Where do I even begin? 2018 was the most fluctuating year I've had since I can remember.

JANUARY
It all started with my Hernia operation at the start of the year with 4 months of rehab and starting preseason with Southside Comets.

MAY
I made my National Premier League debut with Cairns FC and scoring my 1st goal in my 2nd appearance. Whilst the league was very challenging, I'm so thankful for the amazing experience and opportunity to grow and improve as a player.

JULY
After making 6 appearances for Cairns FC, I tore my ACL and meniscus in my left knee during a training session and received surgery in early August.

DECEMBER
Now I am here with 5 months of rehab under my belt and I wouldn't change how the year turned out.

After my first surgery in January, I wasn't expecting to reach my goal of playing in the NPL this year but I somehow managed to overcome the obstacles. Everything has happened for a reason and despite not even being halfway into my ACL rehab, I'm quite optimistic for what lies ahead in 2019.

What I will say to you is to never doubt your abilities as a player and human being. You honestly can never know what you are capable of if you legitimately set your mind with patience, positivity and persistence. Go into 2019 with an aim to face your fears and challenge yourself, you'll thank me this time next year 😏

PURPOSE

Have you ever felt fatigued during a game to the point where your legs are burning and they can't keep up with what your mind is telling them to do? Here's a technical conditioning drill designed to improve your ball mastery and dribbling whilst under fatigue.
1| Perform freestyle ball mastery for 20-30 seconds inside the square.

2| Exit the square and dribble around each of the 4 points with pace. Return to the square after reaching each point.

V O L U M E

REPS : 3-5
SETS : 3-5
RECOVERY : 30 seconds between sets.
TIPS

Focus on using a variety of ball mastery techniques with less ground and ball contact time. Perform every touch with speed. After a couple of sets your legs will burn and you won't be able to perform the ball mastery as efficiently as the first set, so expect to make mistakes it's the only way to improve.

During the dribbling phase, focus on your ability to accelerate and decelerate around the 4 cones using the "touch step" method. Having the ability to change pace with the ball instantly is an essential skill every footballer needs to have.

Part of the reason we enjoy hearing stories and watching movies is by how they move us and allow us to navigate through a world without limitation. We don't fast forward the movie to the ending or skip to the sequel, we want to experience and be overwhelmed by all the emotion, captivated with excitement and lost in the moment, but when it's over, we return to reality, the walls resurface and the rules are reinstated.

The question hit me, why should we have to retreat to this microcosm of our ideal world depicted on a screen in a dark room to think it's acceptable to step outside this everyday script?
Is it incomprehensible that the same excitement, love, emotion be inserted into your world? It's like we choose to be chased by ticking clocks and measured by social expectations and environments.

Working like a madman for someone else is not mandatory, living for the weekends is not mandatory. Being confined to one road when there are infinite paths to be travelled is not mandatory. Nothing in life is destined, pre determined or meant to be. Everthing is decided, life is chosen, paths are taken. You're not alive to every so often escape, you're here to experience the imaginary and challenge the make believe.

I'm out here in the USA doing what I love with a ball at my feet because I believe in my own script. So please do yourself a favour and understand that this world is your movie production, you're the director and you're in control.

The best movie is being produced right in front of you and the storyline is in your hands.

Apologies for the lack of content over the past week and to my YouTube audience who haven't seen a vlog in what seems to be a lifetime! The uploads are coming back soon don't worry!

But here's just a quick life update with what seems to be a spontaneous trip to the USA is actually a mindshift of priorities for the time being. The ACL rehab process is going well and I am here in the USA to continue my physiotherapy and treating each day with 100% focus on getting back to full fitness. I've got approximately 6-8 months to go before I can start training and playing again, I'll be posting a rehab video in the following days.

However, for those who have been following my journey for at least the past 6 months, you know I had a knee reconstruction which of course meant I couldn't focus on my football which at the time was the worst possible outcome for me considering the momentum I forged for myself in 2018.

Despite being on the recieving end of possibly the worst injury of my career so far, I haven't allowed my situation to hinder my progress. Trust me, I wish nothing more than to be back on the pitch playing the sport I love. Although I'm not wearing my boots, shinnies, playing kit or having a ball at my feet, I've momentarily shifted my focus on developing other areas of my life.

I'm here in Los Angeles travelling the USA for 6 weeks, to develop @easa_australia with my business partner @geraldtan_ with a mission to create the most dynamic and innovative college scouting agency in the world. We are meeting with some reputable college teams and coaches to build our network to support our athletes ambitions. But most importantly, we are on the move.

If you ever encounter a scenario that only the supernatural can change, shift your focus from a self limiting perspective to something you can change and influence. It may not be your ideal choice but it's important to always be on the move in life because the clock doesn't stop ticking. Never stand still for too long or you might just become good at it.

All the hours spent in the gym leading up to this moment has been worth it. As you can see, my balance, stability and proprioception has plenty of room for improvement and I never thought it would be this difficult to pass a ball 5 metres! 😅

However, my first massive milestone has been reached and to be able to incorporate a football into my rehab program truly relieves the mental pressure associated with the knee reconstruction process.

There's still plenty of challenges ahead to overcome over the next 6 months but nothing has stopped me before when there's a ball at my feet ⚽💯

The physical and psychological components associated with injuries presents a common issue with many footballers. Many players struggle to return to their best form and are often finding themselves a shadow of their former self or even worse, they manage to repeatedly injure themselves.

Why is this a major issue and what can be done to prevent this from happening?

Over the course of the last 6 months I've had the unfortunate experience of suffering my first long term injury in the form of a torn hip flexor (inguinal hernia) and it's safe to say the physical, psychological and emotional stress associated has been overwhelmingly difficult to comprehend.
