Lots of love Joe ☺️ “Starting the plan 4 months after a c-section with my second baby and exclusively breastfeeding did pose some challenges but it’s definitely been worth it. I never dreamed I’d be this fit and healthy when my daughter was only 6 months old. I’m loving the food and have surprised myself at how well I’ve stuck to it. I was hungry the first few weeks and I did have the odd extra snack as I was breastfeeding but by the end of C1 the quantities have been spot on and I haven’t been hungry at all. As I was postpartum i saw a physio before starting - she advised me to replace ab work with Pilates exercise due to diastasis recti. I’ve loved the weights in C2 and although I can’t honestly say I’ve done every work out, I’ve made sure I’ve done something active every day - swimming with the kids, long walks with the buggy or Pilates. Doing the plan with a couple of girlfriends our mantra if we slip is not to beat ourselves up but to ‘get straight back on plan’. It’s really helped not let one bad eating or drinking day derail me completely. With a new baby and toddler it’s required a lot of digging deep at times and a super supportive husband but I’m 100% indebted to the Body Coach plan for giving me more body confidence, energy and positivity. Life changer x”

Maybe it’s a Spanish thing? We had a few questions for him leading up to raceday.

It’s been a little while since your last full Ironman. How was training this time around?
It’s being the first season for me training specific for full ironman distance. Before I did it at the end of the year after being focus in 70.3.. it’s being a bit different.. less swim more bike and run and a lot of threshold workouts.

As a full-time designer at Coach, how are you finding balance in your week to train?
Haha not sure if I’m finding balance at all.. but I’m trying my best. Definitely full ironman distance makes it even more challenging. Working in a competitive industry and city you have to be everyday 100% in your job so you can compromise that. Finding balance comes with a lot of planning ahead.. making sure I can fit workouts with work and really nice friends that understand your obsession and are able to usually adapt to bad timing for dinners and plans. I’m very lucky

How do you pick your races in any given season? How about the number of races?
Usually there some races that I’m excited to do or some places that I want to visit.. then trying to make that happen with my work calendar and trips becomes usually a challenge. In there I try to make sure that the key races are placed in moments that I can peak in shape given the mandatory winter slow down in NYC

Any advice for fellow endurance athletes on managing setbacks from injury?
Patience. And enjoy the time off for other things that you can’t focus as much when training in full shape.. reading, exhibitions, social life, paint or if your injury allows it other stuffs as yoga or Pilates that will also help your future performance.

Any routines before race day?
I’m not very specific.. usually the day before the race I just like to shake a bit the body in the morning.that’s all, good food good music and good rest
