I finished my first half marathon 5 years ago at 2:42. I didn’t really know how to train. So when mile 4 or 5 came up, I started walking. But I finished ! And I remember that feeling of badassery with that medal in my hand. Until someone asked me what my time was. Then laughed and said “OH YOU’RE ... I finished my first half marathon 5 years ago at 2:42.
I didn’t really know how to train.
So when mile 4 or 5 came up, I started walking.
But I finished 🏁!
And I remember that feeling of badassery with that medal in my hand.
Until someone asked me what my time was.
Then laughed and said “OH YOU’RE A WALKER!”
It felt bad, so bad. So bad that I can still feel how those words took away my sense of accomplishment. I wanted to stop running. Maybe... running just wasn’t for me.
So I stopped running. I mean, who wanted to be laughed at after trying your best 🤷🏽‍♀️?
Then one day (almost a full year later) someone asked me to run with a group of people.
Intimidated, but eager to meet new friends, I did.
And it changed my life.
To date, I’ve ran 27 half marathons with times ranging from 1:47 to 2:42.
And at the end of the day, it wasn’t the time that I remembered (haha I actually had to look up what my best time was for this post!) but people running along side me.
The people cheering me on, giving me finish line high fives, and the friendships that turned into family.
I guess what I’m trying to say is, we all start somewhere.
Time is only ONE way to measure a run, and to be honest, it’s not a very good one.
Cheers to another race in the books! Congrats to all of the finishers yesterday!

I shared this photo on my stories the other day and got lots of responses on it so I figured, I’d re-share here. I want you guys to know what micro-changes made huge differences for me. Because in a world of insta-everything, sometimes we can be so incredibly hard on ourselves. On the left, I was ... I shared this photo on my stories the other day and got lots of responses on it so I figured, I’d re-share here. I want you guys to know what micro-changes made huge differences for me. Because in a world of insta-everything, sometimes we can be so incredibly hard on ourselves. On the left, I was working out two times a day 5-6 times a week 😱! I was exhausting my body, starving myself, depriving myself of food of carbs, of sugars — basically everything I needed to recover, heck to LIVE. Then I would binge eat like crazy. Worst of all? I was so incredibly hard on myself, constantly judging myself for a workout I didn’t do or eating food I shouldn’t have eaten. I was listening to what people said online that “worked for them” instead of trusting myself. On the right, I workout and/or run 3-4 days a week, make sure I get yoga, meditation, gratitude, and REST in. I choose workouts that make me happy and make me feel alive. I’ve finally learned that my muscles can only get stronger if I give them some time to recover. I’m not counting my calories or grams of sugar or carbs anymore or controlling my portions, but just making sure I’m eating REAL food that nourishes my hard working body. Best of all, I’m so thankful for my body and for all it can do for me in a whole day! I stopped criticizing myself everyday in the mirror. I guess what I’m trying to say is... there are no insta-results. But this is YOUR journey, do the things that make YOU feel good and nourished and healthy and alive. There is no one way to get there. You got this. 💪🏽 #melliecay

When I first came on to @adidasrunners, I was a bit scared of hills. It was something I always avoided in my training unless someone forced me to. But knowing I had to lead these runs, I put on my brave face. 😎 Fast forward 4 weeks later and I’m actually enjoying these hills (despite my face ), ... When I first came on to @adidasrunners, I was a bit scared of hills. It was something I always avoided in my training 🙈 unless someone forced me to. But knowing I had to lead these runs, I put on my brave face. 😎 Fast forward 4 weeks later and I’m actually enjoying these hills (despite my face 😝), I love how these uphills (literally) have made my downhills (figuratively) so much easier. I’m saying this because you should know, that even as captains, we can get intimidated by something super challenging and out of our comfort zones. And that you guys as members, inspire us to be better versions of ourselves with your hard work and consistency. I LOVE how much progress I have seen in ALL OF YOU in the past few weeks. 🙌🏽 You are all a constant reminder that anything is possible with a little consistency and sweat. Goats literally climb on you while you’re high to low planking and down dogging. So much fun, and to my surprise planking with a goat on top of me wasn’t ... Goats literally climb on you while you’re high to low planking and down dogging. 😨 So much fun, and to my surprise planking with a goat on top of me wasn’t as hard as I thought it was going to be (haha thank you core strength!)
Benefits of goat yoga 🐐🤸🏽‍♀️? It’s essentially a form of animal-assisted therapy, like therapeutic horseback riding for people with special needs or therapy dogs brought into nursing homes to cheer up the residents. The goat interaction calms people down and improves their mood, which has an overall positive impact as well as complementing the therapeutic effects of yoga. Plus, carrying a goat during a plank is definitely an added challenge!

Tired from all of my travels + added work the last few weeks, I haven’t had much time to get my usual weekly strength training in— something I usually do three times a week (in addition to running). It forced me to focus ... You know the workout was tough when you have sweat imprints on your sports bra. 🙈 Tired from all of my travels + added work the last few weeks, I haven’t had much time to get my usual weekly strength training in— something I usually do three times a week (in addition to running). It forced me to focus on diet, what I was eating, and how much of it... and three weeks later, I’m still feeling super strong and not bloated or guilty like I normally do if I take a few weeks off from strength. Nonetheless, I’m excited to get back to a weekly schedule, but most of all to spend more time with these two 😍😍. We plan to make the next 12 weeks our strongest yet, so let’s call this our before picture 🙌🏽! Thursday’s are our legs day. Here’s the workout for you to try on your own:
Circuit 1:
15 x squat jumps
15 x squats
24 x walking lunges
24 x knee ups (on a step)
Circuit 2:
16 x X-jumps
10 x burpees
24 x weighted step ups
15 x squat and press
Do each circuit twice, for 7 mins (just keep repeating the circuit til 7 mins are up) for a total of 28 mins! And most of all, have fun. 😘

Hi everyone! I’m Mellie! 🏽It’s been a long time since I’ve re-introduced myself. My fitness and wellness journey started about 4-5 years ago. I had just gotten out of an abusive relationship and after lots of bandaids and temporary highs, I woke up one day and decided I was done feeling sorry ... Hi everyone! I’m Mellie! ✌🏽It’s been a long time since I’ve re-introduced myself. My fitness and wellness journey started about 4-5 years ago. I had just gotten out of an abusive relationship and after lots of bandaids and temporary highs, I woke up one day and decided I was done feeling sorry for myself, and I was really done with everyone feeling sorry for me. I made a decision that day to do one thing everyday that made me change. And on that first day, I laced up my shoes, and I went for a run. This Instagram channel became my outlet, the way I documented my journey (this was before influencing was a thing), and my “following” just naturally happened over the course of a few years. Along the way, I made some really amazing lifelong friends. And on a run 3 years ago, I met my now fiancé. Last year, I focused on learning more about fitness — I became a NASM certified trainer and got certified in vinyasa yoga (RYT-200) and yoga sculpt. This year, I am focusing more on overall health and running — mindfulness, nutrition, and coming back to running more often and running with a group. You see, I don’t just believe that sport can change lives, I LIVED it, and continue to live it by changing, by evolving. And by always come back to that single decision to do something everyday that makes me change. And I hope to bring THIS to others as much as humanly possible. Would love to learn about you!! What brought to this space? (Also, P.S. my pants are made from recycled plastic ♻️. And they are legit the most comfortable pants, ever.)

Came in super sore from a leg workout I did yesterday (DOMS 😭), and I think the sweat combined with the infrared heat 🏮 made me walk out of that room sore-free. TBH prior to this, thought infrared was 💯 a gimmick, but I honestly feel so brand new, that I would sit in traffic again to take this class. 🤣 Has anyone else ever felt like this after an infrared heated yoga class?! #notanad #seriouslysurprised
