This is Kate's favorite active flexibility exercise for the upper back. You need a foam and a theraband. Place the foam roller at the bottom of your shoulder blades, pla e one foot in the theraband and hold each end in either hand. Hold one leg up and don't move it at all, the with arms as straight and narrow as possible, shoulders elevated towards your ears, and arms trying to be in line with your ears, pull into a back extension using your back and shoulder muscles, the goal is to eventually tap your wrists to the floor. Do 10 repetitions, then hold at the bottom for a 10 count. Repeat on a second time using your other leg as an anchor.
Tora Holmes works out at home.
Tora is an Oregon native that grew up in wine country and moved to “big city” Portland in 2006. She has been drawn to the stage in one form or another since she was old enough to walk, and often used to direct, costume and act in plays with the neighborhood kids on her backyard picnic table “stage”. Since those days, she’s studied ballet, jazz, tap, hip hop and musical theater; and spent most of her teens and early 20’s on stage at Gallery Players of Oregon in both musicals and straight plays. She has recently returned to Gallery as a choreographer for several productions. Tora discovered aerial when a friend brought her to one of A-WOL’s Art in the Dark shows and she decided she needed to do that immediately! Tora completed A-WOL’s FlyCo training company in 2016 and began performing with Circus Rose the following season. When Tora’s not flying through the air, you can find her baking for her small business, Tippy Star Cheesecakes or caring for all of the animals in NE Portland. In the event that she gets free time, Tora enjoys relaxing with friends or snuggling with her kitties.

Rachel Belling is a current A-WOL company member, instructor and youth manager. Rachel took on the role of the youth manager at the beginning of 2017. If you have a student between the ages of 4-17 years you have likely chatted with her via email. While most of her daily work is communication with the families of A-WOL students and incoming students, she also runs A-WOL’s annual student showcase and you may also see her instructing a class or training. Rachel is excited to help create a welcoming space, accessible to all, where young students can not only train in aerial and movement but also be exposed to art and creativity in their lives. She loves that A-WOL provides both of these things in a positive and encouraging environment.
Can’t wait to get back at it with you @rachmariebe.

Dear A-WOL community,
We love our vibrant community, and realize that it provides significant social, emotional, physical, and financial support for so many members and staff alike. While the decision to close has not been an easy one, we have decided to close our doors from Monday, March 16th - 29th in order to do our best to support the health of the larger community in the wake of COVID-19. This includes all youth classes, adult programming, pro-gyms, open-gyms, and workshops. As of right now, our plan is to re-open on Monday, March 30th, and we are looking forward to reconnecting with all of your beautiful faces! Please know that we will continue to be in contact throughout closure with updates on what you can expect and any changes moving forwards.
A Note on Memberships/Packages:
This is a trying time for us all and we know that many will be impacted financially and emotionally. As you have likely already heard, complete closures like these are very hard on arts organizations like ours that already operate on slim margins. We are requesting that members try to retain their membership at this time if they are able. We are working on ways to make this up to you, though at this time we are awaiting more information before definite plans can be made. We thank you for your patience,, your love, and hope that you will continue to send positivity and kindness to those around you.
Interested in supporting / staying involved?
If you have a few dollars to assist in covering our operating costs during a period in which we are unable to generate revenue - we are accepting support! Any amount, big or small is a HUGE help - and a lovely reminder that we get to see you again in the future. In addition, if you have the means & security at this point in time, please consider doing something similar for the other small service-based businesses you care about.
