and chunk under my towel. Thick arms and fat to lose.
But I’m in my fancy bra.
And it fits. And it feels great.
Instead of giving any credit to the scale on the floor, I shoot it a middle finger as I go on with my day.
You are worth more than a number.
Take care of your body because it loves you and wants to work for you.
And because it’s so very forgiving

I have always enjoyed beauty. Even more, I have always had the passion to make things look beautiful. To take something ordinary and dress it to make it look stunning. Also, from the very beginning, I found men’s fashion to be staid, stuck-up and plain. Compared to women, men’s wardrobes are blatantly bland and downright boring. I always wanted to do something to crease out this conformity from men’s wardrobes. This, coupled with the fact that as I grew up, I turned out to be a very skinny fella; to the point that regular-readymade clothes would never fit me. As a result, I would always design my own clothes/get them tailored. I enjoyed the process and indulged in a lot of experimentation as far my own wardrobe was concerned. Slowly, people started noticing what I would wear and would often compliment me.

Swipe right: This was my 2nd time to visit Seoul, South Korea. I was 130 lbs, 40 lbs heavier than my original (skinny fat) weight of 90. I already felt horrible about myself before going on the trip. My body structure wasn't used to my new weight. Clothes didn't fit me anymore. I had to hold on to something every time I'd stand up. I'd get tired from walking so easily, we had to rest every 5 minutes because my legs would hurt. So when I found myself crying in the hotel room, skipping an itinerary that I'd otherwise look forward to because I didn't want to walk anymore, I knew that something had to be done.
Current picture: I started going to the gym -- with no gym background -- on November 2017. I also began a healthier diet. I was clueless on both fronts.
It wasn't easy. It was a challenge. But I wanted to be the best version of myself. And with that in mind -- I persevered. I went to the gym a minimum of 3 times a week. With the help of my trainer, I finally got the hang of it. It's all about discipline, hard work, and keeping yourself motivated. (I'd like to thank all my cheerleaders and my fitspirations -- you know who you are :D)

On November 2017, I was 130 lbs. As of today, March 2, 2018 -- I'm 102 lbs. Fitter, stronger, and getting there. ✨

Next thing I knew I was in their office, then on a shoot, then standing in front of 25 of the top agencies around the world. Then on a plane to Tokyo. From a town of 2200 people to the most populated city in the world. I would go to castings as many hours as there were in the day. I was told I was to skinny, to fat, to pretty, not weird enough, to blonde, not the right ethnicity, to edgy, not edgy enough, to old, to young, to short, my eyes were the wrong color and my teeth were to straight. But I still booked work. All I needed was one yes out of all of those no’s to make it worth it. I don’t know how I survived at such a young age subjecting myself to that much criticism. I think it was just the timing. Back then we didn’t have photoshop or filters and you only had 24 frames to get it right. You had to actually look like your photos to be booked a job and the photographers who shot you were actual photographers with real cameras not point and shoots. We didn’t have social media to compare ourselves and alter our lives to fit the mold. Those meetings where I felt like I was under a microscope taught me that there’s no such thing as perfect. We’re not what everyone is looking for but we are exactly what someone is looking for. Could you imagine a world where we all looked alike? We’re we saw the same thing or thought the same thoughts? Perfect is boring. Diversity is beautiful. Embrace yourself. Love yourself because being yourself in a world that is constantly trying to make you someone else is the greatest accomplishment you can achieve.

The first photo : I had that “skinny fat” look . Ran a crap ton . My body was not muscular at all . Come to think of it , I don’t think I had any muscle .. 🤷🏻‍♀️ I did a lot of sports but I ate “ healthy for starters” if you want to call it that and I didn’t measure or weigh any food .
The middle photo : Trying to figure how to do this whole fitness lifestyle thing. Trying to figure out how to become one of those beautiful strong women that look like they can stand their own . I have always wanted to have that superhero body . To have that kind of power and strength just by the way you look is freaking awesome . My body started looking just ... big . No real definition.
I am not a small girl . I have size . I have shape . I have thick muscle and I have to continue to appreciate that daily even when I hate it . Because believe me , there are days when I don’t .
The right photo : NOW. There will always be areas on us that we would like to shape alittle better or look alittle different . I guess you can say I am becoming an Amazonian. 💪🏻

I constantly see girls on here with insane proportions. A super tiny waist with wide hips and a butt. Why is that our definition of beauty? It's so unrealistic for the majority of us. The majority of us have cellulite, stretch marks, soft bellies and jiggly thighs. Can realism be a new trend - embracing our real, unedited and diverse body types?
Don't trust everything you see on here. Trust videos before pictures (although videos can be altered too). Trust the girls who are unafraid to show their imperfections.

Its weird for me to admit it cause I still feel like, well I wasn't skinny enough to say I had an eating disorder because that's how my mind use to think (yet I did get to easily fit a size 0). I don't know where I would be if I hadn't learned about bodybuilding. I probably would have ended up in the hospital. I remember wanting to be skin stretched over bone. And with my personality I am sure I would have made it there, had I not had my perspective changed when it did, to then want to be something different and then years later...after 2 kids, achieving that goal and more. I'm more confident with my body than ever, in both my everyday body composition and also in prep/show condition. I appreciate having body fat as much as I appreciate having abs. Muscle makes such beautiful curves....and ya gotta eat to get muscle 😊

Very happy I stuck to my guns by extending my offseason / letting myself gain a little fat in return for some gains.🔫

Competing is fun, and improving your skill set to be able to train at a high intensity while in a calorie deficit / being extremely lean can only come from experience.💪🏼

IMO, it isn’t worth sacrificing long term physique development.✌🏼

On the right, I’m also 5 months post show but I didn’t cut any food out during prep. I counted macros, I ate flexibly and much higher calorie. I was rarely hungry and I wasn’t craving

You MUST find out from any prospective coach just how they like to prep people - how is the diet going to be- is it a way that is going to fit into your life? Is it sustainable for you? Is it a rigid meal plan or is it flexible? Will this suit you?

I must also add that although no evidence, I would say don’t use illegal fat burners unless you want to rebound. I used one for my first prep and look at me afterwards. I didn’t touch anything during my second prep and look at me now. This could be down to dietary approach, but all my friends that use something tend to gain weight extremely rapidly post-show. I didn’t reverse diet as I wanted to be in an immediate surplus but I’ve remained leaner. To burn fat give yourself enough time, get yourself into an energy deficit and be patient. The quick fix is often going to be more trouble in the long run

A lot of competitors have commented to me saying that I’m not going to grow as I’ve not put enough weight back on post-show. This is a healthy, sustainable body fat percentage for me. I’m 10kg up. I’m eating a LOT, I’m training hard and I’m growing. Slowly. Naturally. We are all different though. Don’t look at me and judge yourself against my physique because we look different. Monitor your own progress and focus on your own goal. That’s what I’m doing right now because if I listened to others, I would be making myself feel and look shit by trying to conform to their opinion. I always value everyone else’s input, but I’m also brave enough to trial and error it my own way

When someone says “I hate my arms”, or “I wish I didn’t have these love handles”, almost anyone within earshot may begin to critique themselves, even if it’s not spoken out loud. This is what I call "fat talk" 👊

“Fat talk” is a way for people to bond over because it’s easily relatable; nearly everyone has some body part they aren’t 100% happy with. But "fat talk" is not a way to have meaningful connections in your life. It’s not worth the guilt, shame & negativity it brings. So what can you do about it?

1️⃣Identify what makes you say “I feel fat”♥️ Don’t minimize the sensation of “feeling fat.” You are entitled to feel uncomfortable about your body or a certain body part. However, how you feel about your body doesn’t need to determine your emotions. Get curious on why you are having negative thoughts about your body, find specific situations or triggers to be aware of, & avoid using your body as a scapegoat.

2️⃣Change the subject.♥️ You don’t have to engage in the "fat talk" when others bring it up. Just ask another unrelated question to quickly change the subject & skip over the body shaming.

3️⃣Make meaningful connections♥️ What are some other topics you can discuss that have meaning? Being skinny or looking like someone in a magazine is not a realistic or productive goal in life. Try talking about your hobbies, family, job, or pet 🙊. There is so much more to your life than trying to fit into some idealistic mold of perfection.

Left: my first show in June 2016, 53kgs & approx 13% body fat  Right: my 7th show, July 2018, 59kgs & around 10% body fat. I’ve shared many of my fat to lean transformations but this one was by far the hardest, after losing all my excess weight I was left with a skinny little bean pole frame. 🐊Weight loss is actually very simple. Burn more calories than your body uses. It’s simple. But it’s not easy.

🐬But here’s the thing. Weight loss is not what most people think it is. So many people say they want to lose weight, but what they really want is to lose fat.

🦒What is important to them is to have their clothes fit better. They want to look lean. They want to have some muscle definition. They want to get stronger. -
🐏A number on the scale does not guarantee you any of those things. And as a mater of fact, with weight loss, you can also lose muscle if you aren’t careful. If you lose muscle and fat, you won’t look lean or more defined. You cold even look “skinny fat"

🦈I get it. A number on the scale is something we can easily see - something that is tangible, and it can be ‘motivating’. But it certainly doesn’t tell the whole story.

🐢So how do you get that more defined, lean look? A modest calorie deficit, adequate protein and strength training. Add in some cardio you love, and be prepared to be in the game for the long haul (patience!)

🦕The scale can be part of the journey if you want it to be. But why not just focus on how you feel. How your clothes fit. How you look in the mirror. How much stronger you have gotten

🐶Your progress is there. I promise you. You don’t always have to look at the scale for signs of progress.

🦊Keep it all in perspective and keep going. You are so much more than a number. You’ve got this. I know you do.

All these cardio goals will never stop me from deadlifting. But i digress.

I am gonna throw some real world crap at you guys:

1.) I don't care if you are fat, skinny, orange, brown gay, straight, trans i will always appreciate someone coming in to the gym and working hard.
Simply put, you have no idea where each person came from or where they are in their mind. Usually, the gym is a step in the right direction!

2.) I didn't start like a lot of trainers. I was never the fit guy when i was young and honestly it really is crazy to think of where i am mentally from where i came from which is why i can RELATE to a lot of people. I got stretch marks. I used to be 300lbs. I had sleep apnea, asthma, likely prediabetic. I have struggled with my mental states. I have had a challenging upbringing and here i am. I am not perfect and that is A OK!
3.) EVERYTHING WE DO is MODELED BY SOMEONE around us. Who you are is who you surround yourself with. Our choices are our own but they are not. So choose your friends and acquaintances wisely.
4.) Everything we see touch , sense, read, listen to becomes part of your DNA! Not all learning is conscious, if you tend to your brain like a garden with good thoughts, good things will happen. No. I am not saying be positive all the time. But hunker down, make a plan and follow through!

5.) Last, but not least. If you are not moving and not going towards your goals. MOVE. Seriously, our bodies are designed to move. When we don't we not only lose strength, coordination, size, etc but we often lose our headspace too! We are not meant to be couped up in our houses or apartments all day watching tv or youtube(yes i am even guilty of this sometimes.) Everyday is a choice.
