The Sage of Mamelodi, extracts from a text I wrote after visiting Tabane on August 29, 2015

I nurture an ongoing research project that comes with me wherever I happen to be. As soon as I arrive in a city, I ask: who are the pioneers here, the contemporary witnesses who have seen a whole century with their eyes? The artist Rosemarie Trockel once gave me this advice when I was still a teenager. She said: you have to meet old visionaries, and learn from their wisdom. Since then I have done this always and everywhere, most recently in South Africa when I asked artists and architects who had the greatest influence on them. All roads led to Philip Tabane. That given, next we had to seek him out. This was not entirely simple, for he lives in a very secluded way in a simple house in the Mamelodi township near Pretoria.
Miles Davis once called Tabane the greatest living guitarist and asked him whether he was will- ing to play for him, which Tabane refused to do—he did not want his identity to be lost in Davis’ shadow. However, they did then appear together in the 1970s when Tabane spent a few years living in New York, and also played with Herbie Hancock and Charles Mingus. He always rejected categories such as Jazz, Rock ’n’ Roll, or even Malombo, an independent South African Jazz tendency that Tabane created and personified. He told me that for him music-making was not a job resulting in specific products which the music business then converted into cash. Rather, he himself was the music; he lived it. It came from his parents’ house where his mother, a healer, freed the ill of their pains by rituals and chanting. His mother had not sought out her work any more than he had: the gift of healing had been visited on her, just as music had come upon him.

As I reflect on 2018 I’ve realised I’ve changed quite a bit and I’m really proud with what I’ve accomplished throughout the year. I wrote a lot more music. Helped a lot of lost teens find music and through a lot of perseverance from them staying in school and fundraising was able to gift them with their own instruments. During a drumming workshop at a school I did accidentally asked a group of thirteen year olds if they were ready for a “filthy beat with Yas”, but that’s one of the moments I’m leaving in 2018 😂. I spent a lot of time tutoring and volunteering in schools! I got back into painting! I become lot more involved with politics and our community, this meant I joined numerous groups, did a lot of charity and volunteer work, walked in a lot of charity walks and raised a fair amount of money for different charities and organisations✌🏽. I graduated from uni and then continued to study at uni. I worked for uni a lot this year and got the opportunity to do some lecturing which was dope. I was the President for our Student Association and our campus hosted the leadership conference which turned out a success. I did a lot more travelling and haven’t saved any money because of it! I took a lot of pics 😉I’ve gone through some health complications during this year and a lot of emotions 🙄. I’ve decided that 2019 is going to be a year that I really need to work hard in all areas of my life. 2019 I will continue to grow. I am going to stop trying to control every aspect of my life and live in the moment ❤️

He was an amazingly talented actor and I was fortunate to have known him. 7 years ago I worked on this film with him which was a blast. I remember driving back from A shoot in Chicago and seeing him on a giant billboard and sent him the pic to make him how proud I was. I recently assisted David Rams with his farewell message which was very difficult but rewarding to send out his message of love that he is always right there if we need him (link in bio). Very grateful to be able to have said good bye in person with a great showing of all his family and friends. Hold the gate for us brother... we will join you and our other loved ones soon 😇🙏 #gelstrong #forever ✊ .

Pretty emotional night tonight paying tribute to Dan Treacy. I discovered the Television Personalities around 2004/5 and that was my Sex Pistols moment in that I realised I could make music, I could sing in a working class London accent about amusing and mundane things and it was totally acceptable.... This led to several failed attempts to be a musician. The music I created in the style of the TVPs helped me process feelings of extreme love and extreme heart break both of which I had trouble processing before and the uneasiness of bot often made me act like a dick. I once did a wee next to Dan and was invited to record a song on the tribute album "if I could write poetry I would" but after an email exchange with Dan where he called me out for being a dick (I was) I never did. It was fitting it was at the 100 club I think where I first saw the TVPs with @chippedvarnish and others and Alan McGee was DJing which took me back to the death disco days at Notting Hill arts club. Thanks Dan for everything.

Before most of you all knew me, I was obsessed with the gym. Obsessed with extremely low calorie foods. Obsessed with perfection. Before you knew me, I was 90lbs, blacking out everyday from malnutrition, letting my body waste away and kill itself. Before you knew me, I had an eating disorder. I was #anorexic ... I was diagnosed with a form of anorexia called #anorexiaathletica . Anorexia Athletica also referred to as hypergymnasia, is an eating disorder characterized by excessive and compulsive exercise. I was obsessed with fitness. I wanted to be an NPC Bikini competition. I wanted to be perfect. In the mirror I only saw imperfections. I saw fat, I wanted to be 0% body fat (which is extremely unhealthy, obviously...). The disease wasn’t apparent to me until after I was suffering from it for over a year. I was at my lowest weight, my mom would cry to me telling me she could feel every bone in my body. Friends would tell me I looks horrible and unhealthy. It wasn’t until I started blacking out, becoming unbearably frail, and my hair began coming out in clumps for me to realize that something major was wrong... 😔 I knew I needed to change something quickly or else I could potentially kill myself. Without the help from any medical professionals or therapists, I was able to self treat and overcome my disease. Something that saved me was music. If it weren’t for going to music events/festivals, I may be dead right now. Music got my mind off the disorder, it got me to go have fun and feel comfortable with who I am and how I look. It got my to enjoy foods late nights with friends. Music saved my life. Music helped me recover from something that many never recover from. Eating disorders are serious conditions. If you have one or think you may have one, please, I urge you to reach out to anyone. Send me a message, I can talk to you. I don’t ever want to see anyone have to go through what I went through 2 years ago. You are strong. Overcome it. Your mind is a powerful tool. Food is important & music saves lives. ❤️🎶 #eatdisorderrecovery #anorexiarecovery #recoveredanorexic #edrecovery #eatdisorder #anorexiawarrior

It’s probably happened to you: You record an awesome combo that went perfectly to a track you just discovered during class, or that has been on repeat for you. You trim it, filter it, and post it and then BAM it’s threatened to be removed or muted because of supposed copyright infringement.

I’m here to tell you that, more often than not, you do have the right to do what you just did. I’m not a legal scholar or an attorney, but I have studied copyright laws from professionals in the entertainment industry. The bottom line is that our piddly 60sec insta videos of rehearsals generally fall under Fair Use.
So long as you are not directly profiting from the video (posting the video as an ad for your class/workshop/studio/etc.) or using the music to promote/discredit someone else’s art or event, you are probably using the music fairly. Further, if you have actually paid for the music you are using (whether as a organization paying ASCAP/BMI-type fees, or you bought the song), this is one of the privileges of that purchase. AS LONG AS YOU’RE NOT USING IT TO MAKE YOUR OWN PROFIT.

Of course there are grey areas, but this is why our videos get blocked - so the ‘owners’ of the music can evaluate your specific case. Whenever my content is up for dispute, I simply state something like ‘This falls under fair use. I have paid for the music and am not seeking profit’. It is always good practice to credit the song/artist in the original post with a tag of some kind. Or, if the music isn’t critical (cause you can hear conversations and whatnot in the background), simply mute your own audio before you post it.

Finally, if you have produced a larger project of which an artist’s content is an important part (say, a high-quality video with their music solely as audio), it’s a good idea to reach out to the artist and ask for permission before sharing online. Yes, uber-famous artists are harder to get a response from, but that’s all the more reason to keep it local 😉

Happy posting! ✌🏾 .

Monmouth is a historic market town alongside the River Wye, it is full of character, culture, attractions, shops and brilliant places to eat and drink.

The high street is full of independent shops, cafes and restaurants, including the wonderful @greenandjenksgelato cafe which sells exquisite homemade gelato. There is also the Savoy Theatre, the oldest working theatre in Wales which shows a range of film, comedy, music, theatre and dance.

Don't miss walking across the 13th century Monnow Bridge, the only gated bridge of its type in Britain and visiting the ruins of the eleventh century Monmouth Castle, the birthplace of Henry V, the victor of Agincourt. You can also see Great Castle House built in 1673 which houses a regimental museum and visit Monmouth Museum which features a collection of artifacts associated with Admiral Nelson.
Then go up the hill to The Kymin, a round house built in 1794 now run by the National Trust which has incredible views of the surrounding countryside and even the Brecon Beacons!

Monmouth is one of the highlights of the Wye Valley and we're sure there is plenty to peak your interest. Find out more at: http://www.wyedeantourism.co.uk/discover/About%20Us/t-3637%7Ct-1567%7C/i-4477-Monmouth__Trefynwy

Ferry Corsten has released a steady flow of new music, and has eight full-length studio albums under his belt, namely: ‘Looking Forward’ as Ferry; ‘Out Of The Blue’ and ‘Together’ as System F; and ‘Right Of Way’, ‘L.E.F.’, ‘Twice In A Blue Moon’, ‘WKND’ and most recently ‘Blueprint’ as Ferry Corsten. These eight killer albums have yielded more than their share of Gold records, including ‘Punk,’ ‘Out Of The Blue’ and ‘Rock Your Body Rock’. 2016 acclaimed ‘Hello World’ EPs solidified him as an ever-relevant presence in trance music, demonstrating his consistent ability to stay ahead of the curve. ‘Hearts Beating Faster’ ft. Ethan Thompson became one of most revered tracks from the EP, charting high in radio playlists worldwide, finding extended support across the scene’s biggest spinners and to date receiving in excess of 3 million streams on Spotify. That year saw Ferry nominated for an International Dance Music Awards (IDMA) as fans put their support behind him being named ‘Best Trance DJ’ - once again proving the longevity of his talents.⠀

2018 saw Ferry launch his new project UNITY, a concept in which he will collaborate with iconic trance acts throughout the year with the vision of uniting the trance community for a bigger cause. Ferry has partnered with VH1’s Save The Music Foundation for this, an organization formed with the intention of reinstating music programs in schools which to date has helped over 2,100 schools The first track saw Ferry team up with icon Paul Oakenfold for ‘A Slice Of Heaven’, and the second release came in May alongside Flashover regular DIM3NSION entitled ‘Safe With Me⠀

Today is my last day of owning Roots, and I've decided to share a story with you.

When I moved to NYC, I was 75k in student loan debt. It seemed everyone I met was killing it in some startup company, and I barely had money to eat peanut butter sandwiches. I had a job at a cafe, but didn't make enough money to pay off the loans, which was weighing me down so much that I didn't want to do anything that cost money because it would just put me more in debt. This went on for a while. I decided to leave the cafe and search for a better paying job. I journaled to God that if he'd provide a way to get me out of debt, I'd move anywhere or do anything. The wait was long, but I eventually started temping for a hedge fund that offered me a full time gig that allowed me to pay off 75k in 13 months. The same month that I paid off the loans, Roots came on the market for nearly the same price as my bonus amount.
The timing and kindness of God has blown me away so many times. In my search to get out of debt, I prayed to God for a rescue, which I needed in a real way. I think one of the funniest parts is that I thought owning a cafe, one of my biggest dreams for as long as I can remember, was a gift to me, but it's actually been for you all along. And any good you've ever seen in me was just God, the kindness of God. A wise friend @kylecruzmusic taught me that.

This dream has been so vastly fulfilled that it's spilling into the next dream. After some much needed rest and time spent driving across the US in attempt to make a babe ;), we plan to eventually look for land upstate to start an airbnb cabin called Rooted. This will allow me to work on music full-time, my biggest and first dream, while staying rooted with all of you.
I love you all.❤️ Thank you for exceeding my expectations.

| BTS’s Jin Turns “Music Bank” Entrance Into Runway With His Eye-Catching Fashion, Big Hit Explains The Story |
-
BTS’s Jin surprised fans (and the press!) when he appeared at “Music Bank” in an outfit that really stood out!
-
Each week for KBS’s “Music Bank,” photographs are taken of the artists as they arrive to perform at KBS Hall. Although usually artists arrive in comfortable clothing, they sometimes stage special events by wearing memorable outfits for the photos.
-
On August 31, BTS arrived at KBS Hall for “Music Bank” in mostly casual wear — except for Jin, who made an unforgettable entrance when he exited their van in a 1980s-style flashy white suit with gold designs, and he’d also completed the outfit with a pair of silver heeled boots. The look was one that he wore in a concept photo for BTS’s “Love Yourself: Answer,” which they’re currently promoting.
-
BTS often has fun making members who lose games on their shows carry out a penalty, like for example having Jin wear a traditional outfit to the airport in 2017. Just like then, photos of his surprising outfit created a stir as people wondered what the story was behind his look, and many thought he might be doing another penalty at “Music Bank.”
-
However, it turns out that Jin’s fashion choice was actually his idea! A source from Big Hit Entertainment explained to Star News, “Jin wore that outfit as part of his personal surprise event for fans.”
-
BTS is currently promoting their track “IDOL” on music shows before they head out to perform at international stops on their sold-out “Love Yourself” world tour. They’ll next be taking the stage at “Music Core” on September 1, followed by “Inkigayo” on September 2.

I liked his cavernous knowledge of music and film and he liked that I could get albums and books before they were released. I plied him with advance copies in exchange for reviews. I lost count of how many rows we had over the piles of stuff he accumulated by his desk which you'd trip over. He worked furiously. I never saw anyone break laptops like that... just wear them out.
Gary wielded a razor-sharp dry wit and natural comic timing. There was a girl we sort of knew who would just come and hang out in the office in Soho for no apparent reason... we soon clocked. He combined good taste with a kind of fascinated, studymaster passion and a hardcore sensibility. He'd reference things we'd never heard of, but there was an underlying reason he knew this stuff. Gary embraced the arcane, the uncompromising, the difficult. I remember during a screening of a boxing documentary the audience grimaced and hid as Mike Tyson admonished a particularly brutal and unsparing punishment… I turned and Gary was stifling howls of laughter. We'd both written for magazines so I loved when he’d publicly expose cheap late paying rags. Hours of illuminating music chat… ruminating on theories the day MJ died… going to Japan... great times. Gary was a unique soul and is going to be very deeply missed.

Finally show a full @missmargoprice show and she was incredible! She is an amazing performer with a top notch band. Also @timmytychilders opened for her. This guy is amazing! If you haven’t listened to him yet, you should probably change that.
Saw @luceromusic again for their 2nd performance. Got to see @langhorneslim open for them, which was great to see.
I was lucky enough to get to see @stpaulandthebrokenbones play a record release show @thebasementeast and it was great! The talent and showmanship from this band is incredible!

Got to see the GOAT of Americana Music @theryman two more times this year, @jasonisbell and the 400 Unit. They know how to put on a show. It’s always a great time when I get to see these guys.
Got to see one of my favorites for his hometown Thanksgiving perforce, the great @willhoge. This man has one of the best voices you’ll ever hear.
Checked out the @storytellersmuseum and got to see a mini performance by @johnnycash nephew @markalancash. He was really cool and the museum and home is a great place to see for any Cash fan.
Got to finally see a show at the new location of @bluegrassunderground, now @cumberlandcaverns. @johnanderson was great to see along with the other guys who played with him.
Finally, I saw @elvis Christmas, which was the first time I’ve been to @thenashvillepalace. The guy who sang Elvis songs was on the money! He was really good.
Hopefully I get out to more shows in 2019. I know there are already some bands and shows coming to Nashville venues I want to see. Now everybody get out and see some shows, your souls will thank you! *Not all pics are mine. I'm hoping to get back on here a bit more over Christmas as I've got some posts planned, but we'll see what my brain fog thinks about that.

Yesterday we went to do the last bits of Christmas shopping (everything else was done online) and although I was dreading it I was also excited about getting out the house. It turned out pretty easy but I'm putting that down to careful planning. I wrote a list of exactly what I needed, where it was from and the order of shops to go in to make it as quick and stress free as possible. We got it done really quickly and thankfully there were hardly any queues.
We went for a late lunch at @turtlebayuk #turtlebaymiddlesbrough which was a lovely way to finish the afternoon. Food was amazing as always, delicious virgin cocktails and it was great for accessibility. The staff moved the chairs so my wheelchair could fit under the table (a lot of places you cant due to size, shape, table legs and tables being too close together) and the toilet was easily accessible. Only issue was the music was loud (we did have to shout across the table a bit) and it caused me sensory overload by the time we left (and that was a good day, often i wouldnt have cope for even a few mins with it) but other than that we really enjoyed it and I got some much needed time out the house.

Today it's taken me 4 hours to get up and make a cuppa which put me straight back to bed again. Can't have fun without the payback! Hoping I can manage to wrap a few things in bed later. I don't enjoy it and always make a mess of it so usually just put things in bags, but had a clever idea to handmake decorations this year so I'm going to have to use them 😂
How's everyone else managed their shopping and wrapping?

The latter part of 2017 was probably the lowest I felt in my life and I never knew what depression and anxiety was until I hit that point. I was in really bad health both mentally and physically and I decided to take pretty much the whole of 2017 out of making music because of I was in the worst mental place to be creative and I was on the edge of giving up on music entirely. ⁣

The start of this year I decided to get back on track with things just one step at a time, first was to get back in shape and focus on my health. I made a lot of changes to my diet and began working out every day which I continue to do now. I also cut down the partying massively (I still party as I love it haha, just when I have a reason to celebrate). I changed up the way I approach making music with my work ethic and creative process and the first song that came out after these changes was “U” which I’m still overwhelmed over its success. ⁣

So I’m really happy to announce my next chapter with the exclusive signing with @armadamusic and my new single clockwork. I have some of my best remixes ever coming out this month and an amazing vocal single + some insane collabs in the works. ⁣

I thought I’d tell you all this because if anyone out there is going through dark times there’s always a light at the end of the tunnel and you’ll be stronger than ever if you have a will to wanna better yourself. ⁣

Thanks to all my amazing friends who were there aswell, you legends!⁣

Much love and see you on all the dance floor soon! Let’s smash it x ❤️⁣

Spotify @spotify responds to Nicki Minaj’s @nickiminaj Claims of Unfair Treatment

Spotify, in a statement to Variety @variety, has reacted to Nicki Minaj‘s comments about the company’s unfair treatment to her. “Spotify supported Nicki Minaj with a Times Square billboard, a host of the largest playlists, New Music Friday and the new music release shelf. Her song ‘Bed’ actually saw an increase based on the promotions put behind the campaign. The company continues to be big fans of Nicki,” a rep told Variety.

Nicki Minaj, who took the number 2 spot on Billboard’s album chart, had called out the company, saying it penalised her for debuting the album on Apple Music.

She had also accused Travis Scott, who took the number 1 spot, of artificially inflating his numbers through ticket bundles.

Minaj also said that a sales bundle of Scott merchandise and concert-ticket access skewed the numbers in his favor, although she used similar tactics in her roll-out. She pointed to an Instagram post by Scott’s girlfriend Kylie Jenner that promoted the bundles and sort of implied that fans could see their baby Stormi on the tour. She also blamed her label, Republic, for not getting involved, claiming it is concerned about retribution against Ariana Grande’s album, which dropped Friday and will see its chart debuts next week.

Billboard had not commented directly on Minaj’s tweetstorm as of Monday morning. Its chart article says Scott earned 205,000 equivalent album units in the week ending Aug. 16, according to Nielsen Music, of which a little over 78,000 were from traditional album sales, while Minaj racked up 185,000 equivalent album units earned, of which 78,000 were in traditional album sales. The publication notes: “’Queen,’ like ‘Astroworld,’ saw its sales bolstered by an array of merchandise/album bundles sold via Minaj’s official website. ‘Queen’ also benefits from sales generated by a concert ticket/album sale redemption offer with her upcoming co-headlining tour with Future.” #SayNaija #Queen #NickiMinaj

I designed a logo by hand today for the non-profit organization I'm starting right now, Tech Support Music. Here's our mission statement:

Our goal as an organization is to be a conduit for which the dance community can give to charitable causes and groups. We seek to host and collaborate in dance events where the patrons have this opportunity to make a difference while still being out to have a good time, hear outstanding music, see friends, and dance! In this way, we hope to enrich the experience with a deeper meaning, thus the slogan “Partying With Purpose.” We have a beautiful dance community; let’s see what we can do together to help people out in the world and send the love beyond that night, that place and time, those people who came together to have fun. Let’s make a difference too! – Tech Support Music

Will start an IG for it soon!!! :) #logo #design #pen #drawing #nonprofit #organization #charity #startup #dance #house #techno #music #community #love

Sorry if I've tagged anybody who has already done this.
1. Do you have a certain place at home to read? - I usually like to read in my bed, sometimes the garden if the weather's nice which is pretty rare!

2. A bookmark or a random piece of paper? - I have bookmarks but they're rarely around when I need them. Sometimes I use random objects, whatevers nearby.

3. Can you stop after a certain amount of pages or after a chapter? - usually a chapter, although if it's ended on a particular scene mid-chapter I might be able to stop.

4. Do you eat and drink while reading? - yes. I drink tea like it's going out of fashion and I'm pretty much always snacking on something!

5. Multi-tasking: music or TV while reading. - I typically read on silence, but sometimes I'll read between adverts if I'm watching TV.

6. One book at a time or several at once? - one at a time for sure, my memory is bad enough as it is!

7. Reading at home or everywhere? - everywhere. Usually at home, on the bus and on my work breaks.

8. Reading out loud or silently in my head? - Silently

9. Do you read ahead or even skip pages? - I might check ahead of I feel like something bad is going to happen just so I can tear of the plaster, I guess? I might also be guilty of skipping paragraphs sometimes if they're too heavily descriptive 🙈

10. Breaking the spine or keeping it new? - most of my books are pre-used so the spines are broken anyway which is fine with me because then I feel more comfortable getting stuck in!

11. Do you write on books? - not since college.

12. Who do you tag? - I've tagged people on the photo! 😊

Song: Drawing the Line
"You're the taste of wine
you're a summer night
Make me feel alright
Then again you're
like a million thorns
along my side
You are the shiver
down my spine oh
We get close we fall apart
Red roses broken hearts
And we don't know
which way to go
We're in love we're insane
What's the sun
without the rain
I guess we'll
find out as we go
You keep on drawing the line
Just a little bigger every time

And I must be losing my mind
Cuz i know I want you in my life
You're the sweetest dream
cool as autumn breeze
Everything I need
But that's just half the day
next minute you're such a pain
But that's the price I pay oh
We get close we fall apart
Red roses broken hearts
And we don't know
which way to go
We're in love we're insane
What's the sun
without the rain
I guess we'll find out as we go
You keep on drawing the line
Just a little bigger every time"

First I released a song called My Cloud, then @shaq called me on the phone to tell me he was coming to the music video shoot. Other than no one watching that video, it was pretty cool. Then I went on my first bus tour across North America in a yellow coat and got to play live for 36 cities and make a lot of dope new friends. Thank you @starsetonline . I played my instrumentals on turntables and sang my songs, just like I’ve always wanted to. Some people were like hey this is weird but I kept doing it every night because I don’t give a fuck. Then the legends @pendulum asked me to be a part of their new album, in which I remade one of their flagship songs “Propane Nightmares”, and it appeared on the album right beside one of my biggest inspirations, @skrillex That was sweet. Then I recorded a @postmalone cover that I think people liked, which led to Posty following me, which is also sweet. During all of this I was stock piling songs on songs on albums on albums with no sonic boundaries, which led me to closing on my first record deal in the fall with @ultramusicofficial . 2 weeks ago we closed out the year with a new song called Information Overload with @piercefulton . No one knows how to market my shit yet because I’m all over the place but that’s ok because I do this for the art, not the business. Love you all and thank you for doing it w me. Did I miss anything?

As I see people starting to reflect on 2018, and begin talks of 2019, I found it an opportune time to check in with all of you and let you in to a few new developments in my life.
Let me start by saying that 2018 has easily been the biggest and best year for me as a professional artist, and as a piece in the puzzle of the music industry. I played a few festivals, performed in almost a dozen new states, went on my first “tour”, grew Dubday NYC to even new heights, released some of my best music (and released through labels for the first time), collaborated with some of my favorite artists and amazing friends, opened for some legends I’ve always looked up to, and on and on. It’s been an inspiring, tiring, overwhelming, whirlwind experience to say the least, and I’m super proud of what I’ve been able to accomplish this year.
That being said, things aren’t entirely “well” in Wade’s World. It would seem that I’ve lost my way - fallen out of touch and out of focus - and subsequently, haven’t entirely felt like “me” for some time now. I’ve been stuck in a rut, and those of you who have been near to me these past few months have seen that, felt that, and may have even been affected by that - and for that I am sorry. I bit off a little more than I could chew this year, and it’s affected my health more than anything.
If you know me, you know I love to party, and that I can keep up with the champs week after week (after week). But, it’s time that I start to enjoy the way I celebrate life a little more mindfully and carefully. I think it’s important to let my friends, and even the void of the internet, know my intentions as a means of solidifying my delivery on my new changes. Moving in to 2019, I’m going to begin a journey of sobriety. Among other things, this will also include quitting drinking alcohol until at least the summertime, at which time I’ll begin to ween back special occasion drinks here and there as I see fit (but I will not ever be resorting back to “drinks after work” or “drinks before bed” types of habits - those are getting kicked for good). You may still see me indulging in THC (when and where it’s legal, of COURSE) on my own accord, and that’s ok.

No. 5: “Wanderer” by Cat Power
#12daysofmusicillustrated .
.
There is nothing like a Cat Power record. Her minimalist approach to instrumentation, sometimes the repetition of a few piano keys or slightest pluck of an acoustic guitar, combined with her voice - That voice!- creates this pocket universe you crawl inside of. You get lost in there. It can be melancholy at times, but it’s incredibly beautiful and achingly human. That place has just become more lovely with age, and it was so nice to return to it in 2018, when it was most needed.
.
It’s been six years since we last had a record from Chan Marshall’s Cat Power. That’s a long time. Personally, I reconnected to the world of Cat Power through this very platform a few years back. Following her on Instagram gave me even more appreciation for her music, because she often uses her posts to call out injustice, to point out social wrongs and to urge us speak up, get involved. To see the lengths to which she goes to raise awareness, it makes songs like “ Woman” & “Robbin Hood” all the more powerful.
.
Wanderer is so good, it almost feels like I’m listening to a greatest hits collection. What I mean by that is she has cherry picked different reference points from her whole discography, but then used them to greater effect here. You can hear how certain tracks built of the lessons of “Sun” or “The Greatest” but then took them to a totally different place. This is an album made by an artist confident in her skin. It’s assured and comforting. It’s a place of warmth in a very chilly year. So welcome back, Chan, you continue to make us better.

Favorite Track: Every visit with this album finds a new moment to love. But currently, “Horizon” is it. It leaves me breathless.

I just uploaded the last episode with long time contributor Bell Towers. While @noiseinmyheadfm has now run its course as a regular radio show, there’s still 9 years of archived content to appreciate (I’ll still continue DJing as NIMH with extra attention devoted to EFFICIENT SPACE). Huge thanks to you for listening, to all of the guest mix DJs, to everyone who ever shared their musical knowledge + to my respective families at Triple R - @3rrrfm 102.7FM + @nts_radio . This show has always felt like a family affair - none of it was ever done alone + I’m grateful to have made so many connections across the journey >”
.
Michael Kucyk.
.
“I first came across @rbt69 through his mixes for NIMH around 6 years ago when he was still a Melbourne native. His party BAMBOO MUSIK struck a chord with me as it was in a similar vain to what I was doing musically with @reviveherrecords . I then checked out his EP on Hole In The Sky which was raw early sounding house music with a twist. Not long after this, he moved to London with @tief_music and REVIVEHER co-hosting him at @the yard theatre . @sophie_msmsmsm turned up and we had an interesting afters at her studio. I’ve had Rohan on twice since including with his label heads @public_possession and have continued to follow his music.
.
If you’ve never heard of NOISE IN MY HEAD, thank me later. Head over now to enjoy a huge archive of mixes. I was shocked to learn he’d been doing this for 13 years (The last 5 via NTS Radio) since the archive mixes online only start from 2009. An old head on young shoulders. .
Thanks for the music Michael and I hope to have you play for us next year or in the near future.”

Stop scrolling for one second. No, don't scroll until you have read this. It'll change someone's life down the line.
Many of you won't know what I'm doing these days. As someone who has been in the music industry for two decades now I've turned all my expertise, professional and personal; towards 2 key areas moving forward.

For the past few years I've been writing a documentary script which I've now decided to turn into a book with working title @urbandesidocumentary which is essentially becoming the encyclopedia of Urban Desi culture stemming back almost half a decade.

The book is also to become a documentary series which will take form in a new blockchain environment. Exciting times. ∆
To contribute to history, I'm combining my other passion and new professional interest of cognitive science and music to, again, shape a new tech platform to heal mental health issues with science-backed music theories. Innovative ways to help people in mind, body and soul. @nadabrahma3

Would you fill this survey out for my new book and documentary #UrbanDesiDoc. The research is in collaboration with Roehampton University and focuses on the psychological, emotional and sociological impact of Urban Desi culture on humans. Link in bio (Instagram) also here > http://bit.ly/2LMMU5a

I'd appreciate it if you shared it with your followers too as it affects us all, artists, industry folks, fans, consumers, cultural leaders, arts and media, great thinkers and curators alike. ∆
Thank you, Terry Mardi =|;}) If we don't write our own history, "they" will write it for us and omit our truths.

Day 6 - We awoke in the showground and headed to Hobart CBD to have an explore. We visited a music store quickly followed by a record store which I ran to.

We found a tucked away vegan cafe where we had lunch...well more brunch but it was 1 o'clock by this time, explored more and decided against going to MONA today.

We chilled on Parliament lawn drinking the local brew and doughnuts we had purchased earlier. I found an exhibition called death mask which was at a historic house...we went in and were greeted with a room full of creepy dolls... We quickly left.

Ventured over to Dark Park for one exhibit which was extremely moving/heavy which told the story of Kevin Carter the photographer behind the vulture and girl photograph.

We got some much needed bevvys and watched a local band perform, very Beatlesesque.
Losing track of time we rushed over to the Odeon theatre to watch the Norwegian Wolves, Ulver play, their set was mostly their newest album, with some older tracks thrown in. The light show behind was comprised of only lasers, the whole thing was purely captivating and amazing and before I knew it, it was over to the biggest cheer for an encore I have ever encountered... There wasn't an encore.

We were craving pizza from a shop that we observed the previous day, they had stopped serving food... We dashed to the winter feast as it was closing in 50 minutes, greeted with an amazing hall of illuminated red crosses live music and countless stalls serving all the finest foods.
I smuggled beer out of the feast and we headed home to the van. #darkmofo #food #tassie #trip #music #campervan #ulver #art

@Miguel is back with his third studio album titled Wildheart. After his second album #Kaleidoscopedream shot up the charts and had great commercial reception, this album had high expectations and he met all expectations. #randb #summer2015

Miguel is the perfect mixture of #rnb and #rocknroll. With his unique style, creativity, and smooth voice, @Miguelfanhq has clear reminence of past great artists like #prince #JamesBrown and #SmokyRobinson. Many fans argue that he is the best R&B artist out now and it's hard to argue against their assessment. 🔹🔹🔹🔹🔹🔹🔹🔹🔹🔹🔹🔹🔹
Production and Content
Producers #BennyBlonco #cashmerecat #RaphaelSaadiq Miguel and more.
The production and mixdown on this album make it one of the years most creative albums. Each song has multiple levels which add to the listeners experience each time they revisit their favorite songs. There are classic elements of R&B music in each song however many songs utilize rock 'n' roll elements to highlight and underscore the emotion behind the music. Songs like waves, Hollywood dream and, FLESH are great examples of this. The album includes heavy sexual content but he focuses on the passion and love underlining the simple pleasures of sex. There are a few non-sexual songs however 90% of the album is about sex. In his own unique way he finds clever ways to get his message across while keeping his audience intrigued. #ssa

Wale consistently improves with every album. #Jayz was correct when he said Wale will be around for a long time. It’s evident in each album. He is one of the most inspiring rappers out today. He touches a generation and a city with his words. He's got the DC swag which nobody can touch in the game right now.
The idea for the album came from his mixetapes and he does a perfect job of incorporating Seinfeld episodes and real life quotes from Jerry Seinfeld. #themixtapeaboutnothing. Jerry’s analogies are amazing. This album is going to bring together people who normally wouldn't listen to Wale's music and people who haven't seen Seinfeld episodes before. Wale is hosting Seinfeld reruns on TBS...so that's happening 😳. #hiphopiseverywhere 🔹🔹🔹🔹🔹🔹🔹🔹🔹🔹🔹🔹🔹
Production and Content
Producers include #Sonnydigital #DJKhalil Soundz #djdahi and more. The album has a classic Wale feel to it setting you up for great punchlines over soulful beats. A combination of Chuck Brown, DC fly, and classic hip-hop. The producers use popular samples from artists like #musiq, #NewEdition and #JanetJackson.
The content is spiritual, intellectual, smooth, conscious, and real. Wale has a knack for being informative without being preachy. Talking about real things that people within the industry and outside of the industry can relate to. His punchlines have grown and his music has grown as well.

Behold is a collaborative album by avant-garde musicians Oren Ambarchi and Jim O'Rourke. First, it seems important to say that the sounds on this album are beautiful. The beating drums in the background of the first song build up over a period of 18 minutes, first quiet in the back, and then being fully apparent. The increase is so slow you don't even notice that it's building up, which is really an amazing work of production if you think about it, to have that steady of a crescendo. However, it's the long drawn out periods of this album that kind of get to me. The same loop drones on for about 12 minutes in the albums opener before a really great bass comes in, and the drums are apparent, but in that 12 minutes before, very little happened, and that is very drawn out, even in drone music. Drone music takes its time, but this album takes its time a bit too much. Despite its truly incredible sound, this album just isn't for me. 5/10. - Ethan

Yesterday I filmed a powerful music video with a deep message that has @taaaylorquinn as the lead role. A huge shout out to @ilianagravina (Taylor's friend) for being willing and able to spontaneously act in a major scene in the music video (which was originally going to be done on a different day with different ppl). The moment I met her I asked her if she would be willing to film within 20 minutes. It was a spur of the moment thing and she did such a great job. The scene came out great and I was so hyped to knock it out yesterday. I can't wait to share this "Casualties of the Media" music video with you all.

I'm not usually an advocate for posting personal shit or problems on social media, but i'm on a long ass coach back home and leaving Southampton so read on for cringe.. After a fairly shit month as a whole, which has consisted of; A suicide attempt, leaving my job, finding out horrible news from the past, my dog/best buddy passing away after 14 years, falling out with someone I cared about a lot, a shit job interview and financial butt-fuckery, I want to say thank you to these people for helping me out this month. They've let me live with them for a month rent free, helped me perk up from the miserable fuck I was, got me black out drunk and provided me with some of the best memories over the last 3/2 years.

To anyone suffering with; anxiety, bi-polar or depression, it's hard to speak out about these issues, primarily due to the modern romanticism that it's somehow an 'attractive' trait to have. With instagram littered with hashtags and pages dedicated to people self harming, the idea of depression and suicide is romanticised and therefore people are believing their lives are worth nothing more than appraisal from people online calling them 'brave' and 'beautiful' and a few likes from an angsty teenager from Turkmenistan with the comment 'Sik cutz bro, #L4L ?'. I personally hate telling people the problems I have because of this, I struggle to talk to people about depression as people only believe it to be scars on the body and depressing social media input. Most people sit in silence thinking their problem is nothing, and some take things into their own hands with devastating affect.
To anyone suffering with anything similar i'll say this:
• Talk to someone genuine regardless of how heartbreaking/cheesy/embarrassing/weak it sounds • Whip out a cold bag o' cans with the boiz and get really fucking drunk with really fucking good people
• Call a friend and chat utter shit for 68 minutes
• Don't depend on anti-depressants for happiness
• Create your own happiness, be as impulsive and as fucking reckless as possible
• Find good music

Ha! I wrote this whilst having a shit on a National Express coach, wot u sayin?

I got to reminisce on Tuesday night with a few of the bands I listened to in high school (and even today). Silverstein has grown over the years in the best way possible. I think I can speak for many fans when I say that it feels like the music and us grew up together.
Yunno, people always gave me shit for being “emo” in a small town (negative connotation included). Of course I stood out like a sore thumb. But, I was exposed to a plethora of music that had depth, which influenced my knack for writing and analyzing literature. My music taste helped form my identity and better understand myself. Yeah, I went through phases in high school and beyond... but I learned a lot of amazing things, met incredible people, and created surreal memories. Isn’t that what “growing up” entails?
If I could go back in time, I’d tell my teenage self to embrace it all (the teasing, the heartbreak, deaths, and yes, emotions) and remain true to what you love.
Because in the end, music saved me. Still does. 🖤

Music: breathing of statues. Perhaps:
silence of paintings. You language where all language
ends. You time
standing vertically on the motion of mortal hearts.
Feelings for whom? O you the transformation
of feelings into what?--: into audible landscape.
You stranger: music. You heart-space
grown out of us. The deepest space in us,
which, rising above us, forces its way out,-- holy departure:
when the innermost point in us stands
outside, as the most practiced distance, as the other
side of the air:
pure,
boundless,
no longer habitable. -Rainer Maria Rilke

This morning we had the honor of shaking hands with a true legend of American music. Byron Berline has dedicated his life to the craft, playing and recording with icons such as Bill Monroe, The Flying Burrito Brothers, Emmylou Harris and The Rolling Stones. He was acquainted with my Dad, Robbie, Richard, Rick and Garth - eventually playing fiddle on the studio recording of “Acadian Driftwood”. Mr. Berline shared a story with me of how he met my father, and the rest of The Band (then, “The Hawks”) at the Canadian Club in nearby Norman, OK. He and a friend were playing fiddle tunes in the parking lot of the club, trying to impress a couple of girls. A small crowd gathered and when he looked up, noticed it was my father and the other guys in the band. My Dad said “Come play with us.” to which Byron replied “I can’t play your kind of music.” Byron’s favorite part of this story was my Dad’s answer, which he recounted with a bright grin - “We can play yours.”. He wound up sitting in with them on numerous occasions at the Canadian; just one chapter of his storied career. All musicians and music lovers, do yourself a favor. Stop off in Guthrie, Oklahoma - meet Byron, hear his incredible stories, check out his shop, and if you’re lucky - catch him with his band at the music hall upstairs. 🎻 :: @robbierobertsonofficial @dstopfshop

Playing in NYC’s Union Square as an official MakeMusicDay ambassador on this day a few years ago inspired the #PlanetaryCoalition project: an acoustic album with over two dozen musicians from 5 continents (which I hope to follow up at some point) and pointing out music’s power to triumph over politics and unite people from different cultures (which seems ever more necessary these days). Sample video on FB www.facebook.com/PlanetaryCoalition/videos/1715731271814844/ and info at PlanetaryCoalition.com Pics are from our second NYC performance, 2014. Again, try to catch some outdoor music and whatever you do today enjoy the #summersolstice!

Sometimes products land on my desk and I put them on straight away, wear them every day for a week and wonder what I used before I owned them. This is one of those times. These three babies from the @armanibeauty Neo Nude Collection (blush, contour and highlight) are everything I want in cheek products. I’m mad for liquid consistencies because I feel like liquid and creams melt into the skin that smidge better than powders, the colours are SO flattering (they have what appears to a warm and cool tone available in each product) and they just blend out like a dream. They blend out so easily, in fact, that you barely have to do any work at all which means you have more time for things like sleeping or driving. I feel like I’ve glossed over how good the colours are? Perfect contour shade (contour colours aren’t meant to be too warm as that’s what your bronzer is for but I often find contours to be TOO ashy- this is the perfect half way), the blush (mine is shade 50) is one of those colours that instantly makes you look fresher and healthier and the highlight has that real DEW finish to it as opposed to intense shimmer- the kind that just makes you look like you have naturally beautiful skin because it caches the light so people say “your skin looks amazing” and you’re like “it’s actually not but okay cheers.” THESE THREE BABIES ARE THE GOODS. Also they’re permanent collection not limited edition which is music to my ears.

We've been a little MIA this year because I sometimes feel guilty posting pictures of the boys in fear of upsetting any of you out there that are still waiting for your BFP and partially due to me being super busy with these two. The older they get, the more hectic life has become... I know new twin moms out there don't want to hear that, but it's true! Here's a few new updates: We're gearing up for a couple family vacations in the next couple months (Mexico and Hawaii) and I still have yet to put the boys in a pool EVER, so that should be interesting 😂. They love bath time, so I'm just hoping I can convince them the pool is a big community bath🤞🏼. We've been dealing with a nasty case of Hand Foot Mouth for over two weeks and some days I want to cry over it, but I know there could be a million worst things, so I just take a deep breath, wash my hand for the 500th time and sanitize another toy- good times. I saw my infertility doctor at the beginning of the month to chat about baby number three, and I'm both excited and scared. The good thing is he feels like we would have great success with just putting in one embryo which was music to my ears! Don't get me wrong, I love twins, but I think one set is enough for me! Lastly, the boys are doing amazing! They're at this great age where they are either cracking me up, fighting over a toy or trying to master a new "skill", and by skill I mean climbing shelves, opening doors, throwing apple sauce in the dryer, or running away. Nonetheless, they're still the best little things that have ever happened to me. Oh and despite all my best efforts still refuse to both smile for a picture at the same time 😜. Hope everyone else is well! XX #ourivfjourney #twinboys #ivftwins

Looks like the month of August has been entirely about stretching my limits, both physically, creatively and emotionally. It feels a bit like going 200mph on the freeway while the ground beneath you is moving ... literally. I’ve never had to plan and execute so many projects at once on my life as I have in the past two weeks and three that are coming. I am beyond thrilled to see new horizons open up in front of me while I spend every day focusing on doing what I love which is music and art.
Meanwhile we have had three major earthquakes on the island in the past week and a half. The first took the lives of 19 people, the second nearly 100 ... It’s hard to concentrate when just 50 miles away lives have been taken by natural disaster, when you understand that it’s just a game of Russian Roulette in Bali at the moment and anyone could have been a casualty and could still very well be. I try to spend my evenings working out of restaurants so I don’t have to be in my villa, which is suspended off a side of a cliff. Running up 5 flights of moving stairs in the dark when the 7.0 hit was the most terrifying experience of my life. Every morning for the past three days I have woken up with a rapid heartbeat being grateful that I survived the night in my place. I’ve never had to live in such uncertainty while so much responsibility hangs on my shoulders in other areas of my life.
My family and friends have been trying to make me leave the island on which I’ve consciously chosen to stay because I have worked too hard this past year to compromise the plans I’ve made over the next month. As my mother put it “what good are your plans if you’re not there to enjoy them” ... and I agree. Yet I have this stubborn retaliation against fear built into my system. I’ve always been the person who in times of turmoil stands my ground and protects my territory. Meanwhile my deepest prayers are with the people of this island who have sustained so much loss. The courage in their hearts are something we can all only aspire to. •

Last night we heard the sad news that our good friend Steve Soto passed away in his sleep. He was such a sweet, talented and genuine person. The Adolescents show at the Baces hall “riot” when they opened for Black Flag in 1980 was a seminal moment in the L.A./O.C. punk rock explosion and the Adolescents have been a unique, trailblazing, inspiring and influential band. Steve was the rock of the Adolescents as well as numerous other bands including Manic Hispanic and Punk Rock Karaoke who have all been mainstays of Punk Rock Bowling. The world will never be the same without him. - Shawn Stern

I'm 8500 miles away from home and just heard the devastating news of my longtime friend Steve Soto's passing.
I'm at a loss for words, only having hung out with him last month, shooting the shit at Punk Rock Bowling.
Remembering his one of a kind smile, while he told his many stories. He was always working, always writing and creating
and always on the road.
I remember having a conversation with him 15 years ago when he was contemplating getting a "real"
job and I told him his talent was too big, he was too smart, and that he should take action, focus on all his various projects,
schedule them each throughout the year and that would enable him to make a living doing the thing he loved most, which was music.
That's what we all wanted to do, find a way to keep living out our youth, creating, traveling,
meeting people and leaving our mark.
Well, Steve did what we all strived for. He wasn't a platinum selling artist making millions
of dollars, but his music was some of the most important of our generation and helped shape
the way bands write today. He lived his life each day to the fullest, taking on every hurdle that was thrown his way and persevering til
his very last day. He touched so many people throughout his years, you couldn't help but like him. He was a true gentleman
with a huge heart of gold, and he always said it like it was, no bullshit!
His music will live with us forever, and so will that one of a kind smile!!
Rest in Peace my friend and say hi to Gabby! -Mark Stern

If you’ve grown up as a kid listening to radio as an only source of new music before the days of internet then you can relate to this film on a more personal level. I grew up in Toronto as a kid and my whole world of music was this station called CFNY 102.1 FM. At the time this was the only station that played non 40 hits and the only source of new music coming in from England. Along with NME magazine and CFNY “The Spirit of Radio” at the time was where I got first introduced to bands like Depeche Mode and The Smiths. I’m not sure if CFNY still operates in Toronto or if it does it’s still the same alternative radio of the generation, but at that time it was a big influence in my music listening. Used to tape Chris Sheppard’s show ‘Club 102’ and listened to it for the whole week picking out music I would buy or order from the local record store where they would order it to UK. This film tells the story of a similar radio station in Long Island NY called WLIR 92.7 which introduced alternative music to America and made a wave of successes for those artists in the States. Great story and a goose bump trip down the memory lane of personal experiences in those days. If you have Showtime definitely go and see it!! #newmusic #daretobedifferent #wlir #cfny #cfny102 #spiritofradio #newwave #radio #fm #alternativeradio

We’ve put a lot into this band over the last few years…
Quitting jobs and missing uni for tours, spending a load of money, and putting our personal lives aside and the band before everything.
Now we feel we want a little change in direction and the opportunity to start something new… *** Lew has been accepted to study a masters in Game Art, Design & Development the art school in Copenhagen and will be moving out there in August. Wish him good luck and keep up with his artwork here @lewcurrie *** Ben has started a new music & art project in Manchester called Luxury Death, which will be releasing their first few singles & zines very soon. Keep up to date here @luxury.death
We like to thank Topshelf Records & Dog Knights Productions for working with us to put out music that we’re really proud of, The Agency Group and X-Ray Touring for booking our shows and tours, Prescription PR and Riot Act Media for helping our music reach as many people as possible.

We’d also like to thank everyone who’s ever checked out us, bought a record, partied with us, let us crash on their floors, wrote about us, took photos of us, played a show with us, toured with us, recorded our band, put out one of our records in the early days, and anyone who has ever showed us support.
We’ve met some of the best people all over the world all thanks to this band and the DIY / punk scene.

The game is pretty forgettable but the track on the soundtrack called #L, which is a magical song, based around a constant progression of layered and evolving melodies, made me delve into their music further, and was a good reminder to not judge bands by the company they are surrounded by (IE always playing shows with a myriad of horrible electronic groups). A lot of people describe their music as relaxing chill out music, which isnt exactly wrong, but is sort of a disservice because many of their songs are actually pretty complex structurally and melodically, which isnt something most "chill" electronic bands can say. They also record everything live, with actual instruments, and while their live shows arent exactly intense, it is impressive just how tight and in tune with each other the actual band is when playing. If youve never listened to them before Id recommend the album #awake as the starting point as it is the most accessible and the one I come back to pretty often when I need something calming to ease an angry mood.

Music fans, fellow musicians... the artists & songwriters that you know and love REALLY need you. We’re quite literally “in our darkest hour” here (yeah, i said it). But, I believe that if enough of us share our voice, big corporations (@blackstone @sesac) will be forced to hear our cry and withdraw their proposal to theoretically defeat the life and prosperity the #MusicModernizationAct will bring back to music and the humans behind it. If you weren’t aware, since streaming took over and record sales plummeted, musicians can’t make money off music like we used to... to the point where thousands of them, put the pencils, guitars, & mics down because they simply can’t earn enough to fulfill their dreams AND put food on the table. We’ve all struggled to live off the little piece of our pie that we actually get to take home at the end of the day...up until now!!! Now, we finally found a solution to solve that issue, it’s called the #MusicModernizationAct. And guess what, an unanimous vote 415-0 to bring OUR HARD EARNED money back into our pockets, FOR THE SONGWRITERS AND ARTISTS, has been made! BUT... in the 11th hour, a very large private equity, @blackstone decided to throw a wrench in things. Which would tack on another 16% taken from our royalties that the DSP’s already agreed to absorb!!!... From a business perspective, I get it... Blackstone wants their piece, but the point is, EVERYONE ELSE in the industry is willing making this one sacrifice for the greater good of our creatives which will change history... can’t they do the same? The #MMA would put power back into the hands of the creatives. This is give and take here... compromise. Please hear our voice and give up, what may mean little to you, that means a whole life of dedication to us.
Could you imagine a world with out music? I don’t want to.
If you care to help, please join us & share your voice by tweeting, tagging, or emailing @blackstone & @sesac.
We need all we can get!❤️ AND

Olivia Records quickly skyrocketed as one of the industry’s leading independent labels during the 1970s, releasing and distributing 40-plus albums and selling around one million records from pioneering artists including Williamson, Meg Christian, and June Millington. From sourcing independent distributors at live shows, to hiring female session players, to actively teaching women the trade of audio production, Judy and Cris proudly served at the forefront of the women’s music movement with Olivia Records. This revolutionary movement, which involved music created, performed and marketed specifically to women, laid out an unprecedented foundation, setting the stage for artists who followed like Melissa Etheridge, the Indigo Girls and Mary Gauthier to share their truth in song.
They will be honored at the Americana Honors & Awards on September 12 at The Ryman Auditorium.

Early 2016 when Freddy Crabs put us onto a handsome, talented young keys player & singer from the I Dub. We clicked instantly, and it ended up being one of the best things that’s ever happened to Spit Syndicate.
Vinny plays keys in our live band, and he also helped produce the bulk of ORBIT. When we went down the coast to a friend’s holiday house to write what would become our next album, Vinny, Adit and Jono got in a fkn zone, bouncing off each other and churning out music at an incredible rate.
On the road, Vinny is always smiling, rarely sleeping, mostly watching the NBA on his phone. He’s got a solo project on the way which is going to blow people away.

It was to be the night I finally meet one of my greatest musical influences and my idol, @macmiller .

It broke my heart to a million pieces when I heard of your passing. Knowing I could never meet you in person and you no longer can gift the world any new, beautiful music, I broke down.
I grew up with your music at the coming-of-age chapter of my life; I imitated your fashion style of snapbacks and skate shoes; I vibed all the way out to your songs.
At age 14, I wanted to be Mac Miller.
It wasn’t until the time of the ‘Macadelic’ and ‘Faces’ mixtapes and ‘Watching Movies with the Sound Off’ album that I realized you’re not just a rapper; you’re a true artist.
Since then you developed a drug habit—one which ultimately led to your demise—but I don’t think of that when somebody mentions “Mac Miller”.
I think of “EZ Mac with the cheesy raps” who developed into a creative genius. The artist who gave us beautiful works of art like ‘The Divine Feminine’ and ‘Swimming’; that’s who I think of when I hear or see your name.
But before releasing ‘Swimming’, you released a a 3-pack of singles, which I listened to immediately.
The one track that stood out to me was “Small Worlds”, initially because it sounded like something you and @bambambaklava would collab on. But it was more than the sound; the words within the track are what really speak volumes. And that’s why it has become my favorite song.

Thank you, Malcolm, for being that creative, ecstatic role model I’ve needed, especially during the darkest times of my life these past few years.
Thank you for a piece of the best advice I’ve ever received:
to “...Keep your eyes to the sky, never glued to your shoes.”

#Youngrichnation is the highly anticipated debut album from hip-hop's most popular rap group, Migos. The group features a trio of young artists out of Atlanta individually name Offset @Offsetyrn, Takeoff @yrnTakeoff, and Quavo @Quavohuncho.
The group hit the scene hard in 2012 and 2013 with major hits like #Versace featuring #drake, #HannahMontana, and #trapouttheBando. Their momentum shot them to the top of the charts and ever since then they've been making hit after hit after hit.

The album is a great start. The albums contains only 15 songs making it a perfect length for a debut album. Also this album appeals to a diverse audience with songs like just For Tonight, Dap Daddy, Pipe It Up, and Playa Playa. This album is bound to have great success. It has incredible reception and excellent sales thus far. 🔹🔹🔹🔹🔹🔹🔹🔹🔹🔹🔹🔹🔹 Production and Content
Producers include @zaytoven Deko at an honorable see email DJ Durel @murdabeatz_ and more. The production stays true to the Migos sound. #trapmuic. They do a good job of lightning up some of their harder sounds from the mixtape which allows this album to crossover better. There are two songs with a West Coast feel (gangsta rap and Highway 85) which show their diversity.
Content
Content is Party music, party anthem, club music, trap music, being successful, their journey to success, and new slang. Not complicated or in-depth music.

As most of you know, Beachbody® LIVE offers a group fitness class called Country Heat®—a simple dance-style workout that gets people moving and, as the name implies, is set to today’s country music. This past month I had the opportunity to visit Nashville on a family girls’ trip. I was struck by the broad appeal and popularity of a city known primarily for country music! As we walked down Broadway and the nearby streets, live music flowed out of the open windows—and all of it was slightly different. Which left me wondering, how do you define “country music”?
.
.
.
Turns out, defining country music is a tough thing to do. Historically, it was associated with cowboys and southern twang (think Randy Travis and Willie Nelson). It evolved in the ’90s into a more mainstream sound, which included stars like Garth Brooks and Faith Hill. But over the past decade, country music has evolved into something special. It no longer sits in its own genre. There are country crossovers with hip-hop (who doesn’t love when Florida Georgia Line and Nelly can be found on the same track?), pop (Bebe Rexha just dropped a hot country-inspired track), and even R&B (Sam Hunt, anyone?).
.
.
.
It seems that when a song is deemed “country” people automatically make up their minds to dislike it. But if you take that label away, you have one of the largest and most diverse group of songs, artists, and fans. Country music is a versatile, evolving genre that is no longer restricted to cowboys and the old west. And similarly, that is what we love about Country Heat.
.
.
Country Heat isn’t just about line dancing to bluegrass or learning the grapevine for your cousin’s wedding. It’s an entertaining cardio workout where you’ll actually work up a sweat by moving to the beat of the music. We even slip in bodyweight moves like squats, lunges, and standing crunches—so you truly get a total-body workout. And later this month, we’ll be giving you even more reason to try it out (wink, wink)!
.
.
.
In the meantime, we encourage you to experience a Country Heat LIVE class with an open mind. We promise it’s worth it.
.
.
Best,
Amy Bridgeo

I've been on this album since its release in 2014 but and #Tove is the truth. The Swedish singer came on the scene tough with her smash pop hit Habits (Stay High) which peaked at number 3 on #billboardtop100 and number 1 in the Top 40 charts. Months later she came back with another hit titled Talking Body which has reach number 12 on the Top 100 charts and has gone has high as number 1 on associated charts. This album has a well thought out frame work and takes you on an emotional roller coaster. Her album is split into 3 sections: The Sex, The Love, and The Pain. She give u party but she also give your intense #emo. 🔹🔹🔹🔹🔹🔹🔹🔹🔹🔹🔹🔹🔹
Production and Content
Producers include #shellback #thestruts #captaincuts and more. The productions is encapsulating. Whether you like house, pop, #rnb, or whatever, you can respect her music. Her pop songs are similar to what's on the radio but her album is diverse and her content hits you deep. The various producers use on synthesizers, drums, keys, and other traditional and non traditional pop instruments and techniques create a mix of emotional effects.
I love that she doesn't have any features. It shows her ability to carry a album on her own. The content is simple...sex, love, and pain. It's classic. The sex portion is the best but the love sections is good as well. Her us of metaphors added with the stellar level of production on this album takes the listener journey that many artists fail to reach.

The most epic & successful band till date in the history of RocknRoll 🎸, "The Beatles". Widely remarked as the most influential & prominent band, with a substantial fan base across the globe. Started off in the late 60's from Liverpool , it gained momentum within the next few following years. Members include{"Base": "Paul McCartney","Lead guitar": "George Harrison", "Drums": "Ringo Starr", "Chords&Vocals: "John Lennon"}. Till day they hold the record for the highest number of records sold crossing a whooping 180 million + figure. The Group had their differences, but sorted them out before they eventually split up in the early 70's, when them started focusing on their individual careers. Lennon was assassinated in 1980, which laid back a 😢 atmosphere across all Beatle fans. Members still alive & performing include paul & ringo. .
.
The "Fab Four", experimented with all genres of music, resembling the attributes they believed most influenced their very own life. Serene & fusion (psychedelia, indian classical, acoustic, pop)music, with soulful lyrics is what made them stand out among there peers. Beatles in the late 60's troubled with there psychoactive way of live travelled all the way to INDIA to find there peace of mind. This was the period when they were linked with Maharishi Mahesh Yogi, who helped the four to settle down and bring about the blissful turn from the tormenting past activities. He introduced The Beatles to Transcendental Meditation which rejuvenated the group with high spirits, soulful mind, and lying in the scenic beauty in Rishikesh gave exactly they were looking for. This was the period when they dropped the White album EP. I myself am a big fan of their music and envision several thoughts, ideas , whose roots could be traced to them. Signing off with a quote "Life Flows On Within You & Without You" encrypted with strong messages to the way if living life.

There was Christmas music blasting from the city down below, and it added some amazing ambiance to the overlook of the bridges. Along the way, we started noticing signs set up along the path. It’s called the memory of nations. The signs, though, they are gut wrenching. I choked backed tears time after time reading about stories from people during the time of communism rule in Czechoslovakia. So much control. So many people executed. And that was just the part about communism. There was another section with signs of stories of Nazi rule in the country. It was sobering reading the signs, while I heard sounds of my children playing in the background. I choked back tears yet again. We left appreciating the scenery, but also a humbling reminder of how horrible humanity can be. Never forget. Never repeat. On Monday we spent our entire morning inside. Truthfully, we had some fun plans, but the behavior of the kids was not suitable for public viewing. Which meant the behavior of the mama was close to not being suitable for public viewing either. Miraculously, we made it out the door. We had tickets to see a chamber music concert of the music of Gershwin and some other musicals. The Spanish Synagogue is quite possibly the most beautiful place we’ve seen so far. So much detail in every wall, every fixture. The music was beautiful. The kids were enamored with the sound and sat perfectly still for almost all of it. Mae tried to emulate the violin players as they moved their string. And Graydon loved watching the movements of the bass player. He was very expressive! The last song was Ol’ man river, which featured the trumpet player that had a striking resemblance of my dad. Which, if you didn’t know him, the song doesn’t mean much. But if you did, you can just hear his boisterous, somewhat off key voice singing that song. This time I couldn’t choke back the tears. They just came and flooded my eyes. Man, what I wouldn’t give to call my dad last night to tell him his song was played by an amazing orchestra in an equally amazing synagogue. It was clearly meaningful!

A parable.” - Nietzche

My love for music has come to a point where I’ve had to decide which way to go.
You see, I’ve spent the last few years traveling the world, performing, partying, making music - friends & haters
But I got lost on its way. I forgot about what matters to me, so.. In deep regret I’m announcing the end of my career as a performing artist.

I fully acknowledge and I am eternally grateful that I was living a „dream life“, supporting myself through music production and performance, DJ’ing has literally shown me the world. However, at the same time - the lifestyle is fraught with mental health pitfalls. Extreme sleep deprivation, difficulty maintaining relationships, increased social media pressures, over-saturation of the market, long periods of isolation, and constant career instability.

I have been blessed with a hard working team at Headliner Entertainment, Wishlist Agency & Dirty Workz - which always looked after me, tried to help me & supported me.
I’d like to thank them for all the work and support over the past years, it has been a wild ride.

And of course a big thanks to YOU - all my fan’s that came out to my performances, whether it was clubs - festivals - events. It didn’t matter what weather or location, you guys kept showing up and I am forever grateful for your support.

However I am not gonna let go of music production, I will continue to produce and release music via dirty workz and I hope you will still find the joy in this, as a rather famous song of mine said „find the joy in music, find the joy in each other“

I’m gonna continue to perform on all agreed shows until December 9th!

Thank you everyone. ❤️

Didn’t think I’d ever do one of these but what can I say? 2018 has been a weird one. I feel like I’ve taken small steps forward, but have also been rocked miles back. This may be the first time I’m actually looking forward to a new year, and a fresh start.

Two weeks ago I spent my birthday gathering boxes and packing up the belongings of the girl I thought I was going to spend the rest of my life with. Although it’s been months since she felt it best that we go our separate ways, poor timing has seen the holiday season filled with mortgage re-applications, legal fees, land title changes....emptiness. If she never ends up reading this, I hope she knows I still love her more than anything in this world, I think about her every day, but most importantly, I sincerely hope that she finds the happiness she has been so desperately searching for.

On a more positive note, my proudest moment was finally being able to find the strength to shed some light on my departure from the band. The amount of positivity and support expressed from all over the world helped grant me some much needed closure. I still have a long way to go, but I’m going to continue working on personal care, and setting aside time for myself in hopes of (potentially) trying to churn out some new music in 2019. I haven’t decided what would be more therapeutic: Sad Boi songs in the style of the latest autotuned SoundCloud rapper, or writing the most brutal/heavy/downtuned/dissonant/pissed/groovy music I’ve ever written. I have a feeling I know which of the two most of you would all prefer. Which ever way it goes, @thejoshuatravis, feel free to lend a hand here.

In summary (of what I am)…..[yeah yeah, bad joke] I have no idea what 2019 has in store for me. As scared as I am, I can’t shake the feeling that there’s something exciting around the corner. To all of you, the friends that have reached out and helped me through these past 12 months, I wish nothing but good luck and fortune. Let us be the ones to fly out the gate and kick 2019 in the fucking chest!

R.I.P. 2018.

I know ive not posted for a while guys and I will rectify that now because I've had so many adventures during my absence that I will fully update you on! Life's taken a delightfully intense turn where I literally feel like I can achieve anything and no challenge is beyond my limits anymore. Here I am with a fellow co worker after trying to get our head around one small tech section during the immense event set up (that has been our main focus this last few days)! As you can see, we wound up just enjoying the moment and today our entire team thoroughly smashed the st!t out of it! I had to push past my comfort zone. I learnt 8 training sessions which included new and taxing information, along with mastering the opening presentation which I had to perform infront of 100s of people on top of figuring out a difficult drive section which should have scared the bajeeeberz out of me. Instead I told myself that I could absolutely do it and i had the mind blowing support of my team who went out of their way to make sure i had the time and energy i needed to get through the rough and confusing times we all shared. In return i was able to provide the support and a listening ear for anyone who needed it and I am so excited to see where my life is heading now. Work hard and support those around you without limits, it truly brings great things to your existance and dont struggle alone because there are people out there who care for you and honestly want to see you succeed. Thank you all for joining me on my crazy journey ♡ my happy tanks are thoroughly bursting 😍

Today was the fourth rest day I got this week, after two days of Thanksgiving holidays on Thursday and Friday and the weekend. I found myself bored out of my wits, ready to jump back at work.

After lunch, I fell asleep on the couch and woke up abruptly from that nap, having dreamed of a place that looks like it came out of The Walking Dead filming set being overrun by the gangs of Southside Serpents and The Ghoulies from Riverdale. That’s what you get from binge watching TV series over the last few days.

I looked out my balcony and saw everything was blanketed in white. Snow had fallen hard while I had my nap and there was already a weather advisory sent out that a snowstorm is heading our way.

Earlier this morning, I discovered two things: 1) my iPad supports Kindle ebooks and 2) the kind of jazz music I love is called “Cool Jazz” which the internet has coined as “Jazz Noir”. These were the kind of music popularized by the likes of Miles Davis and Chet Baker.
As with my obsession of finding music I like, I planted myself on my couch googling and YouTube-ing as many songs of this genre as I can and promptly made an Apple Music playlist for myself. I only wished that I had a great sound system to blast these beautiful music through my apartment.

Lately I have also been feeling like I need to start reading again, ironically because I felt my standard of English has dropped since moving to the US. Browsing through Amazon Prime Reading, I found a couple of books that looked interesting and with a few taps, downloaded them to my iPad.

It’s 4:30 pm now and the sun has already set. The snow fall has taken a short pause and will likely continue into the night. Listening to my playlist and reading my eBook, a sense of calm and peace ripples through my mind.
One more weekend and I will be back in bustling Singapore. Time has been moving so quickly, slipping through my fingers that soon enough, it will be 2019.
Slow down, time. I need more moments like this to remind myself to stop and watch the world go by.

Although I haven’t been talking that much about #Stayinamerica I still stand for you, all of you. We still have to keep fighting for what’s right! Fast forward into the year, I met so many talented and inspiring musicians and people from the music industry. I learned so much in just one year. Then I put out my song Evolution which is so near and dear to my heart. Then again another amazing reaction from you guys. I also put out acoustic versions of me singing on YouTube, and later on dropped Cigarette. I FUCKING GOT SIGNED BY @onerpm WHICH WAS OUT OF THIS WORLD TO ME AND I STILL CAN’T BELIEVE IT! I had so many live performances throughout this year and couldn’t thank more those who attended and went out of their way to watch me do what I love and believe I was born to do! I could sit here all day and tell you all how grateful I am and thankful as well...I feel like crying every time I look back at 17 year old Ashley leaving Brazil all alone with no idea of how her future was going to be or what she was going to do to achieve her goal in becoming a singer. All I can do is thank GOD, thank my family, friends, @monocentricmusic @ue3promotions @marcswersky @briellebrown and everyone else who had any involvement in my life and music ❤️

WHITE LIGHT/WHITE HEAT is the second album by the Velvet Underground. Although this album receives probably the least praise out of the first big four Velvet Underground albums, it is still a classic album that takes the noisy, experimental aspects of their first album, the masterpiece VELVET UNDERGROUND & NICO, and takes builds off of that. This is a very heavy album. The title track, as well as the closing track talk about subjects like heroin (more on that later), which goes along with the weird, kind of messed up and disturbing lyrics of the album, from the darkly comedic "The Gift," as well as the horribly sick "Lady Godiva's Operation." This sounds like a bad thing, but it's pretty damn cool while listening to. The best part about this album is that with each song that is on this album, the band does something new and innovative, all of these things being hugely influential on not only noise and avant garde music, but music as a whole. So this classics week post comes with a track by track review. The first song, which is the albums title-track is a standard rock-and-roll song with some standard blues roots, but on top of that are distorted guitars as well as a piercing organ, which brings a very noisy side to the song, while Lou Reed sings about the glory of drugs, like heroin. This instrumentation though, shows how you can incorporate avant garde elements into standard formats, which was really popularized by Sonic Youth in the 1980s (Thurston Moore being a huge Velvet Underground fan). In "The Gift," never has storytelling been so unique. While hard panned to one side is a messy band jam, while on the other side, John Cale reads a dark comedy about a man who mails himself to his lover, written by Reed in college. This weird panning and storytelling has probably been the least influential out of all other songs, but it's just awesome. In "Lady Godiva's Operation," the melody is sweet and beautiful, but the lyrics are nightmarish, describing a woman... You know what? No spoilers. It's weird though. This inspired bands like Neutral Milk Hotel to write lyrics that are weird and depressing despite a pretty and uplifted melody... [Continued in comments]

The clip is of a group call Gunkhole which was made up of a drummer called Ace and three turntablists who go by the names of Mike Boo, Ricci Rucker and D-Styles. The music that they performed live was all improvised. Their shows had no glitz, no body tricks but instead the focus was the improvisational use of sound to create spontaneous music. At the time that Gunkhole came out it had mixed reactions because each Dj was known for world-class level in scratching but the level of skill for what they're doing is not obvious. Fast intricate scratching, body tricks and juggles are a lot more of an obvious read to an audience then improvising music on the fly. Here is a way to understand it...Imagine if I gave you a stack of records and you had to go through all of the music on each record and find little snippets of sound that could potentially work with the sounds other Djs are going to use. Good so far? So you have your set of sounds and then one Dj will start an idea from their sound palette and you have to listen to see where you can add something to develop the musical journey/story. In short; that shit it ain't easy. If you make music you will really appreciate the level of musicianship that Gunkhole are deploying because the improv format is a potential sonic nightmare waiting to happen. The skill is in each of the musicians ability to listen to each other and show restraint in what they add so their is room to manoeuvre and develop the music. Having restraint in music is half the battle because the music can quite often be “in-between the notes.” When you are making music it's a balance of what you put in as well as what you are leaving out and if you are making music live you have to learn to listen. What Gunkhole performed was very technical but it was displayed through improvising a musical journey and I think a lot of people missed the plot. Each member of Gunkhole is doing their own thing these days but my hope is that they reform for one more showdown with a recorded album. I didn’t think the Skratch Picklz would reform and put music out but they did. I think the world needs just a little more from the Gunkhole collective. 👊🏾😩

Policy is the debut solo album from Will Butler of Arcade Fire, one of the best bands of the past ten years. Butler was also nominated for an Oscar on his work with Spike Jonez, scoring his film HER, which is not only a great soundtrack, but my favorite release in ambient music of all time. This does not sound like the HER soundtrack, and this does not sound like Arcade Fire. Instead, Butler has made something totally new to what we've heard of him and his band so far. Policy was made as a self-proclaimed "American Music" album in the style of the Violent Femmes, Bob Dylan, John Lennon (apparently that counts), and surprisingly Ghostface Killah. This may be news but the album didn't sound like Ghostface Killah at all (In my opinion. This isn't a rap album, it's a straight up indie rock album), but he does pay tribute to many of his proclaimed inspirations, most obviously the Violent Femmes which were and still are a kickass band. The album had a sort of raw, garage sound on a lot of albums, while still sounding like indie pop. Like the Violent Femmes, some songs are serious, and some songs are a bit humorous. A good example is from the song "What I Want," where Butler says "If you come and take my hand, I will buy you a pony. We can cook it, for supper I know this great recipe for pony macaroni." But some of the lyrics are also dark and depressing, which still keeping upbeat melodies and music just like Arcade Fire does. My only problem with this album I think are the semi hit or miss lyrics, but are mostly spot on (a problem I see in Arcade Fire as well). The songs are incredibly catchy though, especially "Son of God" and "Take My Side". I love the energy he brings in songs like "Take My Side" which I did not like at first as the lead single but now I love. The horns that occasionally appear on this album are fantastic, almost all of the instruments being played by Butler. I'm probably running out of room on this review, but I will say Policy is a really great album, and if you are interested in side-project music of Arcade Fire, you should try checking this album out when it's released on March 10th (you can steam it right now on Spottily). 7.5/10. - Ethan

The #music, which grew out of Jamaica in the 1960s thanks to artists like Toots and the Maytals, #PeterTosh and Bob Marley, was added to the collection due to its "intangible #cultural heritage". Reggae is "cerebral, socio-political, sensual and spiritual," said Unesco.
It has "penetrated all corners of the world," added a #Jamaican spokesperson.

Reggae followed on from the ska and rocksteady genres - other early pioneers included #LeeScratchPerry and Prince Buster.

#MillieSmall's 1964 ska cover of My Boy Lollipop also helped introduce reggae's laidback groove to the world.
Reggae became popular in the United States but particularly flourished in the UK, which had become home to many Jamaican immigrants since the end of World War Two.

The British reggae label Trojan, which celebrates its 50th birthday this year, introduced the world to artists like Desmond Dekker, Jimmy Cliff and Bob and Marcia. "I am delighted, it's wonderful news," BBC 1Xtra veteran presenter Dave Rodigan told World Service radio. "I've loved this music since I first heard it as a teenager." Speaking to 5 live he added: "I've always said it speaks out for the underprivileged, it speaks out against social injustice. Reggae music is the original rebels' music immortalised by #BobMarley at the Wailers."

Photo by @rubensalgadoescudero // A performer from the National Beijing Opera poses for a portrait. Peking Opera is a form of Chinese opera which combines music, vocal performance, mime, dance and acrobatics. It arose in the late 18th century and became fully developed and recognized by the mid-19th century. The form was extremely popular in the Qing dynasty court and has come to be regarded as one of the cultural treasures of China. Major performance troupes are based in Beijing and Tianjin in the north and Shanghai in the south. The art form is also preserved in Taiwan, where it is known as Guójù.
If you’ve never heard it before, I recommend checking it out as it has nothing to do with the opera that the west is used to hearing.

So honored to be asked to represent Portland and Oregon for @bulleit Frontier Works Bulleit Bottle Impressions campaign. The assignment was to create a frottage (rubbing) from a bottle of Bulleit Bourbon and use as the basis for a piece of art representing Portland, Oregon, and it’s pioneering spirit. In true Zenvironments fashion, I created a monster scene... I wanted to interpret the Portland frontier as a swirling microcosm of life, from the lizard in the desert to the hiker in the woods to the tumultuous skies of the heavens.. all churning together in one shared space, all connected in one beautiful and chaotic dance which springs from the same point.... The official kickoff to the Bulleit Frontierworks Art Showcase in Portland takes place this upcoming Wednesday, April 18th at the Soul’d Out Music Festival at the Castaway Portland. 1900 NW 18th Ave. I will be there. I hope you will too! Attend, have a bourbon, and create your own frottage bottle art while you are there. More info at https://bulleitfrontierworks.com

I want to thank my friends & family for coming out to see me at Piano Slam 10 in this beautiful concert hall where I played to a packed house alongside two world-class pianists from Italy. The language barrier didn’t stop us from creating a musical mash-up of classical & contemporary which proves music is a universal language. After 20 years of DJing, moments like this make it feel like the very first time. 📸:@grvisuals.photography

Mando is a writer for Carnival Music, whose Music Row office served as our headquarters for a week of photo shoots, interviews, and live in-studio video recordings. We had a hell of a good time, many stories to tell, which I will get to eventually. Upon my return I’ve been editing photos and throwing around album and digital booklet concepts, and since I haven’t posted on Instagram for quite a LONG time, I figured I’d throw a few up. Here’s one from a studio shoot we did, with lyrics to the song “The Leaving Side”. When I was shooting and getting Mando into this strange twisted position I was thinking of some sort of flamenco stance, but upon subsequent viewings I’ve been getting this Fleetwood Mac Rumors vibe from it. Anyway, if I can stick to a schedule I’ll post a new page daily until I run out of song lyrics. Unfortunately you’re going to have to wait until the record comes out to hear the music. Many thanks to John Troup, Sam Grant, Ken Coomer, and Frank Liddell for their help in making it all happen.
