It's been one of those days where I actually seriously wish I liked to drink coffee (I hate coffee). The toddler won't nap but of course is sick and grouchy and everything is setting her off today, so all I want to do is pass out on the couch from sheer exhaustion. ⠀ 😴😴⠀ But you guys. 😴😴⠀
But you guys. I'm so thankful for the outpouring of support on my last post! You are all awesome and although we still have a ways to go, we are making progress and that's all I could ask for. Please keep sending people my way and we can make some big waves for eating disorder awareness.⠀
💪🏻⠀
Speaking of waves... I keep daydreaming about our time in sunny Mexico a few years back and am really trying to avoid thinking about how cold it is outside still. Anyone else ready for warm weather?! I'm still snuggled up under my electric blanket all day every day... ❄️🌬🙈⠀

And while I’m so incredibly grateful for the two ladies who’ve booked (😘😘), we are a long way from our goal. Last year we raised over $1,700 and I hope this year we can at least match that, but I’d really love to hit $2,500. Just as a reminder, every penny of your mini session fee goes straight to @neda to help fight eating disorders. So, April 7. Be there. Message me for details. Or check out the link in my profile. But please please tag three people below who could use updated portraits that benefit a great cause! I can’t do this without you. 💙💚💙💚 .
EDIT: PS the mini sessions are INSIDE at the gorgeous indoor location in this photo! So no worries about silly Iowa weather! 🙌🏻

I am a wedding and portrait photographer, but most days you can find me in a messy bun reading the same five books over and over to my 2-year-old. Really, I've got them all memorized. 🙈 ⠀
.⠀
I got glasses last year and I hate them. 🤓 I am also starting vision therapy (like physical therapy for your eyes) to hopefully correct some of the many eye issues that have developed the last few years. Ugh. Crossing my fingers I won't have to wear glasses after therapy is done. 🤞🏻⠀
.⠀
Tacos are a main food group in our household, but I really hate to cook so it's a good thing they are easy. Actually I'd rather cook than go grocery shopping...⠀
.⠀
I keep asking my husband (who I fondly refer to as The Mister) to move us some place warmer than northern Iowa but he just rolls his eyes. But seriously... this weather, amirite?! Double tap if you are ready for SUN and SUMMER! ☀️☀️⠀

You see, we didn’t have any idea that the majority of those suffering from eating disorders are of normal weight, not skeletal thin like you see in the media. We didn’t know that eating disorders can affect people as early as middle school (or even before). And even once we were aware that my little sister was struggling with an eating disorder, we didn’t know how to help her. Some days we still don’t know how to help her. So we walk. We walk for awareness. To bring to light that eating disorders have the highest mortality rate of all mental illnesses. To remind you that eating disorders are NOT a choice. They are bio-psycho-social diseases, which means that genetic, biological, environmental, and social elements all play a role. We also walk to raise money. To support organizations that lobby our government to support those with eating disorders. To help fund research to aid in future treatment programs. To provide resources and crisis hotline help for people deep in the trenches of this terrible illness. Will you join us? Check the link in my profile for info how to help! And give this image a DOUBLE TAP so more people will see it! ❤️❤️ 📷 Photo by the crazy talented @yonigill

10 Things I Have to Tell Myself Otherwise My Eating Disorder Wins:

1) You’re beautiful, not just because of what’s on the outside, but because you’re kind, smart, and caring. People will remember how you make them feel, not how you look.
2) Just because you’re not a size zero, does NOT mean you’re not worthy of love, friendships, promotions, and/or successes in life (this one is by far the hardest to believe). 3) Food is there to nourish your body, to fuel your brain, and to help strengthen your muscles
4) Pizza is good. Chocolate is good. French fried are good. Beer is good. Enjoying these things in moderation will not make you ugly/gross/fat/unworthy
5) Exercise is NOT a way to “fix” what you’ve eaten in a day. It is a way to prove to yourself that your body is strong, it is capable of great things. (This one is also really hard)
6) It is ok to stumble. It is ok to not be perfect. It’s ok to not fit into the “typical” eating disorder stereotype.
7) It is 100% ok to ask for help. It is ok and possible to live a life where you do not suffer greatly from this mental disorder
8) Self care does not always have to include working out. It’s ok to skip a workout to strengthen relationships, whether that be with other people or yourself. Remember, the most important relationship is with yourself. (Naps are also good)
9) You can’t control everything, and that is ok.
10) Authenticity is beautiful. Messiness is beautiful. Grace is beautiful.
Having access to affordable and helpful mental health treatments is so important to the survival of eating disorder patients, and while there have been great steps taken, there is still father to go. Ive been extremely lucky that I had a great support system and went to a great treatment center where they treated me with respect, rather than turning me away because I wasn’t emaciated or thought I looking for attention or “having a bad day.” An eating disorder is a lifetime of struggle, with seasons of happiness and seasons of darkness. If you are suffering, it’s ok to get help. You’re not weak, you’re not being a baby. You’re being so strong. You can fight this. #neda #nedawareness

It’s a hard thing to combine traditions from two completely different families. His family opened gifts on Christmas Eve, mine on Christmas morning. I suppose our own traditions will evolve as time goes by, but I think Christmas Eve pizza and Christmas morning cinnamon French toast is a really good start. 😍

We’ve been noticing it for a while… a squirrel or rabbit in front of her that goes unnoticed. Turning into a wall or piece of furniture. Then yesterday she ran straight into a bright pink step stool while walking across the living room. So we took her in and the vet confirmed: our dog is going blind. 😭 Even though deep down I knew it was happening, the vet confirmation hits me right in the gut. She’s already had a rough transition with the addition of a baby getting all of the attention and now a toddler who is grabby (we have to keep them separated because of nipping issues 😞) and this just feels like a kick when she’s already down. Ugh I just feel so bad for her! We know she still has at least some vision but it does appear to be getting worse and I know it’s only a matter of time. Any tips for helping ease the transition? Comment below or tag someone who has a blind dog! This distraught puppy mom needs all the advice she can get! 😩😩⠀
