Our yher Pacific accelerator has just launched in Fiji and we can’t wait to see the future leaders of the pacific region.

We had the privilege of meeting Mpho in South Africa and the enormous pride to see her go on to win the 2016 Strong Girl of South Africa award, a competition that lead her to address the United Nations about her social impact venture, Virya.
Mpho is working on providing pathways to effective education and employment opportunities to people in South Africa living with disabilities.
What an incredible life achievement, already, and it is only just the beginning for Mpo.

Through our very first yher Pacific we will meet another group of leading ladies - set to change the world! 🙌🏼💚💪🏽

Teresa Njoroge had embarked on a successful business career in Kenya until she was arrested for a crime she didn’t commit. Unable to pay her bail or pay for a defense lawyer, Teresa served 12 months in Langata Women’s Maximum Security Prison before being exonerated after her release.
There are currently around 20,000 women and girls in the Kenyan Prison System. Unlike Teresa, many have little or no education and come from difficult backgrounds, having lived in slums and struggling with all the issues that poverty brings.
What’s worse is no matter how tough their experiences were behind bars, many women inmates dread their release day as they fear how they will cope with daily life and overcome multiple barriers and stigma post-release.
The recidivism rate for women and girls in Kenya is 52%.
Through her initiative, Clean Start, Teresa aims to provide former inmates with office cleaning jobs upon their release in order to break the cycle of poverty and incarceration.
We backed Teresa through our ygap Kenya accelerator program and we will continue to back and support local leaders like her for they are the solution their community needs.

Not only did she win campaigning on hard issues like access to Medicare for all and tuition free college, but she did it without taking any corporate lobbyist money. #yasqueen 🙌

She said that her decision to run was prompted by increasing attacks against American Muslims and immigrants since the Donald Trump election and that she wanted to ensure American Muslims felt that they belonged.

Rashida - from all of us at ygap thank you for your determination for change 👏
Thank you for showing everyone out there that they don’t need to just accept injustices, that if we stand together we will create the world that we want to live in; a world with equal rights and respect for each others diversity.

Why is Jacinda Arden, the New Zealand Prime Minister, giving birth such a big deal?

Well, other than the miracle of life being just that, a miracle... Evidence shows that women are less self-assured than men—and that to succeed, confidence matters as much as competence.
Despite the relentless questioning in the media about her ability to lead the country and be a mother, Jacinda always answers with humility that she is confident she can do both.

Thank you Jacinda Arden!!! You are an epic inspiration to all the women out there facing self-doubt in their capabilities to achieve their dreams!

Bring it on! 😉

Last week, we ran our first @ygap First Gens Accelerator Program which supports migrant and refugee led social impact ventures that are improving the lives of people living in disadvantage in Australia.
Thank you to all of our guest mentors, including @laxmipun who has summarised it so perfectly: “What a Humbling experience to be part of #YGAPFirstGens accelerator program.

The 12 selected social entrepreneurs not only shared their business models but their inspiring stories of hope, determination, perseverance, settlement and their purpose behind being the change makers.

What is truly humbling is that the talent and values they bring to Australia and yet how unrecognized and invisible it becomes and their humility to start from scratch.

These social entrepreneurs think beyond themselves, are working to impact their communities. Taking risks again and again.

To all migrants and refugees, let’s celebrate our stories and entrepreneurship”

Thank you again to @launchvic for making this possible #ygapfirstgens
