I learned about the flossing technique from @perform_better at their yearly Summit. And it had me thinking of ways to add some external stimulation to the body to correct certain movements.
I could never for the life of me do this hip mobility drill until today after I added the band.
The body is amazing at how it responds so quickly to our external environment.
I can’t wait to keep learning from my experiences, through myself and my clients, as well as listening and watching my successors who have been an inspiration to me.

Scapular and Anti Rotational Core Stability have become such a common place in training and strength & conditioning that they are considered essentials in Performance Enhancement Training.

One of the most common questions I receive is about Variations or Progressions for exercises, and in particular, stability progressions.  Here is one of my favorite stability progressions for pushing.  It is a combination of a:
🔸Push Up
🔸Scapular Y Pattern with Anterior Load
🔸Anti Rotation Plank
🔸Lat Pulldown (due to the frictional resistance created when pulling the slider back to starting position)
—> A lot of bang for your buck

Coaching Points:
1️⃣ Core: Abs drawn in and braced, quads and glute contracted, chin tucked, eyes looking straight down
2️⃣ Scapulae: Depressed and slightly protracted with scap packed on ribcage
3️⃣ Screw the stable hand into the floor (outward rotation) upon decent
4️⃣ Actively slide the Valslide at a 45-60˚ angle upward maintaining a soft but stable elbow
5️⃣ Ascend by continuing to screw hand into the floor and pulling the slider arm actively back to the starting position
6️⃣ Avoid Thoracic or Pelvic rotation
7️⃣ Keep toes pointing straight down and feet parallel

Reps: 4-8 per arm
Tempo: 3221 - 2010

Understanding how the body works gives us some important ideas! We know the #glutes work with the #core and lats in one of the important chains in the body. So if we can integrate and connect this chain we will find better strength, balance, and stability. What’s up Achievers?! @jasonlpak here and today we have four drills to help you address anterior pelvic tilt. If you don’t know, anterior pelvic tilt is essentially an excessive arch in the lower back which can be caused by a multitude of different factors such as a sedentary lifestyle, restrictions in your hip flexors, less-than-optimal core strength, or an overall lack of awareness of pelvic alignment. Anterior pelvic tilt while exercising or in every day life can potentially place undue stress on the lower back. This four-step process can help give you better awareness to more neutral positioning and improve the stability in your core.

1️⃣BANDED PELVIC TILTS: Take a band (we’re using a cook band from @perform_better here) and place it under your lower back. Assume a hooklying position (lying on your back with your knees bent) and press your arms up toward the ceiling. From there, relax and allow the band to pull you into extension, then do the opposite - work against the band to press your back into the floor.

2️⃣BANDED SINGLE LEG LOWERS: Now work on maintaining the push into the band with your back flat, while slowly extending one leg out straight. Bring that leg back in and alternate sides without letting your low back arch!

3️⃣SUPINE MARCHING: Remove the feedback of the band and now use your new understanding of alignment to keep your back flat on the floor. Bring both legs up to 90 degree angles and place your arms by your sides. Slowly tap one heel down, then switch sides, all while maintaining alignment.

4️⃣DEAD BUGS: Now incorporate the arms as well by starting with arms and legs up. Lower your opposite arm and leg toward the floor. This will be the most ch

🔹Move 1 - plank tap outs; shoulder/core stabilization and strength •45-60 seconds
🔹Move 2 - banded dead bug; core stabilization and strength. Make sure your low back is anchored to the ground the entire time #kiracue - squeeze the glute of the extended leg (this will help ensure your low back remains on the ground) and pause for 2 seconds each rep in order to truly connect with your core. I call dead-bug (with or without the band) a true ‘core connector’ •45-60 seconds
🔹Move 3 - banded bicycle; core/abs strength; more of a time under tension abs exercise. I love using the band for this as it forces you to extend the leg with purpose, rather than kick uncontrollably. Work the rotation here to feel the goodness in your obliques •45-60 seconds
🔹Move 4 - panther/quadruped taps; core strength/stability; work to keep hips stable and knees a few inches off the ground. Feel the glute medius as you tap out •45-60 seconds
🔹perform the entire circuit 3 times through💪🏼

When it comes to addressing the hamstrings, most people are great with sagittal plane focused movements including hip/knee flexion and extension. However, the hamstrings are not oriented just in the sagittal plane‼️This is due to different insertion points of the individual hamstring muscles ⏬read more⏬

The hamstrings is a muscle group that consists of the biceps femoris long and short head, semimembranosus, and semitendinosus. All of the hamstring muscles except the biceps femoris short head originate on the ischial tuberosity, but they insert on different locations near the knee. Due to the different insertion points, the hamstrings not only contribute to sagittal plane movement, but also transverse plane rotational movements.

Adding rotational movements to eccentric biased hamstring exercises is essential to fully address the hamstrings. Two traditional hamstring exercises you can add rotation to are 1️⃣RDLs 2️⃣ Airplanes

Video 1️⃣ RDLs ➡️ make it easier by providing a target, such as foam rollers.

Video 2️⃣ Airplanes ➡️ cue the person to reach for the inside/outside of the foot that is on the ground to help groove the rotation.

Four years ago I met @kenwhit16 through a mutual friend. During our first conversation I had told Ken that I had not walked since elementary school and that my long term goal was to do so again. Ken designed a program around my limitations all well keeping my goal in mind. We started to work on building my strength by doing exercises like dead bugs,planks and ball roll outs to strengthen my core. Then we started to build my leg strength by doing exercises like box squats, split squats then RFE spit squats. I then was able to get leg braces but I still didn’t have a walker so Ken came up with the idea to use a @perform_better med ball rack to simulate a walker. After months of conditioning I was able to walk 3 laps around a track. Needless to say we have both put a ton of work in. It is bittersweet to say Ken has gotten the opportunity of a lifetime to work with the Boston Bruins so we will no longer be working together but I am so proud and thankful for everything he has done for me! Last night at his celebration dinner I showed up using my walker for the first time.

Using the "offset" load technique (in this case a kettlebell), changes the body's center of gravity.
In this example my c.o.g. Has moved up and to the right, meaning that my core is being challenged and I'm basically doing an active side plank on the left side.
Watch people doing offset work or offset loaded carries and you'll notice their opposite arm reaching out in a bid to re-establish center or gravity. Keeping the opposite arm close to the body forces the core to work harder.

Get your big toe and hips to move better.

Give this drill a try as a part of your warm up before you run your sprints.

1) Start in a tall kneeling position.
2) Pull Toes Under your feet
3) Sit back on your heels
4) Drive your hips forward as you step forward with one leg.
5) Establish a strong base before you reset.
6) At the end position you should have a line from your back knee on the ground through the crown of your head.
* This is not the shin position on the front leg for a sprint but in this drill we are prioritizing the big toe, hip extension, and torso position, not the shin angle.

If I had to pick two of my favorite tools to increase swing speed and get us COMFORTABLE w/ gripping it & ripping it- it’s these two: kettlebells and medballs😉
.
I love seeing women who are confident and secure with getting aggressive in the gym AND with their swing speed. Swing speed and distance doesn’t come from being delicate😂 it’s about adding some muscle and USING it.
.
But I get it! Sometimes it can be hard trying to decipher what “speed” actually comes from! I mean we hear it all the time, “don’t swing so fast” and “slow it down!” While those definitely have merit in certain situations (go see your local @lpgateachers & @pga pro for the swing help) it doesn’t mean that once you get a smooth, oiled, mechanically great swing, that you can’t learn to rip it. Not being afraid to absolutely WIND. UP. and compress the ball is so freeing⚡️ (and let’s be honest, we love when the ball flies past our competitors😂)
.
SO, if you want MORE of that feeling, MORE swing speed, and PRACTICE, with REALLY letting loose on the ball....here are two of my favorite moves I like using with my clients and in my own personal training regimen.

1️⃣ Medball side toss
✨Squeeze glutes
✨Core tight ✨Load up and let it rip
2️⃣Kettlebell swings
✨Hips low to start
✨Hike it like a 🏈
✨Get “plank” tight at the top
✨Hinge your butt back

However- as you’ll notice it is FAR from a “crunch” and not the only thing you’ll see on this page.

Now don’t get me wrong, core stability is KEY to an efficient golf swing and a healthy lifestyle. But it’s not the forefront. It’s a piece of the puzzle:)

But since this is my most frequently asked question, let’s bring on the STIR-THE-POT:
.
✅Plank position
✅Stir your arms to the left, then to the right
✅Ribs down and squeeze your 🍑
.
.
WHY WE NEED THIS FOR 🏌🏻‍♀️:
.
✅Without cores stability we have trouble disassociating. Aka- no power generation and efficient swing speed.
✅Low back tenderness is most often due to weak glutes ( 🍑) and a weak core.
✅With a strong core, mobile hips/tspine, and strong glutes, you can grip it and rip it all you want;)

A lot of my clients say to me “you make it look so easy” when I demonstrate an exercise.

What you don’t see here is the ten videos I shot prior to this one with poor form and couldn’t remember which side to switch the bell to (my form still wasn’t great)

Here I’m using a 15 pound #leverbell for the first time from @perform_better. I, like all of my clients have to practice exercises and #functionaltrainingtools before I become good at them.

When I feel like I know how to use them, and understand the why behind the exercise, then and only then will I introduce them to a client. #responsibility
