I always get a lot of questions about my hair and I really only credit three things for keeping my mane healthy, and manageable.
1️⃣I only wash my hair max, twice a week. But it’s not surprising if I only wash it once a week either. My scalp can’t handle extra washing and my hair is easier to style when it’s a little dirty.
2️⃣ my @thedrybar buttercup hair dryer. This thing is the bees knees because it reduces frizz and reduces time spent blow drying which equals healthier hair.
3️⃣ @kerastase_official everything! That’s right and this post isn’t sponsored. I switched to their shampoo/conditioner about 2 years ago and I haven’t looked back since. There’s not a product they make that I don’t like and I credit them a lot for giving me these locks that I love so much!

YUCK. anyyyyway, you can use any brand, doesn’t matter... nothing fancy. my hair is so easy to brush through, I let air dry & the next day it’s so soft... if you feel build up or residue from the conditioner after it’s dry the next time you shower you double shampoo && clearly this is NOT for ppl with super greasy hair, I do this every time I wash my hair & it feels like butter... I leave it conditioner from top to bottom but like I said that’s bc I’m VERY DRY... try it if you want.

I just wanted to take a second to brag about how fantastic the @dollylocks Nag Champa shampoo bar. I Have tried both the liquid and the bar now and I personally prefer the bar, I love how sudsy it gets in my locs and the scent of nag champa lingers for so long. Washing my hair is such an extreme and painstaking task with it being so long so I'm not going to lie... I slack off for weeks before doing it so by the time I get around to washing I have a bit of build up, but it leaves my scalp feeling fresh, clean and it is also residue free which is MANDATORY for maintaining your beautiful locs. Literally my hair never feels cleaner than when I use this bar. I just love it so much!!”

Mines is very TESTY😩🤦🏾‍♂️ But here’s a mini overview of my hair journey! #swipeleft , First 4 pics is my hair when it was completely damaged. Damaged to the point where there was little to no curl pattern. like i literally thought this (first couple pics) was my natural “CURL” pattern lmao wheewww that’s hilarious lol I damaged it by flat ironing my hair DAILY! I would actually leave the salon and go home and put more heat on it 🤦🏾‍♂️ I was trippin I know lol Heat is literally the devil to our hair!! Once I completely cut back on heat and cut off all my damage to start over (Pic 4), I noticed my hair was getting thicker and curlier by the month! That kept me motivated to keep on going. Few years later my hair is the strongest, healthiest, thickest, and longest it’s ever been! I use heat once MAYBEEEE twice a year! I deep condition twice weekly and wash my hair every week (usually every two weeks but it’s summaaaa time and it’s hawtttt and I be sweating and watnot soooo I been washing once a week lately) lol , and I drink lots and lots of water! Hope this motivates you ladies, and guys! Stay patient and persistent! Trust me your hair can flourish too🖤

I will be posting another video tomorrow on my channel you guys! Make sure you click the link in my bio to check out my Wash Day Routine 💖

I just feel it’s necessary to bring up this topic, so i can just get it out of the way.
As all my followers know i do use Weave and wigs, but that doesn’t mean i am BALD !! I dooo have hair. I feel in America it is more cultural acceptable to talk freely about your “lace front wig” than here in Norway. I have never felt comfortable talking about my hair to my friends, the only person i was truly comfortable talking about my hair with was my ex boyfriend and of course family. If someone asked me about my hair I would prefer to say I have “extensions” because you don’t know how the person would react to the word “wig” And if you ask any black girl why they don’t go with their natural hair, if they give you this look 🙄 what the actually mean to say is ....... .
.
1. I can’t leave it out for more than a week..or else I would actually go bald !
2. It doesn’t tackle cold weather
3. Combing my hair takes 2 hours or more
4. It hurts like hell
5. You actually need to use a whole day for washing, drying, combing, relaxing it
6. You can’t just wake up and go out.. you have to wake up an hour or 2 before, depending on what you want to do with it !
7. People will STARE, STARE and STARE
8. Your hair will never be just hair In others eyes, it will be “coooool” and so “touchable“... I know you mean well, but it’s annoying AF 💆🏾‍♀️ .
.
.

So getting to the point, girls don’t “Necessarily” use wigs because they are bald, but because we don’t have time to stand in the bathroom for 4 hours before going out only to do our hair! Or if you just wanted a change without wanting to damage your own hair. It shouldn’t be a taboooooooo 🙅🏾‍♀️ Btw all the celebrities in this post are wearing wigs in the picture !

We’re spending Sunday, face mask on, ☕️ in hand catching up on our favourite beauty blogs and just came across a review of @dafnihair that has made our day. 💐 @ladywritesblog writes in depth on her reviews and we always 💖 her honestly, if you don’t follow her already do it now ✅
Here is a little of what she had to say🔝
“All-in-all for me, the DAFNI Brush has slotted perfectly into my everyday beauty regime. It's quick and easy to use, it doesn't damage my ridiculously fine hair, and gives me a sleek looking blow-dry look in less time than any other styler I've used. Plus it's made the non-wash days I first mentioned, so much better because it gives my hair a new lease of life - without washing! What I like when I use it, is that it retains some volume in my hair, unlike straightners which unless you spend a lot more time using them, tend to pull the volume out of my fine tresses unfortunately. So it's really given me some everyday oomph back in the roots in such a short amount of styling time.

It's an absolute haircare win.” #purebeauty

My haircare in a photo 💁‍♀️ It feels scary to share this, but few people know that several years ago, I lost around a third of my hair from psychological stress as a result of numerous difficult things happening at once. I remember closing my eyes when brushing my hair because that's when the most would come out. It took me a while to admit that emotions could have been the reason for so much physical stress, and here begins my passion for the mind-body connection. Now, all my original hair has grown back stronger and healthier than ever before. I attribute this to meditation, my diet, sleep, exercise, and also just simply taking care of my locks. Here's what I've been doing lately: ✨I wash ONCE a week. It took time to oil train my hair, but for most people, it's super unnecessary to wash your hair everyday or even every other day. No need to strip your hair of its essential oils! ✨The night before washing, or the morning of, I'll coat my hair in coconut oil or a hair mask, let it sit for 1-12 hours and wash it out. Helps with hydration and strength (especially your ends). ✨Brush in the shower! It's more gentle on your hair. ✨Use natural products with ingredients that you can pronounce. As you know, I use @ethiqueusa vegan beauty bars because they're filled with essential oils, plastic-free and equivalent to using 8 liquid bottles of shampoo + conditioner. And when you only wash your hair once a week... that's a chunk of $$$ saved in the long-run. #ballinonabudget #giveupthebottle #ad #ethiqueusa

That was me on the left my freshman year of community college, when I decided to stop relaxing and big chop. A decision I have never regretted. Of course nobody noticed or knew i cut my hair crazy because I constantly wore wigs, weaves, braids etc. that blended with my natural hair... but can I just say, my hair growth is incredible. After my little scissor session, I DID NOT treat my hair the way I was supposed to. My hair regimen didn’t involve, deep conditioning or oils, it was basically me washing it and then putting a wig over it. LOL. I was always lazy and kinda convinced that my hair wouldn’t grow, and I was fine with it, only cause I knew it was part of me i.e that I was born with curly/kinky hair. And even though I hated the length I was happy that I was natural again. So can I get an AMEN for my hair continuing to grow even though i treated it like 💩. I am entirely happy with my journey, and I have gotten to the point where I don’t feel the need to wear those things anymore. I am NATURAL & PROUD. And today is the day where I begin treating it how i should have, now watch it really grow😋. Hope this motivates you. Until next time my beauties!

P.S: I have no product in my hair or makeup on in either pictures. (It was very hard to put up these photos of me). Also the second picture was taken a few months ago, it’s a little longer now.

I stepped in the shower one night, started washing my hair, only to look down and see clumps of hair sitting by the drain. And I mean... clumps. My hair was falling out in patches. I felt disgusted, I was in denial. I had been starving my body, eating only 400-500 calories a day, I was underweight, and my body was shutting down.
From there I tried fixing the issue with copious amount of vitamins. I remember going to the store, and spending nearly $100 on them believing that would “fix things”. Shortly after that, I was introduced to hair extensions. And that’s when I started hiding my short hair with them.
It’s officially been a year and a half since I took my hair extensions out and decided to embrace the hair length that God has given me. Sure, some of the damage was self-inflicted. And my hair no longer grows past my shoulders. I could sit and feel upset at myself for it, or I can embrace my short, sassy locks with a smile on my face. I believe in making lemonade out of lemons, even when you have to learn lessons the hard way.
Here’s to being healthy, to embracing the hair length God gave me, and to re-writing my own definition of beauty... no matter what length my hair might be. #life

Okay full disclosure, there’s a lot going on here, obviously: the before is after 2 weeks in Costa Rica and so many mineral springs which my skin loved, but my hair not so much. My point is that my hair is capable of doing what you see in the before photo, and it doesn’t actually take much for it to happen. 💫
My hair is difficult. Don’t get me wrong, I love it and am grateful for how much is on my head, but it has some serious Jewfro potential and is not wash and wear hair. Washing my hair involves fitting it into my schedule, the shit takes time. 💫
Because of the high maintenance quality of it, I have tried pretty much every shampoo and conditioner out there. Cheap ones, expensive ones, “magical” ones, they all did the same thing which was not much. 💫

Even though I’m committed to using safer skin and home care products, if Pantene pro V was magic for my hair, I’d use it just to make life easier. But it’s not. 💫
Well, I’m here to tell you that after using The smooth and control shampoo and conditioner from Beautycounter for several months now, I have found IT. I was skeptical because I didn’t like their original shampoo At. All. But this stuff makes my hair softer and shinier and healthier than anything I’ve ever used EVER. It just so happens that it’s also made with clean ingredients that I don’t have to worry about and smells like heaven. 💫
Have high maintenance hair like mine? This is the stuff, I’m telling ya. They also make a Repair and Nourish line and a Volume and Shape line, if your hair needs more of those things!
The shampoo, conditioner and hair oil I use: https://www.beautycounter.com/simonemiller?goto=/product/smooth-control-collection Live link in my profile!

CLEAN! And the conditioner is totally suitable for co-washing too. Ahhhhh....refreshing!
.
For styling I decided to give @officialkinkycurly another shot, and tried the #kinkycurlyknottoday (KCKT) leave in followed by the #kinkycurlycurlingcustard (KCCC). The #leavein has amazing slip ADM is VERY moisturizing. The curling custard is basically the gel, and a little goes a long way.
.
Everyone refers to these by the acronym so I figured I’d tell you what they are! Swipe for products used. The first time I used these I wasn’t impressed. It left my hair hard but not in a good way. I since learned the hair really does need to be soaked for this product to penetrate and it does amazing with humidity. This was 91F and humid as heck! #MidwestHeat this works, and is a big lighter than Cantu #curlingcustard for those of you that told me you liked Cantu but it left a white sticky foam on your hair. This doesn’t and it’s a bit lighter, so this can be for you!.
.
PS: when the weather is too too humid, there really isn’t a reason to scrunch out the crunch because the water in the air already takes care of that. Otherwise it may generate some frizz and I welcomed volume for you. Not the kind of. Oh by volume we know and love, but that’s alright too! #liveandlearn

HAPPY MONDAY! ☀️ I asked if you guys wanted to see my hairstyles through the work week (I really didn’t think many people would care) but you guys are so cool for wanting to see! So I’m going to try my best to show & explain how I only wash my hair once a week🤫 -I’ve noticed that if I get up early enough on a Monday and blow out my hair, I really feel like I’ve got my shit together... it’s not true, but I like to pretend sometimes. You should try it! -I know giving yourself a blowout the first few times is the most awkward, uncomfortable thing in the world. My arms used to feel like jello afterwards. I can honestly say a blow out is the reason I go so long without washing my hair & it gives the perfect canvas for the rest of the weeks hairstyles. 🙆🏼‍♀️ -TIPS & TRICKS-
•ALWAYS rough dry your hair first(no brush) you want your hair to be 75% dry before you start with a round brush -you’ll want to put your hair products in before rough drying- •You should NEVER EVER EVER blow against the cuticle. The nozzle of your hair dryer should always be pointing down towards the ends. Blowing against the cuticle cause frizz and flyaways. YUCK 🤢 •The only time your blow dryer will be facing up, is if you decide to make your Mohawk it’s own section like I do. I don’t blow dry based off of my part because I flip my hair often and my part is always different. Drying the top section of your hair backwards like this promotes lots of volume. You can notice that even though my nozzle is up it’s always pointing to the ends of my hair. •Try not to rest your blow dryer on your round brush during the process. You want to try and keep it at least an inch away. The blow dryer heats up the ceramic brush to smooth and straighten out the hair. But too much heat causes breakage.
Is this not the longest post ever?? I could teach you how to set with curlers or iron but let’s be real.. it’s still Monday 😴☕️

As of lately I have been wearing my hair straight for work. It’s just a lot easier to maintain and minimal effort. I can just brush my hair and run into the office. .
.
.
Now don’t get my wrong, I love my curls! So I make sure to take care of them when I know I’m going to add heat. Now yes, heat is bad. Never a good way to do heat, but for my wash day in between straight styles I pamper my hair. .
.
.
I usually comb my hair out while it’s straight before I get in the shower so there isn’t much detangling to do, When washing my hair I like to use the @traderjoes shampoo and conditioner. The tea tree tingle kind. You can feel it working magic in your hair. While I have shampoo only on my scalp, I use a scalp massager! Once I rinse, I move to conditioner. I will use a denman brush to make sure I’m fully detangled. I rinse everything out and I’ll apply a deep conditioner. No particular kind, the brands switch out often. Then I’m all set to dry my hair with a cotton T-shirt and start my hair straightening routine. .
.
.
Side note: I always do some kind of deep conditioner when I wash my hair. I’ll use a heavier deep conditioner for a longer period of time 2x a month. And I usually do a protein treatment once a month. .
.
.
Another side note: my routine is not perfect, it absolutely has its flaws. But it works for me!

🎀@sexyhair got me through a whole weekend of no hair washing, saved me so much time. It makes your hair have volume too! Its been a fav for a long time!! 🎀@stilacosmetics stay all day foundation pretty decently stayed on my face from 8am to 10pm through work & a workout! Got it at @marshalls for 7.99, blends like a dream too. Wish it was in smaller packaging so I could put it in my kit for my brides! Go grab one while they still have it!
🎀These curls I achieved w a 3/4 @babylissprousa iron. I feel like ppl are always afraid of small irons but if you have thin hair it's essential. I use that size to do most of my big volume bride curl styles too surprisingly, you just have to pull it apart the right way 😉

After my hair air dried like it used to with some leave-in conditioner, I would just go over it with the straightener and be happy. I was clearly living a LIE because underneath it all, it really just looked like this: sad and stringy, not one curl in sight! Just a sad, dry mess that I chose to ignore because the #flatiron fixes everything right? WRONG.
.

Anyway, Fast forward to the picture on the RIGHT, this week which is my 3rd week into the process. I’m doing nothing crazy, you can see the #HairRoutine in my stories. I’m washing with low poo, sometimes co-washing and using leave in and gel. The curls are NOWHERE near where they need to be, and I obvy need a cut, but I’m just letting my hair and curls get to a happier place and recover it’s #CurlMemory from where it used to be decades ago. .
#HairMemory is definitely a thing, but it takes time. Cheers to you also on your #Curlygirl journey. Acceptance is the main stage to get through. After that....enjoy the process...read, watch the videos, trial and error products. I’m going to start documenting on YouTube. If you don’t follow me there and want to, subscribe to the @colorfulfoodie On YouTube. Yes it’s mainly a food channel, but it’s where I’ll be sharing because I’m the human behind the food, mmmkay? 💕.
.
The Channel is 💫www.youtube.com/c/colorfulfoodie💫 or just click the link in the bio 👆🏼 to see the ridiculous video of my last haircut with my mom stopping the stylist from doing her job, every, step, of the way! I wasn’t even planning on filling that day but she was so ridiculous I snapchatted the whole thing and then decided to blast her on YouTube. Should I bring her when I get my #devacut? 🤣 not sure if it’s a good idea!.

An interesting impromptu experiment...I managed to go 4 weeks without washing my hair due to being unwell for most of January. What happened to my hair...? Well, nothing much! It didn’t shed loads, it didn’t notice lots of breakage. My scalp wasn’t unbearably itchy and my hair for the most part stayed moisturised (predominantly in the middle area). I didn’t have excessive tangles because I literally hadn’t touched the sections my hair was in. I occasionally spritzed my edges but that was all. My homemade curly pudding seems to keep my hair well moisturised and DC’ing with heat. So I’m guessing this means natural hair care doesn’t have to be labour intensive, it can be super simple if we can work out what keeps our hair moisturised for the longest time and practice a low manipulation routine. #naturalhair #naturalhairhacks #naturalhairregimen #4chair #curlyblossomproject

Looks like I’m doing the limbo in my cover pic of my video 😂 Made my hair growth oil again, but this time it’s severely needed. Off and on throughout the last year or so I’ve lost a lot of hair. Especially in the shower. I’m very gentle with my hair, but I know it’s due to hormones (I lost my period like 3-4 years ago) endometriosis, celiac disease, and major major stress. I have severe anxiety and depersonalization. Awhile ago I chopped my hair because at one point I had an under cut, and when it grew out, it looked weird and I wanted it to be the same length. Like right below my ears short. Now it’s right above my shoulders. I not only want to promote hair growth, but prevent hair loss (obviously) and dry scalp. I used mostly castor oil for the hair growth, grape seed oil, avocado oil, and EVOO as my carrier oils. The best essential oils for hair growth are rosemary & clove. I used about 20 drops each. Then added 10 drops peppermint, eucalyptus, lemon, cinnamon leaf & tea tree oil. Tea tree is great for promoting hair growth and excellent for treating dry scalp. And last I used Apple Cider Vinegar for mainly dry scalp, but also used for hair growth. I mixed it all in this cute Oil jar I’ve had for awhile from Dollar Tree, and poured some into an empty ejuice bottle so I could drop it right on my scalp and massage it in. I’m planning on leaving it in overnight & washing out in the AM. And probably 2 times a week. I’m so thankful I’ve always had massively thick hair, if not my hair would be strings at this point 😢 but I’ll track my hair growth/volume on here like I used to do in the old days 😉 If this works, I’m definitely considering selling my hair growth oil again 😊 Oh and as far as supplements like biotin and Hair Skin and Nails, tried it and broke out terribly and got no effect on my hair. If this goes well comment a 💁🏻 emoji if I should sell these again!

Response no. 10:

Salt Skin
Drifting
I am alone.
I feel lighter, but I am held deeply
I look up at Sky feeling the
warmth of Sun as she shines her rays across my skin
I see green and grey ahead of me
Like a branch washing up on the shore
The waves send out a final sigh
And I am plunged into the sand.
I am re-born of Ocean with my eyes closed.
Amongst the dying branches emerging from sand
I feel my salt skin dripping from my body
Already this skin is beginning to find its way back into the ocean
And I am forced to get to my feet.
Crunching lightly and sometimes ungainly
I walk across this brittle surface up onto rocky Earth
It is here I choose to rest.
My body is tired
From seeing and dreaming
From believing and wanting
From heartache and from loss
From the harsh edges of the world where
Deep soft dreams rub up against
cold rough edges of
angry emotions
static structures
dark systems.
Having left my body alone to nurture itself in the
deepness of Ocean,
my soul’s wounds have been tended in Salt.
My eyes soften as they gazed for long hours up into
light blue Sky
Dryness of salt forces my skin to crack apart in places
across my body, so that light may find its way inside.
Shining gently as it moves through my muscles.
This light is blue and green as Ocean water and each organ it touches breathes more deeply, rests lighter, relaxing the tensions that have restrained and held on so tightly
Blue green Ocean light travels into my bloodstream, drifting with no sense of time or constraint
I jump into this light as I would into a shallow stream,
cool
bubbly
clear
This stream takes us to heart which has been holding on so tightly and now is relieved to find me washing in. I hear my heart release its breath and smile contentedly.
I rest.
I now regard Ocean and thank her for carrying me back to this place
It has been a long time and I already miss my salt skin but I feel it in my hair, its remains on my skin give me strength to keep moving.
Rock I have come to you have made a home for trees and sand and dirt and animals
Rock I have arrived on, you have held beings as they find their way across your warm paths finding softer places to land.....

It restores damaged hair, improves shine and texture, repairs split ends, and hydrates and deep conditions your hair. I’ve had this product for about a month and I use it not only on my real hair but my hair extensions as well and have seen a very noticeable difference in bounce and sheen on both which is extremely hard to accomplish. Time constraints are limited because the masque can be applied after washing your hair in under 10 minutes. The ‘Like A Virgin’ hair masque conveniently came with a cute brush to help detangle my hair which I found to be actually quite useful and I didn’t have to add a lot of product which I love because most times, products that weigh down my hair in the long run don’t work best for me and with Coco and Eve, I did not see that problem. One of the things I love about this masque is that it’s made from coconuts, fig, and shea butter and is vegan and cruelty free. If you suffer from split ends and lackluster hair, I suggest you give Coco and Eve’s ‘Like A Virgin’ hair masque a try! #ad

I get so many questions about my color and hair routine so here goes, once and for all... 1. I almost never heat style my hair. I can count on one hand how many times I use a blowdryer. If I am using a wand for waves I try to limit to once a week.
2. I wash my hair 1-2x/week. Yes it took a while for my hair to get used to this but it is way healthier now and less greasy than when I was washing all the time. I like @rahuabeauty @alternahaircare and @verbproducts
3. I rarely use product I think it weighs my hair down. I stick to @captainblankenship salt spray and spray it at the root for volume and texture, then a little on the ends.
4. I take @vitalproteins marine collagen every morning and I swear it makes my hair grow faster and keeps it healthy.
5. I use @dphue acv rinse every other week and alternate with an @olaplex treatment every three weeks

To get this color @jenniekaybeauty did a mix of balayage and foils because I wanted brighter pieces for summer. It took four hours but was also my second appointment of going lighter. A good colorist will be honest with you about achieving the color you want and most likely if it’s a big difference from what you currently have it may take more than one appointment. Patience is 🔑

I've been using Mane Magic for about a week now & I've been pleasantly surprised by the great results. It's a 10-in-1 primer that I use both before blow drying & on days that my hair ends feel dry, frizzy or dull. This primer is great because it detangles, nourishes, strengthens, softens, cuts drying time, adds shine, reduces frizz & more. It made my hair feel softer, look shinier, protected from heat from my blow dryer, & overall look and feel healthier. I love running my fingers through my hair afterwards because it feels so soft & I love the subtle smell that's delicious. I mainly use it before blow drying because it protect my hair from the heat & I spray from roots to ends and then comb my hair & run my fingers through my hair to evenly distribute it. It really does live up to the 1-in-10 benefits for your hair and the end results are healthier looking & feeling hair. It has such a lightweight non greasy formula that it works great even on dry hair to revive it in between hair washing days. It's especially useful during the cold and dry winter days where your hair gets dry and staticy.
Therapy Session Hair Mask:
I use this in the shower as my conditioner leaving it in my hair for the full 5 minutes to get the best benefit for my dry and damaged hair from dying and lightening my hair. Since I've lightened parts of my hair doing bylage and dying the rest a lighter brown shade my hair feels and looks both damaged & dry. This Therapy Session Hair mask deep conditions my hair leaving it looking healthier and feeling softer, hydrated & manageable. It's so simple to use, use it like as if you are applying regular conditioner but from roots to ends and leave it in for 2-5 minuets before rinsing it out. recommend leaving it in for the full five minutes for the best and optimal results. After using this just once I noticed a difference and after continuous use I've noticed a greater difference. After I'm done showering I blow dry my hair & it doesn't look or feel as damaged and dry. It looks healthy, stronger with less breakage

New mom, who dis? 🤳 Here is a very honest selfie I took this morning. When was the last time I washed my hair? Can't remember. I know I had a bath two maybe three days ago and it was glorious but the days are all a blur. I don't even bother wearing a bra 99% of the time because it's too much work. Also buttoning up the shirt is pointless as the babe is cluster feeding and the easier the access, the better! Self care is washing my face and brushing my teeth and anything beyond that is a bonus (like brushing my hair which I clearly haven't!). Getting out for even an hour is such a treat. I did our recycling yesterday and it was genuinely thrilling. My sister told me to remember that "the days are long but the years are fast". Vivian is growing and changing each and every day and I am growing and changing into a mother right alongside her. She's laying across my chest quietly sleeping as I type this. 💓

Living life with one arm means I'm always faced with challenging scenarios where I have to adapt.
But I've always said how grateful I am to have been born this way and not to have experienced illness or an accident, because having to learn how to manage after living life a certain way would be so difficult.
But every day I'm still presented with obstacles. Tasks that most people wouldn't even consider to be tasks, like carrying groceries, carrying my kids! Pushing a pram while holding a coffee! Buckling my kids into their car seats! Washing my hands with those taps you need to hold down for the water to come out! Cutting food, the list goes on.
But growing up, and even to this day, one of the things I've always struggled with is my hair.
Thankfully I have dead straight hair, which means easy maintenance. But every now and again I want something extra.
But I've never been able to curl my hair or even create a nice wave .... but now at 33 I've finally found a way!
My daughter told me that me new headphones look weird... I walked around the house like this for an hour with the aim of creating some volume!
The things we do!
So next time you're having a bad hair day, think of me, and my headphones!

And so, in honour of some realness, I want to share my MOST and LEAST glamorous moments from last week! Because some days you’re like “this is the fanciest of days!” And others you’re like: “Can I get away with another day of not washing my hair 🤷🏻‍♀️?”
.
Here’s my roundup from last week and I’d love to hear your MOST and LEAST glamorous moments of late too!
.
✨ MOST ✨
1 - Attending the most beautiful dinner hosted by @ElizabethScarlettElsey at @BurleyManor in celebration of @ElizabethScarlett’s latest lemon-themed collection. Incredible women, insane Mediterranean-inspired food, and good vibes all round 🍋
2 - Shooting an insanely beautiful purple dress with @CharlotteBryerAshPhoto which I can’t wait to show you 🙏🏼
3 - A dinner and cinema date with Oli, which was JUST the Thursday night I needed 🍿
.
🌿 LEAST 🌿
1 - Picking up dog poop 💩I was pup-sitting all week for my parents and whilst I LOVE the puppy cuddles, the poop situation is definitely not glam 🐶
2 - Wearing the same pair of jeans every. single. day. I mean, I love’em but I think they’re due a turn in the washing machine 👖
3 - 1932537 emails. It was a ‘getting stuff done’ week which was GREAT. But it’s not all flat-whites and flat-lays 😂 Desk time is my jam👩🏻‍💻🙋🏻‍♀️
.
What’s ONE glamorous and not-so-glamorous moment from your life of late? I can’t wait to hear them! #TheElginAvenue #MonicaBeatrice #BehindTheGram | Ph. @HowdyBrandon back in Austin - I loved this day so much!

O how I dread wash day. I was on two full weeks of not washing my hair because I could not be bothered but my hair was dull, dry, had build up and was becoming itchy so I knew it was time. I used the @Hairfinity Gentle Cleanse Shampoo and made sure I massaged it in really well. This shampoo helps cleanse without stripping your hair, it helped a little with detangling as well so that was a plus. I then followed up with the Balanced Moisture Conditioner and like I’ve told you guys before, this has great slip. My hair is thick so I couldn’t be bothered with the pump lol I need alllllll the conditioner. #hairfinity #hfinfiniteresults #teamhairfinity .

I grabbed it quickly en route to the airport when I realised I had forgotten my usual leave-in conditioners. I expected it to basically be just water and not be great. But the first time I used it I was in love! I hadn't combed my hair in 3 or 4 days and had jumped in the sea so obviously I was expecting a bit of a challenge when it came to combing. But this was like a natural and INSTANT detangler. And I don't think it even promotes its detangling abilities! I sprayed it on wet hair after washing and honestly, I am NOT exaggerating, my hair was a dream to brush. It felt soft, manageable, and like I had put a mask on it. I was literally staring at the spray like, for real? That's the best £4 I ever spent 🤣 Everybody's hair is different but this worked wonders for mine. I also took it with me as a top up when out and about to avoid heat damage. I didn't over-use it though; I find things become less effective when I use repeatedly. I recommend buying this as a practical leave-in conditioner for easy moisturizing and detangling! Fyi - My hair is very thick and long but not a lot was needed. I thought I would need half a bottle for just one use but that really isn't the case. Thanks @Palmersuk

When washing your hair gets relegated to, oh I don’t know, #24 on your list of priorities then you become extra appreciative of hair products that make you look somewhat put together. In this pic I’ve used the Dry Shampoo and the Texture Mist. Most dry shampoos, unless tinted, will leave my hair looking ashy but not this one and it absorbs oil beautifully while giving life to limp tresses. The Texture Mist adds just that, texture but what I love most about it is that it doesn’t leave my hair sticky or tacky at all. Just naturally soft yet with a magical texture/hold that could only come from a product formulated with said magic touch. And did I say that both of these items smell ah-mazing? Honestly, Diane has done it again - made me go 😍😍 and 🤩🤩 over hair care which rarely happens, just like she did with make up that time they were featured in a Beauty Heroes box. I intensified this mask by using @thermalhaircare for a hot deep mask treatment so the ingredients could penetrate my hair shafts even deeper. This day made me appreciate my weekly routine. 😪 People ask me why I deep condition before washing my hair...idk I've always done it that way, maybe because It saves me time. 🤷🏽‍♀️

If you're struggeling to grow yours, or generally having problems with dull, brittle hair, have a look at the tips below :) 1. Don't wash too offen!
I really mean it. I usually wash my hair about twice a week.
Don't shampoo more often than every other day or it will strip your hairs moisture and make it brittle in the long run. Only shampoo the roots. If you need a touch up try washing with water or conditioner only or go for dry shampoo. Might take some time getting used to, but the result is worth it.

2. Stay away from heat!
You're hair is basically built out of protein. An egg is as well. By heating the cuticle you're basically frying it, which causes denaturation. It's the same process as you can see while frying an egg and it turns from clear to white. Denaturation causes a loss of elasticity an therefore breakage. It cannot be undone.
Heat protection sprays won't help that much, so try to let your hair air dry more often and stay away from curling irons and straighteners (well of course of you have a date with the hottest guy ever or something ;) )

3. Condition!
Use a hair mask on a regular basis. Don't be penny-pinching, invest in a high quality hair mask, your hair will thank you. Pay attention to the ingredients, try not to use one which is basically just consisting of silicone. Some silicone is fine as it protects your hair and will be removed by the next wash anyways but too much can create a buildup and make your hair brittle underneath. Try to leave the mask at least 5 minutes, the longer the better.
I honestly recommend Aveda hair masks, I haven't found better ones out there yet.

4. Get a trim!
I won't tell you a specific time period after which you should go ahead and get a haircut. It's quite depending on some personal factors like your hairs overall state or your genetics. Generally I'd say that you should trim your ends if you feel you're noticing overly much split ends.

5. Coconut oil!
It's kind of a miracle thing. You can use it as a pre-wash, leave it overnight or use it as a leave-in after you washed your hair. It will leave your strands smooth, shiny and hydrated.

As a blogger, it’s been a challenge to take care of my hair and protect it from heat damage because I am always getting ready for events and shoots.

The Aussie hair 3 Minute Miracle Moist has saved my hair and replenished it - because of its hydrating formula and all natural ingredients that include jojoba , sea kelp and Australian aloe.

I am also able to prolong my blowouts and style my waves with ease so I can spend more time on the things that matter to me and don’t have to worry about washing my hair daily.
Have you babes tried @aussiehairusa yet? Highly recommend their line and would love to know your experience in the comments below💜

Buenos Dias friends! I just wanted to show you how I revive my curls after 2nd day hair. We all know washing your hair everyday is not the best thing for curly hair. So here is how I fake the funk. I spray the @palmers Mallow Root leave in conditioner all over my hair. I used the diffuser to help the curls form again. Then I seal and give my hair moisture by adding a few drops of the @palmers Jojoba oil. And that’s it! I have to say, I have been obsessed with the @palmers Natural fusion line. The entire line from the shampoo, to the conditioner, to the styling products are amazing! I have seen such a tremendous improvement in my hair since I started using this line.

Every time I straighten my hair I get really nervous that I'm going to permanently mess up my curl pattern! I only straighten my hair 3-4 times a year and when I do I make sure to follow these steps!:
.
1. Deep condition a few days before you plan to straighten your hair so it's feeling super strong and nourished!
.
2. After washing, towel dry your hair and let it air dry for at least 20 mins so it's mostly dry before you even start blow drying.
.
3. Section your hair and apply a good heat protectant.
.
4. Blow dry your hair in sections on medium heat! Don't go HOT!
.
5. Straighten your hair on a medium setting that's not the flat iron's hottest and be sure to add dabs of heat protectant when needed towards the tips.
.
6. Try to not reapply heat while your hair is straightened! (This is the hardest part for me!).
.
7. Pray to the curl Gods your curl pattern is still there on wash day 🙏🏾🙏🏾🙏🏾

Unstretched 4C hair texture// over the last few months I've not stretched my hair using threading- just to see if I could leave it out of my usual routine. I've simply been using my curly pudding recipe which includes eco styler gel to help 'stretch' out my hair a little and prevent tangles. It's mostly worked well and meant I've not had to spend 45-hour after washing my hair on threading ( don't get me wrong- I love threading! But sometimes I'm pushed for time and need an easy alternative). I've also added small elastic bands at the root of my sections to help stretch them out and stop shed hairs moving down to the ends. Every 2 weeks I do a finger detangle and take out the shed hair. All this (as well as simple styling) has meant less manipulation and breakage at the ends. How do you keep your routine simple? Would you ever wear your hair 'unstretched' #naturalista #naturalhairstyles #kinkyhair #4chair #naturalhairregimen

I posted a video of me doing my #locs and I have gotten so much feed back from it. I used different products but this products I used this time gave me some excellent results. .
.
.
I am obsessed with the @hydratherma Amino Plus Protein Deep Conditioning Treatment. I debated with myself a hour before I went ahead and put the mask on my hair. I felt like my locs was dirty and my scalp was begging for relief. I kept the mask on for about 20 minutes before washing it. My locs felt so clean and smooth and soft. They were also tangle free which I loved the most. .
.
I then let my hair air dry for about 8 hours before taking out the clips and putting on my bed time silk scarf. I've learned it’s not about length it’s about the healthy stage of your hair.

This is the complete cycle of a keratin treatment. I find that most people who get these treatments are not educated on the end result enough. This WILL NOT PERMANENTLY STRAIGHTEN HAIR it will however make hair more manageable, healthier and take less time for home maintenance. The end result is when the client washes for the first time to see the difference. I received this message today after three days and the first washing from my most recent keratin client. She is beyond thrilled and because she was educated on what to look for when washing and styling her hair she was able to know and understand the effectiveness of the treatment. @keratincomplex #keratintreatment #keratinesmoothingtreatment #beforeandafter #beforeandafterkeratintreatment

I get so many comments about my hair, so I decided to share here my hair routine and some tips😉
🌟 I never brush my hair when it's dry. Either while showering or I spray it with water first.
🌟I don't shampoo everyday. Once every few days is enough, to not dry the ends.
🌟I use heat max once a year.
🌟I add coconut oil before washing from time to time, it stimulates hair growth, makes the hair shiny and has many more benefits.
🌟I mash avocado, mix it with some oils (olive, coconut, aragan etc), add it all over my hair, wait for an hour and wash it off. (once a month is enough).
🌟I cut the dead ends once every few months.
So my tips are:
🏹 use minimum heat. It's the worst you can do to your hair.
🏹use hair masks.
🏹use organic products.
🏹use oils and home made hair masks.
🏹cut off the ends once in a while.
Hope I helped😉

I can’t believe the difference (volume, style ability, definition) I think the @olaplex treatment also helped IMMENSELY. do you SEE that curl pattern coming back? 😏
Pictures 1-5: washing & styling my hair for the first time since being at the salon (its 100% dry). I actually prefer this style to how I left the salon. I washed my hair with @ouidad moisture line & then cocktailed @devacurl Melt into moisture mask + seaweed repair mask and left it on in a shower cap for 45 minutes. After washing it out I used Supercream & the volumizing foam 🙌🏽
Picture 6: Immediately after my DevaCut
Picture 7-9: before 😖
In my opinion the DevaCut is definitely worth it, your stylist is showing you exactly what your hair needs and how you can work with it on your own and your cut is made so that your curls grow naturally and undisturbed. Hopefully I can stay away from the flat iron for a couple of months 😅 im torn between my love for volume or length 💔 #curlyhair #naturalhair #devacurl #ouidad #supercream #volumizingfoam #olaplex #hairmasks #newcurlswhodis

I’ve been obsessing over these @silkelements pure oils hair care products since March of this year and I must say my curls are loving them so much. The moisturizing detangling shampoo is so amazing!! It’s a gentle cleansing sulfate free shampoo that’s super moisturizing and it provides so much slip to be a shampoo while cleansing your hair and scalp all at the same time. The hair butter is also amazing and great for moisturizing your hair especially when wearing protective styles such as high buns, twists etc. I also love to use it as a prepoo before washing my hair because it gives my curls so much moisture making wash day much easier. Last but not least their moisturizing Marmalade Styling Cream Gel. It’s very moisturizing, helps eliminate frizz, elongates your curls and adds definition with a light to medium hold. My wash and go last a good 4-5 days with this gel. It pairs well with their leave in moisturizer and also it’s a very lite cream based gel. It’s also not greasy or drying to your curls and it doesn’t leave your curls crunchy at all. I think overall this is a good hair care line. Everything smells amazing!! The only thing I tried from this line so far that I didn’t find moisturizing was their intense hydration hair masque. I just didn’t feel like it gave my curls intense moisture like it claimed and the slip was okay. They have other products in this line that I’m going to try as well. These products are paraben, sulfate, silicone, mineral oil and petrolatums free. This is just my honest opinion. All products were purchased by me. You can find these products @sallybeauty. Xoxo

time-lapse of how I do that hair roll thang
.
I prefer the suicide roll over regular victory rolls as I feel this style suits my face shape better. I usually do the roll when it is super windy to save my bettie bangs from blowing all over. When my hair is close to needing a wash 🧟‍♀️Or just whenever I feel like mixing it up. Hiding the bangs and going for a different look
.
Why is it called the suicide roll? During the 1940s during WWII, women rolled the front of their hair and called it victory rolls, referring to the way fighter planes flew after winning a battle. Doing loops in the sky. These were rolled the opposite way to the suicide roll. There is no confirmation on this, but some say the suicide roll was possibly based on Japanese kamikazes during WWII, who were considered by some as suicide airmen. Maybe it was the more “goth” girls preferring the latter option 🤷🏼‍♀️ #sodark .
Works best 3 to 4 days after washing your hair. I make a square parting from the sides of my bettie bangs and across the middle, closer to the back. Then I use a flat iron or curling tong to create curls on that piece only. I use @paradehair rock set spray for the best curl creation. Then I back comb the piece, brush forward gently and mould into the desired volume I want on the bouffant part. Then work with the curls with @suavecitapomade to create the roll part. I usually do a barbie ponytail with it to complete the look. Again just by pulling it back and adding some curls. A personal favourite 💁🏼‍♀️

Fourteen years ago, on this day, my mother died. It's strange. Because on this day, I thought I would feel different. I woke up, and lit some candles, and made a cup of coffee, and sat down to think about her. But I don't feel different. Though only because I already think about her, and her death, and this day every other day of my life.
Fourteen years. In the fourteen years since my mother died, I cut my hair short thirteen times. I moved to Europe. I went to graduate school. I've fallen in and out of senseless, and sometimes beautiful ideas of love. I wrote a book -- well, a draft of a book, and I lived in New York City like she always wanted to do. I also buried my father, and then all kinds of things happened because, let me tell you, it is awful to bury your parents. And now, I don't know what I'm doing. But the point I want to make is that none of this seemed to have any significance while I was doing it all without her. It's as if, the way I was living, I was only going through the motions, waiting, waiting for her to come back, and see me, and wrap her arms around me to tell me that I did good, that I was good, and that she loved me, and that she was proud.
I remember the day when the knowledge of her death settled in. Then, nine years had passed. I was sitting at the kitchen table at my first apartment in Amsterdam. It was daytime. I remember the light which was bright, white, washing over everything, even me. It felt forgiving.
How it happened was that I wanted to hear her voice. But I couldn't remember it. And that's when the knowledge struck me hard. The pain of it was fast, and immediate, like her death, had just happened. I remember crawling into my bed and curling up into myself, and sobbing. It was the first time I really cried for her.
The last picture we ever made together was right before I drove my car across the country. I was 25. It was a whole month before she fell sick, and nearly two months before she died. Seven weeks to be exact. (Continued in below)

BDIY SCALP SCRUB TO GET RID OF DANDRUFF, ITCHYNESS 😱AND PROMOTE HAIR GROWTH 💁🏻 TAG 4 BESTIES 👯‍♂️
Song: Talking to you by beautiful Izzy Bizu 👌🏻
All I used:
🔸1/2 of Brown sugar 🔸3 tbsp of Olive Oil( full of antioxidants, natural moisturizer, anti-inflammatory soothing properties)
🔸4 tbsp of shampoo( Makes it easier to massage and remove it without leaving any residue)
🔸10 drops of Tea tree oil( antimicrobial, antiseptic, anti fugal properties)

Measurement changes depending on each person, so play around with the
ingredients and find the consistency that you like. 🔸I do this on my hair dry twice a month 😉🎈The Scalp is an extension of our face 🙍🏻and is considered SKIN👌🏻but we forget about our scalp just because it is covered with hair🙈but see it from this point we wash our face everyday right? but we do need more than washing our face in order to have better skin💪so we exfoliate, moisturize, tone it etc.
So same it happens with our scalp😳 it needs more than just washing it like we normally do,
it needs to be exfoliated to get it of product build up where most of the time is what causes
dandruff and itchiness, because some gels, hairsprays etc leave tiny amounts of residue everytime
we use them, besides the fact that the skin on our scalp is shedding faster than on the other parts of our body, and that is why it is very important to exfoliate and massaging it it to take the flakes off your head
and promote hair growth :). Also Dandruff can clog pores, and that could be another reason for hair loss and thinning hair 🤔

'Trying Lani for the first time. Here's my thoughts.... Tropical Cacao Detox Mask: contains only a few simple ingredients which are two types of clay, cacao powder, coconut water and milk powder, vitamin c, aloe powder and turmeric. It is a powder that you mix with water which transforms the powder into mousse. It looks and smells like chocolate mousse when it’s ready to go! I wanted to eat it! I kept the mask on for 20 minutes before removing with a wet washcloth. The turmeric and cacao did not stain my face. The end result was super soft, hydrated, and GLOWING skin. My skin was glowing the following day as well! All I want for Christmas is a case of this mask! 🐚Tropical Hair Treatment: this is a Treatment that you massage into dry hair and leave on as long as you like, even overnight. It is made of just 4 simple ingredients: camellia seed oil, coconut oil, kukui nut oil, and macadamia nut oil. I left it in for 45 minutes before using my usual shampoo and conditioner. I was impressed at how easily I was able to comb my hair after this treatment. It is sooo difficult for me to comb my hair after washing it, even when I use a detangler! The following day my hair looked and felt softer and had a nice shine. It did not look or feel greasy at all. I honestly like this more than my Olaplex treatment! Let’s add this to Christmas wish list too!'

For 19 months, I came up with excuse after excuse as to why I shouldn’t get my hair done. “Hazel will want to nurse…The girls will cry…Zoey has never been away from me for so many hours…it’s too expensive…I don’t really NEED a haircut…I have stuff to do in the house…” and dozens more, when the truth ... For 19 months, I came up with excuse after excuse as to why I shouldn’t get my hair done. “Hazel will want to nurse…The girls will cry…Zoey has never been away from me for so many hours…it’s too expensive…I don’t really NEED a haircut…I have stuff to do in the house…” and dozens more, when the truth was, I just didn’t think I was worth the time, the money, or even the effort. I let myself believe that leaving my kids to do something for myself was neglecting them. I had become invisible to myself, and that is a very dangerous hole to fall into. The whole thing was about much more than just my hair, it was about my confidence and self-worth. I didn’t feel deserving of having a 4-hour break to take care of myself. My husband noticed how self conscious I was about my hair and continued to insist, so much so that I finally gave in. As soon as I walked out of the house and closed the door, I was flooded with anxiety, regret and I became so stressed that I could not keep myself from crying. He disconnected the nanny cam so that I wouldn’t check in and worry. 2 hours in and I fell asleep in the washing chair. I read an entire magazine. I pinned DIY projects I’ll likely never do. I had warm coffee. When I finally saw the end result and how lively and strong my hair was, and then heard how well my kids were doing with my husband, I understood why self-care is so important. I was able to recharge for just a few hours and I finally felt somewhat worthy again, that I was seen and important to MYSELF. Valuing myself will be a daily battle for sure, but I made a promise to myself to at least try to do the things that bring me joy. Play my guitar more often, go out with my girlfriends every once in a while, and to not feel guilty for paying attention to myself. I encourage you to do the same. We will be much better moms when we find our worth and value ourselves. Know that you matter as a person more than you can possibly imagine. 💛

this is for you
.......................................................................................................... I just got blessed with two curly babies and unfortunately they didn’t come with a users manual 🤣 💛👇🏼 Here is our story
.........................................................................................................
It was about 2 years ago my favorite insta mama (@theprinceandthep ✨ forever my #1 gosh I ADORE you and your beautiful family) and her amazing posts woke me up and inspired me to step my hair game up lol. At the time we were living in NZ and it was almost impossible to find the right products. I was ALWAYS on the look out for new products and tips but 9 out of 10 times I failed.
RIGHT NOW day 1 after washing Ivy’s hair (3B) is BOMB. Every following day it’s all over the place and we just put her hair up. Most of the products DO work on Ty’s hair (3C)
..................................................................................................... The other day @saintcurl posted an article written by @curly.linz and like always I start doing some research hoping to find out something new but instead... my mind = blown. In two hours I’ve learnt more than I did in two years. @curly.linz knows so much about curls, she’s done so much research and is kind enough to share it with the rest of the world 🙏🏼 I joined the Curly Girls group on Facebook where girls all over Australia share product info and opinions and I’m SO excited. MY GOAL is to educate myself NOW and figure out exactly what’s right so I’ll be able to pass on all this information to my kids. Because one day this little chica is going to start doing her own hair and I just want her to understand her hair and love every inch of it
.........................................................................................................
So if you’re looking for answers it’s worth checking this all out! 💛✨ Thank you Shay @theprinceandthep for being my biggest inspiration and thank you @curly.linz for sharing your knowledge!

Let loose, have a glass... or bottle of wine, skip a workout, sleep in, eat cake... or donuts?
💁🏻‍♀️
I used to be an all or nothing person, I was obsessive, I missed out on things and I lost friends. On previous vacations I would portion out and pack 80% of meals, rise before seven to get my workout in, if we were out to eat I was difficult with my order. There is a time and a place for this... but this is not the time in my life.
👙
Stepping away from the stage has given me the opportunity to let my hair down, go with the flow and most importantly heal.
🏖
Going with the flow this week means:
☕️ instead of 🍵 on the deck every morning.
Washing my face and sunscreen instead of a 10 step skin care routine.
Walks on the beach instead of a workout in the gym.
Working for 2 hours instead of 8.
Full fat breakfasts 🥑 🍳 to keep me full for hours on the beach.
Humus & cucumber, 🍉 and 🍎 to snack on.
Lots of water and a few @whiteclaw.
Happy hours with bar bites and 🍷.
Splitting dinners with @paulthethings and ending the night with 🍦.
🙆🏻‍♀️
That’s how I’m letting loose this week, because I know when I get home I’ll crave my routine again, and my 🐶 @charleedogo!
What’s you’re perfect idea of vacation?! 👇🏼👇🏼👇🏼

•••
🎀 OGX / Biotin & Collagen / Shampoo + Conditioner

I've been using these for a few months and really liking them. They leave my hair feeling soft and clean. I love the smell too. What I don't like is the packaging, making it very easy to slip out of my hands. I also found that my hair gets greasy faster (I'm used to not washing my hair very often).
•••
🎀 Umberto Giannini / 60 second smooth* / Pre-shampoo treatment

A product I loved since the first use. I use it before shampoo, either on wet or dry hair depending on how much time I have. It leaves my hair very silky and soft. Though I did not notice reduction in frizz, I found that my hair is less tangled and easier to brush after a shower.
•••
🎀 Philips / Hair straightener

Not only does this look pretty, but also works well for my hair. It has three heat settings, but I always use the lowest setting. I do have to go over each section a few times with the lowest setting, but it leaves my hair very smooth and soft. I can also use it to curl my hair.

Umberto Giannini*
Philips

DAMN. TIME. 👏🏾
💁🏽‍♀️This is 1 of my fav ways to style my hair because its easy and requires NO HEAT! If youre giving your hair a break from heat styling then TRY this out cuz the spray mist im DIY’ing will:

1: Moisturize the HECK out of your hair + repair it
2: Help GROW ur hair
3: Make ur hair shiny
4: Smooth split ends + frizz
5: Control oil + prevents it from getting oily fast!
😍with this style, youll PROLONG your hair (less washing) and when YOU ARE ready to wash your hair..OMG! u will have THE SOFTEST, SHINIEST, HEALTHIEST looking hair EVER!
⭐️you DONT HAVE to style it like i am, you can totally use this mist and let your hair air dry, you can use this mist as a leave in then style your hair etc! This recipe is AMAZING for KIDS, husbands/bfs/gfs/partners who steal all your things + pretend like they dont use them..literally EVERYONE!
🔥ALL YOU NEED:
☔️spray bottle
💧Coconut water - I LOVE coconut water! I love drinking it, I love it as a toner, I love it in my hair.. ITS. THE. BEST.
🥑1/8 avocado oil (or any oil u have. olive works too!)
👍🏾1/8 flaxseed gel - to make this, boil 2tbsp of flaxseeds in water. Once the water turns gooey ur done! let cool, Strain seeds, enjoy!
🐸1 Himalayan salt crystal - You DONT HAVE to add this.. i personally like it cuz it gives my hair a little texture, but you can totally skip it!
🙏🏾SHAKE + MIX
(If you’re new to diy You can even skip every ingredient and JUST use coconut water.. it’s BOMB AF on its own too!)
😴Spray on your hair and style! im sectioning my hair into braids (im not corn rowing cuz i want the wave to start lower) + letting it set over night!
😊I like adding extra flaxseed gel to my roots and to the actual braid to get more hold but thats totally optional

WHICH STYLE DID U LIKE? 1 (hair all down) or 2 (half up pony)?👇🏽👇🏽👇🏽

Sooo for those of you who don't follow my personal instagram...I cut my hair off! 😩😩😩 It was time for something new and I wasn't taking care of my hair when it was long. I absolutely LOVE this look, I feel more mature. Lol I'm excited to start my hair growth journey again and enjoy each stage of growth. I haven't washed my hair yet since getting it cut, so I will be doing a reaction video on my YouTube channel to what my hair will look like curly after washing it for the first time. I'm so nervous & anxious about it, but I'm sure it'll be fun. Lol Also, I'm in need of some ppl to follow with twa's & short hair cuts 😳 Leave your recommendations below 😉 Thank you to @stylesbyshon for the the perfect cut. I love my curls. But sometimes I just need a break 😭 Natural hair styles are no easier than straight styles honey! I called myself washing my hair & rocking a knot out before going out. Chiiiiiiiile! My hair did NOT dry in time & came out sooo frizzy because of it 😩 I had to put my wig RIGHT back on after this & I was soooo pissed 😂😂

💛💛💛💛💛💛💛

The ONLY upside this day was the way my hair actually felt. I put the @farouksystems Chi Keratin Line to the test & I'm pleased to report my hair feels sooo incredibly soft & strong. I have a HUGE issue with dryness & breakage (due to relaxing I'm sure) so my hair is always in need of a good Keratin treatment for a little extra strength & nourishment

✨✨✨✨✨✨✨

I used the Chi Keratin Shampoo, Conditioner, Leave-In Conditioner, Silk Infusion AND the Styling Cream for this look. Upon unraveling my knots, my hair felt sooo supple, had lots of shine & the curl definition was just beautiful 😍 However, all of that went out the window once my hair fully dried. The result was crazy. No I'm not posting it. 😂😭 •
✨✨✨✨✨✨✨

So far, I'm pretty impressed with the way the @farouksystems Chi Keratin Line made my hair feel 👌🏾 Buuuuut I need to give it another try when I have more time to air dry. Or just sit in the car the next time 🤷🏾‍♀️ Anyone else hate air drying sometimes? 😩

This is my hair care routine that has really helped to grow my hair and feel ultra healthy. I get absolutely nothing for any of the products I mention. I want everyone that follows me and that I meet to really have wonderful hair and this is free advise with 100% pure intention. The Brands contact me to post and work together but that does not bother me the only thing I want to see is happy hair I am not bothered about commission, only products that really work. ❤️
.
.
1. Wash my hair in a colour lasting shampoo. As long as the quality is good then find one that works for you)

2. Whilst my hair is wet I remove all excess water with a towel or wrap my hair in a towel for 1-2 minutes.
3. I mix all my hair masks that I will be using in 1 small bowl. I like to mix a few together, a mixture of moisture & strengthening.
4. I place the mask on my mid- length and ends making sure all my hair is covered.
5. I leave it in for 1-2 hours wrapped in a towel. At this time I catch up on emails or watch t.v whatever you have to do but I feel leaving it in my hair really makes a huge difference. I don’t believe leaving a mask on for 5 mins can really do anything but this is my experience and those who have followed my routine.
6. After the time has passed I wash off again with shampoo to make sure all the product has gone and I finish by conditioning my tips to seal the cuticles. ( CONDITIONER IS SUPER IMPORTANT FOR ALL HAIR TYPES) just be careful on how you use it. It should only be on the mids & ends of the hair not the ‘roots’) 7. I then comb my hair starting from the tips and then work my way up, then I always apply a heat protecting spray and a strengthening hair serum no matter what. Even if I let my hair dry naturally I always use something on my hair after washing to protect it. Remember even our pillow case and hair ties can ruin and cause breakage to our hair so a protection spray or serum can act as a barrier even for the environment.
8. I air dry and smooth my hair then I curl with a medium @ghdhair tong and again apply a touch of serum on my tips to add shine and a teeny bit of @lorealhair elnett spray if I am going out x

I'm just over here counting down the days until PowerBaby #2 decides to make her grand entrance, tryna stay sane without my best stress reliever, that good ole iron therapy. Pregnancy rage is real yalI! I get overheated super easily, like from just sitting in the hot sun for a few minutes or walking long distances, so all workouts are off the table until I am recovered enough after birth. I had my hair cut into a curly shag to try and help with the heat and I'm starting to really like it! This pic is today on day 3 after washing, only refreshing with a tiny bit of conditioner and water. I had to change my #curlygirl products and routine from winter around completely, eliminating all glycerin, low-pooing instead of co- washing, and I don't need deep conditioning cuz I'm high porosity and it's 90% humidity out here erry day! I'm making and using flax seed gel as a leave-in and low-hold styler and experimenting layering that with mousse. Oh, and I got one of those salon chair hood dryers to cut down on diffusing time! I'm starting to get the hang of this #curlygirlmethod stuff after 8 months, haha! #curlygirlsrule #wavyhair #curlyhair #devacut #curlyshag #wavycurls #wavyhairstyle #wavy #wavyshag #wavybob #wavy

I’ve been using @batiste_hair since my festival days and recently got the Volume dry shampoo which is PERFECT for date days, nights out and more, it’s completely invisible, lightweight and gives the hair volume too. Couldn’t be happier to be working with them this month as I’ve been a long time fan!!! Hello bouncy fresh roots, even after the gym haha! Do you guys use dry shampoo? #RethinkDryShampoo

How I feel about myself on the outside is usually a reflection of how I feel on the inside. If I go a couple of days without washing my hair, it’s likely because I have’t had time, or you know…

I really just didn’t feel like washing and blow drying it. 🙄

Absolutely no gumption there to spend the hour doing it. If you are a woman and you have a ton of hair like I do, you’ll know what I’m talking about. If you don’t, follow along, I am sure there is something for you here.🙂
.
What I put on the inside of my body is also a reflection of how I am feeling about myself. Now I want to be clear about something here. Your weight does not define you, but what you put in your body and how you care for it absolutely does. I can attest to this. In the times of my life that I am avoiding things, my cheeks are a little rounder. This is usually a sign of more wine and Netflix or fun times and treats.

Whatever the case may be I always feel my best when I treat myself well. Sometimes when I get too far down the path I forget how to feel good again. To repair this, it can happen in small changes. It’s exercising when you haven’t in a while. It’s blow drying your hair when you don’t want to, or maybe as simple as doing your whole facial routine or spritzing some some perfume.

Can you relate to feeling pretty just after you’ve put on a new perfume, or even the perfume you’ve always loved? I don’t always wear perfume because I’m sensitive that it bothers others but it really is my secret tool to lift me up. That, and waking up with a squeaky clean face. Something about leaving yesterday’s grime behind. 😇

So with that on this 9th day of Day of Christmas 🎄 Giveaway, I want to give one lucky woman a Rejuivity skin system sample set.
All you have to do is:
✅Follow me
✅Tag 3 or more friends in this post
✅Comment below and say what makes you feel pretty!

Hi Insta friends 👋🏼 For the last couple months I’ve been working on a new thing. 🎉 It’s called @Bibs.live & it’s a site/page that I’ll update regularly with holistic health-related tips, tricks, & inspiration and just general real talk. .
I'll be posting/storying/connecting with people over @Bibs.live more regularly than on this profile so I'd love it if you’d follow me over there!
.
To give you a better taste of who I am & where I'm coming from with @Bibs.live, I shared 30 random facts about me on my site ( #linkinbio). Sneak peak at the first 20 below 😊
.
1. I’m in my twenties… a “millennial” if you will.
2. I work a 9-5 & take classes at night.
3. I love spicy foods.
4. I cry (a lot).
5. I laugh (more than I cry).
6. I have every intention of washing & straightening my hair every day, but it’s usually pulled back, frizzy & full of dry shampoo.
7. I’m a recovering binge-eater/purger & orthorexic.
8. I’m a raging introvert…but I also hate being alone for too long.
9. I have 1 tattoo.
10. I have an atypical form of Cystic Fibrosis, so my journey to health has been a rocky one.
11. My everyday post-work routine in 4 words: Bra off. Pajamas on.
12. Watching the news makes me sad & scared.
13. Top 3 TV shows: FRIENDS, The Office, Parks & Rec
14. If I could have 5 people over for dinner I’d invite Rob Bell, Liz Gilbert, Glennon Doyle, Brene Brown, & Oprah
15. I love to sing. In my head I have the voice of Adele, Demi Lovato, Mariah Carey, & India.Arie all beautifully mixed together, though I have been told that outside of my head I do not have that voice at all.
16. I hate the dark.
17. Extremes. I love them. Moderation is difficult for me, but I am learning.
18. I hate things so I own very little (this is one “extreme” I think I’ll stick with)
19. Sometimes waxing my eyebrows & shaving my legs feels like a colossal waste of time, but I do it anyway, because these are two cultural norms I have yet to get over.
20. I spent the first 20 years of my life addicted to self-sabotage. It’s still incredibly strange to wake up every day with a mind that no longer perpetually tears the rest of me down.
.
The rest are at the link in my bio :) See you @Bibs.live!

What does it mean to you?.
.
When you look at somebody’s page do you like to be able to relate? Do you like to see normal shit? (If that is even a thing!).
.
I like to follow people that are just honest with posts, that are not trying to be anything but themselves, somebody that possibly has similar likes and interests and somebody that I can relate to, which yes is going to be different for everybody. .
Somebody said not too long a go that they liked to follow my page because they know I’m a ‘real’ person, as in they had met me before, know what I am like and that then comes across in my posts. Which I suppose is my aim!.
.
Reality of this photo... I’ve not washed my hair for 3 days, neither have I worn any make up since Saturday. I’ve just finished an hours training session with a client, and now I have an 8 hour day in the office, I’ll then teach a class tonight and have a meeting with a new member!. .
Oh and also find time to go and have my lashes put back on because that is probably the only thing that stops me from looking like a complete BOY!, and then I’ll probably train myself and be in the gym until 10pm.
.
That for me is today’s reality! .
So where Am I going with this... 😂
Well it’s kinda just a little thought of the day to give a little perspective! Oh, and even with short hair I’m still lazy and cba with washing my hair because I think ‘we’ll it’s only gonna get sweaty again tonight’ 🙄😂

(Had to use my iPhone camera until my Sony is fixed) If you’re thinking of going lighter find a stylist that understands curly hair, take good care of your curls at home before and after, and of course make sure @olaplex is involved! To safely add more highlights @maja7359 used @olaplex N°1 in the lightener and used N°2 after washing it out. I did a N° 3 treatment the week before seeing her and will be using it again in another week! She also dusted my ends because I was noticing more shedding and breakage than usual! “When we started the process, I was so scared that my hair would get ruined. It took about 12 hours for the first round of dyeing my hair– we definitely took our time with it so it wouldn’t get damaged. The last time I went platinum, a few years back, I dyed it in one sitting and never gave it the proper time, so this time I sat there for 12 hours straight. Then, we did another 5-hour session. In the end, so worth it.

I had to spend a week with yellow hair, just Olaplexing it and conditioning it everyday, until we toned it and got it to lift to this amazing white-silver color. I’m so happy with it and want to keep it awhile!” — Kim Kardashian West 🌬 ————————————————————

Today Annalee is 2! I can't believe how fast the time goes by and some days I still can't believe that I am a mom, it still feels surreal that I would deserve this title and responsibility especially since it wasn't too long ago that I was missing half my morning classes in college, barely washing my hair, and now here I am, up promptly around 830 every day still barely washing my hair but being taught the life lessons of motherhood. I don't know what I am doing half the time, I don't have everything together, but one thing in my motherhood journey I knew from the start was I wasn't going to be an angry fear leading parent, I wanted peaceful parenting for her, and when we walk around and she addresses all young people as "friend", when she pats someone on the back when they cry, it warms my heart. She is such a caring soul, sometimes too caring as she will literally squeeze the stuffing out of anyone and anything, sorry doggies especially Ben and Newt. I can't wait to see where life takes her. We are raising one strong and loving girl, I am so proud to be her momma. I'm not sure where she is "educationally" I mean she can count to 3 and knows 2 words in Spanish so far and she really knows how to tell you when you have ticket her off, so we are so proud of our piglet. ❤ Feliz cumple nuestra hija.

How did I get my hair this color?💙 (Skip to end for directions--hair story below)
I get asked this a lot, especially in public😋 I have been having my hair bleached for years now. In the beginning of my blonde switch over from brunette, I went blonde over time (highlighting it slowly over 2 years or so to avoid any major damage.) This is how I obtained super long, heathy blonde hair from very dark brown hair.
After being golden blonde for a while, I began getting it bleached and removing the warmer blonde colors. I will be honest and say that this is where my hair obviously took a hit with some damage; however, my hair was still very healthy for being so light and people would say that all the time to me too.
I decided one day that I didn't want to be bleach blonde anymore and grow out my natural hair because of the damage it created at one point with a bad hairdresser (not my usual one.) Sooo I said, well, I don't want my roots to grow out with white hair cuz I will look like a skunk, so I'll just go blue! I've been grey and lavender, so yah, blue should be cool!
At first I was scared when I did it and tried to get it out because I was so concerned with what other people were going to think (I was being a baby)--and, well.. If you want blue, just know that it does not come out. It will fade, BUT it will not come out (hardest color to remove). And if you try to get it out completely with bleach or some color remover crap (yes, even if it says "damage free color remover"), just get ready to get a color correction haircut (aka a pixie haircut). So if you want blue, make sure you REALLY want it!
By the way, I fucking love it now and I want to seriously be blue forever haha I have never had so many compliments on my hair and its all for finally being okay with being myself 💙
💧I used sky blue and shark blue by Ion, mixed together with a bottle of hydrating conditioner and left it on for one hour (WEAR GLOVES in shower too when washing hair to avoid smurf hands). I add more color in about 2-3 times a month. The lighter your hair is to begin with, the higher the pigmentation. If you go back in my photos, you can see my hair was almost white!😊

My natural hair is wavy, super fine and frizzy, not unmanageable but all the chemical treatments have definitely caused serious damage over time. But I still manage to muster up the courage of experimenting with different hair textures and styles almost every other week only because I somehow feel taken care of with @kerastase_official ❤️ a single wash and conditioner hydrates my hair/takes away the frizz/ YET keeps movement in my hair intact.
My favourites
✨Kerestas Descipline Mask
I wear the mask a night before washing my hair so it has ample time to soak in. I use it on the ends and detangle it so my hair wash is stress free( long hair problems💁🏻)
💦Kerestas Discipline Shampoo
Does what it says, anti frizz yet very light!
✨ Kerestas Resistance Leave-in
Leave in conditioner + heat protectant+ hyderation for bleached ends 👌🏼
I strongly believe in the power of a "Good Hair Day" and #Kerestas makes it happen each time 💯

Anyways details & tips below: ▫️▫️▫️▫️▫️▫️▫️▫️▫️▫️▫️▫️▫️▫️▫️
🔹DEEP CONDITION: It's best to ensure your hair is clean and free of any product build up so washing and deep conditioning beforehand is a must! Heat styling appliances will strip the hair of moisture and break bonds within the hair so it's important to deep condition prior to heat styling, preferably with one that contains hydrolyzed proteins to strengthen the protein bonds in the hair. 🔹AVOID BLOW DRYING: limiting the amount of heat sessions will always reduce your chances of damage so opt to air dry your hair and choose a heatless method to stretch out your curl pattern such as a bun, braid, twists, banding method, African threading, or roller set. She did two braids to stretch out her curl pattern (same as mine)🔹HEAT PROTECTANT: creates a barrier between your hair and the heat appliance, reducing your chances of heat damage. Used @silkelements MegaSilk Olive Heat Protection Spray
🔹CHOOSE THE RIGHT TOOL: less passes the better so be sure to use a straightener that will get the job done on the first try! Opt for one made out of ceramic or titanium for even heat distribution. It's best to pick a heat styling appliance with multiple temperature settings, the more specific the better, (avoid the straighteners with a simple ON/OFF function). Used a CHI titanium flat iron set at 380F, linked it in my #instastory🔺NOTE: HEALTHY hair burns at 451F. If your hair is dry, brittle, always breaking off and damaged then it’s probably best to avoid heat styling completely!! #naturalhair #naturalhaircare #curlyhair #flatiron #healthyhair

co washing with @mielleorganics ✨
I love co-washing especially after working out for a week or wearing my hair in a bun for a few days. co-washing is short for “conditioner-only washing.” It means skipping shampoo and relying solely on conditioner. It makes my curls smoother, softer, & easier to manage while still cleaning them. If need be, i apply a clarifying shampoo to my scalp. I shampoo one week & co-wash the next. @mielleorganics co-wash took out my tangles quickly allowing me to make time for my everyday errands like staying fit! it smells great & left my curls feeling clean & soft✨
do you prefer co-washing?

I included this in three parts so that I could make sure I was as detailed as possible! My biggest tips are to 1. Use a protein based leave in to strengthen your hair since the wand will be in contact with it for an extended amount of time, and 2. To use a moisturizing conditioner that won’t give you frizz. I used @aphogee’s keratin and green tea restructurizer as a protein base to strengthen my hair and then @camillerosenaturals’s Moroccan Pear conditioner to moisturize. I loved using this because it was super moisturizing but didn’t leave my hair greasy or put me at risk for frizz (since it doesn’t have glycerin: KEY for heat styles on natural hair!) I also recommend as always to 3. Style your hair from twists! If you have a kinkier texture, this will save you loads of time on detangling, stretch your hair, and keep it manageable! Lastly, 4. skip out on that wanna-be lame ass king of pop glove that comes with the wand and use the tail of a rat tail comb to guide your hair off of the wand. This way, you can move quicker through your hair, but you also won’t burn your hand. 😊 Total styling time was 4-5 hours without washing and conditioning. I slept in a bonnet (my fav is by @ashbury_and_eighth) and this style lasted me a week! Hope you found this helpful and happy wash weekend to y’all! .

I started off by co-washing my hair with this amazing softening co-wash which I absolutely loved. I could even detangle my hair with it. Next was the curl-defining moisture mask which I left on for 30 minutes with a shower cap and rinsed with cold water. My hair felt so soft after. To style I used the leave-in conditioner followed by the gel. I allowed my hair to air dry but I was not impressed. I think it’s the styling products.😫My hair was hard and crunchy and not as defined despite using a 1/4 bottle of hair milk on my really short hair. I couldn’t really feel it doing anything for my hair. I decided to give the range another try but this time incorporating the @leestaffordhair growth treatment which normally softens my hair, as well as the @macadamiahair healing oil which helps retain moisture, used even more hair milk and less gel, but my results were still bad. For some reason the hair at my roots didn’t curl properly. The 2nd time I diffused and it ended up looking even worse. There’s been so many positive reviews about these products but alas, I could not get them to work for me and my hair type. This routine was a definite fail. And 2nd day hair is bun life for sure.

If you read my previous post, you’d know that I wasn’t kidding about not washing my hair…or brushing it...🤷🏼‍♀️whilst on my Nova Scotian adventure. 🔥🔥🔥
This is an image of the birthday ritual that I plan to keep in some form moving forward.
The idea came this winter after a waitress told me that she burns her xmas tree with little notes of regret to usher in each new year. It made me laugh, the idea of burning a “tree of regrets”, but the concept stuck with me.
I know people often burn their journals (not there yet), but I do love a good fire and I love the idea of ritualizing the whole out-with-the-old sort of thing.
But, I dont like the idea of ‘regrets', so I wrote down all the things/feelings/emotions that I wanted to let go of this year and I burned them in a bonfire on the beach.
I don’t know if I’ll have access to a fire-pit every birthday, but I can tell you there was a feeling of empowerment that came with this “ceremony” and I encourage some of you to try it, if you have access to a fire, next time you are ushering in something new. ( #safetyfirstplease)

I had never washed them & they started tangling easily from a buildup of the kids detangler I use to comb out all of my hair extensions. So, I finally washed them for the first time since January when I originally bought them with my new @remysoft_solutions shampoo & conditioner, which is a #sulfatefree product system directly invented for the care of any sort of #hairextensions as it will not strip the hair of it’s silicone coating. A silicone coating is added to ALL hair extensions to give the hair the illusion of health. Even the highest quality hair extensions aren’t really 100% #remy (there is no quality rating association & system like the FDA for hair, YET) so the silicone coating is necessary to keep the hair from sticking to itself & matting. You know when hair extensions get old & start tangling like crazy? That happens because although companies SAY that their hair is #remyhair, it isn’t. Remy means the hair is added to the hair extension as it’s cut off the head, so that the cuticle is all facing down like it grows off of our heads. Wigs and hair pieces aren’t made from one head of hair unless they cost thousands and thousands. The hair on most all extensions is fallen hair that is cut & then combed out however it lands & is mixed all together from multiple heads before it is decolorized & recolored. In short, hair extensions are VERY damaged & a silicone coating makes the hair look more healthy & last longer. Using hot tools without a proper heat protectant will burn off this coating & washing with sulfates will simply remove it. Then the hair extensions are ruined. So I am so happy that I discovered the #remysoft product line!!! Anyway, after carefully washing & conditioning I lightly scrunched with no product on the hair & laid the tracks to try over the edge of my claw foot tub & I love the textured results! I’ve never tried this before with straight extensions! Try it yourself & tell me what you think!? #fancyhairextensions #remyhairextensions #remyhaircare #haircare #texturedhairextensions #wavyhair #wavyhairextensions #weaveislife #weavehair #weavehairstyles

Yesterday I shared a picture of my washday and I mentioned a deep conditioner I tried for the first time. It’s the Obia Naturals deep conditioner. —> 1st picture: Obia Naturals Babassu deep conditioner, packaging and ingredients looked promising.
—> 2nd picture: applying the product on my hair, it was just sitting on my hair, did nothing. Application was ok but it just sat on my hair.
—> 3rd picture: product rinsed out after deep conditioning for 30 mins under my steamer. I already noticed that my hair did not feel deep conditioned...
—> 4th picture: towel dried my hair with a T-shirt for like 5mins and my hair felt super dry😳
—> 5th picture: Look how dry my hair looked...it usually takes forever for my hair to dry after washing and styling it.
I was disappointed, because the product did nothing for my hair...it dried my hair out and a waste of my precious time, because washing my hair takes a few hours. I have low porosity, low density and fine hair, unfortunately this product did not work for my hair.😔

Thankful for @tktrichokare, I get to celebrate mother's day with clean scalp and smooth glossy mane 😍😬 To working mummies, time is precious us.. Work, spend time with hubs, kids and the list goes on... We often neglect our appearance... 😬
Now I count on the professional Trichologist to facilitate my treatment at Trichokare 😍♥ With European herbal hair remedies - customized treatments targeted at individual hair and scalp conditions, the treatment really helps fight hair problems like oily scalp, hair loss, dandruff and greying hair 👍👍 During my visit to Trichokare, lens that magnifies up to 200 times was used to analyze my scalp condition before recommending the most suitable treatment for me.
The revitalising hair bath was refreshing to my scalp and helped to restore its sebum balance 😍 Although, my hair is very thick, it’s depressing to see them fall. Super love the hot pad relaxation that helps to reduce stress that leads to a common cause of hair loss 😍
Throughout the day, my scalp felt really fresh and clean. Even without washing my hair for a few days, my scalp was not even itchy and I experienced little hair fall over the days!
Especially for working mothers like me who are usually pressed for time and end up not washing our hair, this treatment goes a long way in helping you achieve a healthy scalp 👍👍👍 Trichokare, the multi-award winning hair and scalp centre, is offering the treatment that I experienced at $40! 😱😱😱 The treatment also includes Free Tricho Tech and hairGRO serum worth $745!!! 😱😱😱 That’s a 95% discount!! So good deal where to find?!?! 😍😍😍 Click on this FB link www.tk-hair.com/pearlang to sign up now! You can also find the link on my IG bio NOW!

HAPPY MOTHERS' DAY mummies! ♥♥♥

I get asked all the time if my hair is real or extensions and how I maintain it - so ima let you in on some secrets 😉✌🏻

Heck yes it’s all my own natural hair which honestly is good and bad. Good because I don’t worry about clips or extensions, bad because I always have long hair meaning curling it or styling it is a pain in the ass so I usually just stay boring and straighten it out of laziness.
..........
How does this mane stay tame? (especially since I’m not naturally this blonde and therefor prone to breakage 😭) = I cant be bothered to wash it more than once a week because of the time commitment it takes to wash/blow dry/style. By not over washing my hair, it retains the natural oils and moisture for proper growth and overall healthiness. Yeah my hair looks ratchet come Day 6-7 but that’s what dry shampoo and ponytails are for 😂😂 also, for people who get oily hair quickly - avoid conditioner on your scalp (it gets enough oil already) and only condition from ears down.
..........
ALSO! I always blow dry my hair within 15 min of getting out of the shower. If I let my hair naturally air dry not only do I look like a not so hot mess, but my scalp looks flat and oily within a day or two! Why? I dunno man science. Lol blow drying it right away prevents this plus I get awesome volume before it goes flat the next day cause I still don’t understand how to backcomb ✌🏻
..........
How does it stay so blonde? Well my friends. Purple shampoo that bad boy every week to get rid of yellow tones. Just don’t leave it on too long or you’ll hair will be a bit purple until next washing (been there lol)
..........
One final piece of advice for those who are trying to grow out their hair but “can’t”. Do you get roots???? Well if you do your hair is most certainly growing. Do you get it cut/trimmed every time you see your stylist? Lol well there’s your answer. Stop cutting your darn hair if you want to grow it out lol! It only grows about .5 inch a month and then you cut it all off?? You don’t get split ends that quickly and trust me this doesn’t help your hair grow faster 😉😜

Last spring I began oil training my hair, a process in which you slowly train your hair to last longer between washes to use less product, lessen your environmental impact ♻️, and bring natural body back to your hair. It’s also a huge time saver ⏰ I successfully went from needing to wash my hair daily to only washing every 7-8 days. My hair never looked and felt so great.
.
This worked for a little over a year, until this spring, I noticed layers of skin around the front of my scalp falling off. It was like dandruff, but without the itch of normal dandruff. I intuitively knew it was from oil training buildup: working out 6 days a week without wetting or washing and constantly wearing it in a bun was causing my scalp’s pH levels to get out of wack. Plain and simple, my hair needed extra TLC, and I knew that meant more frequent washes.
.
I started washing my hair every 3 days, adding a few droplets of tea tree essential oil to my bottle of shampoo to help prevent dead skin buildup. I did an apple cider vinegar rinse 1x a week too (dilute 1/4 cup ACV with 1 cup water, let sit in hair after shampooing for 5 mins then rinse). Within 2 weeks, my scalp issue was back to normal.
.
This is not to say that all sorts of scaly or irritated scalps can be healed this way. The lesson here for me is to always keep my body guessing. Change is constant. What worked last year won’t necessarily work today. What even worked yesterday might not work for me today. Always stay open to new messages your body subtly (or not so subtly) sends you. Maybe another time down the road I’ll stretch the limits between washes, but for now, my scalp and I are loving a 2x weekly wash. #LFAcleanbeautyhacks #oiltraining

To finalise this series I would like to touch on the importance of TLC during pregnancy! Care for yourself and asked to be cared for whenever possible.
It is not a time to live how you use to, it’s a time of rest and slowing right down to allow your body to work on what’s important (growing your baby). Don’t feel bad for taking a million naps, you need it, don’t feel bad for cancelling on your friends last minute because you’re exhausted, you body is going through a huge shift! Don’t feel bad for not being able to do everything on your own, you’re carrying a human inside of you! I remember in my last month I was calling Ts name a thousand times a day to do this that and the other for me. I was requesting help and support wherever possible. My mum was even washing my hair during this time :)
Just remember that things are changing and it’ll never go back to how they were so get ready for a brand NEW beginning. Keep your space clean and be around those who speak kindly and have positive attitudes, last thing you need is a horror story weeks before your due date. I’d literally stop people mid convo if I felt they were about to talk crap lol.
Once the baby is here, you may feel overwhelmed with the change so the more you’re aware that this shift is going to happen the better you will handle it.
Hope you enjoyed this series! If you’d like to look back on them just go to #themillisandchickpea , you can also find the previous series there (“The things I didn’t know about having a newborn”)!
The series next up! 👉🏼 “ How we coped with our new borns needs and stayed sane” ☺️ stay tuned!
