One of my favorite moments covering the 2016 election was getting to catch up and interview my friend @nbcnightlynews Anchor @lesterholtnbc from his @nbcnews perch above the #DNC in Philadelphia.
🇺🇸 Here we are, 47 days out until the 2020 election and I can’t help but wonder what my TV friends are doing to prepare and cover what has been a crazy election season (aren’t they all).
🇺🇸 Here’s a fun fact: Journalists like Lester, originally from Sacramento!, are real people, too. He has no hidden agenda- regardless of what you may think of him. He is genuine, smart, so well-read and at the end of the day loves getting to share what’s going on in the world and educate you. For decades, he’s been a steady hand, giving us a closer look at issues, making us think, and trust in him. He’s my favorite in the biz & someone I’ve always looked up to.
🇺🇸 It makes me sad that the news media has gotten a bad name, but I get it. Some networks are better than others and they’ve certainly shifted to commentary over giving just the facts.
🇺🇸 For me, it was such an honor to work hard and get the story right, with no bias, no pre-conceived notions. I loved traveling and meeting so many interesting people who all had a story to tell- yes, even politicians!
🇺🇸 This is a reminder to VOTE! And to appreciate your favorite TV news anchors who are good people, too- I promise! Who are YOUR favorites to watch?!?
Every Wednesday I’m going to highlight women in my life that I care about and look upto, women who are doing amazing things, crushing their goals and being a boss! Yes, it’s a long hashtag but it’s my version of #wcw (woman crush Wednesday)!
💁🏼♀️ This week its @margaretohair! A kindergarten teacher, author, Mom, Wife & lover of all dogs.
💁🏼♀️ I just met Meg last weekend on my women’s retreat and I already feel like I’ve known her for years. She’s beyond selfless and has given so much to her little students, especially amidst this pandemic. She jumped in head first, teaching herself all about the online platforms to bring her kids the very best lessons while still keeping a close connection online- she’s a total pro and parents need to appreciate her more! Her creative videos with her dogs are the cutest & she’s changing lives every day.
💁🏼♀️ She’s written SIX children’s books, all containing important messages for kids like, “we are all beautiful, we all have amazing worth, and diversity is what we all have in common.” WOW!!!
💁🏼♀️ Meg is deep in her faith and always turns to God for love, peace, grace and direction in her life... and she’s not afraid to share the gospel with total strangers.
💁🏼♀️ She didn’t know me, yet she took the time to sit me down and give me a step-by-step plan to get my 1st grader through distance learning. She’s emailed me and texted me countless resources to help homeschool and teach my daughter- just because she loves kids so much.
We all need Meg in our lives! She’s a woman I look upto and I’m so proud of her for her many accomplishments... but mostly because she changes lives for the better. Follow her on Instagram @margaretohair or her website: margaretohair.com 💜
Hobbies. What are favorites (and when is the last time you actually did them)?
🎾 Mine is tennis. I started playing by age 6, learning from my favorite tennis pro- my Dad. Man did he have patience when whiney little me would miss shots and hit balls into the net!
🎾 I played all through high school, started out at doubles then worked my way upto #1 singles. I loved the comradery and the competition.
🎾I got too busy with “school work” in college to keep it up. 😉 Obviously @cuboulder was waaaay too much fun!
🎾 I finally picked it up again when I moved to Sac. This picture is from a match my buddy @justinreginato and I won @sutterlawntennis in 2013.
🎾 A baby, work, obligations took over and now COVID. It’s been YEARS since I played competitively! Why do we let the hobbies we love slip away?!
We make excuses and excuses and one day we look back and wonder where the time went. What’s holding YOU back from your hobby? What’s the story you’ve been telling yourself about why you can’t do it? I challenge you to brush off the dust and give it a go. Don’t let COVID stop you! I might just be up for a little competition again. Anyone?!?
So happy to start the week with a clear head and massive motivation for my business after spending the weekend with @lorrianncode, a fitness trainer, life coach & friend.
Mind, Body & Spirit are in alignment!
A few of my favorite nuggets from @soulcamp_ include:
🌟 “Your strength is in your routine.”
🌟 “Nothing changes if nothing changes.”
🌟 “Letting go of the things that do not serve me creates space for the things that love me.”
🌟”Feel the fear and do it anyway.”
Do you have a go-to mantra or a saying that motivates you? Please share & have a great week!
I’ve been experiencing a pretty incredible weekend in Truckee surrounded by nature and a dozen women who want to better themselves personally, spiritually and physically. This is not something I would have ever done before but I’m so glad I said YES to #SoulCamp, led by an amazing fitness trainer, life coach and friend @lorrianncode.
In this chapter of my life, I’m learning so much about owning my own media relations business, but I’m also learning about myself and what I’m truly capable of. And now I have the time and flexibility to do it! Clearing my mind and plotting my next business move!
I challenge you to try something new- get out of the house and your comfort zone and SAY YES! What’s the one thing you want to do by year’s end?!? #motivate #move #getout #enjoylife
This is what parent teacher conferences now look like. (This is one of five screens!)
I have to admit, I feel sad for our kids and the teachers. I could have never imagined this for my 1st grader in my wildest dreams. It’s incredible the domino effect that COVID has had on all of us. It’s still so isolating and I’m starting to see the effects of the lack of socialization for my only child.
Tomorrow is my daughter’s first day of school- virtually. Wish us luck, it’s going to be a bumpy road! How is it going with your children/grandchildren??
Back to blonde! Thx @kombi5150 for the Summer love! 💁🏼♀️ I’m wishing all of those in the beauty industry the very best while your businesses are trying to survive COVID. I know it’s been so difficult trying to make a living while being forced to pull back and offer your services outside in this heat! Hang in there- we will get through this! Sending lots of love! 💛

Tonight was the last night of the Democratic National Convention- did you watch any of it?
My how different it was from the last one in Philadelphia! I’m proud of the work we did covering all the angles for our viewers in California. I lost track of how many interviews I did (including @kamalaharris) and the hours we worked for a week straight. It was one of the most memorable times in my TV career.

4 years ago- July 28, 2016. I was covering the Democratic National Convention in Philadelphia and look who happened to be broadcasting right next to me!!! Took this picture about 30 seconds before I went LIVE on the air, then ran after @katiecouric’s big interview when she was done.
California Governor Jerry Brown had just sat down with Katie and was with his entourage on his way to the next cable news outlet, so I cornered him with my photographer and got my questions in first. Ha! Gotta be a little scrappy sometimes when you're a local news anchor...
#challengeaccepted @j_u_s_t_j_a_n_e_l_l_e_ @audramincey @danielleleighnews & all the other beautiful women who messaged me! I would not be where I am today without all the incredible women in my life and we have to continue to build each other up and support our sisterhood! #womensupportingwomen Xoxo
8 years ago. My photographer Marcelino and I had just finished our last LIVE shot in Aurora, Colorado covering the movie theater shooting over two days for KCRA in Sacramento.
I remember calling my news director as soon as I heard the news and pushed him to fly us out to Colorado to cover the tragedy. I knew I could easily maneuver us around and get the contacts we needed, after living in Denver my entire life.
It was brutal, exhausting, incredibly emotional and yet- one of the most meaningful stories I’ve ever covered. There are no words to describe the heartbreak after 12 people were killed and 70 others injured by gunfire, innocent people who had just gone to a midnight showing of “The Dark Knight Rises”. It was the deadliest shooting since Columbine.
My heart still aches for these families who no doubt are still suffering on this day, 8 years later. I’m proud to have told their stories and feel so honored they trusted me in their most vulnerable moments. Lots of love and hugs between our LIVE shots...
