The Upper East Side along 5th Avenue is where the "Old Money" resides in beautiful pre-war Co-Op buildings with unionized doormen. Not just everyone can live here as the Co-Op Boards have strict policies in regards to the "acceptance" of proposed residents. The SoHo and TriBeCa areas have experienced higher average prices as the Condominium market/new construction and lifestyle seems more attractive to the affluent younger generations. Of course if you can pass the entrance test and would prefer an Upper East Side address, for $15,000 per month a 4 bedroom apartment can be had in this beauty. #uppereastside #5thavenue #centralpark #architecture #nycityworld

5 Bucks to hem a pair of pants while you wait. What more could you possibly want? With the on going gentrification of the Lower East Side, such establishments will likely become an unfortunate thing of the past in the not too distant future. Sometimes growth is to the detriment of the cultural fabric we all appreciate. Don't forget to pay the lady or "No Pants For You!"

Of the 195 countries in the world 193 are member states of the UN. Completed in 1952, the headquarters are not appreciated by many in Manhattan due to the costs and traffic issues caused when dignitaries visit. I would give a gold medal to the Architects, one of which was Corbusier, for the striking design.

Completed in 1930, the Chrysler Building is the tallest steel framed brick building in the world and tied for 13th tallest skyscraper in the United States. It was the tallest building in the world for 11 months, until the Empire State Building was built in 1931. It was personally owned and constructed by Walter Chrysler, head of the 3rd largest car manufacturer at the time. Not bad for a third place finish.
Weighing 27Tons, the needle like spire is 185 feet high and 8 feet square at its base.

The Brooklyn Bridge opened in 1883 after 14 arduous years of construction. It's one of the oldest roadway bridges in the United States. Initial toll charges to make the Brooklyn Bridge crossing was one penny to cross by foot, 5 cents for a horse and rider to cross and 10 cents for a horse and wagon. The price charged for farm animals were 5 cents per cow and 2 cents per hog or sheep. Luckily my herd wasn't with me on this beautiful day this past October. Definitely a highlight of NYC.

As the Centre of New York's Horse Carriage industry in 1872 it was named Long Acre Square after a similar area in London. In 1904 it was renamed Times Square when the New York Times moved to the area. With its checkered past, Times Square is now one of the busiest pedestrian areas in the world with 300,000 to 450,000 people passing through daily. What would happen if they turned the lights off?

The SoHo Cast Iron Historic District comprises of hundreds of buildings with Cast Iron facades. During the 1880's and 1890's, foundries produced Cast Iron architectural elements which were much less expensive than stone and much faster to install. Many of these buildings were originally used as textile factories and dry goods warehouses. In the early 1900's, the area fell into decline and by the 1950's was known as Hell's Hundred Acres. In the 1960's artists were attracted to the high ceiling lofts of the upper floors of these buildings. This was the start of the gentrification of this area which now boasts beautiful lofts, galleries, restaurants and boutiques.
