After a year of big changes, I'm ready to work on hunting for a new place to live and moving on to my career and grad school goals. From the San Diego Bay to Yokohama, Japan and back to Temecula, I've learned a lot about the importance of doing what makes me happy and being able to say no to negativity or things that don't fit into my plans. Life is too short to not be happy-- ❤️

Woke up early to buy #Ghibli Museum tickets. I had a bunch of friends who wanted to go but, more importantly, I promised Chris that someday we would go and I sure as hell wasn't willing to go through this again because last year we missed out. Sure you can get them online but I figured in person, at the #Lawson Loppi machine, it might be easier. Let me assure you... THERE IS NO EASY WAY TO GET TICKETS. They sell tickets for the entire next month starting on the 10th and sell out in minutes. You've gotta be flexible, but I had only one date and time that would work for Chris. So I got there about 15 mins early, fought a scalper, dealt with far too many loading errors and server failures due to too many people trying to buy, but I ended up finally getting in and buying the max tickets (6 at a time per person) for Chris and I, Michelle, Zach, Tiff, and Steph at the time Chris and I needed... But trust me, that was luck because nearly all other times were already sold out within the 5 minutes we had been trying. We helped Lauren next and tried to help people in our UC group chat but failed horribly :(

After completing that hellish experience, I got ready and met up with friends to go to the #IlyaKuvshinov Art Exhibition 2018 at Gallery of Fantastic Art ( #gofa) in #Tokyo. It was gorgeous and we signed the guestbook. From there we ate at Taco Bell (first trip in Japan and, yes, it was better than in the US except the menu is smaller, more expensive, and you don't get to add your own hot sauce). We wandered around for a couple hours and ended up going towards Erika's house where we went to the #TokyoTower and we ate Baskin Robbins (also better in #Japan-- I had a scoop of the salted caramel) and then ate AGAIN a couple hrs later at a #monja place nearby that Erika recommended. It was a stressful but fun binge eating kinda day that made me grateful to be surrounded by ppl I loved 🙃

I met my new favorite ramen place... 天竜 トツカーナモール店!! Known for their ridiculously spicy options, sweet minced meat, sesame flavored broths, and thick noodles, this place has everything you want in ramen. I came here at least once every two weeks while I was in Japan to indulge in the roasted garlic oil Dan Dan noodles (not particularly spicy tbh but the flavor was so rich and comforting). It was conveniently located on the first floor of the Totsukana mall which is near the Totsuka JR station I used everyday by MISH. The guy working there was so kind and always welcomed all of us foreigners so sweetly. You are missed sir and this ramen has forever ruined all other ramen for me. .
.
.
Not into spicy foods? Don't worry, they have other ramen options that are not hot and their gyoza is delicious... It's a must if you're in Totsuka though 👌

Surprise...? I went back back to Oktoberfest in Yokohama with friends after school today. The atmosphere at Oktoberfest events in Japan is amazing. Jeric and I drank a ridiculous amount of beer before they closed and Jules tried out various "cocktail inspired" drinks. I think Jules and I mainly wanted to go back for more gnocchi. Afterwards we all wandered over to Jonathan's cafe when we got back to Totsuka.

Oktoberfest in Yokohama with Kimi today! First of all, let me just say that it was hot as hell with no clouds and over 90% humidity. I don't think I've ever missed dry heat so much in my life. I wore shorts and my legs were sweating-- What the hell is that about?? Refused to wear shorts the rest of this trip because it grossed me out. Anyways, we arrived a little after it opened and it was jammed packed with people. There were so many vendors and foods we wanted to try but the translations were too funny for me to take seriously. I will say though, the gnocchi with the mushroom sauce was probably one of the best things I've ever eaten and it was literally scooped out of a cheese barrel! We had to sit outside and barely got a seat there which made it hard to enjoy though. After our beers and food we had to escape, so we went into the Red Brick Warehouse to cool down. Inside, I won a 500¥ coupon (idk how...) and quickly fell into the Sugi Bee trap that nearly every visiting UC student has fallen victim to. Bought one for a Christmas gift after trying way too many samples even though I wanted to buy everything for myself. Later, we ate some more food, sampled a bunch of sake, and bought a few other Christmas gifts too. It was a nice day and we got to enjoy a cooler night when we left but it was still far too humid for me to handle. I have never sweat out alcohol so quickly in my life... Felt that beer in my pores... 🙃

Went to Namja Town in Ikebukuro for their Halloween section and gyoza museum. Probably the best gyoza I've ever had and I am going to spend so much damn time trying to figure out how to make mine taste like this when I get home. Explored some of the creepy shit they had but we missed the nighttime haunted house (thank goodness... It would have been too much for me 😬). .
.
Ended up heading back to Totsuka and found my new favorite izakaya which had 298¥ mega highball and some of the saltiest damn karaage I've ever had.

Went to Ikebukuro with @killojules and @eri_way to explore the Mega Tokyo Pokémon Center. We saw all sorts of Halloween themed characters and gifts. It was a really large store. In the center of the mall an idol group was performing. They attracted a ridiculous amount of grown men... It was pretty gross tbh. The mall was filled with people watching and afterwards they conducted a drawing to be allowed to walk by and say hi for a second or two. So orderly, but still weird to me. Later we went to the Milky Way Cafe that overlooks the main street in the area. It was really nice. The food portions were huge and everything was based on astrology and astronomy! We ordered our parfait by astrology signs. It was pretty cute. By the end we were all miserably full of dairy. If you go, share 1 parfait for 3 people... Not 2. It was such a good time :)

My phone also decided to let me know that in case another big earthquake comes, women need face mask and aromatherapy to survive so I should be prepared... Wtf 🙃

Met up with Sarah to see the last night of the Sailor Moon Musical fully knowing typhoon #2 was coming to kick some ass. By the time I was nearly there my MGU group chat informed me trains would be shutdown but I was already too far committed to being stranded in Tokyo. .
.
Enjoyed the show and the surprising events that unfolded there, including an unscripted, forced kiss, an actress who forgot which character she was playing while singing, the tearful sobbing of the actresses in the closing commentary of the show, and the weird feeling of being one of maybe 5 females there... Apparently they were idols this time?😬
.
.
Friend let me stay at her place last minute and we BARELY made it onto the last metro out of Tokyo before all trains (Metro, JR, & private) shut down early because of the typhoon and damage. Got off the train & nearly got blown away only to find out that people wiped out all the konbini because they were deeply concerned about the typhoon fucking shit up. They weren't wrong to worry... Spent the whole night terrified in Sarah's room. We drank heavily and soothed some of the typhoon anxiety (it was my 1st serious one... I was so scared) with some K-pop karaoke. So grateful to Sarah for all this.
.
.
Next day it took me foreverrrrrrr to get from Kawasaki to Yokohama (normally a 25 min ride at most). I left super early but train delays, track damage, rush hour, and accidents involving ppl lead to a migraine of a morning. I stood at one of the platforms for over an hour and kept having to switch trains. Had to skip an entire day of classes.
.
.
Will I ever go out on the night of a typhoon again? Hard pass... But I did have a great time and experienced some real fear in Japan ❤️

Also visited the Tsukiji Honganji! It was beautiful.

It was the first night staying somewhere outside the dorm! Goodbye curfew and stress about the last train! Friends chose the #wiseowlhostelsshibuya which was known for an owl that you can meet at night there. Her name is Hachi and she was huge. I was low key terrified of her but wanted to set her free. Went to my first Japanese baseball game and saw the Tokyo Giants take on the Yokohama Baystars. Drank a ridiculous amount of highball and realized that shitty stadium food is a global phenomenon. Learned that Japanese sports fans live on another planet and they go all out for the chants and apparel. Nearly everyone there came straight from work but was still ready to demonstrate their team pride and PARTY. It was amazing and I was shocked how full the stadium was. Heading back after the game we went to Denny's... Yeah, Denny's. It was the worst thing I've put in my face this whole trip and the vibe there was gnarly (mostly drunk salarymen passed out in/near their food). Had a great night with some amazing friends I hope to keep for life ❤️

Can't tell you how much I appreciate the friends who came all the way to Japan to show me some love too. Still wild to me that you guys were willing to do something like that out of the blue. Also, I am finally throwing in the towel on those daily posts that I was trying to do over a month ago on FB & Insta. Hahah, sorry... I can't commit to social media like that & already behind on those Insta-stories I promised a grip of you. Going to try harder to be more social ❤️

Been fighting some sort of illness-- Don't worry, I'm doing fine! Just nothing special to share and I'm a bit dead while trying to catch up on posts and such. Navigating Japanese medicine has been really difficult for me and I'm not sure the choices I've made were the most suitable for my symptoms. I also tried out my kitchenette and must admit that it is absolutely amazing. My soup was ready in less than a minute! So glad I packed my favorite soup for when I am sick... It's been hard being sick and alone but my friends have checked in on me periodically and I'm so grateful for their generosity and consideration ❤️ We had a welcome dinner and sports festival the other day but I only made it to the dinner since I've been resting as much as possible. We were provided sushi and a variety of pizzas from Domino's. I've gotta admit it was pretty delicious and did taste a bit different. They got like one of each type of sports drink, juice, and soda... Can't get over names like "hotel breakfast." They were all good though.
Also, enjoy the horrifying Minnie Mouse like character that is in our dining hall. I know she's a parody, but I honestly feel like she wants to feed on the blood of her enemies... Begone evil 🙏🙄
