let’s just be real, because its pretty damn evident: Donald can’t stand women of color. He verbally insulted @Yamiche *again,* and told her to “be nice,” while having her mic revoked. His behavior tonight is no different than how he spoke to April. Or AOC. Or Ilhan. Or Ayanna.
Do you even understand the symbolism of that? There aren’t many of us in these rooms and representation matters. The mistreatment of black women in America is too a virus, long overdue for treatment. This was triggering as I was reminded of the ways in which we are continuously silenced and branded, even when we’ve done absolutely nothing wrong.
There is so much fear and sadness in the world right now—except when I look at you. As my sweet mommy has always told me, “I love you more than all of the sand on all of the oceans in all of beaches in the world, and then some.” And, as Mimi says, “all of the tea in China.” Thank you babe for being the wind beneath my wings. 🧿
My beautiful, brilliant, kind, loving and sweet future-in-laws, just celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary. God is amazing. He won’t ever abandon us. Wishing you two a very Happy Anniversary.❤️💕
I keep posting the same photos from my last trip home to Sudan. We used to go every year—I haven’t been back since May 2017. So much has changed, but I hope, when I come back, some will still remain the same. I miss drinking tea in the courtyard with Mama Etemad and bringing Uncle Najib glasses of cold water filled with lime juice, while listening to Uncle Ibrahim share stories of the good ol’ days. I miss watching the sunset over the horizon and driving around with Fadia late at night for pizza.
I miss the love and kindness shared between our people...and the day two strangers became family with a smile. I can’t forget the lesson you taught me, when you extended your hand to me, we felt part of one another, that day.
I still haven’t forgotten you.
I’ll look for you in others, until we meet again. Inshallah, you’ll remember me when I come home again.
