⛪Majestic Red Brick Church
📌Pavia's Only Gem ⛪Santa Monica Church of Pavia, Iloilo is one of the best maintained and restored churches in the province. It is a unique church among others – the only one made of red bricks inside and out in the whole of Panay. Truly, a majestic church to behold with influences derived from other places of worship located halfway around the globe – Italy. It was envisioned and built in Byzantine style, with Romanesque design elements and originally made out of coral stones, mortar of lime and native chicken eggs, and red bricks marked 'Castella' in the early 1800s. It has survived all earthquakes and bombings during the Japanese-American war in the Philippines and used to serve as refugee camp. 📍Quite significantly, the church design was apparently inspired by the ancient royal arch-basilica of San Michele Maggiore in Pavia, Italy .
